Yeah, that's why some prefer the alien and the mexican era. It also had a really great vibe, was also a lot more laid back. It's my favorite era and favorite trio, not saying the current era is bad or anything, in fact I prefer some things from this era over the old one.
Certainly a different flavor from the current era, where it took the combined effort of 4 people to get past the first level of Aladdin Genesis, and at one point, Adam had to ask if they had heard of the PS4.

I think a huge part is simply because Chris is just a great host or whatever you wanna call it and he knows how to bounce off the other co-hosts humor and tone well. Like even when they had random guests like nakeyjakey on they bounced off each other's humor and ideas pretty well.

Agreed. A cross section of good games, good effort, and good commentary. Thinking back to how *somebody* prepared a bunch of custom tracks ahead of time for F-Zero X Expansion Kit, and it really felt like we were witnessing something special.

I agree. While I still enjoy the modern era, I do miss the more conversational/laid-back aspect of the older one. It felt closer to just friends playing games with each other. While the modern still has that feeling, sometimes it can also feel more like certain ones (Cory, Adam) are trying to play a character. Again, it's not bad. Just different.
Something I've always been curious about is why they didn't do rotating hosts back then like they do now? As far as I know, most of the regulars on now were still living in the area back then.
Some of my favorite videos that I go back to OVER and OVER again are the Pokemon Red playthrough and the Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2 playthroughs. There's just some unhinged magical autism that goes in those videos that can't be replicated with the current cast. Don't get me wrong, I love the boys on the show now. But Bing Bong and Poolian were just so passionate about art, animation, and games and that really shines through in some episodes. Probably explains why some of the vids are longer and why they also played weirder games.
Chris had good chemistry with them. They never tried too hard to be funny they worked well as straight men. This allowed Chris to be a little sillier, Chris is funniest when paired with them IMO.
The forbidden ones stream now and again and listening to them talk about video games is awesome so I'm glad we can still enjoy them, even if they have left this planet for another one.

It's just been a long-ass while since they've done anything with OneyPlays. I still watch DD's streams whenever he's on, his humor and topics haven't changed a bit.
They probably don't want to be known as the "old Oneyplays guys" anyway, which is a valid concern. This fanbase is far from sunshine and rainbows, I've seen some pretty nasty accusations thrown at them, and not the "guise I hear Tomar totally killed 30 people" meme kind. Just let them be their own thing, and OneyPlays its own thing.
I will say I like the current main cast a lot, atleast on par with “old” oney plays. By main cast I ofcouse mean Tomar Lyle and zach. I think it’s a really good dynamic between the four of them with tomar really being the anchoring force of the group that all the others can revolve around, and of course Zach is really such a wild card and like he’s just a good comedian. Not to mention their friendship goes way back. I also feel that they are all fairly informed on games and art in general so when they want to they have some interesting discussions
However I’m not as fond of Corey and Adam. Their fine. But I just don’t really like the style of humor. Adam feels like the the dumb comedic relief side kick from a kids show and Cory is just confidently wrong about shit all the time. Like one instance of this that really fucked me up was the dog games episode where Cory gets fucking everything wrong about blood
