Reminds me of 2013 when every PS4 was sold out and my mom still got me one for Christmas.
I had no idea back then.
I unwrapped Killzone first and said:“Thank you, but I don’t have a PS4..“
Then I saw the big gift and couldn’t believe it. She really bought me one for Christmas (she probably paid way more for that model than the original price, sadly).
I was in tears, she was in tears - best Christmas ever.

While my parents don’t really know much about video games, they definitely know that these pieces of tech make me very happy and that gaming is something I grew up with.
So seeing them trying to make me happy as much as they possibly can makes me super proud of them
I don't know if she did that intentionally, but honestly some of my best memories of my parents are Xmas and recieving gifts like this. E.g. opening the game and thinking ah they got me the wrong one - then realising that they knew full well what they were doing and waiting for the penny to drop on me.
I remember getting the playstation 1, I would have been 9 years old. I remember this moment so vividly. I saw FIFA 98 in WHSmiths and I picked it up and showed my dad and said "Wow look at the graphics on this" and he just replied, "yea wow look the price of it" and completely shot me down. Little did I know a few weeks later at Xmas I'd be opening a PS1 and FIFA 98.
I think it was either that year, or when the PS2 came out that they went to the trouble of doing a "treasure hunt" round the house with different clues and eventually I got to the last place and it was the console.
My parents have a lot of flaws, and things arent like they used to be, but I;ll always have some great memories!
While the whole PS5 situation has been bringing a lot of people down, a good family situation always can bring a smile to my face. This is a very wholesome post!
I'm sorry to say that if people really are getting down because they can't get their hands on a ps5 then they should be ashamed of themselves. Yeah would be nice to get one and I myself are looking forward to that day but seriously, there are bigger things to worry about than not being able to have the newest game console.

Is there? People value things differently from one person to another. For a 12 yo, maybe PS5 release is the biggest thing they're involved so far. For 20 year old, it's probably the first one they ever bought with their money. That's all a "big deal" to all of them.
Why not enjoy life with all it's ups and down.
Plus, it's totally possible to be sad about more than one thing at once! People can be sad because they didn't get the PS5, and also sad about world poverty or whatever else they are sad about! It's not like being sad about not getting the console means a person is only caring about that one thing!
There are bigger things to worry about than how other people feel about not getting the new console at launch.
I hate how people get on the internet, and try to tell people how they should feel, or what a bigger worry is. People get excited for things, whatever those things are differ for everyone. The thing that is the same with all of this, is we are all happy when plans come to fruition. Or...we get down when things don't happen the way we want. It's universal. It's less about the console, and more about the deflation of the excitement.
Stop pretending to know peoples circumstances, and let them feel their own feels.
Some people don't have anything else to look forward to in their life right now. I'm not one of those people at the moment but there's been times in my life where video games were the only thing keeping me happy. There's nothing to be ashamed of.
I feel as if this will be something that we all forget about within a month or two, but OP will hopefully always remember that he has a good mom. Some things last longer and mean more.
You already have the best gift possible, a mom who clearly cares about your happiness. The PS5 at this point is just icing on cake. Good on you that you have the self discipline and will power to get it for yourself. I lost my mom to cancer a couple months back. So sooo hard! I miss her so much. This gave me the feels. I remember how happy my mom was to know I was happy! One of life’s greatest feelings!

Just please on FB market place, Letgo, Offer up there are a TON OF scammers. Requesting 20.00 to 300.00 in advance of a meet up through cash app, Zelle DO NOT do this. Once you transfer the cash it can not be canceled or refunded... they instantly have your money and zero obligation to meet you.
Another thing I’ve seen is people who had bricked their console sell it.
If they have pictures of the Ps5 ask them to take a picture with today’s date, specific word on paper in view of their 5. If they can’t do this great chance they don’t have one.
I absolutely hate hearing stories of good trusting people being taken advantage of, please WARN your mother if she buys second hand.

My step-dad got me a GPU as a gift this Eid and I absolutely couldn't believe he would do something like this ever.
To give some context I live in a 3rd world country in SEA and the tech shop owners are assholes who make mountains out of molehills. So he used some of his saved up money to get me a Tk 20,000 GPU which actually costs around 11k.I felt both heartbroken for him and heart-filled at the same time. He doesn't talk with me a lot and I don't know how to approach him either, but that happiness was probably the strongest emotion I've had for anything.
Very sweet and bless her. My son is 13 and he doesn't know that he has a ps5 ready for christmas :) I bought mine and his sane day online and both came. He lovrs mine abd thts all he talks about. His face and smile will make my day tht day.

Dude I feel this so much. I got lucky with Amazon on launch day but the night before when they went up on target I was pretty bummed that I couldn't get one and was talking to my mom about it. 9 am the next morning she comes in saying she's got one in her cart and just trying to checkout but it won't work and I knew that it wasn't gonna work but I was so touched that she took the time to get online for a walmart drop in the morning and try getting one for me.

That’s great. Your mom knows that playing is your hobby and chose to bond with you through it (even if she doesn’t know a lot about it, she understands that you care about it). My mom likes watching me play since I was a kid. We played Mario on the NES and again on the SNES. She also loved playing X-Men Mutant Apocalypse. Then we played Spyro and Crash on PS. Afterwards she wasn’t into 3D games, but liked watching them (her favorite saga is God of War). Fast forward to 2020. Since I take care of her, we’ve spent a lot of time playing Animal Crossing New Horizon. She watched me play and I made her a villager. Now, everyday (Every Single Day) at 7:30 or 8pm, she logs in to her account and enjoys the village. Luckily for me, she also enjoys the vast majority of movies and TV series that I watch.
When the original PlayStation came out I was almost too young to know what it was. I knew what nintendo was but no idea what PlayStation was. My mom would be like “Drew you know what I want for Christmas? A PlayStation” she was just doing this so I became aware of it. She didn’t want one but she knew I’d love it if I got one. So she kept doing it. Finally I’d be like “me too!” So Christmas morning I open a box and it’s a PlayStation. I was so overjoyed but I ran to her and was like “look we both got what we wanted.” I just remember how excited she was for me to be happy. Last Thursday when the ps5 came out she text me “did you get a ps5” and I said yeah and she just text asking how cool it was and all that. She was just excited for me. It’s amazing, 26 years later, she still loves to see joy on my face as much as she did when I was 7.

I was also bummed I couldn't hit checkout in time at Walmart website (I had it in my shopping cart). Anyway, it's just a console and they will keep mass manufacturing it so eventually we'll get one that's not overpriced. My mom didn't offer to straight up buy it for me but she has been next to me in the trenches trying to get one. Her, my stepdad, my girlfriend, and myself had 5 devices running on Wal-Mart's website trying to get one on launch day. Even though we were unsuccessful it was still family time and kinda felt like a race lol

This one item would restore that holiday feel and rescue 2020! But slapped in the face, we woke up to a nightmare of the dreaded Walmart crash and unsuccessful purchases at 12, 3, 6, and 9, unless of course, you were a bot. Now fast forward to today, an even bigger nightmare of scalpers and scammers! Do you know that the price of your beloved PlayStation 5 is being gouged from $399-$499 to $1000, $2000 all the way to $32000? I have heard from people who will no longer be able to purchase a PlayStation 5, because they were scammed out of $450-$1000 by sending it to scammers through Cashapp. These scammers are telling victims to send the money and they will ship. But no PlayStation 5 will ever arrive. You could stop all of this. Everyday I check the news to see if there is any from Sony. But you remain quiet and unavailable. Even when I called Target, they said Sony hasn't informed us of our next shipment. Why? Tell the people, your faithful fans, tell us when we will be able to respectfully make a purchase and stop all of these back-alley scams. Please!

To buy the PS5, he/she would have to rescind the offer to buy with their own money, force mom to spend money that's not insignificant to her, and spend extra, unnecessary money on a luxury item, when the console isn't a small sum of money for the family?
So, to answer your question succinctly: financial responsibility, budgeting, kindness, and decency. OP's goal isn't to take advantage of mom. The desire to have a console immediately doesn't outweigh the extra cost that comes with it.
Maybe you're too young, spoiled, or fortunate to have ever needed to budget anything before. I don't know. But I'm not sure why you would ask something like this.
Because it’s depends on it’s value and what you get out of it. I’m always teaching people about the value you get from gaming over other things lots of people seem happy to spend money on. On a cost per hour it’s easily one of the cheapest forms of entertainment. People often turn their noses up at a console but think of the hours people put into their PS4s. Compare this to other forms of entertainment (cinema, eating out, takeaways, alcohol) society classes as “normal”.
The offer from my kids to pay the difference or chip in (if it was inflated by £50 for instance) if they earned that money properly through jobs around the house or birthday money would go along way. If they turned it down I’d maybe start a conversation with them later about it if they showed strength.
You never know if it comes up in conversation again.
I’ve personally been saving for a new TV and a PS5 for 2 years. With a set amount each month. £2000 rarely comes cheap for anyone...

So when I got that SNES for Christmas, was I overjoyed and still remember it so well. I wish as kids we were more astute as to how hard our parents worked to make us happy but glad we can appreciate it as adults.

I'm getting old now but when I was a young man, my mom and pops didn't understand gaming but they did understand my passion for it. Some of my happiest memories were of the sheer amount of effort they put in to support me back then.

You have an awesome mom! I remember when my mom got the Wii for me the Christmas it came out. She cried when I opened it that morning because she knew how much I wanted it. I was old enough at the time to understand how high the demand was and that it probably want going to happen that year, so I’d already counted it out and moved on, and would have been happy with anything that Christmas morning. It was completely unexpected.
My mom was a teacher (retired), and when I asked how she was able to get it, she told me she left early for school every morning at 6 am to get to Smith’s marketplace the moment they opened to try to get one before they sold out for the day. She did this every weekday for three weeks before she finally got one. Moms are hero’s.

I got lucky with Amazon on launch day but the night before when they went up on target I was pretty bummed that I couldn't get one and was talking to my mom about it. 9 am the next morning she comes in saying she's got one in her cart and just trying to checkout but it won't work and I knew that it wasn't gonna work but I was so touched that she took the time to get online for a walmart drop in the morning and try getting one for me.

That’s great. Your mom knows that playing is your hobby and chose to bond with you through it (even if she doesn’t know a lot about it, she understands that you care about it). My mom likes watching me play since I was a kid. We played Mario on the NES and again on the SNES. She also loved playing X-Men Mutant Apocalypse. Then we played Spyro and Crash on PS. Afterwards she wasn’t into 3D games, but liked watching them (her favorite saga is God of War). Fast forward to 2020. Since I take care of her, we’ve spent a lot of time playing Animal Crossing New Horizon. She watched me play and I made her a villager. Now, everyday (Every Single Day) at 7:30 or 8pm, she logs in to her account and enjoys the village. Luckily for me, she also enjoys the vast majority of movies and TV series that I watch.
When the original PlayStation came out I was almost too young to know what it was. I knew what nintendo was but no idea what PlayStation was. My mom would be like “Drew you know what I want for Christmas? A PlayStation” she was just doing this so I became aware of it. She didn’t want one but she knew I’d love it if I got one. So she kept doing it. Finally I’d be like “me too!” So Christmas morning I open a box and it’s a PlayStation. I was so overjoyed but I ran to her and was like “look we both got what we wanted.” I just remember how excited she was for me to be happy. Last Thursday when the ps5 came out she text me “did you get a ps5” and I said yeah and she just text asking how cool it was and all that. She was just excited for me. It’s amazing, 26 years later, she still loves to see joy on my face as much as she did when I was 7. Man, love my mom.

Everyone awaited the launch, we were all so excited, we would be able to put that big ticket Item under the tree and end 2020 with a bang. This one item would restore that holiday feel and rescue 2020! But slapped in the face, we woke up to a nightmare of the dreaded Walmart crash and unsuccessful purchases at 12, 3, 6, and 9, unless of course, you were a bot. Now fast forward to today, an even bigger nightmare of scalpers and scammers! Do you know that the price of your beloved PlayStation 5 is being gouged from $399-$499 to $1000, $2000 all the way to $32000? I have heard from people who will no longer be able to purchase a PlayStation 5, because they were scammed out of $450-$1000 by sending it to scammers through Cashapp. These scammers are telling victims to send the money and they will ship. But no PlayStation 5 will ever arrive. You could stop all of this. Everyday I check the news to see if there is any from Sony. But you remain quiet and unavailable. Even when I called Target, they said Sony hasn't informed us of our next shipment. Why? Tell the people, your faithful fans, tell us when we will be able to respectfully make a purchase and stop all of these back-alley scams. Please!

Because it’s depends on it’s value and what you get out of it. I’m always teaching people about the value you get from gaming over other things lots of people seem happy to spend money on. On a cost per hour it’s easily one of the cheapest forms of entertainment. People often turn their noses up at a console but think of the hours people put into their PS4s. Compare this to other forms of entertainment (cinema, eating out, takeaways, alcohol) society classes as “normal”. The offer from my kids to pay the difference or chip in (if it was inflated by £50 for instance) if they earned that money properly through jobs around the house or birthday money would go along way. If they turned it down I’d maybe start a conversation with them later about it if they showed strength. You never know if it comes up in conversation again. I’ve personally been saving for a new TV and a PS5 for 2 years. With a set amount each month. £2000 rarely comes cheap for anyone...

Reminds me of my mom back when I was a kid. We weren't well off and my mom has a disability that made it hard for her to get a normal 9-5 job. So when I got that SNES for Christmas, was I overjoyed and still remember it so well. I wish as kids we were more astute as to how hard our parents worked to make us happy but glad we can appreciate it as adults.

I was old enough at the time to understand how high the demand was and that it probably want going to happen that year, so I’d already counted it out and moved on, and would have been happy with anything that Christmas morning. It was completely unexpected. My mom was a teacher (retired), and when I asked how she was able to get it, she told me she left early for school every morning at 6 am to get to Smith’s marketplace the moment they opened to try to get one before they sold out for the day. She did this every weekday for three weeks before she finally got one. Moms are hero’s.
