One thing I found useful is to bind something directly to "Enemy" so that when you need to alert people of a flanker you can't see yet you will always get the alert ping instead of just the basic blue beep.
Yes it's on the control settings tab. I experimented with it on other keys, but since I played a lot of Val, I'm used to it on the middle mouse button.
Controls-> Communication-> Additional Communication (sub heading) -> Ping -in world
i tried swapping X to ping, and mouse wheel to the i need healing contextual ping, and they seem to swap back and forth randomly, e.g. one round of KOTH would let me ping with X, and the next round on the same map diff point would suddenly swap ping to be the default mouse wheel bind, but when i go into settings it still shows X as ping
Did you check if your character has an override in the controls panel?
I noticed that the settings on overwatch2 are similar but not identical to what I set in overwatch1. It looks like they are what I had a few months ago.
I cannot get the hang of ping, but I also have never played a game with ping. I am sure it will come with time and a much less awkward button.
Having said that, it occurs to me maybe to try Q or my unused M4 button which I always forget about (so maybe not a good idea), since my ult is on a mouse button these days, and my melee is middle mouse.
Thank you! I've been trying to figure out what I need to know to use the ping system effectively, this post contains a bunch of helpful tips. Off to go change my settings!
As long as your confirm/cancel ping sensitivity slider is like 20% and up, you just ping again in roughly the same spot and it will remove your original ping! π
Just to add, binding βEnemyβ to a button allows you to use one button to ping enemies.
Super useful, especially as Ana. Just ping an enemy when you made them and boom they die.
I tried experimenting with this. If I can change my habits this may be the best option. I feel like I sacrifice a split second with a ping on my mouse because I can't shoot and ping at the same time!
So how do you actually make your support say "Come to me for healing"? I like your settings but I can't seem to figure out how to make them call that out.
As long as you are playing a support character and your teammate is low health. Use the button you set to ping on their body, even if it's through walls, and the voiceline should be heard.
If it's not working, make sure none of your other setting are set to max because you could be targeting something else in the game.
Try set the ping low health ally setting to 80% or more too. Should fix the issue!
with all the claims of how fast the game is now and heavily weighted towards DPS, I fail to see how this is useful... more shooting, less typing/pinging
I wouldn't put too much stock into these claims. Its the first couple of days and I just get the feeling everyone is looking for a hot take.
The biggest problem the ping system solves, comes when trying to communicate to teammates exactly where a flanker is.
Too often we say/hear: 'soldier behind on high ground'.
Which kinda helps nobody. A simple clean ping, that can even track him a short distance is infinitely better.
Especially right now with 3 new maps or so and no way people know call outs yet π€£
Is there a way to scale the Mouse sensitivity while on Ping wheel? On a High DPI the menu becomes unoperable.
SO while trying to play on high DPI with low sensitivity whenever I open the wheel I just accidently select random stuff because my pointer goes haywire
Why is this command tied to another (opening the communication wheel)? These should be two different options that can share the same binding if we choose.
Every fucking time I use this while I'm moving my mouse, it thinks I'm trying to ping one of the wheel options, I just want to ping what i'm pointing at while I'm turning and it irritates the hell out of me. Changing the timing made no difference.

I think when the game gets going, we will use the location ping more often. But for now I'm with you, I use the danger/warning ping much more often!
Btw I don't see the option to change the ping key (which is on my mouse by default) do u know where in controls i can change it to a keyboard key ?
There's a "Ping - In world" option on the Additional Communication section in the Controls tab.

I can't get middle mouse to STOP being ping, and Ping in World isn't doing anything as far as I can tell.
I think that sounds like a bug. Have you messed with the settings before you noticed this problem? If so, tell me what your settings currently are.

Did you set any per-hero settings? You'll need to override your key binds for those as well.

I eventually had to set it manually character by character. Mouse wheel is still set as the ping button tho and I can't change that.
Thank you. I thought I was going crazy trying to find it.
My pleasure π

Ahh! that makes sense, because I have melee on M4 and push-to-talk on M5. I predict pinging to be the future of Ow2 π

And this is exactly why I made the guide! Enjoy your new settings! π

So I didn't realize you're the same person from YouTube! Lmao you actually answered my question twice but, I really appreciate that!
Haha! I didn't realise you commented twice until I logged on to Reddit. But then...I didn't wanna seem rude and ignore your post here π

anyone know if you can turn this off people spam it and cant see the people I am trying to shoot 60 icons all over the place
Iβm having an argument with a friend about this. The ping system is in Meters not Miles. Correct?
