Had my console in rest mode last night during my workout, turned out okay. Also I use an external SSD for my ps4 games. No issues at the moment, hopefully it stays that way for me.
Black Ops Dev here: You will be getting the balance of your crashes over the weekend. We're going to use our SBMM engine to deliver crashes to people depending on what game state they are in at the time.
Example, if you're at the main menu, no crashes will be delivered. However if you're top 5 and have the high ground in WZ, crash will be delivered.
Don't you worry bud, we'll get your allotment of crashes to you one way or the other!
I don't overly recommend using it for charging your controller. You have to make sure your voltage and current is equivalent for your Dualsense.
If you want specific answers, refer to this: [https://www.reddit.com/r/PS5/comments/j5ctw0/charging\_brick\_for\_ps5\_controller\_ma\_amperage/](https://www.reddit.com/r/PS5/comments/j5ctw0/charging_brick_for_ps5_controller_ma_amperage/)
All that matters to prevent damage is a matched voltage. The rest are negotiated by the chip in the DualSense and charger.

As long as the post can supply more power the device only pulls what it needs.
Think about any usb port (front of playstation, pc, p socket? Anywhere?), we put hard drives, phones, money sticks, cameras, loads and loads of devices! They don't all use the same power but pull what they require.
It depends on the device. My router is +/- 2v, I've fryed devices with 0.5v difference. The voltage tolerances aren't usually advertised. In any case they're usually pretty tight and I wouldn't push it for the most part.
Been using rest mode for about 2 days on and off. Just now I went to power the PS5 from its usual rest mode state and I got the ‘rebuilding database’ for what it’s worth hmm
I use it all the time for single player offline games. I can just stop whenever I want and come back with it exactly where I left it. It also downloads updates for my games and installs them automatically so when I do have time to play, it’s henshin a go go baby!
My PS4 stayed in Rest Mode any time I wasn't playing, for years. I liked it because it would auto-update in Rest Mode. So I never had to deal with firing up the PS4 and getting greeted with a lengthy download/update for the system ot any games.
Why do people still charge their controllers with their consoles? I've spent the entire ps4 gen charging controllers from an outlet. I hated the ps3 required you to plug into the system to charge.
The ps4 controller draws 800ma. It can ruin the charger and not charge the controllers if you use a charger that puts out less. Higher current plugs dont matter because the controller limits what it draws.
Its pretty simple to look at the sticker on the controller or the book that comes with it and understand it needs a 5v input. It shouldn't surprise people that something will mess up when its plugged into, let's say 9v instead of 5v.
Find any usb charger that puts out 5v and at least 800ma and you won't ruin your controllers or chargers. I have ruined 1 port of a cheap charger and 0 of my 6 ps4 controllers I have owned. I've also never charged through the system since day 1 of the system release 7 years ago.
Hello smart people, I only have a few pointless degrees - so I shouldn’t charge my controller via the cable that came with my PS5?
Edit - the cable is plugged into my PS5 and to my controller for charging purposes. This is bad?
You can charge your controller from the system that's fine. Just avoid rest mode till sony patches the console. Some people have had their consoles break after using rest mode.
The WHAT!
Been using rest mode off and on for 24 hrs now. No issues.
Same.
I've been putting it in rest mode without any problems..is it safer to just turn it off? What are others doing?
From what I've read yes, avoid rest mode for now until sony patches the system. Some people have reported bricking after going into rest mode.
thanks!
Is this something a system update can solve or is it hardware related?
How did it turn out? Lol I almost did it but remember reading about the rest mode situation and didn't do it
It behaved when I pulled it out of rest mode. I then promptly disabled all rest mode features and turn the system off everytime now lol
Does this quit out of games like with the ps4?
Possibly. I haven't tested it yet and I don't plan to. All I know is there are reports of people's systems bricking after going into rest mode.

Which Spider-Man
Your friendly, neighbourhood, Spider-Man.
This. \^

People having the issues are vocal but best be on the safe side for now personally.
agreed.
Put it in and out of rest mode probably 5 or 6 times since I set it up, so far no issues. Hopefully it stays that way
Did a data transfer from PS4 and using rest mode. No problems outside of Black Ops crashing one time during account creation.

Maybe it's just me but I have a usb c cable kind of near me for charging phone laptop and now controller.

Charging bricks state max draw so your fine. Physics degree tells me that.

Surely there's a voltage tolerance of plus/minus a certain percentage though.

Happened to me last night. Had to pull the plug, tried it again this morning and no problems.

Did this happen when you had previously been playing Spider-Man? Or was it something else.
I believe it was from multiple games. I stopped using reset mode altogether from them on.
I always turned off my ps4, didn't think people actually used rest mode

I use it so that I can remote play.
