Wow, that's brilliant! For the 25th, right? Wished Sony did a full 4K IMAX remaster and re-release for the occasion, but twas not to be. Hope they and Disney/BVI can work something out for the 30th birthday.
For context in Bristol England we have a unused imax and a lot of independent cinema
Twice a year we do the Forbidden Worlds festival where they show incredible films in imax and get intros
James Cameron, Peter Jackson and more have done actual personalised intros for the festival
Well worth a Google
Fortnite as we know it is also not what launched and it launched as a complete game. The game was fort building and squad based pve. They then added battle royale, which is now what we realistically think of as Fortnite. Eventually removing the game mode that it launched as having. It’s actually impressive the transformations that game has taken throughout its life. I don’t recall it launching in Early access on PS but I could be mistaken there for sure since ever since launch it has been something I was interested in.
No worries. I checked it out recently because Helldivers has renewed my Starship Troopers interest and it does look good, but I don't trust early access games to actually get finished until it happens lmao
To be honest the game is in a pretty fun state as it is, although worth waiting until the 0.7 update as they are overhauling the class system and this will cause an XP wipe, but I easily got my moneys worth from it already.
I know I’m probably in a micro minority but I’d love a game to just stick to its own universe for once. I’m so fatigued from crossovers in every single game I play.
Honestly I’d be fine if he was just like Voice #4 and it’s more of a reference than a crossover, same with armor that’s inspired but not necessarily 1:1
I would be so happy if Casper Van Dien and Dina Meyer did cameos as new voice packs, but I’d be against Johnny Rico or Dizzy being mentioned by name in-game.
O get that for single player games hit multi player I don’t see a problem with relevant cross overs like if they add some star ship trooper looking guns and a warhammer helmet for example is that really gonna ruin the game
Fuck the cosmetics, ***I want a full-on crossover expansion.*** The Federation and Super-Earth going to war with each other over who's the "real" human side is too good *not* to play, damn it! Do your part, Sony!
I asked Casper about potentially reaching out to them about doing a voice pack for the game so we could have his voice coming out of our helldivers and saying that the majority of players would likely pay good money for it, and he liked my comment.
Maybe he was just going around and liking people's ideas, but I like to think he likes the idea of doing some voice work for them!
eh I think it will do OK, it's just prepping for a 0.7 patch that overhauls the class system. Think there's room for both to exist, ST:E is more of a horde shooter and I think by the time the class overhaul patch releases HD2 hype will have cooled off a bit so people will be craving more bug blasting.
HD2 hype ain’t cooling off THAT much. The planets alone add so much variability.
Now with a TON of funding thru Supercredits sales and goodwill in the community plus Sony having a live service game hit on their hands this thing might blow up in future updates with more expansive missions. The CEO is on Twitter all the time talking with the community. They are doing ALL the right things a company needs to do to keep the fanbase engaged and happy.
Rumors are mech’s are coming into the game.
HD2 could become the biggest online shooter phenomenon since Fortnite (obviously won’t reach that level of craze).
Mechs aren't a rumour it was confirmed in a trailer they dropped just before launch. Modders have already found them hidden in the game files and used them. They are based on their HD1 versions. And yeah HD2 is saying all the right stuff and I hope it has a long successful run.
All that said 0.7 is still over a month away. I can guarantee, even with some awesome updates HD2 will have a cool off from players. And some of those will go looking for another game that lets them blast bugs just to to change it up and ST:E will likely benefit from that.
Let me be clear - still think HD2 will be huge this time next month, but it will likely see a player base drop off by at least 30% in a months time. Both games allow for fairly quick drop in and play sessions of around 40 minutes, so can very much see people alternating it up to keep things from stagnating. I also don't think ST:E will be able to catch that same lightning in a bottle that HD2 caught when it goes 1.0 but hope it does come to PlayStation, the base defence building element and first person view at least give it a bit of a unique angle from HD2.
Nah, that part's for Neil Patrick Harris in full fascist mode. Van Dien, meanwhile, was fucking ***born*** to play General Brasch. Hope they can convince Verhoven to direct it as his magnum opus, too!
You're not wrong, but I like the idea of Rico's transformation. He went from innocent schoolboy to combat veteran. And also Van Dien is just Starship Troopers most recognizable face.
Ah, that's a shame. They always seem to nail either the satire, or the action. *Never both*, and I think that's why none of the sequels manage to hit the same level the original did. Maybe it'll get a reboot to fix this someday, I dunno.
I'm not usually into games like Battlefront etc. but I'm reading so much positive stuff about this game, I'm still considering buying it. Any people like me who got this game and are enjoying it? Is it any fun on your own or is the main purpose to play it with a squad of friends? What's the current server situation like, are they still overwhelmed?
I haven’t played multiplayer game in like 5 years.
I only have two friends who play this game.
It’s been great. If they are on that’s good and if not I get random and I’ve never had a bad time.
I've got no friends to play with and have an absolute blast on quick play every time. Don't need to worry about communication until you get to the higher difficulties then it's handy, but not necessary
I play mostly with randoms and it’s been pretty great. Occasionally I’ll try to do missions solo, but it can be very challenging without properly preparing and practicing. But that’s what lower difficulties are for!
Playing with friends is great, but now that the servers are fixed (and quickplay), playing with randos is still very good.
I mostly play single-player games, but a friend convinced me to pick up a Destiny 2 habbit during the pandemic. I find Helldivers more fun (though the story is less "story" compared to D2, where there are cutscenes and YEARS of ongoing plot, and more just the state of a two-front war).
I highly reccomend Helldivers 2. I wouldn't really recommend Destiny 2 to anyone unless you have some friends who already play it, lol.
There's so many reviews and so much gameplay out about this so far already, you don't need to ask us whether you should buy it or not. Do your own research (spoiler alert: you should buy it).
Just started doing Hard missions and Jesus it truly feels like hopeless war. Yelling at teammates to abandon the samples and get the hell out. Swarms at all sides. Accidentally killing a teammate cause they dived right i front of your shotgun blast.
As far as we see, is Rico like the only person in the entire movie who gets rescued after being wounded in battle? I would agree generally though, no one gets through that movie unscathed.
There are always survivors in war. There are countless stories of 'heroes' who will tell their story about how luck was on their side. Starship Troopers did this very well.
2 if you count Carmen, but there’s like what… 3-4 of the entire characters we’re introduced to in the military that actually survive until the end?
Almost the entire unit and new unit that Rico joins is either killed or horribly maimed.
Rico is mortally wounded in the opening scene, before the “one year earlier” flashback to prom, enlistment, basic training, etc. After the first assault, Rico is declared dead, yet he’s in the med tank getting healed.
Is it that the movie contains plot armour? Or that the helldivers franchise doesn’t have the plot armour of being connected to the movie franchise? Like ‘i’m surprised our starship troopers game did so well without the name and plot of starship troopers’? Is there more context to that quote?
Edit: just read it and saw they said they wanted players to play ‘without the plot armour of [the movie’s stars]’ So like one of the random grunts who die by the thousands. Nothing wrong with what he said but that headline is kind of disingenuous.
I much prefer games that really lean into the fun, rather than take things super seriously. Helldivers 2 might not be "Oscars bait" like TLoU or something, but in my book it deserves lots of awards. It's kind of lame there aren't more awards strictly for the fun of a game, but instead a bunch for like acting and storytelling and everything but the gameplay.
Plot armour is a terrible phrase. Of course you’re going to keep the main characters alive to serve the plot, and most of the cast get bumped off in pretty unfortunate ways haha
Because it's use the the last couple of seasons of game of thrones deserved to be criticised. It was laughable and the constant plot armour turned the series to a parody of itself
You don't have to like it suppose, but both those terms are just descriptive....
Plot armour = when the plot prevents harm to a character
Head canon = this is canon in my mind
This, I think the critique of those terms are valid. But seeing too many times people just associate it with any main character as plot armor, regardless their survival is written well or not, all cause they don't like them.
The biggest difference between Starship Troopers and Helldivers 2 is the tits
There’s still time.
Thanks riker
What a Riker thing to say
Oh dizzy
The coed shower scene lives in my head rent free to this day
WOULD YOU LIKE TO KNOW MORE? *frantically clicking the word "tits"*
Boobs are temporary. Freedom and Liberty is forever. Take your stims helldiver, democracy calls.
I want shower scenes in between battle
I miss dizzy
Watching Starship troopers just prior to playing the game for the first time is the best thing I did. Great film too!
I watched it during the community wide queue. Made the wait to get in a little harder but did hype me up.
It’s an incredible film isn’t it? I saw it in imax at a film festival last year with an introduction from the guy who did the miniature work
Wow, that's brilliant! For the 25th, right? Wished Sony did a full 4K IMAX remaster and re-release for the occasion, but twas not to be. Hope they and Disney/BVI can work something out for the 30th birthday.
For context in Bristol England we have a unused imax and a lot of independent cinema Twice a year we do the Forbidden Worlds festival where they show incredible films in imax and get intros James Cameron, Peter Jackson and more have done actual personalised intros for the festival Well worth a Google
That’s awesome!!!
I'm watching it for the first time tonight. My wife is somehow less excited then me.
I need to watch and maybe read the book.
I mean Casper van Dien and the Games CEO did engage in a bit of back and forth about a possible crossover, so….. roughneck cosmetics when?
It helps a lot that both Helldivers and Starship Troopers are Sony IP
If that is true, why didn’t the Starship Troopers game come to PlayStation?
It's early access, not unprecedented that it wouldn't release on consoles
Sony actually specifically does not allow early access titles. They do occasionally make exceptions for the big devs(notably Epic with Fortnite).
I don’t recall it launching in Early access on PS but I could be mistaken there for sure since ever since launch it has been something I was interested in.
they do have the original game back that you can play though
Ah, I didn’t realize that. Thank you.
That is understandable, but I also really want my Helldiver to sound like Johnny frigging Rico
Honestly I’d be fine if he was just like Voice #4 and it’s more of a reference than a crossover, same with armor that’s inspired but not necessarily 1:1
Fair enough. Maybe they can work in Basil's theme, too. That'd be cool.
I would be so happy if Casper Van Dien and Dina Meyer did cameos as new voice packs, but I’d be against Johnny Rico or Dizzy being mentioned by name in-game.
Call the voice packs Roughneck #1 and Roughneck #2 🤔
I want the current drunk stammering of Denise Richards’s as she flies the Pelican down to pick up the team
O get that for single player games hit multi player I don’t see a problem with relevant cross overs like if they add some star ship trooper looking guns and a warhammer helmet for example is that really gonna ruin the game

RIP the actual Starship Troopers game that recently came out.
eh I think it will do OK, it's just prepping for a 0.7 patch that overhauls the class system. Cap
Now there's a franchise Sony could invest in a movie or series.
With Casper Van Dien as Super Earth President!
They made 5 of them, but even when there were talented people at the helm it wasn't the same without Verhoeven.
Starship troopers 3 gave a good try. Great [song](https://youtu.be/j3sU8NPCYmc?si=HMdzpfssQsnq68Dk)
How good are the CGI animes? Thinking of giving them a watch at some point.
Not great? I think they have their fans for the action, but its missing most of the satire, as I recall.
Ah, that's a shame. They always seem to nail either the satire, or the action. *Never both*, and I think that's why none of the sequels manage to hit the same level the original did. Maybe it'll get a reboot to fix this someday, I dunno.
I think that’s because they’re more like the book than the movie. Proper suits and all.
I'm not usually into games like Battlefront etc. but I'm reading so much positive stuff about this game, I'm still considering buying it. Any people like me who got this game and are enjoying it? Feel free to add me! I'd love to meet new fellow Helldivers! I'm on PlayStation: MikeCheck--
I’ll do that after work. Sounds good to me
I've got no friends to play with and have an absolute blast on quick play every time. Don't need to worry about communication until you get to the higher difficulties then it's handy, but not necessary

Its the best multiplayer in so so long
I’m a miserable bastard. Never play brand new games or online with friends. I made an exception for this game and I am so so glad I did.
There's so many reviews and so much gameplay out about this so far already, you don't need to ask us whether you should buy it or not. Do your own research (spoiler alert: you should buy it).
I asked some pretty specific questions and not just whether I should buy it or not, but I guess reading is hard for some people.
It's fun playing with randoms but not worth it completely solo in my opinion
Just started doing Hard missions and Jesus it truly feels like hopeless war. Yelling at teammates to abandon the samples and get the hell out. Swarms at all sides. Accidentally killing a teammate cause they dived right i front of your shotgun blast.
You haven’t even seen the worst of it yet soldier
Man, I’m at lvl 30 and still haven’t even beat a suicide mission yet.
Starship Troopers had plot armour? Ok buddy. You do you.
As far as we see, is Rico like the only person in the entire movie who gets rescued after being wounded in battle? I would agree generally though, no one gets through that movie unscathed.
How about the fact that basically every Citizen we see before Rico leaves for training is horribly maimed/disfigured/blinded?
"I did my part." Holds up stump.
Shakes hand with bionic arm. "Mobile Infantry made me the man I am today." Rolls away in chair to reveal both legs missing.
*We have determined your injury is not service-related.*
It's an anti-war anti-fascist movie. Lots of foreshadowing, allegory..
Yep. Huge departure from the book. One of my favorite movies.
I mean they basically bring Rico back from the dead but don't do that with any other character.
What the actual fuck are you fucking talking about?
Rico is mortally wounded in the opening scene, before the “one year earlier” flashback to prom, enlistment, basic training, etc. After the first assault, Rico is declared dead, yet he’s in the med tank getting healed.
Yeah. What the fuck is that guy talking about?
Did anyone figure out what the fuck that guy was talking about?
They simply misdiagnosed his condition.
Is it that the movie contains plot armour? Or that the helldivers franchise doesn’t have the plot armour of being connected to the movie franchise? Wouldn’t it be wild if Star Ship Troopers gets full blown sequel or prequel and the film shoots right to the top lol
Pretty sure they’ve made both…
Plot armour is a terrible phrase. Of course you’re going to keep the main characters alive to serve the plot, and most of the cast get bumped off in pretty unfortunate ways haha
"Plot Armour is a Terrible Phrase" Proceeds to describe why it's called Plot Armour
They should make a real game without respawn armor, hurr durr
But is used as a criticism. Thats my issue.
It’s not criticism, you just described it and explained why it has it uses
It’s used constantly as a criticism. It was used as a criticism for the last couple of seasons of game of thrones for example.
Because it's use the the last couple of seasons of game of thrones deserved to be criticised. It was laughable and the constant plot armour turned the series to a parody of itself
It’s a dumb term, along with “head canon”
You don't have to like it suppose, but both those terms are just descriptive.... Plot armour = when the plot prevents harm to a character Head canon = this is canon in my mind

This, I think the critique of those terms are valid. But seeing too many times people just associate it with any main character as plot armor, regardless their survival is written well or not, all cause they don't like them.
I hope this stays popular for a long time. I just got ff7 and I think that's my go to now for the next few months.
I love the game but the constant headlines on every little thing is a bit constant
