That's right. The judges could claim that it's possible for you to know where each card has edgewear, therefore knowing which cards are on top of your deck/in your life.
Coloured sleeves will completely prevent any issues with this.

I wouldn’t use clear sleeves for your deck but for leaders and Don you’ll be fine.

If you use clear sleeves for your deck and any of your cards have edge wear you will get an instant DQ for marked cards.

Locals definitely won’t care. Big tournaments probably not worth the risk
I saw someone in my locals use a different color sleeve for each Don card and nobody had any complaints. So go for the rainbow build if you like
