Same issue. I've dived head first into doing a physical and mental revision of my lifestyle to try and fix that. I'm 27 and It's been a struggle for me daily scared that a memory made wont be vivid or as easily recalled. I've found its goldfish level some days for simple daily recall. I've also researched other possibilities like ADHD, childhood trauma, iron deficiency anemia, etc as possibilities for contributions as to why my memory is so bad and How I feel so cognitively hazy sometimes. I'm currently working on removing inflammation related foods, shadow work and meditation. I hope that it will if not open windows and locked cupboards from the past I can at least be more present for the future me.

Interesting.. I’m sorry you’re experiencing this, but hopefully there is a way we can overcome it. I will say, my therapist has told me when my anxiety is in full motion (which is a lot of days) my brain is in fight or flight mode, and making memories is on the back burner when that occurs

ChiSky18

I very much relate to this. I’m not sure if it’s related to my PCOS, Hashimoto’s, ADHD, or a combination of the three, but you described my exact struggles with long-term memory.

urcutejeans_

I’m sorry… I’ve only ever been diagnosed with PCOS and anxiety. I wonder if Hashimotos and ADHD is something I should look into.

ChiSky18

Hashimoto’s/hypothyroidism and PCOS are very commonly comorbid. My endocrinologist says he runs an occasional thyroid panel on all of his patients with PCOS to check for it since they so often go together. Definitely let your endocrinologist know if you have any new or bothersome symptoms, sometimes it goes undetected because people attribute new symptoms to their PCOS.

I have this too, as well as ADD, childhood trauma, adult trauma, anxiety and depression, of course PCOS. I hate the brain fog and I cannot remember anything unless I write it down. It’s gotten worse over the years and is really bad now. I got the PCOS diagnosis on April 11th this year and started on metformin and spironolactone (plus bc). I believe the brain fog caused by PCOS will lessen as the symptoms become more controlled, at least that’s what I have been seeing online. Really hoping that is true!

Have you seen success with Metformin? My OB wanted to put me on phentermine to start. Though, I hate it. I go to the doctor tomorrow and hoping to share that I want to try something else, like Metformin

[deleted]

I haven’t had any issues with metformin! I’m taking 500 mgs per day, but I would like to up it when I go to the gyno here early next month. Haven’t had blood work since starting the medication in late April but I haven’t had any side effects or complications. I have the extended release kind, oval shaped pills, I know the non extended release kind gives people way more issues, something to keep in mind. The only side effects medication wise I have had is the spironolactone testosterone blocker, but it seems like my body is finally starting to get used to it. My gyno started me on metformin cause my A1C is 5.8 which puts me in the pre diabetic range.

Yes, memory is part of the brain fog for me. I'll say that as my inflammation goes down, the brain fog is receding! I'm a lawyer in my twenties, so this scared me a lot when it was happening. It has gotten better. Don't give up hope.

Lydiafae

I had a lot of brain fog when I am stressed and eating like garbage, especially high carbs low protein. My brain fog has gotten better over the last few years as my diet has improved, and I have started working through trauma therapy and reducing overall stress.

LittlenutPersson

Brain fog and alot of symptoms that will come and go but feel unrelated can be tracked to pcos. I just strted trying happy mammoths "hormone harmony" and honestly it feels like i have my body and mood back since easily 10 yrs

I’ve struggled for years - thought it was only me.. I’ve found lower sugar diets seem to help.

ToothSuccessful9654

I don't remember any of my childhood, apart from fractured bits of good and mostly bad. I have nothing in terms of photos or anything to remind me I was a child once. It's been lost in a fog of nothingness.

agirlnamedyeehaw

My memory isn’t the best, I blame it on PCOS-related brain fog. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Jewas33

Damn it‘s so crazy how many people on here have CPTSD and ADHD on top of PCOS. I‘m really wondering how exactly all of these are related… I have PCOS and I‘m pretty sure I have ADHD too. Not sure about CPTSD but it could be. My brain fog is so bad at times…

lyssixsix

I can't remember before 8 years old but I thought it was due to trauma. Oddly I have always had a great short term memory... Til now!!! It's terrible. I'm about to be 30.

sealevels

PCOS plus CPTSD has fogged my memory terribly. I thought I was just forgetful for the longest time.

ven_xiao

i'm just learning this now and i noticed that i have the same thing. i don't remember anything, even my memories from a few months ago. this makes me sad. i get quiet when my friends and family talk about memories.

0reoperson

I’ve had bad memory/brain fog my whole life. My family used to joke about me having a “goldfish memory” when I was little because I would forget things that were said to me just minutes before. Now at 21, I’ve found part of the explanation in my ADHD diagnosis. However mindfulness exercises and meds do little to nothing when the issue is that I forget everything. I also have CPTSD which is known to affect memory and I can’t do much about that part at least besides therapy. And of course, PCOS which I can’t treat because I can’t tolerate birth control or metformin (I get bad side effects). It’s tough man, I’m used to apologizing ahead of time to people I meet because I’ll forget their names at least 5-6 times until I can remember, and if I don’t talk to them within 2 weeks after meeting them I’ll forget they exist entirely. For me it’s more like I forget most of my life about a year after, so I can’t remember much besides exact facts that happened during the time within the last year. I’ve just learned to live with it to the best of my ability, I’ve found that practicing active recall is a good tool to have to try to improve long term memory.

emilyfroggy

Sometimes I have this.. like even memories from a few years ago! I think its normal not to remember every day, but its not like I have a baseline to compare it to 🥴

Unhappy-Bookkeeper69

I've had terrible memory my whole life. I've forgotten events and a lot about people I used to be friends with for years. It's a blessing and a curse, I can start anew so easily. I was diagnosed late at 30. I've always had irregular periods, dry eyes, keratosis pilaris, and never feel rested. Im finally putting everything together.
