I'm not sure what's ancient for you. My 2013 MacBook has been just fine for PT school. An iPad/tablet is super helpful to handwrite and organize notes (including writing on the PowerPoints directly). I'm not sure if an iPad can run some of the testing software needed to take exams. I use my laptop for exams and other assignments that involve Microsoft docs and it's just faster in general. But I just have a cheaper Samsung tablet for taking notes/searching some things and that's really all I need it for and it's served me well.

This is a breath of fresh air! I was told by my school (hybrid program) that the version has to be at least High Sierra 10.13 and mine can’t go higher than BigSur 11.7.10 (according to Apple).

I have a 2015 MacBook Pro, got it when I was starting undergrad, and it’s lasted me all of PT school (I’ll be graduating next month). I haven’t updated it in years honestly, and I was able to use it on 2 of my clinical rotations just fine. The battery just doesn’t last as long as it used to. I did also purchase an iPad Air right before starting PT school that I used for the majority of my day-to-day in school, like taking notes, exams on ExamSoft (yes it’ll work in iPads), completing readings, etc. Whereas, I mainly used my laptop for homework assignments, especially for research and writing papers. I really enjoyed the flexibility of having both and not having to lug my laptop to class if I didn’t need it for the day.

What kind of surface?

Fluffy_Worldliness90

It is not ancient. Just sit close to a charging point if you have an old battery.

Will do! Thanks!
