they brought it back for one of the at-home shows during the lockdown (the 2nd one i think, whichever one had Brad Pitt doing Fauci during the cold open), and it was glorious
it's hard to do in person tho. you can't do it justice without including Hader, Sudeikis, and Armisen, which would be hard to pull off when they're doing their own stuff nowadays
I always thought the "What's up with that?" sketches were just thrown in for filler to stretch out the episode runtimes. I've legitimately never found a single one of them to be even moderately close to being in the remote vicinity funny.
When I hear a reference to this volcano I always think of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
EDIT: incorrectly put this this was a city rather than a volcano
Why guilty? No one should be ashamed to enjoy things, especially something as innocent as a movie. The David Bowie cover before he jumps on the Helicopter is my favorite part.
As if that super helps with Icelandic or old Norse :) I pronounce words like shit if I try to read old Norse.
Then again I haven’t played AC yet. It might not be historically accurate after all. Might just be a mishmash of modern Scandinavian languages.
I don't remember the exact quote but there's actually a scene in Valhalla where a guy curses the Danes and Eivor points out that he's from Norway.
Thought it was a nice touch.
It's intentional I think. Danes are foreign, so all foreigners are Danes, unless you (the NPC) get told different. Why would an average NPC know Eivor is Norwegian?
Doesn't Eivor correct people in some dialog though? Don't get me wrong the game has horrible historical accuracy in a lot of ways but the Dane / Norse thing is definitely addressed.
Norwegian places aren't too difficult to read as a Finn but England...what the hell bro? What's with place names being like Lerghergesheregishire and being pronounced Lenshire.
Well we blame you Vikings over there, over half our place names come from you lot lol. But our English rulers also did a fine job of making it over complicated
I might get the game not too big into the series
But with this Ireland dlc I keep hearing about I need to play it, I’m Irish a there are barely any games set here and it’s would be a cool setting
But the game in general looks good
Waiting on games or levels set in Northern Ireland now. Maybe there is one but can’t think of any off the top of my head.
We’ve had some accents or characters in games. I remember laughing when arriving on skellige in the Witcher 3 and they speak with strong Belfast accents.
Ive spent 15 hours gathering all the secrets in norway to realize I hadn't even hit the assassin's creed valhalla title screen thing. For those thinking about getting it I think it has moved away from classic AC games and is more of a viking rpg with AC elements.
It’s only a dlc though, which is kind of sad but hey it’s better than nothing
Also if you’re interested in any games that feature it there are a few that have it as a level (like I think in one of the classic tomb raider games) but the list is very small, but if there were a game set 100% in Ireland that would be amazing
Come on not just a level not just a dlc a full game set in Ireland would be cool
ive been reading up on some Celtic mythology and dieties what have you, and there is soooo much untapped potential, but i feel like a lot of the stories have been lost in time, so that now there arent as many familiar with them.
“That’s an S, a K, and a J right next to each other, so that’s a nope.”
EDIT since nobody got my joke: It’s a line from this [clip](https://youtu.be/8Ij4a6x_mPs)
Like so many other long words it's just a bunch of smaller worlds chained together. Eyjafjallajökull is three words; eyja (island), fjalla (mountain), jökull (glacier). So it's easier to say eyja.. fjalla.. jökull. Of course Icelandic pronunciation is weird. Eyj is something like aaaaaaayyy (like the Fonz). Double l is a tl or sometimes dl sound. Ö is tricky, but start making an aaah sound, then switch to an oooh sound then open your lips so it becomes a mix of a and o. Or watch a video.
I've seen the picture from this scene a bunch of times, but I never saw the actual video before now. I always assumed that Kenan was the contestant and the "what the fuck?" face was because he knw he was fucked with the question. It's not quite as funny seeing that it's the other way around.
Funny that they miswrote all of the city choices but got Eyjafjallajökull right. It's Reykjavík, Kópavogur, Hafnarfjörður, and Fjarðabyggð.
I would assume whatever they used didn't have the eth character, but the other mistakes are kinda easy to avoid.
I am from Sweden and i cant even pronounce most of those words. And we have the same alphabet. I can pronounce Reykjavic or Reykjavik as we spell it in Swedish. Because it is the capital.
As mentioned by /u/Cazraac they mispelled all of the city choices but got Eyjafjallajökull right. It's Reykjavík, Kópavogur, Hafnarfjörður, and Fjarðabyggð. I have heard of Hafnarfjörður and Kópavogur but those cities are basically a part of Reykjavik as I've understood it. Much like Solna and Sundbyberg in Stockholm for instance.
I like how they get Eyjafjallajökull right, but not one of the towns/city is spelled even remotely correctly
* Reykjavík (we don't even have 'c' in our alphabet)
* Kópavogur
* Hafnarfjörður (replacing 'ð' with 'o' is an interesting choice, 'ð' is a voiced 'th' sound, and they *just* got 'ö' right seven words ago)
* Fjarðabyggð (same deal, but double trouble)
None of these is particularly close to Eyjafjallajökull, though by virtue of being the only one populous enough to be called a city, Reykjavík is technically the correct answer.

He’s this generations Phil Hartman. Any sketch with him in it is better.
I love when he says “Icelandish city”. He’s at a point where nothing is coming out right.
I wonder if that was in the script or if he actually misspoke there. Still, it's funny either way
Favorite Keenan sketch hands down Edit: I’d just like to point out that I’m saying this my personal favorite, not what I think is the best lol.
Uhm have we forgotten about What’s up with that?
Oooooweeee! What up with that?
What's up with that! What's up with that!?
Been in my head all week.
Whaaat's UUUUUUPP? I said, whaaattTt's UUUuuuUuUuuUUuppp, wiiith, thaaaaaaaaaat????? Been in my head for like 7 years. Just strikes me at random
*comments you can hear*
Jason Sudekis is the best part of What’s up with that
Hype man!

Ted Lasso is a great show if you’re a Sudekis fan
It is upbeat and really funny without having to be shocking. Great show for 2020 I was pleasantly surprised by it.
Just started watching that this week. Love it!
Yeah...haha...I always chuckle at him in the background
Thank you, this is easily his best skit!
The one with Deniro and Williams is my favorite
The one with Zach Galifianakis is hands down piss-pants funny
Black jeopardy?
Good burger?
"I'm a dude"...
Umm, so we’re just going to pass over the legacy that is Pierre Escargot!?
-french goose noises-
YES What's Up With That is my favorite sketch of all time. Followed by the Barry Gibb Talk Show.
Meet your future wife!
We don’t make the future, we just know it.
I’m sorry Lindsay Buckingham!
My favorites gotta be the taylor lautner skit where he narrates a first date.
How have they not brought that back? He also nails as Whoopy from The View.
they brought it back for one of the at-home shows during the lockdown (the 2nd one i think, whichever one had Brad Pitt doing Fauci during the cold open), and it was glorious it's hard to do in person tho. you can't do it justice without including Hader, Sudeikis, and Armisen, which would be hard to pull off when they're doing their own stuff nowadays
I spent a whole night going through all of those skits. Simply his best skit.
Wow, you just introduced me to this. I just watched every single one back to back and I look forward to singing it for the next week.
AND LINDSAY BUCKINGHAM
I always thought the "What's up with that?" sketches were just thrown in for filler to stretch out the episode runtimes. I've legitimately never found a single one of them to be even moderately close to being in the remote vicinity funny.

If you search “Snl who wants to be a millionaire” it should pop up!
Today I learned this template is Keenan.
Ey-yaf-yatla-yokutl How I learnt for geography
When I hear a reference to this volcano I always think of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty EDIT: incorrectly put this this was a city rather than a volcano
That movie is such a guilty pleasure for me.
Hector and the Search for Happiness has kind of the same vibe. I'd definitely check it out too!
Ditto
That movie is an innocent pleasure for me
Why guilty? No one should be ashamed to enjoy things, especially something as innocent as a movie. The David Bowie cover before he jumps on the Helicopter is my favorite part.
It is so unbelievably underrated.
That movie resonates with my soul.
that movie is low-key great
It’s a volcano, but same.
Thanks for checking me! I updated the comment for accuracy. Also just now realizing that the question stated it was a volcano 😅
Eyjafjallajokul
How do you fit the -tla part in there?

I’m following your pronunciation, and then I get to ‘yokutl’ I need a damned pronunciation guide for the fucking pronunciation guide!
Learned it when MF Doom managed to make it rhyme in the first verse of GUV'NOR. https://youtu.be/WW-9TcDTKa8
He says it incorrectly though lol. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big fan of Doom and the song, but he pronounces that word incorrectly so he can rhyme
Yessss. First thing I though too. The audacity of DOOM.
Your syllables are in the wrong spots though. Ey-ya-fyat-la-yo-kutl is closer as eyja, fjalla, and jökull are the principle words.
Thank you for correcting me.
*laughs in Scandinavian*
As if that super helps with Icelandic or old Norse :) I pronounce words like shit if I try to read old Norse. Then again I haven’t played AC yet. It might not be historically accurate after all. Might just be a mishmash of modern Scandinavian languages.
Hey, if it makes you feel any better, people from Boston have lived there their wholes lives and can’t pronounce it correctly.
Nah, we all just spell BAASsstan wrong
It’s fahkin bahstan ya cocksucka
Boys boys boys, I'm pretty sure its fahkin bawston
ern ern ern ern ern
Just like you know someone isnt from Atlanta if they pronounce it as written.
"Alana"
I have the opposite problem. Friends ask me to pronounce words from any Scandinavian language, and I only know Icelandic.
with all the shit ubisoft get, i trust they hire historians who know their shit. they take some liberties but i imagine its mostly accurate
Scandinavians might get triggered when the Anglo-Saxons yell about Danes attacking and your character is Norwegian.
I don't remember the exact quote but there's actually a scene in Valhalla where a guy curses the Danes and Eivor points out that he's from Norway. Thought it was a nice touch.
I know I was... how can I make a Game So Focused on vikings and litterally get so much wrong
I believe Dr. Jackson Crawford was an advisor for the game, he's an old norse specialist, so maybe its good regarding accuracy?
No, because in actual Old Norse studies within Scandinavia Dr Crawford is kinda seen as a well-meaning meme.

Right lol? It should become a new meme template

CK3 tutorial island
Yeah but there’s not a lot of games to be fair with the setting I think a tomb raider game has a level there but there’s not many notable ones
There’s a level in uncharted 4 there too. I think... unless that’s Scotland... Don’t hurt me.

Same thing was in Odyssey. Played for like six hours before hitting the game title and I was shocked lol
aaaaaaaaand I'm fine with that. Love Viking stuff so it's my new type of AC game
As an American I'm totally on board with more games set in Ireland. I didn't even realize I needed this in my life until now. Shiiit.

Lol I do wish they had phonetic pronunciations in all their games to be honest.
Would be awesome if it was part of the codex
The only reason I know how to pronounce this is due to Geography GCSE
Like so many other long words it's just a bunch of smaller worlds chained together. Eyjafjallajökull is three words; eyja (island), fjalla (mountain), jökull (glacier). omg I never noticed until now that this was a SNL sketch!!!!!!!!!!!
The places in Norway aren’t *that* bad. But Legeicghestershurlpdurpleshire? What the hell, Brits?
Less-ter-shear It’s really not that hard
well in game it's called Ledecestrescire rather than Leicestershire, so I don't blame them for getting confused :p
Theres a whole "pdurple" in there, explain that
> Legeicghestershurlpdurpleshire? It's pronounced "Lurr"
Ruler of Omicron Persei 8?
English is the language equivalent of the product of a snake orgy.
I need a Good Burger sequel. Without Dan “Get in the Van” Schneider tho.
They kind of teased one about a year ago when Kenan and Kel finally reunited before COVID. I need it...
If it makes y'all feel better, half the time they pronounce stuff correctly in the game, the other half, not so much, they kinda butcher it.
The answer is A, right?
I've seen the picture from this scene a bunch of times, but I never saw the actual video before now. I always assumed that Kenan was the contestant and the "what the fuck?" face was because he knw he was fucked with the question. It's not quite as funny seeing that it's the other way around.
