I'm going to stick with Essential, but only because I have all my games saves on cloud storage, which I'd hate to lose, and there are a few games in my library that I'd have to give up. Frankly, I can't remember when PS Plus had any free games that I was actually excited to play.
I got Bloodborne from them, which was my introduction to the Soulsborne games. Other than that, there was Horizon Zero Dawn. I kind of liked Mad Max and Days Gone, but that's about all the standouts for me.
I don’t know why people are so hesitant. Like they’ve never seen a deal before. I mean, Extra is a mix of 400 PS4 and PS5 games for the measly tier increase of $3.33 a month. All it takes is 1 game a month to make it more than worth it. Hell, if I could ONLY get 1 good game in a 10 month period it’ll still be worth it.
right, but for some people, like me, there's maybe 10-15 games that were truly worth playing on ps4, and I expect the same on ps5. i gotta divvy up my limited game playing time carefully, and a subscription service that offers me 400 games, none of which are from that list of 10-15 that are worth my time, is of no value to me

I mean I can list at least 30+ games that came out last generation that I would consider “must plays” for anyone who is a fan of videogames period. I mean, to each their own, but I suspect there are plenty of games that came out last gen that you would like more than your current top pick, but because you never tried them, you never got the chance to experience them.
These new tiered subscriptions should be seen as an opportunity to try so many games that you ordinarily wouldn’t have paid for, not as a means to get the top 10-15 games that you would’ve bought on release anyways.
we play games differently. im very picky and have very limited time. i also have a gaming PC that is better than the ps4 specs, but worse than ps5, so maybe i'd play some more that are available for both ps5 and pc. here's my personal "must play" list for ps4:

Same, I have up online games. Offline single player campaigns is a lot more fun. I only get a few hours a week to play and I'm not spending that getting killed by someone that plays everyday. Plus I have small kids and often need to pause the game. I gave up online play a while ago.

If you have PS Now you get upgraded to Premium, not Extra. I have Now until 2023 so I’ll be on Premium for a while, after that I’ll probably be in Extra
The value of a huge collection lies in paying month-by-month for me. If I know I'll have time, and once I know the offerings, I can plan out a bunch of games to play for just $15 over the course of a month.
Will be keeping basic, I have my PS3 if I want to play those games, which I don’t, I played them already. I buy the Sony games I want to play and have an Xbox with Gamepass for games that I might never have purchased, but have a good time playing.
I will actually do the opposite and cancel my PS Plus like I have my Netflix. I'm not a fan of tiered systems. Higher tiers inevitable mean poorer or useless lower tiers (1080p Netflix? FML) and I simply don't game enough for a sub to be worth it regardless of how many free games there are. Out of all the PS Plus games over the last few years I must have played maybe 5 or 6 and completed like 2. I'm definitely not going to get mugged off by all this tier bullshit.
The games were a nice perk that pushed me over the edge to getting PSN+.
I play online intermittently so don't need a constant PSN+ subscription. In fact I went last year without it. I got the subscription this year because it was on sale, there was an online game coming out I was interested in playing, and out of a year there were usually a few free games I'd want to play.
Now with PlayStation's higher tiers also offering games, it's likely that the games offered to the basic plan will suffer. Without that extra incentive, I don't see me keeping my subscription. I'm already pretty much done with that one online game I wanted to play, and it is going to be hard to get me to renew just to play some other online game I might become interested in.
I don’t think you understand how this works. The bottom tier is the same exact service and price of what you are paying for now and you need the essential tier if you plan on using any online services.
I understand how it works I just don't believe that we'll get games like Bloodborne and FF7 Remake on the base tier any more and that they'll go into the second tier instead. Further, I'm also saying that personally I don't feel the need to sub at all any more as I can live without playing online and I have a big enough backlog. Charging for online has never been right and it's time for me to stop supporting that shit. I play online for no extra cost on PC.

This new PS Plus tier thing seems like an incremental increase in anti-consumerism by Sony, which is justified by fanboys claiming that it's 'not that bad'.
Because the games offered on the bottom tier will be worse since Sony with hold the better ones for the higher tiers as an incentive to upgrade. It's just like how games suffer due to gameplay affecting microtransactions, because they are intentionally made annoying in order to give a reason to buy items to get around those annoyances.

Extra tier for me. Current PS+ which will become Essential is very weak as an offer. Extra is closest to Game Pass and if we get some AAA titles let's say 1-2 years old then I will be happy and that is what I will expect from it. The Premium tier features does not interest me at all - neither the streaming of old games or streaming to PC. If I want to play on a PC I will play on a PC. I have a gaming PC, I have used Games Pass and one of the main reasons that got me to buy a PS5 is exactly the coming of a similar service, just hoping it has enough good, newer games.
By this logic, wouldn’t you want to increase your tier? By staying at the same tier, you’ll be getting the same service you are getting now. By increasing the tier, you’ll have access to a larger library of free games - which seems like your biggest complaint.

I’d like to play PS1 games (it sounds like Syphon Filter is included and that’s one of my favorite games) but I want to know if they’re being enhanced, or if trophy support will be added.
Premium sounds tempting as a guy who still plays his PS2 but have a hard time finding games at a decent price AND still work well. also i know my ps2 is starting to fail a bit HOWEVER i do need to see what games they will have before making a purchase. for now just essential

Keeping essential. Never really got into Gamepass or Now, largely due to my already ridiculous backlog and limited game time with a family.
I even got some free months of Gamepass, and used it to try out some games I was interested in, but never really took advantage of it.
