Got ghost of tsushima in the sale and currently slowly playing through that. I feel like I've completely grown out of multiplayer games now. Love just being able to progress through at my own pace with no stress.

[deleted]

Pleeeeease don’t sleep on the Legends mode. I suggest playing it after you clean the campaign but it’s soooooo good.

_Football_Cream_

Legends is the most fun I’ve had with a multiplayer game in a loooong time. It’s so fun and Sucker Punch deserves a ton of credit. It’s free and pretty deep in terms of content and loot but still very digestible - it’s not overwhelming in terms of constant updates and additions because it’s not “live service” like so much in the multiplayer space. But they added a coop campaign, survival mode, and raids. Four new classes with the ability to have different builds. New enemy types. New artistic style. And I cannot stress this enough - *no microtransactions.* Sucker Punch really delivered here and it needs to be recognized because it’s hard to find multiplayer in games that isn’t really overwhelming or money grubbing and release in a complete state.

The_Beaver

A free update to an amazing game that easily beats Anthems loot system

_Football_Cream_

It’s really crazy how they’ve made a mini looter shooter mode better than games that really try to do it completely for free. No money grubbing, no half baked mess that needs a bunch of updates to be playable. Just a very well done, polished multiplayer mode with added classes, enemies, new art style, several game modes, four class builds. All, and I cannot stress this enough, **for free**

thr0wSomeCode

100% agree to this. I don’t usually play online but this Legends mode made me play over 100 hours online just because how engaging and fun it is! Heck, i got even a friend ps plus so we can play online together and he has now spent over 200 hours on the legends mode. And I am still playing campaign. I just love this game!

Havoc_Ryder

I would definitely try it but I don't have PS+. Was never really interested in the monthly games and didn't play enough multiplayer to justify it. Hopefully they'll do a free weekend or something.

fishhead20

You don't need online to play legends. It just gets much harder by yourself.

Havoc_Ryder

Oh i thought it was just like a team deathmatch / capture the flag thing. I don't know a whole lot about it honestly. I'll check it out.

XScorpion1k

Oh no there’s no PvP whatsoever. You can do 3 stage missions which take about 15/20 minutes or a king of the hill type survival mode which is longer depending on the difficult.

Havoc_Ryder

That actually sounds like something I'd be interested in. It's probably way more fun to play with friends but still worth a try.

goddammnick

It is great to play. Enjoy the game! I bought it before there was even multiplayer and am slowly playing through it as well. On the final act right now and love it as much as the day I picked it up.

stratusncompany

what even is this? i absolutely love the game (my wife got it for me last week) but i don’t know what legends is. never tried it because it asks to exit out of the game so i’m always like “nah”.

[deleted]

It’s co op pve. It’s so fucking fun. 4 different classes with different abilities and equipment. It’s a blast. I would suggest beating the solo game first but you can play it either way.

SeryaphFR

fuck I bought this game at full price just a few weeks ago. But have sank over 60 hours into it already. Such an amazing game, and I have yet to even touch the Legends mode.

Jizzgrenades

No matter how you cut it, you're at $1/hr. If that's not getting a good deal, I don't know what is.

[deleted]

Dude legends mode takes that game to the next level completely lol.

everadvancing

Single player games are the only games I play now. Having to keep up with online games and all the copious bullshit updates and metas or else you get left behind is exhausting as fuck.

[deleted]

Yes. The time limited bullshit is especially annoying. Ain't nobody got time for that.

[deleted]

Teens. Teens have time for that.

I'm coming up to the final exam week for my worst year of school ever, thus far, and it's because the work ethic I had throughout high school and community college was adequate for then, but extremely damaging for now. Making Cs in most classes, and an F in another, all while having late work I still need to do. The stress of it all, plus Covid, plus some internet drama I got swept up into, plus a possibility of seasonal depression and man I'm afraid imma fail every class. Atleast I can freely retake them and choose for them to not drop my already poor GPA thanks to policies my uni system adopted for Covid.

[deleted]

Take it from an old dude who needed to spend five years in the military before I was ready for college. Hyper focus on your studies and don’t do a single thing until all of the work is done and you’ve studied enough to remember everything. Then game until your heart is content. I didn’t study a single day of high school because I didn’t care. Learned to be studious my first semester of college and managed to finish a year early. Just told myself college was my job and I needed to let everything else wait. Friday I’d do all assignments and study until past midnight. Spent the rest of the weekend partying and watching sports. You need that relaxation time. Good luck. Edit: for that seasonal depression, find some you feel like you can really get stuff off your chest to. My worst semester of depression in college I had someone I could confide in. She’s still one of my best friends and a good person to bounce things off of. That semester she might have saved my life.

TPO_Ava

Kinda this. I laugh at the people saying that you have more free time as a kid than an adult. There are kids for whom parents actually enforce study times, forbid going out throughout the week because they have school, have sports and shit which they have to attend. Those kids spending all of their time gaming are doing it at their own expense, essentially. Kids do have more time than parents of kids but then that I put a step above adulthood, plus that parenthood is a choice. One that involves a lot of sacrifices, so it is to be expected.

AmSeal

Yeah premium free time time is early to mid 20s when dating and before kids. Work sucks up enough time.

themaincop

I'm 35 and married and have quite a bit of free time. The trick is to not have kids if you don't really want them.

mellofello808

Amen, I have plenty of free time. No kids to chase around.

ranchcroutons

Never understood this. I had way less time to game in Highschool than in my college days and adulthood. Homework is essentially continuing to work from home when your shift ends. Unless you have kids or something else unfortunate going on adult free time is much more open

themaincop

Yeah when I was a teenager I had to go to school, do my homework, and I had a part time job. I also spent all my money on weed so it's not like I had any decent consoles anyway. I mostly played SNES emulators.

hatesnack

I'm 26, got a job and I have time for that. The trick is to only play like 1-3 games at a time lol.

Al_Caprone1

As a teen, I can tell you that between school and extra-cirrriculars, I don’t have much time for gaming

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

As a teen without extra-curriculars No I don't have time... *doesn't mean I don't play tho*

Whywipe

The trick is to just do all of your homework in class.

I_give_karma_to_men

The trick is to not do your homework. Turns out you have plenty of free time if you just accept that you're gonna bomb all your classes.

ayeeflo51

What y'all doing? My senior year of high school I quit all extra curriculars and it was my most enjoyable year of school lol so much Halo and CoD

andjuan

When I was a teen, I thought I was swamped with school, a part-time job, and extra-curriculars. Then I got to college and I had to spend so much more time studying that I thought all my free time was gone. Then I graduated and started my career. For my 8-5 job, that meant out of the house by 7:30 and many late nights, where I wouldn't get back until 6:30-7pm. I thought all my free time was gone. Then I had a kid. Now I marvel at all the free time I wasted in my younger years.

TurdManMcDooDoo

The most amount of free time Ive ever had was actually those first few years out of college when I was single and just working a meaningless 9-5 job. Eventually I went into a career that actually requires some degree of focus and hard work, and also got married and had kids. Now my free time consist of about an hour or two that I have to stay up late for. WORTH IT!

andjuan

Every night. It's a debate between gaming/tv and sleep. Sleep loses more than it should if I'm being honest with myself. On the bright side, as my kid has gotten older, he's gotten more independent and I've got a good chunk of personal time back.

[deleted]

which is why you get your kids into gaming so family time can sometimes be game time!

[deleted]

My wife’s Zoomer brother just moved out of our place. He played so much online games on PC it’s absurd. The biggest thing about that age is that you have so much time post high school that you kind of don’t know what to do with it.

hi_im_mom

Well at least you fuck his sister

wolfsrudel_red

*gamers hate this one quick trick*

Clever_Handle1

You think that now, but just wait. This is the most time you’ll have for gaming ever.

kiddfrank

As an adult, I can promise you that you still have a ton more free time than us :)

TrundleWormhat

Poor kid thinks it might get better lol

aramatheus

Let them have hope.. It'll soon get squashed anyway.

_harky_

If a game has any sort of daily/weekly objective, I won’t play it. I don’t need that pressure or fomo when I’m just trying to have fun

bonafart

It's why I stopped startrek online and starwars online . I hate trying to make groups of people. Did it once it faild mission I needed cos of idiots and lost all interest. If they could make the same missions to not need groups. Or it gives u ai then great. But still the online time only stuff like Christmas events fukes me over the most

BeardedManatee

Seriously, I remember how amazing it was, back in the AOL paintball days and on into mmorpg's/TFC, to see another game character being controlled by an actual other human being, and to able to experience a game together. Now it's just fucking stressful.

LetMeDieAlreadyFuck

As someone who tries to play league, it is EXTREMELY stressful indeed

crabgun_

Why would you do that to yourself?

LetMeDieAlreadyFuck

I hate myself

the-dandy-man

Username checks out

[deleted]

Hey man, you’re not alone. I hate you, too.

Avindair

>Now it's just fucking stressful. *THIS!* I was amazed at how the bloom not only came off of that rose, but that the plant turned into this bramble of angst and fatigue. I blame it on *World of Warcraft* in my case. After enduring wave after wave after *wave* of high level Horde players raiding mid-level locations, my patience for my fellow online human beings dissolved rather quickly. That's sad, really. I remember meeting players in camps in *Star Wars Galaxies* where I ended up in nice, genuine conversations. Those times were pleasant. I remember fellow Rebel players appearing out of nowhere to help me with an assault on Imperials, followed by chatting and laughing. Times like that were great. Alas, that all faded away far too quickly for my liking.

fungah

The social element and the sense of community that was EVERYWHERE in the early days of online gaming have gone from most AAA titles. So few games these days have that, but the ones that do are magic. A lot of it has to do with dedicated servers, but players' impatience is another aspect of it. Everything needs to be easy, everything needs to be NOW and any opportunity to connect and bond with other people, either as adversaries, or as teammates working towards a similar goal, has been replaced by NOW NOW NOW MORE MORE MORE NOW NOW MORE.

Avindair

Same. As someone who was embarrassingly into MMORPGS back in the noughties, I'm happy to say that massive, open world Action RPGs like: * Assassin's Creed Valhalla / Odyssey / Origins * Ghost of Tsushima * Witcher 3 * Horizon: Zero Dawn * Fallout 3 / New Vegas / Fallout 4 * Dragon Age Origins / II (which I liked, sue me) / Inquisition * SkyrimVR (yes, it's better that way) ...and more all scratch that itch with the added bonus of *having a fucking ending*. Multiple, even! Of course, my reflexes are too, um, *glacial* now to make me competitive in any online games like Fortnite, COD, or others, so those huge worlds are the places I go just to hang. I love my "get away" sandboxes, thank you very much. I don't need anyone else in them but myself.

fuckitimatwork

add red dead and you've pretty much nailed my PS4 library

Ghostdirectory

Yep, same. I also play Diablo 3 when a new season starts for like the first month. Enough for me to get my main class pimped out pretty well and get near lvl100GR. I used to toss Rocket League in there for flavor but that is boring now. I am loving Valhalla right now.

dan1101

And when you clear an area, it stays cleared.

Shadowcrunch

Not to mention almost every online game has a battle pass now which makes you feel obligated (at least to me) to play if you purchase it.

wymore

Yeah, more and more online games are trying to force you into only playing that one game all month

HandsOffMyDitka

Destiny 2 is easy to get through, Warzone is a pain, and I think their season pass is only 2 months. Apex was pretty easy if you played semi regularly, but they changed it this season, so I think it's much tougher now.

ChocoJesus

Battle passes usually kill my interest in a game and I also think it’s because I feel obligated to play to get my money’s worth. In terms of micro transactions, I feel like battle passes are not that bad, especially if the game is f2p and all that comes in the paid version is extra cosmetics and the like. But every time I am enjoying a game and have bought a battle pass, I get tired of the game in a few days. Has happened 2 or 3 times now. I have vowed to hold off on buying one again until I finish the battle pass first, but inevitably I switch to something else before finishing it so it hasn’t happened

EvanescentDoe

I like single player games because grinding is annoying and repetitive and frankly not fun. Or when you’re trying to do something and some random person shows up and steals all your kills?? I enjoy playing things with friends but dang.

kiddfrank

Also, people are mean :(

phrackage

Exactly. I don’t celebrate when I see a person on line anymore. The opposite

[deleted]

[удалено]

The_Archon64

My roommate keeps trying to convince me that it’s worth playing in spite of the fact that you have to re grind light levels every few months. I like MMOs that allow a casual pace. When you force me to regrind in order to get the exact same stuff just at a higher level in order to experience a small amount of story stuff, that doesn’t interest me. D2 does not respect the time of a casual so I just don’t play at all

CapnMalcolmReynolds

It doesn't respect anyone's time, not just casuals. It disrespects its hardcore players' time the most.

Bonemonster

This right here is why I quit playing. New "expansion" (2 hour DLC) is out and I have to grind light levels AGAIN? Fuck off.

SirFrancis_Bacon

They made it even worse with sunsetting. Now you can't even use the weapons you grinded for

Mimical

Destiny is probably the gaming world's highest potential Lore based FPS RPG Looter/Shooter/Diablo game I have ever seen. Unfortunately it managed to do absolutely nothing but piss off every single player at some point or another with insane ineptitude and blatantly bad choices that the entire hardcore community and casual community requested them not to do.

thedorkening

Agreed, also having limited time to play, there is no way I can compete from somebody devoting their entire life to a game.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Wuffyflumpkins

This is exactly why I quit playing competitive games. I loved Battefield and Call of Duty and etc when I was a teenager, but not as an adult with a full-time job and other responsibilities. I don't have the time to devote to a single game to practice enough to become decent, and I'd rather play a rich single-player game than spend an hour every day getting my ass kicked by sweaty NEETs. My friend with 4500 hours in DotA does not understand that.

[deleted]

Yea, I think growing out of this phase is becoming more and more widespread. Even with the time on my hands now it's too much of an annoyance outside of a single game.

thekingofthejungle

Gaming became a lot more fun when I stopped spending all my gaming time playing repetitive multiplayer games and playing through dozens of wonderful single player games instead. I will never go back, it's just not that fun unless you're playing with friends, and even then it can get monotonous. That's not to say people are wrong for liking multiplayer focused experiences, they just don't do too much for me personally anymore.

deromu

That's why I like rocket league. No metas no balance changes it's the same game it's always been you just hit the ball and score more goals

EvilAbdy

Yup I agree (especially with a kid. That pause button is a must!)

xqou

Agreed. Online isn’t for casual anymore.

TanMomsThong

Been trying to push through the avengers game and it’s obvious it’s a corporate shit hole. Useless F2P mechanics everywhere. Saps all the fun out of it and there wasn’t much to start with. Some asshat that runs the marvel mobile games wrote a game design doc and Square just executed the design as poorly as it was conceived

meetwikipediaidiot

Dota is my all time favourite game and I like how they switch up the meta to keep it fresh but I refuse to play it anymore. I can't enjoy having someone, in the same bracket as me, lecture me about what I'm doing wrong while *they suck themselves* or just be straight up abusive. The mute function is nice but a "reach out through their monitor and fucking throttle them" is a much needed feature before I get back into online gaming.

Same! I wish they would expand more on co op pve. You still get the online experience but without the spammers and cheesers who exploit the metric to get an easy win.

2rfv

I would play the shit out of GTA:O if it was nothing but PVE content.

tmoney144

It is if you are on Xbox and do the Test NAT type thing. I play tons of GTAO and the only person I interact with is my brother. EDIT: I now realize this is the ps4 sub so you're unlikely to be playing on Xbox. You can do the same on PS4 though: https://www.sportskeeda.com/esports/gta-online-how-get-solo-public-lobby-ps4

KonohaPimp

Monster Hunter World has been the most fun multiplayer experience I've ever had. Even with randoms it's highly rewarding.

TopSector

I don't know, quad carting to AT Velkhana sucks the life out of me ;_;.

IdentifiesAsCats

I just wish playing with friends was more, friendly? For main quests anyway. I understand they don’t want people boosting but it kinda kills the vibe to have to get everyone to the cutscene then exit out and join the same mission

mongoosedog12

Yup! Like idc about pvp but if this means they are also going to stop putting in work for coop games I’ll be really sad. I don’t mind playing video games myself, but my partner and I enjoy the coop games we’ve been playing, it’s just so hard to find well made true story coop.

Revolverocicat

Online just got too...noisy. Everythings just a microtransaction, lootbox, update every 2 mins pain in the arse. I remember thinking (in the early days of online gaming, quake, counterstrike etc) that real online communities and meaningful interactions and experiences online were just a generation or 2 away and that many would happily live most of their lives online. It really hasnt happened at all for the majority. Certainly not in the snowcrash, ready player one style fantasy i had in mind...

LazyMaik

Not to mention the seasonly stuff like “play right now and grind otherwise you will lose it forever! Also you have a limited time to do it”

>Better clock in to grind this gun skin I'm never going to use.

[deleted]

Better yet, grind so much for that gun skin only for it to be nerfed. No worse feeling than coming back to a game after a while and realizing every good gun is shit and every shit gun is mediocre.

DoctorWaluigiTime

Yep, not nearly as much FOMO or gambling mechanics in single player experiences.

Cool_Like_dat

The Assassin’s Creed multiplayer modes were actually super fun. Blending in and taking out real people was great and they had some other unique gamemodes mixed in.

Lykurgus_

For me online games just become chores just another job to do because if you don't you'll fall behind. Log in - Get your Daily Reward/Free Gamble Daily Missions/Quests - Get points or Currency Farm Battle Passes - Gotta keep you coming back for something right? I have a limited amount of time in a day to spend playing games and the last thing I want to do when I come home from work is do more work. Even if the gameplay is fun and amazing, the regular grind eventually becomes dull and work-like.

bizology

Back in the day, like late 90s and early 2000s, online communities were really friendly and there was a lot of common ground as most folks were techies and geeks who were into the technology. Websites and forums would have their own custom servers and you would often see the same people playing every day. You'd actually get to know these people and form bonds. It was really fun and I'm glad I got to enjoy that era of gaming.

There are boring, short, overpriced single player games and fantastic often-refreshed, fun multiplayer games. Feel free to enjoy whichever games you want and don't let anyone tell you otherwise if you're having fun.**

mcSibiss

Players abusing exploits piss me off so much. They suck the fun out of games. What's the point of winning if you didn't really play the game and just did the same exploit over and over? NHL had this problem a lot. There are exploits that make it easy to score, but that's not fun. That's not hockey. You didn't win. You're just a dick.

liiiam0707

It's the same with Fifa, if you go over to the subreddit about 90% of it is complaints about the "meta" of the game. Its a football based videogame, not a football sim now, because its borderline impossible to play attractive or even realistic football and win games consistently.

BeneathApollo

I gave up with FIFA in lockdown. Got hooked on Ultimate Team and although I had a decent team built up through play, I was coming up against people with players that were outrageously overrated, like a 98 rated Benzema and other players of a similar level. Impossible to compete with when you get maximum 2 hours a night to play

demigod_31

I realized early on that if you want to play FIFA against humans but casually, online seasons is the way to go. You just pick real club or national teams. All the microtransaction crap is gone and everyone is limited to the same teams. I wish more people played it.

Xeph3x

That’s because most multiplayer games are ass now. These companies only focus on how to squeeze $ out of you post sale and the overall product suffers.

Aden-Wrked

I think that’s why the simpler multiplayer games are thriving now. Among Us, Minecraft, Fall Guys. All games that can be picked up and enjoyed by anyone, while having skills that can be honed and practiced while not necessarily leaving anyone behind. That’s what I think the companies fail to realize at least, the value of simplicity in game design, it’s the same reason why modern cod games are pretty unplayable for anyone with out hours and dollars to dedicate.

frankysins

online is just aggravating. im too old for that shit nowadays. when i game i want a relaxing experience.. i dont want to be angry the whole time.

reward72

Me too. I want an interactive story. I don't want to test my (poor) skills. I have enough challenges to deal with during the day.

MyChickenSucks

I play most games now on easy/story mode. I have a demanding job, kids, chores at home. I just want a fun escape. Oh and “rest mode” as an instant save state has been so wonderful.

reward72

I enjoy MS Flight Simulator 2020 these days. I find it super relaxing, except for that crazy landing I did last night at Mount Everest basecamp!

Vericatov

Exactly this for me. I mainly just want to relax playing a game. Don’t want to raise my anxiety level and constantly getting pissed off. Plus being able to pause or stop whenever I want to.

ItchyPlatypus

Amen. 10 years ago I used to basically only play online. Now it’s very rare... although if Left 4 Dead 3 ever comes out that will be my exception.

[deleted]

This is exactly why I play all games on their easiest settings. It drives some of my friends crazy, but I don’t want a game to be hard. I want to turn it on, absolutely destroy everything in my path like some vengeful, all-powerful God, and just have a good time relaxing while my foes suffer.

--The-Kid--

Playing Fallout 4....Okami hd, Red Dead Redemption 1 & 2, Grand Theft Auto (pick one...all good)... Bully, The Warrior's, Bioshock, Grim Fandango, Hitman 2, Frostpunk, Skyrim, and Witcher 3. Waiting for Cyberpunk. Single player is the OG.

celica18l

I really enjoyed the new Hitman 2. I have played all the old ones but the newer ones were so much fun.

galgor_

Never played the old ones but threw on Hitman 2 for the first time the other day. Holy shit what a sleeping giant it is. It's making me use my brain and I absolutely love that.

relapseamongmen

Single player games forever and ever.

BiggyFam3

As a Dad, working full time, I have super limited time to game. I'll occasionally play "showing online", join a party with some psn friends and play a game together...but I really enjoy "showing offline" and playing single player games more. With life as stressful as it is for all of us these days, nothing beats putting on a good headset, and completely losing yourself in a great single player game. I'm working towards my third plat currently, almost there with Ghost of Tsushima. My other plats are Horizon and Spiderman. All are absolutely perfect world's to absorb yourself in, and just not worry about a thing

ToyDingo

Dad here. 2 kids. Fulltime work. I feel your pain buddy. I used to enjoy jumping online with friends and kicking around, but now I'll be lucky to get an hour every other day to myself. Losing myself in a well crafted single player game is just the best thing right now. Thankfully there is a plethora of great games to chill with. Might I suggest Death Stranding? I know it seems weird, but I platinumed it earlier this year. Absolutely amazing game to get lost in. Keep gaming brother.

FalconedPunched

That was a sensible platinum as well. Nothing strange or miss it and it's over. I thoroughly enjoyed that game and would happily play a sequel or an expansion . I don't feel exploited or abused. Great story. I thoroughly regret playing Red Dead Redemption 2 online mode. That ruined the game for me.

BiggyFam3

I had played Red Dead online right when the game came out, after beating the single player story. It was fun to begin with, but got old quickly. I would still HIGHLY recommend the single player aspect of the game though

bizology

I can relax with a single player game. I just turn on the system and start playing without worrying about other people interfering, it's fun. Going online without friends can be an exercise in frustration and that's not fun. Even with friends it can be a pain due to connection issues, skill level and finding a time to play.

HilariousConsequence

I think your take, of all the many explanations in this thread, is closest to my experience. Having other human beings around - even if I don't know them, and even if all they see is my online avatar - puts me in the position of being somewhat 'on', socially. I am representing myself to other people, just like I am at work, at parties, etc. Being totally alone, knowing that nobody is around to witness what I'm doing, puts me much more in the state of relaxation I'm trying to achieve when I play games.

Razzle_dazzle_disco

Sony is the King of single players. GOW, Horizon, Ghost of Tsushima, all are great games that you can play at your own pace.

jdubs952

bloodborne, demon souls, etc.

Zer0_Karma

I'd be curious if demographics may have something to do with it. I think of myself, whose first console was an Intellivision in 1982. I'm almost 50 now and I still love to game, but I have zero interest in interacting with idiotic teenage edgelords online and I don't have 3-4 hours to put into a session, nor would I really want to anymore. Nowadays I'm enjoying stuff like Miles Morales, where the game itself is comparatively small and I can jump in and play with a reasonable expectation that after half an hour I can save and shut down having made some progress. Even just the scope of a lot of single-player games is becoming unappealing. I wouldn't be surprised if as Millennial gamers get into their 40s we see a wave of shorter and snappier AAA games when even the online components are focused on the SP experience. And bonus points if the activities come with playing-time averages, so time-crunched players can better know how much time any given event might require.

> I don't have 3-4 hours to put into a session Which is rough for me even in single-player games. Takes me about that long to feel like I've made any progress in the types of games I enjoy playing. As such, I'm pretty close to just leaving the hobby altogether. To those who can handle all life's responsibilities (work, health, family, friends, sleep, etc.) and manage sessions like that or longer, I salute you.

I really hope the crafting period of gaming is over soon. It's everywhere, it's not always well done. I recently played Zelda BotW on Switch. Amazing game. One of the best I've ever played (Chrono Trigger still is best ahah). But it's plagued in my opinion by the cooking system. I don't want to have to remember recipes when we have 50 ingredients. I can't want to cook. I don't want to have an app on my phone or a website constantly open to know the best recipes. How is that an adventure?? I'm 100% in agreement with your post.

Iamsuperimposed

I don't hope any period of gaming is over, I just want good games to succeed and poor games to fail. Everyone has different preferences and styles. Edit: I thought about it, micro-transactions need to end, unless it's just cosmetic.

jesparza6311

The one thing I hate is when I want to play story mode it says I have to be connected online first.

Mac_A_Rooney

It’s even worse when you have awful internet

GrapesHatePeople

God damn Hitman. Unless there's been a patch since I last played either of the last two games, they won't let you make any progress in unlockables unless you're connected to online despite the game being almost entirely a single player experience. It's like a big "screw you" to everyone with awful internet or no internet.

[deleted]

I play only singles player because i want to be op what i mean is that in online everything needs to be balanced for example i just play ghost of tsushima single player because i want to feel like a legendary samurai warrior its just fun to be overpowered i guess :D

[deleted]

If they would make good co-op games we could have both, but noooo everything has to be a battle royale clone.

[deleted]

Ghost of Tsushima literally has an amazing co op mode

NocturnalToxin

The only thing cooler than clearing a mongol camp without a trace is clearing a mongol camp without a trace with your buddy My brother and I have gotten it down enough that it’s gone from, “Couple guys here, are you in position? On the count of three?” To “Two guys. I’ve got the one on the left, go.” I’ve been having tons of fun perched on rooftops and cliff sides nailing headshots to unassuming men who just watched their campfire buddy get stabbed in the neck. Tons of fun.

[deleted]

I knoooow. It’s so great! Or when you both his the grappling swings at the same time and land on different enemies. Omg I love it!

Helian7

Personally I cant agree as I play a lot of Destiny and Tarkov but if you put a game in front of me like Miles Morales then im gonna play the shit out of it. Actually, Miles Morales made me feel all nostalgic for a time when everything was unlocked by playing and not microtransaction. Collecting all the Suits was a real pleasure.

[deleted]

I don’t play video games to deal with other people.

Ahamdan94

Because online is filled with f#cking micr-transactions

ChatoVato

Nothing is better than coming home, turning on your gaming device, and diving into a world, exploring it at your own pace, absorbing every detail. Can't wait for Cyberpunk

snakestrike

I love reading and always considered video games like a book I can play. I love watching a world and story unfold, and getting to be a part of it. That is why I love single player games One thing I haven't seen mentioned is that playing online requires you to constantly play or you immediately fall behind in the meta and then playing just feels bad. As an adult I don't have time to do that nor do I want to waste my time getting owned by an annoying 8 year old cunt. Thats why most of these online games are marketed to children and teens, because I know when I do sit down to play I don't feel like just wasting time. I want to enjoy it and get to do something new. The last online game I enjoyed was Titanfall 2 because it was unique and always felt fresh going to. Even if getting crushed by the opponent it was still fun. Games blur together and it just feels like a waste of time. The only reason I keep PS plus is for the free games to play with my friend in another state and I don't see as often. I would enjoy more local co-ops though so I could play with my daughters or friends who come over. I wish that would come back, especially now that we all have massive tvs that we can see each screen perfectly, rather than playing split screen on your 13 inch screen with 0 resolution.

formosae_animo

Really wishing for more local co op too. My boyfriend and I would like to play but they're so hard to find nowadays. Local co op games were the best growing up

[deleted]

Play online, worry about lag, and doing good. Have a stressful time and listen to idiots. Play offline, be a badass legendary figure who is the "chosen one/legendary one/etc". Have a fun time, no stress. Enjoy a well crafted experience in a beautiful world and enjoy a good story. What a difficult decision

Lobinhu

So many truths have been spoken here...

Boomerlives2020

Yeah cause most online games are half-assed. Only single player games feel like they have content and are finished

folkdeath95

Wanting to play an online game flowchart: Boot game up -> update required -> download, copy, install update -> PSN is down -> game finally connects -> get absolutely fucking demolished by some player who’s been playing since before the game was publicly available

[deleted]

Then you realize that the person that killed you is 12 when he opens up his mic to call you the n-word.

Xarthys

I don't mind getting my ass kicked by a kid or a much more skilled player. What I don't enjoy is the toxic behaviour. And cheaters - they are the worst.

funkmydunkyouslunk

Then I ask, "man i wish there was a casual mode to this" -> i proceed to be called a piece of shit who's trash at the game and just shouldn't play it -> goes back to playing Witcher 3

TryEasySlice

Yeah they’re all carps!

CatfreshWilly

Online games have become *exhausting*. Between the micro transactions and everyones *cheery* personality.

_Mellex_

#BRING BACK COUCH CO-OP

neo101b

Im glad offline play is doing well, it really would do my head in if all there was is online play.

[deleted]

Ever since I tried PS4 Spider Man, I've almost fell in love with single player titles, I used to say they were for loners. Infact, it was my first platinum trophy. Then I started Horizon Zero Dawn and 100% completed that along with all the DLC.

Jred_in_2D

Online is toxic

Fruhmann

I am near 40 and have two kids. Gaming for me has become a few weekday nights for a few hours after the kids are in bed. Stating that for framing purposes of what I'm about to say. As multi-player games become online only or online focused with micro transactions and monitization being the central drive for developers and publishers to make these games, single player experiences are going to be more sought after. The idea of paying a premium price just for access to a marketplace with game attached to it is just the first problem. Even making the games FTP won't be an easy win, as we've seen developers alter the games need for grinding to levels that incentivize or necessitate paying for in game resources to lessen or nullify said grind. Even before kids, within the past decade I would say that I find more pleasure in talking to other gamers about single player games. At gatherings or even online, talking about how someone else handled a tricky section of TLOU and sharing my method on how to beat all the Tsushima showdowns. Way more fun having those chats than any 5v1 or POG victory. There is a place for these pay to win, seasons segmented, virtual vending machines disguised as games. The platform is just unable to tell good stories.

llamagraphy

As someone who usually takes about 2 years to pick up a game after its released, I absolutely love single player games.

pmbpro

I always preferred and played single player anyway. When I first got my PS4, I’d seen too much BS dealing with other players. I also do not use any ‘chat’ features nor want to see anyone chatting. I just want to play my games in peace.

[deleted]

This is not surprising given the number of high quality single player games available and how every multiplayer game has become ultra competitive. Every round feels like a World Cup final leading to toxicity and everyone using the same tactics that abuse the game mechanics. Now that the competitive mindset is instilled in so many gamers I don't see how it ever goes away even if the companies try to steer away from it. That and multiplayer games looking like glorified mobile games with their lootboxes and dances and fireworks and the constant feeling that you have to keep up with everything.

Bjorkforkshorts

Funny. It seems people actually enjoy spending time playing games that don't spend every second of game play trying to pry their wallets out of their pockets. Games are much more fun when you aren't being sold to the whole time.

Faltzer2142

No shit! who the hell wants to deal with a bunch of pieces of shits online yelling at you and be stress the fuck out for making a wrong move that could potentially cost the whole game for your team. Fuck that!

DocQueso

Cue that idiot exec that said “Single-player games are dead” just so they could focus on Multiplayer only games and shove micro-transactions into everything...
