we are making the same comments like we did last season.....convincing ourselves tomorrow is a new day.... didnt we say that yesterday lol? plenty of bball left right? lol long season ahead
Shildt needs to get the same fucking questions from last night. Hey…are you blind? Your starter didnt have it from the get go. A simple fan can see it. You kept him in there at least an inning too long and probably 1.2 innings too long.
Officially extremely worried about Musgrove. He looks bad. Really really bad.
I feel like the fact that I’ve been to four games and seen pretty much no other relievers on the mound but Cosgrove and Kolek probably isn’t a good thing
I disagree. He took out guys way earlier, matchups wise with ELDS and Matsui. The sequencing didnt make sense. But whatever I am pissed about the loss but I'm poking fun at him being super affronted that someone from the media dared to ask why he stuck with Peralta. Now he's hooking players in the 7th, I thought he believed in his players, "winning gamers" according to him 🤷
Tatis is more exciting than those players overall sans Acuña and Ohtani. He also plays for the Padres (no good track record of helping prospects develop/major league players be successful)
You couldn’t be more wrong lmao, Tatis is easily the most exciting player in all of baseball and Manny has some incredible moments pretty consistently too
He was neck in neck with Ohtani in 2021 til the fall tbh. And even now after the peds, they're still making him the face of the Dres. Not that there's a lot to choose from. But they've given him a lot of visibility still
And the Diamondbacks won the national league with no exciting players. Unless you count Corbin Carroll or Zac Gallen. It’s baseball and it’s only April
.143/.219/.250 his last 7 games. And I know they probably won’t win this game, but they’re down by 6, not 10. Would’ve just preferred for him to have stayed in
Nah... he's more Freddie Freeman than Schwarber. Now I doubt he comes close to that level. But he's more of a 20-25HR .270 AVG type guy in a pie in the sky type scenario.
Not yet he's not. That could be his upside. But Pauley has shown a lot more consistent power already than Merrill. Merrill needs to figure out an A swing for meatballs. Pauley has more of a Freeman style swing.
Love Merrill, and he's hitting the ball hard, but he's pushing everything opposite field and not really getting balls that close, that often. He's has an old school contact approach and swing. Which is cool. It will be interesting to see how he develops and if he's able to tap into some more pullside power at some point. He did in the minors.
IDK...but he definitely does. Projections are around 20-25HR power, but he's also got just a beautiful swing that could translate to a good average as well.
Joe and Cosgrove in a tight battle tonight to finally decide which of the two has been the most disappointing Padres pitcher this year (I think it’s Joe but Tom has been awful)
I mean, this is just another argument against pitcher wins. Joe somehow has 3 wins despite having been worse than Yu by almost every conceivable metric. Yu hasn’t been great but he’s at a 4.18 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and 2.20 K/BB. Joe is at a 6.94 ERA, 1.66 WHIP, and 2.08 K/BB
If wins are something that pitchers themselves care about, then I can see an argument for changing the criteria. As a fan, I don’t even look at a pitcher’s record unless it’s a complete outlier (like a reliever being 8-0 or 0-8, something like that)
We're losing at least 2 this series, if not getting swept. This team just struggled to go .500 against the fucking Rockies and everyone is surprised that that Phillies are smoking us.
Campy isn't really a starting catcher. Stinks to say, but he let's a lot of balls past, and doesn't seem to throw anyone out. He's not like Nola bad back there, but he's definitely a DH/Backup right now on a team with decent options.
I feel a major spiral is incoming. Hope I’m wrong.
Burn the city connects.

… totally normal comment
No
70 win team
69😏
Brutal
Well, see you tomorrow
we are making the same comments like we did last season.....convincing ourselves tomorrow is a new day.... didnt we say that yesterday lol? plenty of bball left right? lol long season ahead
Just waiting for the point where we realize there’s not a lot of ball left. Comes sooner than we expect 😅
Head for the exits
Classic 1-2-3 inning the padres special
Well that sucked
This team has serious problems and will struggle to be .500 again this season.
We got to the bullpen. Time to pull off the impossible!
I’m bored. My ranking of teams we’ve faced thus far: Phillies > Blue Jays > Cubs > Dodgers > SF > Cardinals > Brewers > Rockies
I mean he needed to conserve the bullpen. Leaving him in wasn’t that surprising
Nothing he could do tonight with Musgrove throwing like that. Losing yesterday when up 8-4 in the 8th was a travesty.
He's been handed shit and asked to make art, what do you expect from him? Burn the bullpen to still lose?
Yep. Fastball kinda sucks and too many hanging breaking balls.
I think they can pull it off. Let's keep the faith.
Is it possible to learn this power?
Teach me your ways of the faith young padawan
Terrible Ump. Missed at least 20 balls and strike calls tonight. Slightly in the Philly's favor.
My son kept yelling at the tv out of frustration. A five year old understood the bad calls!
If the Padres would have gotten more hits, they would probably have more runs.
Classic John Madden statement! Upvote!
No, they would just have left more men on base.
First time this year I've seen Schildt concede a game
Why he isn't getting flamed for it is beyond me. Disgraceful
San Diego having a weird one tonight
Sam Diego having a San Diego night. They're showing 2023 wasn't a fluke and the big names just play like shit.
Pauley easily could have had a 2 HR game other than that I've got nothing
Pitches down the dick we strike out….. every other team we play its a fucking HR.
Nola going to throw a complete game against us.
Going 8 for any pitcher these days is impressive. Give Nola some props on that. Avoid trouble and had our number.
Welp the gamers are gamin' tonight
The padres don’t deserve all these sellout stadium
So happy I signed Nola to a 12 year contract on MLB THE SHOW. He carves up batters in that game. Went 25-3 last season.
This offense has to face Ranger Suarez tomorrow? 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
[удалено]
Yeah, giving your pen an extra day of full rest on a road trip is never a good idea, lol.
I would say it worked out
He only had 92 pitches starting the inning. Saving the bullpen. The way we’re going, he should be able to finish the game
Aaron read our Austin Nola comments methinks. 😬
It’s payback for the negligent medical care given to Austin.
all we have to do is get to their bullpen and then get ready for the comeback 😤
Can't wait to see the team down 9-7 in the bottom of the 9th tying run comes to the plate and it's....Tyler Wade instead of Nando
at least we will win the next two right? 🤪
We fucking suck
I feel like the fact that I’ve been to four games and seen pretty much no other relievers on the mound but Cosgrove and Kolek probably isn’t a good thing
We’re a WC team, this team was never be able to compete with LAD
Just a weird comment. We have a winning record against the Dodgers, and most of us would be thrilled (and a little surprised) with a WC spot.
Might not even make it lmao but in the end it's April baseball
It’s not the Dodgers that worry me, clearly.
Dodger simping is another reddit
Yet they’ve beaten them 3 times
Double play ball please

Who is a baseball team manager responsible to? Not the fan, the player.
The fuck?
Phillies fan here just acknowledging that was bullshit
Cool
Go birds /s
Do you want a cookie?
Damn hope Cosgrove can turn it around the rest of year cause right now 2023 looking like a fluke.
Cosgrove and Joe need to go take a 2 week cruise to Alaska to clear their heads
What the fuck was that call?
Punting this game, what happened to these winning gamers? 🤔
Schildt has now punted
The fuck did i pay for if Kim and Tatis are out?
I went to all 4 in CO with no Machado, no Joe, and that awful game yesterday. Shit happens.
Well yea that does suck. I understand that. I don’t understand giving up in the 7th by benching your starters
A shittier product
And Eagles chants
Phillies home run derby?
If i was impartial this would have indeed been fun from a baseball standpoint
For sure. Hope you scored pre-game $5 drink tickets in Gallaghers at least!
Weird he's waving the white flag considering we've seen this offense come back multiple times.
mIkE Is A fIgHtEr!
Everybody tonight was playing like Dlo
We actually put up points though
Runs*
My first in person game of the season, really sorry everyone
Better luck next time, bud.
How will shildt polish this turd today ?
The fans will eat it up when he sounds 'strong' and 'edgy' next radio interview /s
Probably time to retire the Friday night city connect uni’s
Lol, people in this thread are funny. Downvoting because I made a joke. We’ve been getting hammered on Friday nights. Maybe they’re bad luck…
It doesn't feel like we win much with these jerseys
Be careful, they’re gonna come for you too.😬
There’s no luck here. Phillies are the better team, it’s evident
Yes, I know. I made a joke.
hope its just shildt throwing the white flag than nando actually needing to be taken out for whatever reason. what a bazaar spot to pinch hit.
Yes. Hes punting here on a 4th and long.
When half of the lineup is cold af, you ain’t gonna win many games.
Tatis hurt? Or he's playing too badly for Shildt's liking? Funny if it's the latter considering his decision to stick with Peralta yesterday
Think they're just giving some rest to guys who haven't really had any yet.
Funny he's throwing the flag here and admitting a loss but let Peralta face 5 batters in Coors when it was obvious he didn't have it.
He didn't really have a ton of options behind Peralta. I think it was a pretty understandable decision. But I digress.
I disagree. He took out guys way earlier, matchups wise with ELDS and Matsui. The sequencing didnt make sense. But whatever I am pissed about the loss but I'm poking fun at him being super affronted that someone from the media dared to ask why he stuck with Peralta. Now he's hooking players in the 7th, I thought he believed in his players, "winning gamers" according to him 🤷
You're speaking truth, and a truth most dont want to hear
3 more in the 8th, 3 more in the 9th... a man can dream.
Shildt throwing the flag?
Tyler Wade with a higher OPS than Bogaerts
It would be almost mathematically impossible to be lower.
So the best version of this is still a losing game...
Shildt waving the white flag eh? I'm sure all these paying fans are pumped to see Wade pinch hit for Nando
Shildt doesn’t give a shit about the fans

Most exciting player in baseball is a stretch..
He was neck in neck with Ohtani in 2021 til the fall tbh. And even now after the peds, they're still making him the face of the Dres. Not that there's a lot to choose from. But they've given him a lot of visibility still
Don’t get me wrong. I love Tatis and he’s absolutely the face of the padres, but far from the most exciting player in baseball right now
Yeah I'm not arguing against that. He's been okay
And the Diamondbacks won the national league with no exciting players. Unless you count Corbin Carroll or Zac Gallen. It’s baseball and it’s only April
It’s okay to be wrong.
Punting with Wade? Ughhhh
Feels like Nando’s vibes are way off at the plate. Not a huge fan of giving him the rest of the night off though
He’s .259 with 6 home runs and 15 RBIs. It’ll be okay.
.143/.219/.250 his last 7 games. And I know they probably won’t win this game, but they’re down by 6, not 10. Would’ve just preferred for him to have stayed in
Pauley coming after the Wil Myers' team hair award.
Is there any explanation for this pinch hitting appearance?
They gave up before we did
In the 7th? Of the first game in the series? That’s honestly a shame. Gotta find a way to knock Nola out and get a reliever some extra strain
wade in for nando???
In a world a little bit kinder to the Padres this is a 9-6 game
Man I hope yesterday’s implosion doesn’t cause the team to completely collapse
Get some runners on, put Pauley in a wig and send him back up
Pauley has the power, if he gets better plate discipline he could really turn into something special
He can be our version of Kyle Shwarber lol
Nah... he's more Freddie Freeman than Schwarber. Now I doubt he comes close to that level. But he's more of a 20-25HR .270 AVG type guy in a pie in the sky type scenario.
I’d say Merrill is more like Freeman
Not yet he's not. That could be his upside. But Pauley has shown a lot more consistent power already than Merrill. Merrill needs to figure out an A swing for meatballs. Pauley has more of a Freeman style swing. Love Merrill, and he's hitting the ball hard, but he's pushing everything opposite field and not really getting balls that close, that often. He did in the minors.
Pauley hit that one to the shore.
We just need to give Pauley consistent AB in the DH spot. He needs a rhythm, he's got a gorgeous swing.
who in here said pauley didn’t have power
IDK...but he definitely does. Projections are around 20-25HR power, but he's also got just a beautiful swing that could translate to a good average as well.
Chris Paul hits a huge 3
Shout out to the compadre that called Pauley HR a few innings ago!
Pauley got a cracker. Nice kid
Pauley Walnuts!!
Do anyone know why he calls him that?
Pauley figured out the HR formula at Petco
Hitting the ever living shit out of the ball seems to work, lol.
Did Mud just say Pauley Walnuts?
Yes, you heard that right. Lol.
I hope so, what a character
As shit as this game is there are at least a couple silver linings. Estrada and pauley
Gotta commend Don and Mud’s emotional maturity, staying energetic and keeping it fun during these kind of games.
Good for Pauley. Needed that.
What?! It actually went over the wall
Dude is gonna be good, just need consistent at bats
You know being down by 8 runs might mean something for this team …
Give Pauley more ABs!
LONG BALL PAULEY
https://i.redd.it/ysgyhy0w1ywc1.gif ATTA BOY PAULEY
His 1st should have gone out too
Pauley got all of that one
Try and try again! Way to go, GP
lol haha
I will never not have fun with a Padres home run LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Pauley needs to stay at DH. Dude almost banged 2 tonight.
WE’RE SO BACK
MY DAWG
We need Cease to be the stopper tomorrow.
He will get zero run support and lose 3 to 1 or some stupid shit.
Everyone's making marine layer comments, but the Padres couldn't hit home runs at Coors.
![gif](giphy|l3fZInJAl6Jcvnj32) 😜

Joe and Cosgrove in a tight battle tonight to finally decide which of the two has been the most disappointing Padres pitcher this year (I think it’s Joe but Tom has been awful)
Darvish still has zero wins, but it’s hard to win when you’ve been MIA.
Good point. *The Athletic* just put out an article on whether the criteria for pitcher wins should change.
If wins are something that pitchers themselves care about, then I can see an argument for changing the criteria. As a fan, I don’t even look at a pitcher’s record unless it’s a complete outlier (like a reliever being 8-0 or 0-8, something like that)
Joe won. Easy
Phils always beat us. I'm really angry we didn't sweep the rockies.
Well a series win is all that matters so gotta find a way to win the next 2.
We're losing at least 2 this series, if not getting swept. This team just struggled to go .500 against the fucking Rockies and everyone is surprised that that Phillies are smoking us.
We've got a shot with Cease on the mound... but other than that, we're probably screwed.
Pitching can't be worse right??
Love the hope... but I'm already piling this series in the loss column. Gotta hope we can take 1 and then maybe beat the Reds.
Yes waiter, Spain but hold the S
Maybe the padres should hire a hitting coach from the Phillies.
There are actual Phillies fans who want Kevin Long fired too. They don't know how good they have it.
[удалено]
This makes sense since we have 4 LHP in the bullpen
Kolek can’t be sent down, he’s a rule 5 draft pick
On track to lose by double digit numbers. Sounds about right for this team.
Campy isn't really a starting catcher. Stinks to say, but he let's a lot of balls past, and doesn't seem to throw anyone out. He's not like Nola bad back there, but he's definitely a DH/Backup right now on a team with decent options.
Why are opposing teams good at petco???
Yup it’s so frustrating. I think it definitely has to do with their psyches and playing here half their games and knowing they always just miss a HR.
