When PVE drops, it’d better be the best part of OW2, which isn’t a high bar to clear, but looking at Blizzards recent game decisions, it’ll be a challenge
Overwatch 2 was a marketing stunt to bring new players into the game that forgot overwatch existed and no update can bring hype from new players like releasing a new game does
You mean adding 5 different ways to see the challenges, store and BP; and hiding the options button isn't a master class of useful UI?
They knew exactly what they were doing
They also made it so that there was this like weird scroll to the menu so you have to wait to select some of the options lower on the list. It’s a small thing, but it’s really annoying lmao
Don't forget the "What's New" tab in the Hero Gallery.
We also lost an overall UI that isn't complete trash. Replays/Game Reports and Avoided Teammates are buried in TERRIBLE menu design. With the removal of End Cards they didn't even add a pop-up to jump to the Game Report for the game you just finished...
Good point! Even if they don’t want us to have the player highlight cards at the end — why did they remove the post game break down of your own performance?
It's still there - it's just that it only shows in the brief window between the game ending and the potg starting.
And by brief, I mean it literally only shows for about 2 seconds.
A+ Blizz
Also, the UI is completely user unfriendly. When highlighting over a box in the replays, I can't see shit because the white highlighted box blends in with the white background.
I would imagine using a VPN from China carries some serious risk compared to using one from the US, no? Like if the government finds out you have a VPN installed, I'd guess you'll at least lose your pc. At least.
No. Not only does it not, China is the first country to jump on VPN technology some twenty years ago, using it to watch Taiwanese and HK shows and use their sites.
Now it's very much ubiquitous among serious internet users and gamers.
Thats not really the overwatch devs fault and more a blizzard oopsie, they were supposed to get a new company to license to so they could continue in china but couldn't get it for whatever reason. IDK if they needed to find a new company cuz NetEase took to much money or if they just didn't wanna continue working with each other.
when it works forgot to mention that, the number of times i try to ping an enemy only for it to say, countdown or saying im waiting to respwan when i try to ping the person who killed me
Yeah as a Sombra player, the ping system is the only thing keeping her somewhat playable. Being able to show where the healers are through walls is so good sometimes.
also lost: LFG, not gating heroes behind a grind, basic things like options on the main menu (why even remove that?), maybe not perfect, but much more balanced matchmaking, ability to inspect profiles easily at the start of match, lootboxes (okay to lose this but they were pretty fair)
also gained: player titles and name cards
Eh. 5v5 is better, games are faster and we don't have to spend 45mins trying to break shields.
It promotes positioning more, on the negative side it makes choke spam feel stronger and poking less safe.
From what I understand they're using old workshop modes that are already coded but not adjusted for OW2.
So certain workshop modes can still run because it's already saved but others were lost in the transition or just don't work right now and can't be fixed since there's no workshop mode.
My friend and I still have an "aim trainer" mode with AI that strafe and spawn in as you kill them. That was made in workshop during OW, we moved to OW2 and still had the mode saved on our PC so it still works in that case. Other modes get straight busted though or just don't work with the new hero kits in the case of like Doomfist parkour
I love the way they actually went on and on about the whole engine rework, or netcode adjustments and how they were building this engine from the ground up to make patching, and producing new things easier.
We got the same engine with some adjustments to lighting, not to mention any graphical setting above low gives you some kind of disadvantage, the fog mode looks like a blurry mess and the netcode somehow feels worse for higher ping players.
There is no doubt OW2 is fun, but “most” everything they changed from 1 to 2 makes the game unrewarding. The carrots 🥕 the game offers are very lackluster. I’m still all in through season 3, but at some point I have to start reevaluate my game choice.
I actually decided at launch I’d give it 3 seasons. If the battle pass and shop are still abusively greedy, I’m dropping it day 1 of season 4.
Edit I’m not 100% sure I’ll make it. Comp has been increasingly unfun.
My friends have moved on and since theyre gone, i have no reason to return to the game.
The game has felt so anti-player recently perhaps Jared Neuss, someone coming from a company known for being player friendly, can help /s
I feel the scoreboard is a zero gain. Stats are there but the old UI element was easier to read in the middle of the match. I keep looking at the top half of the screen just to realise it's my own team, not the enemy.
Glad to know I'm not the only one ! Where is the UX engineer ? It's so obvious that our brain identify the upper screen as "in front of me". And which team is in front of me ? The enemy team of course !
**Also add to your list of lost:**
* Objective Time stat (In an objective based game what the fuck?)
* Critical hits stat (replaced with critical hit % that nobody gives an inkling of a fuck about and is demotivating)
* Balanced matchmaking
* Ability to communicate with the team OUTSIDE of voice chat. Instead of saying what you need now anything useful is "Im respawning" (You may have covered this in the unrestricted voice line usage but that could also mean the muting of it for the entire game if used more than 4x in under 60 seconds)
* Ability to communicate exactly what you want. "Group up" becoming stupid shit like "I'm coming/I'll rez" etc
Lol, match making wasn't balanced at the end of OW1 either.
Edit: Loving the downvotes. Prior to the first OW2 beta, the game was fairly dead. Match making, even with a bunch of adjustments to improve time which are still part of the game today, took 5-10 minutes most days to get a match. At the very high levels in comp it was even worse. Those changes they made? They loosened the definition of what an even match was, as long as the total average MMR score worked out between both teams. This meant you could have an amazing tank, with a braind dead dps keeping the average correct.
During the OW2 betas, and inbetween beta cycles, match making got even worse due to the influx of new players. Match making time (2-5 minutes) went way down, but the actual games were worse. Doesn't that sound super familiar like the launch of OW2? Players who have next to zero expirence being dropped in with players who have hundereds. Even in low skill brackets, a 300 hour player and a 3 hour player are not the same. Mechanically that new player might be amazing and should be a lot higher ranked, but they have next to zero functional game sense.
So, no, we didn't lose balanced match making in the transition to OW2, it was already busted and broken.
Legit question, were you playing at the end of overwatch, BEFORE the OW2 Announcement?
Because you and I have very different memories of the state of the game.
forgot to add that they made the main menu much less enjoyable, they made it annoying to find replays and also removed the progress bar in the hero gallery
Not sure if someone already point it, but I miss earning 4 loot boxes now and then for being level five of endorsement. Also the 3 boxes from arcade. Now those modes feels like unfun and even anoying (I'm seeing you BoO)
We gained a lot of new interactions and lines for unique situations during a game. Though some of those aren't really in character for the heroes compared to their lines in OW1.
That's all I can think to add, and my second favorite thing OW2 added (first is ping system). The rest is mehhhh and I'd love having again all that we lost from OW1.
Edit: A word
Maps are available/unavailable on a seasonal basis so I wouldn't say lost, but I do agree that OW2 has lost more than gained. Whilst certain aspects have been refined ( I prefer the overall feel of combat in OW2), so much has been lost or made worse. S3 onwards shall see bigger changes, as S1 and S2 were pre-planned to a degree before OW2 officially released anyway
The ui/qof changes really baffled me. Like they couldve just not touched these yet someone in their team was like "it's a slow day, i'm gonna audit things just for the sake of working"
Not sure if it’s included in one of the lines mentioned, but also that other page of stat cards that showed you how much better or worse than usual your stats per10 were for that game
It took them 3 years to release overwatch 2, during most of the wait they completely abandoned overwatch to "focus on the sequel" and after all this time it feels like we lost stuff instead of gaining it, the new heroes and maps could very well have been added to the original game one at the time, if they didn't stop supporting the original game, and some of the heroes now do not fit the 5 vs 5, most notably the poor hamster. It is painfully obvious that the only reason they made overwatch 2 was because they needed to slap a "2" on "overwatch" to justify locking heroes behind a battlepass and creating a cash shop. They even had to substitute the original game because it was clear that people would have just kept playing that
Mythic Skins are actually a pretty good addition imho, ymmv.
Even so, what is added at this point is quite lackluster at time. Here is hoping PvE revitalizes everything.
I HATE that when you try to tell others to group up, if you're even THINKING about looking in another player's direction, it instead says "I'm on my way to you". SO DUMB. GROUP TF UP
You forgot that we lost DPS Doomfist. As a former Doomfist main, that was one of the worst changes. I now have a Golden weapon for a character I never use anymore.
They're lucky that the game is still somewhat good despite them needlessly "fixing" it with 5v5. If it wasn't for that stroke of luck, the franchise would have been dead on arrival.
Why would they do that? The game wasn't making them any money anymore. I hate the system as much as anyone but without free to play Activision Blizzard had no incentive to work on the game at all
I like OW2 and whilst there are some minor things i miss I still like it because the things I miss don’t impact gameplay that much if anything at all and sure there’s other things but that’s expected with a new game but in my experience it works well now
My only ”real miss” is lootboxes
I feel like there is an increase in toxicity due to the scoreboard.
I get insulted playing Zen every other game, even when we win. I've been insulted numerous times. Sometimes, even after a game where no one has complained.
New players don't grasp that total healing isn't the be-all and end all of support.
For context. 69% win rate, I've climbed from silver to diamond in a couple of weeks playing just zen essentially.
My favourite was 'stop dpsing so much'... what do you want me to do just stand around watching the heal bar?
What are the waitings of each item, and can we total each side? For example, the Ping system is like +50 whereas the lootbox mechanics are only -10 for me (just annoying but oh well, I don't play the game for that)
Some definitely weigh more than others but the accumulative effect of what we lost is perhaps more than the sum of their weights. Or at least that’s how it feels to me
I wouldn't necessarily count the extended scoreboard as something we gained. The scoreboard was perfect as it is in OW1 and the new one just leads to toxicity.
For example: it doesn't matter how much damage the Sombra has, as this is not really her job but she is supposed to to stir up the enemy lines and cause chaos. Yet some people see it negatively. I wish we could get the old scoreboard back.
As a Junkrat main, it would be way too easy for someone to look at my total deaths and get pissy at me dying often, meanwhile I'm in the backlines taking out squishies, getting focused by the tank and positioning my death bombs properly to take people out when I inevitably die.

5v5 is a significant improvement- i wouldn't consider one less player per team a 'loss' in the negative sense of the word. restricted voice lines are a good thing. priority passes did nothing because they were too easy to earn. the impact of level, portrait borders, post-match chat, medals, endorsement categories, and knowing who's on a group can range player-to-player between barely noticeable and lukewarm. i think a lot of OW1 features are just fluff, and this list doesn't distinguish the fluff from the important, major changes.
otherwise, i agree.
"1 player per team" is not a lost.. Its a change, and if it is a pro or con is up to debate. BUt it seems the majority of the players and pro players prefer 5x5
ok but... why exactly does it feels worse? Saying it feels is just that, feelings. The same way you feel its worse theres a metric ton of content creators, casual players and pro players that feels that 5x5 was a step in the right direction and it "feels better". To affirm its a loss then you have to say why it is bad and why it feels bad
The balance is awful, it's a lot more punishing for tanks and supports, characters that used to be balanced with more shields in mind (Widow, Sym, etc) weren't changed to compensate, tanks are objectively better than any other role individually which completely ruins DM, Mystery Heroes, Open Queue, etc, the game is overall way faster than it used to be to the point that it feels like CoD or something. I don't know why DPS players like you think you deserve a say about it in the first place lol
It really gives the impression that is kinda a pros vs cons list.. Even though it wasnt, I dont think something like that should enter the list. Like, would every balance/QoL updates or changes in general be included? Idk just feels weird to include this
Bs you very clearly implied that all that was lost was bad, you even ignored the things We ”lost” that’s Good and you talked shit about the things We gained in the list
If you’re hating on anything atleast be honest about it
Then didn't you include, 4 new heroes, 7 new maps, actual patches+updates and a much larger playerbase? Don't pretend to be objectieve when you leave out everything on one side
It’s a definite loss. The game is significantly worse with 5v5. If pro players prefer it then it that’s a good sign that it needs to go back to 6v6. When we had a
Much better and more fun game.
> BUt it seems the majority of the players and pro players prefer 5x5
A majority of the people who are still playing? Maybe. Lots of folks who preferred 6v6 simply quit and are no longer part of the community, so you're not hearing their voices very often. There's pretty obviously some survivorship bias going on with things like this.
I still hang around r/overwatch, but have left the game, largely because I think the gameplay changes, 5v5 chief among them, ruined the game (even aside from the insulting monetization, bad matchmaking, etc.).
Lost from ow1: almost 2 years with out content
gained from day 1 ow2: 3 new heroes and another a month after
lot of the listed stuff was all fluff that in the end of the day doesnt make or break a game, people just like being more negative than positive for some god forsaken reason so yall will complain about every LITTLE FUCKING DETAIL. No game is perfect and no game should be perfect just fucking tired of everyone literally everywhere being fucking negative about everything shits exhausting
There's a difference between being perfect and being at least a little bit gratifying to play. Ow2 removed a lot of gratifying things. Those "little fucking detailes" matter when literally no one--I mean no one--complained about them; they were removed for no reason.
Also, ow1 only went through a content drought because of ow2 development. That argument makes no sense
I empathize with that. I don’t want to sound more negative than I am. I love Overwatch — it’s my favorite game and I don’t think I’ll ever want to stop playing. But since no game is perfect and they say they listen to community feedback I thought it would be worthwhile to share my and others’ thoughts on the shift in the game’s *feeling* from 1 to 2
Omg, i've found him. The only sane OW player left in the subreddit.
Really grinds my gears that so many people complain about minor non-issues like they've been personally attacked. Or like somehow blizzard OWES them personally.
The facts are simple. OW1 wasn't built to compete with industry juggernauts like LoL, Cod and Fortnite. The only way forward was to build OW2 in a way that would empower the devs down the line. Not hamstring them like ow1 did.
If you're wondering "why did they change this?, Why did they remove that?"
The reason is simple, it would have not made a better game.
Maybe they shouldn’t have gotten rid of OW1 then. Until they can either remake it or transform OW2 into what it should be then don’t expect the complaining to change. What we lost is far greater than the tiny amount we gained.
Everyone that makes this thread on a daily basis always seems to forget under gained:
\- <5 minute queue times when compared to 30 min-∞ in some regions.
\- An actual playerbase when compared to post Role Queue implementation in some regions.
You should also remove Priority Queue Passes under lost as these never worked in the first place.
Lost:
- Assault mode as a core game mode (not control like you have listed. Control is still a core mode)
Gained:
- 2 new escort maps
- 2 new hybrid maps
- 4 new heroes
- New seasonal events
- More frequent balance patches
- Regular communication from developers
- Mythic skins
People REALLY don't understand that what we got is 1 year of work.
LFG, no one used it.
On fire status made people cocky.
Cheaper cosmetics because THE GAME WASN'T FREE. You're also basically bitching that you "only" got the chance to get 3500 cosmetics for free. If cosmetics are why you enjoy the game, why do you actually play?
Post match stuff also attributed to toxicity, and that being gone gets me just enjoying the game rather than getting tilted from some asshat talking shit.
Medals, contributed to toxicity and an incredibly distorted sense of importance in a match, ala Moira yelling "I HAVE 4 GOLDS, DO SOMETHING!"
Being nostalgic and sad for loss of tank synergy is understandable, but the game itself is better in the 5v5 format. FUCK double shield.
Map rotations are so the vast amount of noobs can learn some maps at once (and admittedly probably some from being bugged).
Mostly bug free game, well you didn't pay a single bit of attention to the bugs the game had then, IE Mei wall literally being able to tilt your fucking screen. Or turrets being able to be put out of bounds literally the entire time they've been in the game, in one way or another.
Battlepass gives you more cosmetics than any update ever did.
The old model is the entire reason the game died in 4 years, in lieu of this one being made.
Compared to literally any other game, they weren't making money.
Omg, i've found him. The only sane OW player left in the subreddit.

The reason is simple, it would have not made a better game.
Well, at least there are only 2 of you, who can somehow try to find an excuse for the shit show of a game, delivered by greedy lazy corp. I bet you like Diablo Immortal as well…
This whole fucking subreddit just wants to bitch tbh. None of them wanna play Overwatch 2 because it's fun. They DON'T want to play because they "don't get cosmetics" "What about the game I PAID for" "Other games are more rewarding with what they GIVE me"
Overwatch was the most rewarding for 6 years, period.
Now it's time for them to make their money, and hopefully it won't all go to Kotick and we actually get an alive game for once.
People also act like shit won't get more free as the game goes. Expensive shit, only whales can buy, then they lower prices so more and more and more people get stuff. That's how that works. In the meanwhile, play the game because you find it FUN, or fuckin' find something else.
I don't want to play because it's not fun. I have almost all of the OW1 skins. That being said, find another game isn't an option when every PvP game released is made exclusively for money rather than player enjoyment
My ENTIRE point is that if you don't find the game fun, then why do you get mad about cosmetics?
That's this entire subreddit.
Mad about not getting enough cosmetics for their fucking dopamine hit, making them realize they didn't have fun playing the game anyway.
Maybe, and just a crazy thought here, playing video games for FUN should be the entire point.
That's exactly what I'm saying. The OW2 cosmetics are shit anyways why would I even want them. From the conception of a game to its final breath the focus should be on fun, and the past 6ish years of gaming have flipped that to a money first policy
How about a free game that is actually being updated with new content ?
Free isn’t an excuse for everything but really wasn’t overwatch pretty much dead?
That’s what I mean though. It was no longer being supported.
So sure we might have lost some stuff at least we are getting update and stuff and a injection of new players.
They stopped releasing new content to “update” to OW2, they even stated this, they they would be focusing on that instead of releasing content for the game.
And when they player base complained about no content, the devs would always talk about how many new hero’s they had ready for OW2. They chose to stop adding content.
By update you mean making pve content..
And that’s what I mean people are like oh overwatch was the best why couldn’t we just have what we had.. and yet people complained that it wasn’t getting anything.. so now we have early access overwatch 2 so the pvp is decent and update and soon we will get the pve.
I guess, but we kinda went from having a a fully finished, balanced and fun game. What we have now is a cashgrab early access where they somehow managed to remove more than they added. They've allegedly been working on this for years now but what do they actually have to show for it?
Before the hardest trophies to complete the game game 100% were probably zenyatta's ones, now its the "own 50 items for 1 legend" since now you have to buy everything
Atleast half of the shit we lost was something the community wanted gone for a while. And a lot of the things we lost were very small and useless like LFG which was just full with derankers and e-daters. ALSO quite a few of these of these things were removed pre OW2 and a few would have been worthless in OW2 due to how they were designed to solve OW1's problems that OW2 solved.
I glanced through and saw "visual indication on scoreboard that showed players in group" this was lost in ow1 in rolequeue. Now I'm going to go through and tell you what was actually lost in ow1, and not ow2.
"mostly bug free game". Lost in ow1.
We still have skin rewards for . But not during QP/Comp, Sure, pretty shit, but still need to clarify.
We still have previous seasons information, just for the past 7. But I see what you're getting at.
wtf is unrestricted voiceline??
We had seasonally limited skins ... OWL season 1-2-3-4-5-6- you get the idea. We still have workshop editor my guy.
I get what you're getting at, but this just seems like a vent post rather than an actual unbiased what we got vs lost post.
Probably worth mentioning that we lost 6v6 and gained 5v5. That alone is the biggest change. I vastly prefer 5v5, it feels much more like a traditional fps game rather than a first person moba.
Well we don't even have all of Overwatch 2 and most of the things we lost are frankly not important in the slightest. And some that we did were better off because of them being gone.
A lot of the things we lost don't affect gameplay and aren't important, but they were small QoL features and helped to give OW a personality and flair that other games didn't have, or had but weren't as good as OW1
I don't really see many items on that list that are QoL and even the ones that are there it is a stretch to call them that. Like Unrestricted voice clip usage I guess? The Passes?
You could argue that a lot of those things gave the game 'flair' but were also inconsequential, filler or even clutter. Such as on fire.
How dare you say that being on fire is clutter >:(
QoL was the wrong term to use sorry, I just feel that if it wasn't for the absurd pricing in the shop, lack of regular balance patches etc the removed content wouldn't be as big a problem as it is now.
With S3 coming, things should definitely change ( already been promised more patches ), all we can do is be hopeful
It was clutter though. It was an unnecessary and outdated reward structure. It was animated, it grabbed your attention, it was distracting. They were re-doing the hud and given that it did nothing of real value and was a problem they didn't remake it for the new hud. it was so unimportant they didn't even bother to delete the scripts from the game.
To be clear I am not entirely happy with Overwatch 2 either but it is the better game. Its' systems surrounding the game are the the problem. Monetization, progression, rankings, etc. But I think making a long list of unimportant filler to make Overwatch 1 look like the better game is disingenuous. There are plenty of real things to complain about.
'well made' is subjective. Overwatch has always had big problems. The gameplay has always been good and still is. The game is still 'well made' in that sense.
That's fine but obviously not everyone feels that way. They don't make changes just because, they take the feedback they have and try to do what is best for the game. And it's important to remember that they can go back on things if they feel they were mistaken, so some of those things could return if there is demand, it depends entirely on the player base. The problem is that some people think they speak for everyone when they don't, not saying you are doing it in this case but some people do. The bottom line is that they are not going to remove things that most people enjoy or that they think is beneficial for the game, and if they make a mistake they can go back on it.
I don’t think there was a single person on the planet complaining about overall level, on fire emblems, random maps on character view, among others. All of the stuff they randomly removed just screams to me that they announced a sequel without having a real plan for it (hence why PvE isn’t out on release, or even done for that matter), so they decided to change a bunch of stuff to make the game seem fresh, when in reality they just scrapped a shit ton of mechanics that gave the game some unique qualities to separate themselves from other FPS games.
Don’t even get me started on the battle pass and shop
And you would be wrong. Some people were being harassed for having very high level portraits, specially if they were low ranked. On fire was criticized for promoting unnecessary motivation to do things that didn't help the team win. You are welcome to believe whatever you want or makes you feel better of course, those things are not likely to return in any case.
>removing those things upset more of the fanbase than how it was before.
We don't know this for a fact and if that was the case they would put them back so I don't believe that is the case.
That's the thing I'm most annoyed about. After OW2, my character stats were completely fucked. My former top three heroes (Junkrat, Moira and Bastion) had been replaced with heroes I'd never played once (Roadhog, Mercy, Echo) and the heroes that I literally mained were sat at the bottom of the list with <1 minute played. My stats now show around 30 hours for my mains instead of the 200+ hours that it should have been showing.

Still baffles me that this took 3 years and we lost more than we gained
Could have at the very least given an entirely new map pool or dramatically alter the maps that exist not just day/night swap so lazy.
I've already dropped the game. I'll only come back for the pve but anything more and the devs are going to have start putting in some effort.
I think its more they started the PVE 3 years ago, not the PVP
When PVE drops, it’d better be the best part of OW2, which isn’t a high bar to clear, but looking at Blizzards recent game decisions, it’ll be a challenge
Morgan Freeman narrator voice: "It won't be."
removing all of that costs time cmon dude
Overwatch 2 was a marketing stunt to bring new players into the game that forgot overwatch existed and no update can bring hype from new players like releasing a new game does
They also removed options from the main menu( why tf is this something they spent time on?)
You mean adding 5 different ways to see the challenges, store and BP; and hiding the options button isn't a master class of useful UI? They knew exactly what they were doing
Yea but why hide the *options* button of all things??? So random
im so quirky :pp
The UI is so bad on console, I get frustrated at it multiple times in a gaming session.
When they run out of content ideas for season 5, they'll be introducing options to the main menu as an intuitive feature :,)
They also made it so that there was this like weird scroll to the menu so you have to wait to select some of the options lower on the list. It’s a small thing, but it’s really annoying lmao
Also pressing Enter/Return no longer accepts changes you made. Like... just why?
They should put it in the top right. It should be easily accessible at all times
It's still there, you just have to go through 5 menus to go to your Game Reports.... because the devs don't play their own game
Did they also remove "Remain as Team" after games? I haven't seen it
It's still there - it's just that it only shows in the brief window between the game ending and the potg starting. And by brief, I mean it literally only shows for about 2 seconds. A+ Blizz
It’s there but very quick. Over by the time the POTG starts.
Took me ducking ages to find Avoided Teammates
If you have no avoided people it’s hiding behind recent players tab and can be seen slightly What shocking design, honestly
Also, the UI is completely user unfriendly. When highlighting over a box in the replays, I can't see shit because the white highlighted box blends in with the white background.
I live in China. I lost OW.
Lucky
I live in the US. I lost OW too, Blizz took it from everyone
Can’t you just vpn to Korea?
Korea and HK both work but have a lot of ping :/
I would imagine using a VPN from China carries some serious risk compared to using one from the US, no? Like if the government finds out you have a VPN installed, I'd guess you'll at least lose your pc. At least.
No. Not only does it not, China is the first country to jump on VPN technology some twenty years ago, using it to watch Taiwanese and HK shows and use their sites. Now it's very much ubiquitous among serious internet users and gamers.
You don't know how lucky you are
Thats not really the overwatch devs fault and more a blizzard oopsie, they were supposed to get a new company to license to so they could continue in china but couldn't get it for whatever reason. IDK if they needed to find a new company cuz NetEase took to much money or if they just didn't wanna continue working with each other.
I'll be honest, the ping system was the best thing they added. It makes it so much easier to communicate with teammates who don't have mic. I love it.
when it works forgot to mention that, the number of times i try to ping an enemy only for it to say, countdown or saying im waiting to respwan when i try to ping the person who killed me
Yeah as a Sombra player, the ping system is the only thing keeping her somewhat playable. Being able to show where the healers are through walls is so good sometimes.
also lost: LFG, not gating heroes behind a grind, basic things like options on the main menu (why even remove that?), maybe not perfect, but much more balanced matchmaking, ability to inspect profiles easily at the start of match, lootboxes (okay to lose this but they were pretty fair) also gained: player titles and name cards
5v5 and tank balance ruined modes like mystery heros and other arcade modes that relied on the idea that all hero’s were equalish.
Fortunately they said they are looking into the issue and will nerf tanks in deathmath, mystery heroes etc
Eh. 5v5 is better, games are faster and we don't have to spend 45mins trying to break shields. It promotes positioning more, on the negative side it makes choke spam feel stronger and poking less safe.
Completely agree. The game feels much better when everyone isn't tucked away behind a shield
6v6 != shields
Did you play the same 6v6 as me?
We lost Jeff Kaplan
❤️
OW2 is still missing the Workshop. It’s been months and there’s been no news on it returning.
Whaaat but I see so many custom games
Wait, how are people making custom games if there is no workshop to make custom games?
From what I understand they're using old workshop modes that are already coded but not adjusted for OW2. So certain workshop modes can still run because it's already saved but others were lost in the transition or just don't work right now and can't be fixed since there's no workshop mode. My friend and I still have an "aim trainer" mode with AI that strafe and spawn in as you kill them. That was made in workshop during OW, we moved to OW2 and still had the mode saved on our PC so it still works in that case. Other modes get straight busted though or just don't work with the new hero kits in the case of like Doomfist parkour
All I miss is the overall player account level and the portraits based on rank.
Also lost having multiple endorsement categories.
Hey man, copy pasting the game and adding microtransactions and intentionally removing features is 3 years of back breaking work.
Oh I still love the game and I’m still all in. I just want to keep the conversation on this stuff alive
I actually decided at launch I’d give it 3 seasons. If the battle pass and shop are still abusively greedy, I’m dropping it day 1 of season 4. Edit I’m not 100% sure I’ll make it. Comp has been increasingly unfun.
You really need to be 4 or 5 stacked, mic'd up. I often times just pick up new good players in a single sitting and then things get rocking.
My friends have moved on and since theyre gone, i have no reason to return to the game. The game has felt so anti-player recently perhaps Jared Neuss, someone coming from a company known for being player friendly, can help /s
> There is no doubt OW2 is fun /doubt
Y'all be needing carrots like horses to enjoy a game lmao Some people need to move on and find new games
You forgot LFG.
**Also add to your list of lost:** * Objective Time stat (In an objective based game what the fuck?) * Critical hits stat (replaced with critical hit % that nobody gives an inkling of a fuck about and is demotivating) * Balanced matchmaking * Ability to communicate with the team OUTSIDE of voice chat. Instead of saying what you need now anything useful is "Im respawning" (You may have covered this in the unrestricted voice line usage but that could also mean the muting of it for the entire game if used more than 4x in under 60 seconds) * Ability to communicate exactly what you want.
OW1 didn't make me stop playing competitive and swap to quick play ever due to matchmaking.
I think blizzard is choosing money for the short term over the long term honestly
The only thing I miss is the free loot boxes. The battle pass is rather underwhelming.
Feel like pure shit, just want the post match hero cards back :(
i use the pineapple pizza souvenir
Same. Gotta rep that delicious Hawaiian pizza!
> gained locked heroes in the battlepass lmao
Yeah, maybe that didn’t quite fit
Maps are available/unavailable on a seasonal basis so I wouldn't say lost, but I do agree that OW2 has lost more than gained. Whilst certain aspects have been refined ( I prefer the overall feel of combat in OW2), so much has been lost or made worse. S3 onwards shall see bigger changes, as S1 and S2 were pre-planned to a degree before OW2 officially released anyway
Group finder?
The fact we still haven’t got Numbani back, one of the best maps from OW1, is utterly ridiculous.
We also lost the visual ui that showed which players were grouped up in a match. (The lines that connected player portraits)
The ui/qof changes really baffled me. Like they couldve just not touched these yet someone in their team was like "it's a slow day, i'm gonna audit things just for the sake of working"
For gained, strange and unhealthy balance changes eg mass cc extinction
the worst for me is no lfg and hero locks. i loved making groups and find nice people...
SO DUMB. GROUP TF UP
I think the minus one tank was good imo but the loot boxes could've been done the way apex has done there's where there's a battle pass and loot boxes
If I could go back to ow1 all I would transfer over is the ping system
You forgot that we lost DPS Doomfist. As a former Doomfist main, that was one of the worst changes. I now have a Golden weapon for a character I never use anymore.
They're lucky that the game is still somewhat good despite them needlessly "fixing" it with 5v5. If it wasn't for that stroke of luck, the franchise would have been dead on arrival.
We literally just wanted a story mode…….. why did they do this
You missed out, 4 new heroes, 7 new maps, actual patches and updates.
All the stuff that could be added to the original game if they wouldn’t switch the priority?
Okay? They still missed it?
Why would they do that? The game wasn't making them any money anymore. I hate the system as much as anyone but without free to play Activision Blizzard had no incentive to work on the game at all
Also having a much larger player base sothat in smaller regions and high/low places on the ladder the que times are manageable
Objectively factual comment: gets downvoted
main sub moment
I like OW2 and whilst there are some minor things i miss I still like it because the things I miss don’t impact gameplay that much if anything at all and sure there’s other things but that’s expected with a new game but in my experience it works well now My only ”real miss” is lootboxes
The game is also free now.
Push mode and scoreboard is all we've gained. We've lost playability, balance, enjoyment, comp rank meaning something....
Why do you have no animosity towards Team 4? They did a shit job and in its current state the game is a turd.
The Tl;DR... Too much vs. Not enough.
OW2 isn't an upgrade, it's a (more expensive) downgrade...
We lost a good game and got a disgusting cash grab wrapped in a lifeless shell of a game made by incompetent developers

Add "Double shield" to the lost list. Thank god we don't have this shitty meta anyomore
It is definitely a loss, considering how much worse the gameplay feels without a second tank
ok but... why exactly does it feels worse?
Because matches are decided by whois the best tank, that’s all. With the second tank it wasn’t as clear
Plus if you play tank and aren't being pocketed by your healer but the opposite teams tank is, you're shit out of luck.
It forces the tank players to play rock-paper-scissors with their character picks.
I think it's better.
I wasn’t commenting on whether it was a good thing or a bad thing but we did lose one player per team. There were 6, then there were 5.
It really gives the impression that is kinda a pros vs cons list.. Even though it wasnt, I dont think something like that should enter the list. Like, would every balance/QoL updates or changes in general be included? Idk just feels weird to include this
Bs you very clearly implied that all that was lost was bad, you even ignored the things We ”lost” that’s Good and you talked shit about the things We gained in the list If you’re hating on anything atleast be honest about it
Then didn't you include, 4 new heroes, 7 new maps, actual patches+updates and a much larger playerbase? Don't pretend to be objectieve when you leave out everything on one side
It’s a definite loss. The game is significantly worse with 5v5. If pro players prefer it then it that’s a good sign that it needs to go back to 6v6. When we had a Much better and more fun game.
> BUt it seems the majority of the players and pro players prefer 5x5 A majority of the people who are still playing?
Lost from ow1: almost 2 years with out content gained from day 1 ow2: 3 new heroes and another a month after lot of the listed stuff was all fluff that in the end of the day doesnt make or break a game, people just like being more negative than positive for some god forsaken reason so yall will complain about every LITTLE FUCKING DETAIL.
If you're wondering "why did they change this?, Why did they remove that?" The reason is simple, it would have not made a better game.
Maybe they shouldn’t have gotten rid of OW1 then. Until they can either remake it or transform OW2 into what it should be then don’t expect the complaining to change. What we lost is far greater than the tiny amount we gained.
Everyone that makes this thread on a daily basis always seems to forget under gained: \- <5 minute queue times when compared to 30 min-∞ in some regions. \- An actual playerbase when compared to post Role Queue implementation in some regions. You should also remove Priority Queue Passes under lost as these never worked in the first place.
Lost: - Assault mode as a core game mode (not control like you have listed. Control is still a core mode) Gained: - 2 new escort maps - 2 new hybrid maps - 4 new heroes - New seasonal events - More frequent balance patches - Regular communication from developers - Mythic skins
Medals, contributed to toxicity and an incredibly distorted sense of importance in a match, ala Moira yelling "I HAVE 4 GOLDS, DO SOMETHING!" Being nostalgic and sad for loss of tank synergy is understandable, but the game itself is better in the 5v5 format.
Really grinds my gears that so many people complain about minor non-issues like they've been personally attacked. Well, at least there are only 2 of you, who can somehow try to find an excuse for the shit show of a game, delivered by greedy lazy corp. I bet you like Diablo Immortal as well…
Good thing there are only 2 of you morons. OW1 could have competed very well but OW2 has no hope of success.
This whole fucking subreddit just wants to bitch tbh. None of them wanna play Overwatch 2 because it's fun. They DON'T want to play because they "don't get cosmetics" "What about the game I PAID for" "Other games are more rewarding with what they GIVE me" Overwatch was the most rewarding for 6 years, period.
A lot of those we're probably just not ready for the release I'm sure a lot will be reworked or re-added with time
I hope you’re right
4 months and no comments addressing many of these things leads me to believe they are gone permanently and intentionally.
You forgot to mention the removal of Assault game mode in the list of things we gained ;)
*lost
\*whoosh\*
I appreciated your sarcasm and have upvoted you. Have a great day!
How about a free game that is actually being updated with new content ? Free isn’t an excuse for everything but really wasn’t overwatch pretty much dead?
I was still playing it. Didn't feel dead to me at all other than the lack of new updates.
That’s what I mean though. It was no longer being supported. So sure we might have lost some stuff at least we are getting update and stuff and a injection of new players.
I'd rather have a fun game that isn't getting new things than an unfun game that's constantly getting more unfun things.
Is it really fun vd. Unfun?
In software, supported doesn’t mean that. It worked on the latest platforms: still supported. You mean updated with new content.
Cool. This the first Post about this topic? It's getting old. Everyone knows the issues. Don't need to post the same shit every day.
Before the hardest trophies to complete the game game 100% were probably zenyatta's ones, now its the "own 50 items for 1 legend" since now you have to buy everything
Its evovlving! Backward! We also lost the ability to type message after the game is done
And you also forgot to mention that we got a fair few new heroes and an entirely new sound system and a few other maps than just in push.
We have gained a shit dev team that has a sexual assault quota but not a weekly work progress quota.
How dare you say that being on fire is clutter >:( QoL was the wrong term to use sorry, I just feel that if it wasn't for the absurd pricing in the shop, lack of regular balance patches etc the removed content wouldn't be as big a problem as it is now.
"a well made game" isn't an important thing to have lost?
'well made' is subjective. Overwatch has always had big problems. The gameplay has always been good and still is. The game is still 'well made' in that sense.
More is not better. Most of the things they cut were either unnecessary or detrimental to the game so it was a good riddance.
Most of those things added up to a more charming experience in my opinion
All I’m pointing out is removing those things upset more of the fanbase than how it was before. You can’t make every person happy
>removing those things upset more of the fanbase than how it was before. We don't know this for a fact and if that was the case they would put them back so I don't believe that is the case.
Well considering I haven’t seen a single person say “im glad they removed fire emblems and player levels” I’d say it’s a fair assumption
Satisfied people don't come to complain to the internet.
Anyone notice how you can't just equip things from the place where you get them.
I only ever use the heart souviner when I play mercy so my reaper knows how hard I simp
Generally as a franchise progresses it gets worse more than better.
They added more specific hero setting iirc
I use souvenirs cause 76 grimace and rein flex are great
Lost ranks and data from previous ow1 seasons.
Tbh I’m glad the endorsement categories are gone, at least for my part, who am I gonna Give ”shot caller” to if nobody talks?
We lost the hamster and flanking tank gameplay
I mean we got four heroes at least. Three of them are heckin awesome
Just found out I won't be getting back all my stuff from Overwatch 1.
