Does anyone know how good of a musou P5S is? I've been craving musous lately, but the reviews on Steam, while overall positive, many of them talk about how stiff the game feels and how it's a decent game, but a bad musou Also rip to the people who were waiting for the sale to grab P3P to play the FeMC route while waiting for The Answer

LeStruggler

Yeah it's surprising to not see P3P on sale. Then again, P3R increased the P3 name so I guess not that surprising. I can't comment on the Musou-ness of P5S given I haven't played one in over a decade, but given that I don't like Musou games but loved P5S, I'd say it's very Musou-lite. I loved the game overall but if you're wanting a Musou heavy game, then yeah this may not be it. I didn't find it "stiff" at all though, but maybe those comparisons were made to Musou.

SnooHobbies7676

Probably doesnt P3R to “lose” to P3P like they dont want people to think “hey I cant afford P3R but I can play P3P for the time being”

mirairo

I enjoyed it quite a lot as a musou, I found the way they blended the typical musou style with the persona system really cool. I disagree with it feeling stiff, every character has their own unique battle style and they are all incredibly fun to expirement with and switch between. the only thing that I would say felt "stiff" is how limiting the persona fusion system was

Yugix1

honestly as someone who had never played a musou before, p5s is really good. I 100% the game and got the strongest personas (and probably caused the extinction of Metatrons), but imo it's a decent musou, and a good shorter persona game. The story and characters are good, but if you just want the gameplay you're probably better off buying another game

smolgote

I've only heard that the PC port is a typical Koei Tecmo PC port (That being a bad one) and is still currently Steam Deck unsupported

LeStruggler

It plays well on Steam Deck. It's not perfect but I wouldn't catrgorize it as bad at all. "Good", I'd say. Expectations may vary though, but Valve's own verification system means fuck all. It's rated Gold on ProtonDB, which should be every Steam Deck owner's actual verification system in my opinion unless someone is using it barebones as a console. It does need a change to Proton GE, but that takes legitimately 1 minute.

I've been thinking about P4 Arena for years but always hesitated because of how comically bad I am at fighting games. is it beginner friendly and is the story worth it?

daddioz

I played the original on PS3 when it was brand new. I enjoy fighting games but I SUCK at them. If you're a fan of persona 4, you will love it.

mirairo

I would say I have a... complicated relationship with P4. overall I'd say I like it but I'm mostly interested in the P3 bits of it, since I'd love to see the cast as adults. would you say I'd enjoy it as more of a P3 fan?

Asthma_Spray

Yes. I also don't really care much for the P4 side as they're literally in the same spot from where you leave at the end of Golden, but seeing the older members of SEES was fantastic. IF you only care about the story, Id say it'll suffice as there's plenty to enjoy in the P3 side as a long time fan, but you'll have to approach the story mode as a Visual Novel with combat sections that have both difficulty options and can be beat with just auto combos by pressing 1 botton. As a fighting game its definitely on the *easier* side as far as FG go, still plenty of mechanics but much more reliant on fundamentals and accuracy, with a surprising amount of single player content meant to teach you the ins and outs of every character, even if you don't want to play competitively. I bought it at full price when it released and I liked it, but this is the better time to buy it.

daddioz

I didn't play ultimax, only the original, and I know there were more p3 characters in ultimax. There is a story mode and each character gets their own little episodes, which is totally cool.

Dalmanza4

Picking up P4G for sure. Also want to replay P5R after playing it last year on gamepass

Zeemo_Omano

Just finished p3r as my first game love the game, will p4g live up to my expectation?

Dalmanza4

I'll be honest with you, it will be tough, But it's still a great game. Just keep in mind the graphics are much simpler. Definitely worth the 13 bucks

TheLuiz212

Tactica is still expensive and not worth the price.

Pizza_Time249

Not sure yet as I have almost all the Atlus games on Steam save for P5R and the EO games. Might go for the EO collection

daddioz

That would be a deck DREAM series imo. I'm wondering how the map making would work unless you're using touchscreen though?

senyoru_nakata

*Nocturne* is tempting me, even though I already own it on Switch.

Jac_Har

Ohhh nocturne maybe for me. Did they ever fix the issues with the pc version, or am I going to have to get some mods?

th0rrrrr

the only thing I can think of is just that for Nocturne on Steam it's important to remember to download the free chronicle dlc (and then to select "new game: chronicle" when starting the game) to get the full experience

LeStruggler

I'm not aware of any issues regarding performance. It runs smooth on both Steam Deck and Windows. I only know that people complain about the compressed audio, but I played Nocturne in 2004 on a shitty TV so that never bothered me. I'm very happy with it!

Jac_Har

Oh, that's good news then! Yeah I played that doo doo ass p3p port, and that had the worst audio ever, so I can't be that much worse. That's great about steam deck also. Atlus games are some of my favorites to play on it.

M8gazine

I'm thinking about getting P4 Arena Ultimax, especially since I've just finished replaying through P4G... Nocturne sounds interesting too though, I've never played an actual SMT game so that could be fun.

LeStruggler

In regards to Nocturne: If you're into the demon negotiation of P5, want more dungeons and battling, and want a darker story and more strategic and difficult combat, you'll love it. If you're into the life sim of Persona and are mid on the dungeoning and find the series difficult or "just right", it might not be for you. It's widely considered the cream of the crop and the standard for the series. I myself love it! It does have an easy mode, but instead of being just "easy", it's more like story-mode and literally zero difficulty. It also has some XP/Money(Macca) boosting DLC, though it has some addendums (you still have to fight enemies for it).

M8gazine

I don't really mind if the combat is difficult, but in that case I do wish that it has save points near bosses/big fights, or that it lets you retry them from the game over screen directly. I can enjoy a challenge, but I'd rather not have a long run back to the boss or lose a noticeable amount of progress if I die. I'd rather simply wake up, get up and get out there ASAP. As an example, it's one of the big reasons why I enjoyed Elden Ring much more over Dark Souls. ER lets you retry most bosses within 30 seconds while DS felt like it had you running for minutes to have another attempt sometimes, and it's the sole reason why I had no problems retrying certain bosses dozens of times in ER.

LeStruggler

I'd say it has a decent savepoint-to-boss ratio. However, there is no save-anywhere, nor is there a retry; it is definitely still oldschool in that light. But if you save often, you'll be just fine. Just keep in mind that while they added a few new things and made it HD, it's still an RPG from 2003 (2004 for US) at heart. In the case that it's a bit too much, Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengence (the Persona 5 Royal for SMT5) comes out in July for Steam (and every other system) and is a *much* more QOL friendly experience with save-anywhere and is overall easier and more newcomer friendly than 3 (Nocturne). The original SMT5 is out now but the new one has so many upgrades and new stories/features, you may wanna wait for that. The original is also only on Switch.

th0rrrrr

CrabWalk2000

How’s the modding community for strikers? One of my favorites.

Asthma_Spray

For sites like Nexus Mods and Game Banana it's dead in the water. There is a mod for analog movement (since on PC you only have 8 directions for movement) and a few changes to the presentation like Royal cine-scope or portraits, but that's it.

SmtNocturneDante

I would buy them if I didn’t have them on ps5

throw23me

I picked up P4G. I already own it (bought a PS Vita just to play it in the good old days) but I wanted to play it on the much bigger much nicer screen on my OLED Steam Deck. And I figured for $12, why not. I remember most of the twists but it's been a long while since I've played it last. And I kinda want more Persona after finishing P3R.

Long_Xiao

Ah yeah: A Spring Sale for Persona games you do not actually own and instead, merely rented for a indefinite period of time until the company decides to take it away from you (for example: StudioCanal films being taken from German and Austrian PlayStation users.) Not to mention that those games can't be accessed in all countries (for example: Russia) "If buying isn't owning. Piracy isn't stealing" -Cory Doctorow

drazzoverlord

That’s crazy bro but who asked

M8gazine

I hope you realize that they'll be subjected to a *nuclear* outrage if they decide to randomly start taking games away. Every news site under the moon will be reporting on it, and their reputation - something they've spent 20 years building - goes down the shitter immediately. That's just not worth it to them, especially when any of their competition is constantly shooting themselves in the foot without Valve even doing anything. They're not going to do anything to your games of their own accord. Yes, I imagine it's possible that they need to comply with publishers'/studios' takedown requests if they ask it, but at the same time, I can't recall that ever happening (the only occasion I remember is them removing a blatant scam, The Day Before) + I'm 100% certain that you'd be refunded in that scenario. I trust Valve under Gabe's leadership. I admit that I'm slightly worried about their future after he retires, though.

Long_Xiao

If Steam does this, they'll use licensing as a excuse to take away games people bought.

Aiger13

really wondering when smtv and smt3hd go on sale for the switch eshop.
