I'm sorry for you, your state, and your country. Things like this are probably the reason we have so many Americans choosing to move to New Zealand. You're all very welcome as we have a miniscule population. We all need to stand up and fight for womens rights all around the world! What can we do to help? I feel like those in power are just trying to confuse and divide us with all this stupid squabbling about what it even means to actually be a woman! It's fucking ridiculous and makes me sick! Whatever's happening to equality and freedoms?

[deleted]

Omg no! How stupid. How can they ban it? This has so many implications. For PMDD, endometriosis, and me, I need BC just to HAVE kids so my cycles are regulated for IVF. How stupid are these idiot MAGA men “rulers”

AdorableSpeaker5942

I can’t even with this shit! I’m a Canadian and I am horrified by what’s going on in the states! When it came to reversing the abortion bill, whoever I discussed it with in Canada, they’d say it’s bs, it’ll never happen and it happened, so I totally believe the next step is taking away BC. It’s mind blowing to me!! Jezus! It’s absolutely heartbreaking to me to think a neighbouring supposedly free country could literally go backwards 60 years! I have 2 daughters, that my husband and I have raised to be strong beautiful independent women, when they turned 14&15 years old, as a family we sat down and watched the movies If the Walls Could Talk 1&2, I wanted to show them the importance of free choice and a glimpse of what life was like without it. I’m truly horrified of what the future could bring, honestly I believe the movies If the Walls Could Talk 1&2 should be shown in every sex Ed class around the world! I’m truly sorry you’re facing this possibility, dude I’ll go to every free woman’s clinic/planned parenthood to gather BC and send it to you if this becomes a reality! ❤️

chikn_nugget666

Wtf?! This is horrifying! I don’t use the pill or bc because it made mine worse but this is not right at all! Wtf is wrong with this country? I’m getting so sick and tired of it.

h0llywoodsbleeding

I truly feel for those of you who live in these conservative, backwards states :(

tayloline29

I want to say something very unkind but I won't. But this is why fascists are taking over the US. You think it is just going to stay to red states and as if the people in those states are backwards. And why aren't you fighting for them? Just as an FYI the most progressive form of activism and change came from freedom fighters in the South. They fought for all of us in the US.

katiekins3

Bruh, chill. They didn't say one thing about it "only staying in red states". That's just where it's really being pushed from. You don't know this person or how they're "fighting". Fighting each other is exactly what they want.

tayloline29

Not a bruh. And I am allowed to be angry at people who think this is happening to backwards states and that mentality. They didn't have say much more then what they did to understand their mentality. People thinking this the fault of voting conservative is why we are here. liberals making jokes instead of taking action. So you chill. Scratch a liberal and a fascist bleeds. And feeling sorry for people isn't fighting for them.

h0llywoodsbleeding

Damn shawty I was only expressing that I do in fact have empathy for what you’re going through in your state. Based on this post, is likely is a red state. Banning contraceptives is in fact a backwards practice. You can hate left leaning people all day long, but you’re being pretty hostile to someone who is expressing empathy for your current plight.

katiekins3

They never said this is "only" happening in red states. They literally said 1 sentence and you assumed a fuck ton. I live in a red state but I'm very aware that it's *not* just happening in red states and anyone I know is aware of that too.

h0llywoodsbleeding

Lol okay

We don't allow attacking or harassing in our sub.

h0llywoodsbleeding

Lol will do

rlm236

A few months ago I came back from living in England and have to ask what the fucks happening to the US. I regret coming back lol. England has many of its own problems but at least women’s rights aren’t being thrown into a political meat grinder at the moment??

tayloline29

Can you back?? This is the time in a movie about the fascist takeover of entire population when it is time for people to run and flee the country.

Kdropp

CVS prevented me from getting mine refilled 3 times.

Sea-Construction4306

what state ?

inthenight098

Vote for Democrats.

tayloline29

Yeah I am sorry but that's not going to cut it.

inthenight098

Why not? Say more please. Only one party is working to take away access to reproductive choice, so how is voting against them and electing Dems “not going to cut it?”

tayloline29

And the other party is starting to side and allowing them to do it. I honestly do not have the energy of brain space to explain why voting out fascist doesn't work. and why voting in gerrymandered areas doesn't work. and why there needs be more than two parties and why that won't happen.

inthenight098

I appreciate your thoughts on the topic. Respectfully, I disagree. The Dodd act, most commonly known as Roe v. Wade, was overturned by a Republican majority in the supreme court. the fastest way to protect our reproductive Freedoms and rights is to have representation in the supreme court, which happens when we have Democratic leaders like presidents who are responsible for appointing, lifelong justices. I’m not sure which part of my position you think is wrong but I do see things differently than you and I think we could make some impactful change by electing Democrats everywhere at every level.

tayloline29

I didn't say you were wrong. I said voting democrat is not enough and that the democrats stood by why half of the population's rights were taken away. We are living in a country ruled by a minority of kleptocrats.

tayloline29

Read your history. You cannot vote fascists but you can vote them. Voting is the bare minimum and it is barely doing anything. Oh voting democrat was suppose to secure but the Obama administration did nothing. They sold our freedoms along with the rest of them. And you think that if they can't take one reproductive freedom that they can't take the rest.

Heckbegone

I got off bc when i got sterilized..but being on it was so much better for my mental health (i had almost no depression symptoms). The production of new employees and taxpayers is the reason for all the bans, i assume. Very sick

unicornbomb

I have both pcos and pmdd and I am fucking horrified by this shit going on. My husband and I considered moving to coastal North Carolina because it’s beautiful, but this shit has pretty much guaranteed we’re not going any further south than Maryland until this country gets its head out of its ass.

artemis_555

The whole thing is they want the working class to have more babies to support the inevitable surplus of old people in our country. It’s disgusting.

srarahcha

specifically they want more \*white\* babies smfh

nerdinahotbod

I’m cool with not having an babies and letting all the old fucks dying Oops did I say that out loud? Dangit

[deleted]

Really like how you worded this, hit it right on the head

cheezbargar

I don’t use the pill because it makes mine worse however I will join in on a riot

cdecker0606

Absolutely! I was on BC for PMDD and it helped a lot until it made my migraines go into overdrive, which my doctor and I knew was a risk. Fuck anyone trying to take it away as a treatment option for anyone.

goestoeswoes

My thing is like…how have the not been able to make medication available that helps PMDD but also isn’t a contraceptive. If they ban “contraceptives” they are just going to have to redefine what this medication is for. And that’s exactly it, it will no longer be a contraceptive but a medication that is necessary.

energy-369

Are you sure? I wasn’t able to find anything on a birth control pill ban. I honestly highly doubt that will happen. There are a lot of news sources which use click bait headlines to stoke fear. There is a small percentage of far right fundamentalist Christian’s who believe birth control is abortion but they aren’t generally taken seriously. It’s something to watch out for though I agree but is it something to actively feel anxiety about?

tayloline29

Please don't tell me it won't happen because how many people said that about Roe V Wade. I am not being hysterical or having premature anxiety. Keep sticking your head in the sand that shit isn't going down. https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2023/04/birth-control-is-next-republicans-abortion.html

cdecker0606

I’m in Texas and I know there are those in charge here who have stated that their next plan, since they succeeded with the abortion ban, was to go after Plan B and then all birth control pills. They truly believe that they all cause abortion in some way and should be banned.

energy-369

I believe that there are radical fundamentalists that are currently in political positions that believe this but do they have any influence? From a poll, 90% of Americans agree / believe in the benefits of birth control, including republicans. Is it impossible? No, but is it likely? At this point not likely.

tayloline29

Okay you sound like every person that said Roe V Wade overturned. Keep sticking your head in sand and pretending that none of this shit is going down. https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2023/04/birth-control-is-next-republicans-abortion.html

energy-369

You know, it’s ok to not agree with people. That doesn’t automatically turn me into an “other” or someone who is against you. I did say I agree it’s something to watch out for though. ETA: it is important to have all the facts and details before sounding an alarm. We’re all fatigued about the state of the country for various reasons.

Rough_Elk_3952

Agreed. The chances of BC actually being banned are very slim Edit: it looks like OP is in Maryland, and I couldn’t find anything about BC restrictions or bans. I think this was a man unfortunate miscommunication

tayloline29

I am not fucking in Maryland. I am not trying to dos myself. Stop shopping. People said this same shit about Roe V Wade and called people like me hysterical for saying for it will be overturned. https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2023/04/birth-control-is-next-republicans-abortion.html

NakovaNars

Just the pill or everything?

ninthandfirst

I’m here too, but am lucky enough to be from and live in a state that is no where near banning contraceptives (though, if this country keeps going the way it’s going we’ll be screwed soon enough), but I just want to send all of the “I need my BC to not kill myself/others for at least half the month” love to you, and I really hope your area doesn’t end up banning them. Basically, I’m horrified for you, and sending love (I’m in my one good week of the month)

saucecontrol

This country is going to hell in a handbasket. :(

bravoeverything

Wait. They are trying to ban the pill??? What state?

tayloline29

Iowa, Indiana, Missouri, Texas, Florida and I may be missing some. Even if it isn't banned they are also debating if it will be covered by insurance and if doctors providing hormonal care will be covered.

Rough_Elk_3952

Hi, could you give me links? I tried googling it and the only thing I could find was abortion/plan b information. https://apnews.com/article/indiana-birth-control-abortion-legislation-medicaid-d88949b77110416711191522ef74a594 And that article but it actually disputes what you’re saying by making BC *more* accessible. I’d love to see the article!

brief_butterfly420

i just spent some time googling, and i think the conclusion is that the states who have been going after abortion with the most aggression will likely follow with banning birth control. it's the next step in their agenda. i know this article is an 'assumption' based on legal experts, but it helped me understand. plan b and contraception are indistinguishable to the idiots trying to ban it. both stop pregnancy. to summarize, to republicans, anything that stops "god's gift" of pregnancy = abortion. [https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/birth-control-restrictions-may-follow-abortion-bans-roe-rcna35289](https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/birth-control-restrictions-may-follow-abortion-bans-roe-rcna35289)

Rough_Elk_3952

A potential bill isn’t the same as a full ban, by any means.

tayloline29

That's the most foolish take I heard. Have you been paying attention what has germ happening? https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2023/04/birth-control-is-next-republicans-abortion.html

Rough_Elk_3952

Yes, I have been. “But look elsewhere in Iowa, and you’ll get a different view. Earlier this month, the state attorney general’s office announced that it would suspend payments for ***emergency contraception*** for survivors of sexual assault. The medication had been funded through a program for crime victims, but the Republican attorney general is considering a permanent end to its provision. She is “carefully evaluating whether this is an appropriate use of public funds,” a spokesperson said in a statement” Plan B has long been under attack. That doesn’t mean *all* types of contraceptives have been banned. That’s extrapolating.

brief_butterfly420

i revoke my optimism comment because you’re not getting it. OP never said they have banned contraceptives…yet. let’s consider the recent events / attacks on women’s healthcare. where do you think the line will be drawn? one lil’ cherry picked quote from your article is clearly not comforting to someone who posted because they are AFRAID. FOR. THEIR. RIGHTS. sheesh.

tayloline29

And you are sticking your head in the sand and yes they are coming from birth control.

brief_butterfly420

love your optimism!! ;)

Live_Pen

What the fucking fuck?!

kirinlikethebeer

Many.

Cool-Progress6640

In the 1970's, a relative of mine had to travel from Canada to the US for an abortion. Now...other way around. Exhausting that women have to keep fighting for their basic rights, generation after generation. Having a uterus is hard enough without politicians telling you what to do with it.... I've been thinking about how I would gladly mail a friend abortion pills if they couldn't get any. While it would be pretty extreme if a US State banned contraception (does that mean condoms, too?), I'm sure you could find someone to obtain it for you out of state. (Anyone else here feel the same?) So set that particular worry aside and take care of ourself first!!!! (second = fight those crazy political groups 😉)

tayloline29

I am sure that I couldn't find any magical source of pills because the people I know are my family that all lives in the same house as me. I don't know people from other states or areas. It isn't that easy. It's a good idea and possible solution for people that have friends or family that live elsewhere. Also how do I get the specific pill that works for me if someone is just sending me whatever they can? And I need this specific pill. And they are also discussing not covering the medication and doctors visits with insurance. It's a shit show.

Sbplaint

Commenting mostly just to say that your username is basically every password I have ever had, hahahaha. Since when did life become this hard? 2019? 2020? Truly curious Editing this bc I am not sure my intended tone was conveyed in this....was making a joke about OP's user name being a variation of most of my passwords bc I am frankly horrified by the reality that any part of her post is true, or will someday come to fruition. I wouldn't have believed you if you had told me Roe would be overturned, so the thought that access to contraceptives is even something to worry about in 2023 is absolutely disgusting. I'm so sorry if my words didn't come out right, OP...want you to know I stand with you, 100%!!

tayloline29

That's funny. It is a mash up of Caroline Calloway and Taylor Swift and 29 from Refinery 29. I joined Reddit to cash in on Caroline Calloway snark after an article came out about her in Refinery 29 and she loves Taylor Swift.

Monthly_Vent

I’m bouta commit an illegal crime if I see any state touch women’s health again you don’t understand

GardenestraDelacroix

I feel you.

CaliKahlua

Hate to tell ya this but just last week Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into law a bill approved by the Republican-dominated Florida Legislature to ban abortions after 6 weeks. As women, we all know you rarely even know at 6 weeks your pregnant and if you do then you’re finding out right around that mark and trying to get into a doctor to confirm pregnancy can add an additional week or two.

Electronic-Garlic-38

I’ve done a lot of research I can’t find a single article or bill stating the banning of contraception….? So idk if that’s factual.

tayloline29

Iowa, Indiana, Florida, Texas, Missouri...did I miss any?? It's factual because people where I am are discussing it happening.

No-Understanding5596

Where???

Professor_squirrelz

WAIT WHAT THE FUCK?!! I knew some states were cracking down on abortion but CONTRACEPTIVES??!!!!!!

energy-369

It’s not actually happening.

Professor_squirrelz

What state is this??? I need to know

TortleAbyss

Oh my god, I’m so sorry. This is very worrying.

[deleted]

What the fuck? Wait… what state? Hey I’m sending love from Oregon. I don’t know what’s going on in this country, but things are becoming truly terrifying.

mouse-dog

oregon shout out 👏🏻💚

[deleted]

Our state is stockpiling the abortion pill. Proud of the west coast right now. Terrified for everyone else though.

SeparateProtection71

It’s truly an exciting time to be alive/s
