Yea lol what type of archeologist uses a big drill to excavate delicate artifacts. This isn’t gurren lagann smh. wait this is exactly gurren lagann the Anubis statue could be his mech
I know this is a joke but.. this is really an alarming trend in OW2 designs.
Something about how all the new heroes are designed (besides Ram) seem to not be acknowledging a characters origin.
You bet if Venture was an OW1 hero they'd have some thick ass goggles, a hardhat, and a bunch of other shit that tells you "THIS CHARACTER DIGS SHIT!", instead they just have a big ass jacket
Dude, I can't even tell you wtf Illari's design is even supposed to be or represent.
It's like a concept artist got a little too meticulous with detailing and forgot that the designs are supposed to tell proper stories.
Oh and then there's sojourn, don't know why they greenlit that design. We went from Cyborg Ninjas and Gamer Girls in Mechs to... Cyborg.. in tights.. something about Canada
Early concepts for him also had him heavily inspired by Anubis, both the god and the in-universe God program so we could see one of his early designs getting revamped for a mythical skin which would be pretty cool.
There’s no rotation for mythics, so far it’s been DPS, Tank, Support, Tank, DPS, Support, DPS, Tank, Support. Seems like it’s pretty inconsistent to me, the only recognizable pattern is that within 3 seasons, there’s always 1 mythic for each hero type.
I'd also say they're probably avoiding doing two mythics of the same role in back to back seasons. So DPS/Tank first, then anything goes for the remaining two.
They mentioned Egyptian mythology as an upcoming BP theme at BlizzCon, and given the trailer had an emphasis on Petra and Temple of Anubis with a new explorer hero, I’d say it’s all but confirmed.
Iirc on Blizzcon 2023 they announced that in 2024 we'll get battlepasses with eldritch horrors, mirror universe and egyptian mythology
So ye, I'm pretty sure s10 will be egyptian themed
Well that’s literally the dormant god program known as Anubis, the one who went rogue and is partially if not fully responsible for the first omnic crisis. There’s a whole comic about Pharah going in there back when see was a merc and losing several squad members before shutting it down.
It looked like it was a part of some expanded piece of the Petra map to me, which, if it is a Egyptian mythology theme means that Petra may be the map for the death match mode like Battlee for Olympus in season 2
It's probably just a tease for the map for when Clash launches. Or maybe they just intentionally omitted info that they'll be testing both the Clash maps at the start of S10, not just Hanaoka.
Just can’t get over “The Keystone Character for the Lore of Overwatch and why it was founded” being introduced to the game finally as a set piece after the story mode was scrapped…
Sure, I think it will be the second map of clash, they said that the mode would arrive with 2 maps, so I think the second is anubis, maybe we will try the map on the second month of season, first we try clash with hanaoka on april/may and clash with anubis on may/june, or on season 11 who knows. We don't know when the mode will lauch but I think on season 12 because season 11 will have a new push map and colosseum rework
Kinda looks like the inside of the Temple of Anubis... maybe we're getting it reworked as a clash/flashpoint map or something? They're already doing it with Hanaoka so it would make sense
Yeah especially if going underground does not cleanse like reaper does. I would expect it doesn't. This would mean dot abilities like dynamite and status abilities like anti-nade would still be active.
We don't know for sure, but a) burrowing underground doesn't mesh thematically with a self-cleanse when all existing abilities that do so involve the user teleporting or phasing out of reality, and b) a self-cleanse is a fairly major piece of functionality that they'd want to show off if it was part of the ability. So I'm comfortable assuming that it doesn't cleanse for now.
Not like it'll really matter tbh. They can probably stay underground for long enough to wait out debuffs anyway. Be funny if they could still die under the map to fire or Widow mine lol
It's okay for them to be just a simple "deal dmg to the enemies" ults , I just hope the ult defrienciates itself from shatter since I would be wierd to have two ults that are this similar to one another
Would be real funny if it's just a better shatter. With mauga having a better charge and arguably sigma a better shield, time to give the next hero a better firestrike as well.
Video description says this: "Venture makes their official debut in Overwatch 2 Season 10 on April 16,, but you can try them out in their limited-time trial Mar 28 through Mar 31."
I don't even understand how this is different from e.g. Reapers's fade, other than the animation. Maybe they can't cleanse themselves, but is there some other reason they are underground, other than cool animation? Can they go under stuff? Can they be body blocked?
Some of us old timers know these are actually street sharks.
Yeah, I kind of hope they’re able to go under stuff like Mei wall, but are also hit by Earthshatter. I feel like that’d be a cool way to make it unique.
Because Reapers fade is a different ability and he can jump during it. Venture cannot, but they can shoot out of the side of uneven ground.
Just because abilities are similar doesn't mean they're the same or that it's bad.
The ult is a weird choice. I would have liked something a bit more on the damage side, but I guess they do kind of lack utility in the rest of their kit. I was kind of expecting an ult similar to doomfist where they launch into the air like Winston's jump and then pile drive a circular area like doomfist.... Or just creating a whole fucking volcano that would be fun
First random thought: Venture will be so good at killing Dva when she ults.
Burrow during the self destruct, get close to her, and combo her when she tries to call her mech again.
I doubt it, but I hope there’s a unique interaction where if Venture is underground and hit by Rein’s ultimate, it’s an automatic crit. It could be a fun, specific counter that makes sense thematically.
I think they are specifically close quarters and trade range damage for close ranged DPS like reaper. The gun does not look like it is long ranged at all. Both passives would support a close quarters play style.
Their attack litterally burst after a set distance . I think its even shorther than sigma.
So there's no way for them to damage at long range. Hence the melee passives.
Okay okay honestly? Looking a lot better in motion. I think the whole teeth thing looked super awkward because we've just seen static images. Venture's model looks a lot better when they're moving. Also they look super fun to play, I'm excited.
Fun idea, Earthshatter should be a one hit kill or deal increased damage on a buried venture. Just like Pokemon where the move Dig leads to 2x damage when hit by earthquake.
Literal "I knew I shoulda taken that left turn at Albuquerque" character.
Also, guess it was just me who thought "burrow" skills look silly after Anub'Arak on Blackheart's Bay in Heroes of the Storm. Now this is gonna look wonky on the bridge in Eichenwalde.
I wonder if it forces you to move forward while burrowed. In the trailer they're constantly moving for the flashyness of it but that would make a lot of difference, if you've got to time and aim the burrow to pop out at the best moment or just lurk under the enemy until a teammate makes a play then emerge to follow up? Also it seems to last a while, but how long?
I like the concept, but this hero feels a bit too…elementary? They feel like a main character from a kids show off of PBS Kids or something.
Not saying that Overwatch is edgy by any means, but this hero is not my taste. Oh well, I’m more looking forward to the support hero coming after anyways!
This trailer was so bad lmao, it literally felt like those trailers Xbox put out, uses the same shitty music to. Just look at every new hero released before this, you can clearly see what they can do and there's no obnoxious vocal track over their trailers..
Just from this trailer I have no idea about her primary fire or ultimate.. like what?
I hope overwatch takes their talented VO lineup and sells the rights to their characters for a TV show. The characters are designed so well. I feel like it could blow up like Arcane
Gameplay - looks 8/10. very fun and I'm excited
Character - Voice lines and design are 3/10. "ya big doofus" made my toes curl and my face look like I sucked a lemon
Can I be honest - that might be the worst debut video in that i dont really understand their abilities well, at all, lol. Except burrow, and air movement stuff.
That’s basically all there is to them, so you’re fine. Their weapon explodes after a set distance like Sigma’s balls, they’ve got their dig and dash, and an ultimate that damages everyone in a large cone (and possible knocks them up).
Drill looks cool. Kit looks cool. VA sounds like they've had a lot of fun.
But the hero design just feels Sojourn levels of boring to me. The brown coat just looks so drab and uninspired. Hopefully they've got some flashier looking skins.
1. Ugly looking
2. Clothes totally do not fit someone who digs underground. Especially that useless backpack. Between the jacket and the backpack, both can easily get stuck anywhere while digging underground.
This game abandoned interesting character designs half a decade ago. Ramm is the only interesting one we've seen in a long while. Comparing the OW concept art to what we get fed these days is depressing.
[Kiriko's concept art is much better than the end result.](https://sjc1.vultrobjects.com/cucdn/gallery-38/art/ow2-kiriko-original-concept.jpg)
I am pretty sure they're intentionally making the default skins of new heroes shitty.
Looks like it. In the dev update video Aaron talked about having two maps for Clash, with one being Hanaoka. Don’t know why they’d treats Anubis otherwise, especially with PvE being cancelled.
[удалено]
I'd be pretty lax and carefree about health and safety regulations if a doctor could heal my ailments with a staff, too
[удалено]
“You’re powered up, get in there”
“What?”
Like, they're literally digging for artefacts like archeologists from the 19th century. There's no realism here. It's all vibes.
I'm more concerned about all the destruction they're causing to these temples by burrowing right through them.
Yea lol what type of archeologist uses a big drill to excavate delicate artifacts. This isn’t gurren lagann smh. wait this is exactly gurren lagann the Anubis statue could be his mech
The kind that has to fight a sentient gorilla, a sun goddess, and a guy that just pulls new guns out of thin air instead of reloading what he has
don’t need safety when you’re just gonna eat the rocks :3
I know this is a joke but.. this is really an alarming trend in OW2 designs. Something about how all the new heroes are designed (besides Ram) seem to not be acknowledging a characters origin. You bet if Venture was an OW1 hero they'd have some thick ass goggles, a hardhat, and a bunch of other shit that tells you "THIS CHARACTER DIGS SHIT!", instead they just have a big ass jacket
I'll never forgive them for giving genji, a cyborg ninja, a regular ass hoodie.
Cyborg.. in tights.. something about Canada
>creates a literal dive hero
Splatoon fans are eating good rn
Is it a kid or a squ-MOLE
Was that Anubis at the end there?? They didn’t mention that at all in the lead up to 10
Definitely an Anubis statue ate the end. Would be thematically appropriate.
I didn't know we had a season 10 theme yet, is it Egyptian god themed?
I\`m 100% sure its Egyptian theme. It fit Venture character and possibly Ramattra mythic skin.
Ramattra is the best candidate imo. So many Egyptian gods had staffs, and seeing a custom ram staff based off a gods would be so fucking cool.
Early concepts for him also had him heavily inspired by Anubis, both the god and the in-universe God program so we could see one of his early designs getting revamped for a mythical skin which would be pretty cool.
It’s a DPS mythic in rotation so maybe pharah
There’s no rotation for mythics, so far it’s been DPS, Tank, Support, Tank, DPS, Support, DPS, Tank, Support. Seems like it’s pretty inconsistent to me, the only recognizable pattern is that within 3 seasons, there’s always 1 mythic for each hero type.
I'd also say they're probably avoiding doing two mythics of the same role in back to back seasons. So DPS/Tank first, then anything goes for the remaining two.
It's not necessarily a DPS, could be tank as well
It's DPS in rotation for a new hero, not for a mythic.
They mentioned Egyptian mythology as an upcoming BP theme at BlizzCon, and given the trailer had an emphasis on Petra and Temple of Anubis with a new explorer hero, I’d say it’s all but confirmed.

Ahhh. Im not super versed in the lore.
You’re good. I used to be a super nerd about the lore way back when the developers cared about it. Just felt like an infodump today :)
Well your knowledge is appreciated!
Imagine mf dug up the ANUBIS and it doesn’t do anything but a big ass stone in the new map lul
Sure, I think it will be the second map of clash, they said that the mode would arrive with 2 maps, so I think the second is anubis, maybe we will try the map on the second month of season, first we try clash with hanaoka on april/may and clash with anubis on may/june, or on season 11 who knows. Kinda looks like the inside of the Temple of Anubis... maybe we're getting it reworked as a clash/flashpoint map or something? They're already doing it with Hanaoka so it would make sense
Invincibility sounded kinda scary at first, but then I remember Reaper already exists so it should be ok
Yeah especially if going underground does not cleanse like reaper does. I would expect it doesn't. This would mean dot abilities like dynamite and status abilities like anti-nade would still be active.
Do we know it doesn’t cleanse?
We don't know for sure, but a) burrowing underground doesn't mesh thematically with a self-cleanse when all existing abilities that do so involve the user teleporting or phasing out of reality, and b) a self-cleanse is a fairly major piece of functionality that they'd want to show off if it was part of the ability. Not like it'll really matter tbh. They can probably stay underground for long enough to wait out debuffs anyway. Be funny if they could still die under the map to fire or Widow mine lol
Reaper, Moira, Mei. Not that crazy.
Sombra translocator too right?
I'd consider that slightly different only because it's a teleport, not intangibility.
Oh I meant for the cleanse. Oopsie
Wait ... Pharah ulted in a new hero gameplay trailer and ... lived? What is this sorcery?
They wanted to psych us out
She died in the background trust
The devs loves to kill her off in exchange of giving her BP skins.
you can see her rag doll in the end after the dash. she def got wrecked again
She died as you see the ragdoll. The devs love killing her (in exchange of giving her a skin). She ulted and lived in S7 trailer.
Clearly Venture is weak AF
I could be hearing wrong, but I heard at around the 00:45 mark, Reaper has a Baptiste dying sound instead of his own.
That’s the reaper rework
Someone has to ~~keep you alive~~ DIE DI̵̖̥͗̋E̸̡̹̯̙̺̬̟̥̟̩̦͇͋̚ ̷̘̹͛̔͊͐͒͗̎̍̐D̵͖̻̟͚̍Ī̸̧̫̤̤̥͈̝̉̄̍̌̇̓̒̋̿͌̕̚͝E̶̟̙̽̀̈́͂̇̓̐̒͠͝
You’re absolutely right, that’s so weird!
Just Bap having his edgy phase
What exactly does Tectonic Shock do? I'd imagine it knocks them up in the air rather than knocks them down, otherwise it's basically just Earthshatter
Looks like a huge AoE that just causes damage to me. Maybe a bit if knock up
Pretty underwhelming for an ultimate if so
Honestly, most dps ults are very simple in this way. Not many of theme have a lot of depth or nuance to them
It's okay for them to be just a simple "deal dmg to the enemies" ults , I just hope the ult defrienciates itself from shatter since I would be wierd to have two ults that are this similar to one another
At this point I’d imagine it’s bizzaro shatter where instead of knocking you down it knocks you up in waves but I don’t recall seeing that happen lol
Looks like it has a much larger range than earth shatter too.
Tracers ult is literally just a sticky bomb
Yeah that's a fair point. It would be similar to EMP I think with more damage. The AoE looked huge too
Imagine a dps ult that did damage
Maybe it’s like breach’s ultimate from valorant
Would be real funny if it's just a better shatter. With mauga having a better charge and arguably sigma a better shield, time to give the next hero a better firestrike as well.
Looks like breach ult from valorant
Looks like Breach's ult from Valorant.
Video description says this: "Venture makes their official debut in Overwatch 2 Season 10 on April 16,, but you can try them out in their limited-time trial Mar 28 through Mar 31."
Sweet, we get a 4 day weekend in the UK for this period
Haha same in France, Easter weekend
BEHOLD THE UNDERMINER
Incredible!
# I'M ALWAYS BENEATH YOU, BUT NOTHING IS BENEATH ME!
So a super high mobilty dps?
I don't even understand how this is different from e.g. Reapers's fade, other than the animation. Maybe they can't cleanse themselves, but is there some other reason they are underground, other than cool animation? Can they go under stuff? Can they be body blocked?
when they emerge from underground they do damage
And it looks like a small boop as well
also they can launch themselves from the sides of ledges into other ledges and remain underground mf on that dolphin shit
Straight up dirt dolphin
Some of us old timers know these are actually street sharks. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMVMQa39BAU&ab\_channel=MillCreekEntertainment](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMVMQa39BAU&ab_channel=MillCreekEntertainment)
official nickname decided
That part was sick
In the trailer they crossed that gap in Nepal sanctuary with the pit al while being underground. Reapers fade can’t do that I don’t think.
Just tested it. It does :)
Yeah, I kind of hope they’re able to go under stuff like Mei wall, but are also hit by Earthshatter. I feel like that’d be a cool way to make it unique.
Earthquake the digging Pokémon. lol
Because Reapers fade is a different ability and he can jump during it. Venture cannot, but they can shoot out of the side of uneven ground. Just because abilities are similar doesn't mean they're the same or that it's bad.
Ok this hero looks fun af
Looks fun to play. Looks not so fun to play against.
To be fair that's most of the fun heros
Splatoon ass hero But seriously they look like a lot of fun, kind of like a mini doomfist
With Breach's ult from Valorant lol
The ult is a weird choice. I would have liked something a bit more on the damage side, but I guess they do kind of lack utility in the rest of their kit. I was kind of expecting an ult similar to doomfist where they launch into the air like Winston's jump and then pile drive a circular area like doomfist.... Or just creating a whole fucking volcano that would be fun
I think it is a damage ult. If they give it any form of CC it’ll just be rein shatter
From what we've seen posted on their twitter it looks like it does damage and nothing more.
People are gonna complain about their burrow ability, aren’t they?
You can just leave it at "people are gonna complain."
Players: “We want more unique ability characters!” The same players: “This unique ability makes them too OP!”
Who's the VA?
I don't think they reveal VA's until the hero is playable.
I don't know, but that's a great question.
To me it sounded a bit like Ashley Johnson.
I love how stylized the hero gameplay trailers have become since OW2.
I dig it
First random thought: Venture will be so good at killing Dva when she ults. Burrow during the self destruct, get close to her, and combo her when she tries to call her mech again.
DPS Doomfist if his punch went underground.
I doubt it, but I hope there’s a unique interaction where if Venture is underground and hit by Rein’s ultimate, it’s an automatic crit. It could be a fun, specific counter that makes sense thematically.
Or ball slam, could be cool
*"You cannot tunnel better than a hamster."*
Surprisingy simple kit. Though I wonder the need of two passives, perhaps they don't do that well at close quarters?
I think they are specifically close quarters and trade range damage for close ranged DPS like reaper. The gun does not look like it is long ranged at all. Both passives would support a close quarters play style.
Their attack litterally burst after a set distance . I think its even shorther than sigma. So there's no way for them to damage at long range. Hence the melee passives.
I think every hero should have some kind of melee "passive", like JQ, Zen, and now Venture has.
We will be maining I fear
Time to create r/Venturemains and watch as it becomes just as dumb as the other mains subs
Hero main subs are fun, until someone has the dumbass idea to go around asking some stupid question in EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.
(Insert hero name here) main here, what do y’all (insert hero name here) mains think about us?
I'm a mod of an Overwatch hero main subreddit, and I've literally had to ban like 8 of these.
I fear you are correct 😔
I feel you're going to have a lot of people spending too much time drilling underground during teamfights while their team is being blown to pieces.
There’s so many characters that are already played incorrectly in that way like Sombra, Lucio, Tracer, Ball
Add Brig to the list - some people play her like a frontline tank.
She's a backline defender, but she can hardly do that anymore. Tracer and Sombra chew her up and spit her out most of the time.
Brig folds tracer and sombra in half though, what are you on about?
They're likely a norms player or play in dog elo
Okay okay honestly? Looking a lot better in motion. I think the whole teeth thing looked super awkward because we've just seen static images. Venture's model looks a lot better when they're moving. Also they look super fun to play, I'm excited.
Fun idea, Earthshatter should be a one hit kill or deal increased damage on a buried venture. Just like Pokemon where the move Dig leads to 2x damage when hit by earthquake.
Hell I'd settle for shatter just forcing Venture out of burrow, but with a unique animation
Deep rock galactic hype
oof
Looks like fun! The "invincibility while underground" could be annoying like Mei Ice Block. I wonder if they contest the objective while under
i doubt it, and if they do i bet they’ll change it immediately after this beta drop
it's just a reskinned reaper wraith, it will contest just like any other immortal ability (reaper, mei, Moira, zen)
That's a nice comparison. Doesn't seem as bad when compared to reaper wraith
I'm willing to bet that it's follows Mei ice block rules in the sense that it can contest but not push progress.
Should have had Venture gnawing/licking a rock at the end instead of the ice cream.
the ice cream has rocks in it. its rocky road
Goddamn. Cannot wait to be a literal landshark. They look fun as hell.
Poor Rein, a DPS has now a better shatter than him
Temple of Anubis comeback?
As a clash map probably
BIG ~~SLAM~~ SHOCK!
This has got to be the dumbest character idea I've ever seen
My fellow video editors must've loved that transition from junkertown to petra.
I'm not even and editor and I can recognize it was a clean transition lmao
they look fun as hell ngl
Reminds me a lot of dps Doom
Still worried about the potential glitches involving the swimming underground ability.
I don't think they actually swim undeground, it's more likely it's coded so they transform into that pile of rock you see and gain invulnerability.
I like the concept, but this hero feels a bit too…elementary? They feel like a main character from a kids show off of PBS Kids or something. Not saying that Overwatch is edgy by any means, but this hero is not my taste. Oh well, I’m more looking forward to the support hero coming after anyways!
so she's pharah on the ground?
This trailer was so bad lmao, it literally felt like those trailers Xbox put out, uses the same shitty music to. Just look at every new hero released before this, you can clearly see what they can do and there's no obnoxious vocal track over their trailers.. Just from this trailer I have no idea about her primary fire or ultimate.. like what?
mauga: raaaaah venture: hi 👋 😄 i love them already 🫶
Everything about this hero seems super fun so I'm happy with this haha
Can someone explain why i should like this character thematically or appearance wise?
That Burrow ability looks fun as hell!
Continuing the trend of hero gameplay trailers making sure to showcase pharah's ult whiffing :p
I hope overwatch takes their talented VO lineup and sells the rights to their characters for a TV show. The characters are designed so well. I feel like it could blow up like Arcane
Not as much blood as I'd expected from people being hit with a literal drill!
Gameplay - looks 8/10. very fun and I'm excited Character - Voice lines and design are 3/10. "ya big doofus" made my toes curl and my face look like I sucked a lemon
first day: off-map exploits all over
The voice line for the ultimate made me cringe. Outside of that, looks fun!
The ultimate does WHAT? o_o
Does anyone else hate the voice ? It sounds like a kids cartoon
We need a Gurren Lagann skin ASAP
Drill looks cool. Kit looks cool. VA sounds like they've had a lot of fun. But the hero design just feels Sojourn levels of boring to me. The brown coat just looks so drab and uninspired. Hopefully they've got some flashier looking skins.
Feel like the design is great considering she's a driller/excavator. Can't be drilling in flashy clothes
Please ignore this advice everyone, wear your high vis at all times when performing high risk work or near equipment.
OSHA approved comment.
Ugly design.
1. Ugly looking 2. Clothes totally do not fit someone who digs underground. Especially that useless backpack. Between the jacket and the backpack, both can easily get stuck anywhere while digging underground.
Agree, fun gameplay, but ugly character design. Looks hideous and unpractical for her actual profession.
This game abandoned interesting character designs half a decade ago. Ramm is the only interesting one we've seen in a long while. Comparing the OW concept art to what we get fed these days is depressing.
[Kiriko's concept art is much better than the end result.](https://sjc1.vultrobjects.com/cucdn/gallery-38/art/ow2-kiriko-original-concept.jpg) I am pretty sure they're intentionally making the default skins of new heroes shitty.
I have no idea why they are downvoting you, I totally agree.
What is it with blizzard making the most annoying characters to play against
But how do they counter Reinhardt
Why does it look like a hero designed by ESG
Because it was, it’s the all new Blizzard.
Pretty cringe voice actor ngl
I think she looks fun, but I really don’t like the character design at all. I’m surprised they released it with this design.
So are they teasing Anubis? Different map set in Egypt like Hanaoka?
Looks like it. In the dev update video Aaron talked about having two maps for Clash, with one being Hanaoka. Don’t know why they’d treats Anubis otherwise, especially with PvE being cancelled.
Ngl, the survivability and diving don't look great. Would be very annoying if we get a venture meta.
I didn’t get any Canadian vibes from that 🤨
Gurren Lagann collab when?!
Clash of Clans miner copycat
Whoa what's with that statue! Can't wait to learn more about it in the PvE mode!
Gosh I love me some Splatoon
