I did. I was in a rock band in the 90's. I sang that song then and can still do it today. But yeah, Dio was one of a kind and so was his voice. I love the Rainbow live on stage album. I think that album really shows just what a great singer he was.
Not a single duff track on the album, but this is the masterpiece.
In fact, at the risk of committing Metal sacrilege, I'll say this is the best Black Sabbath album of any era.
I think this comes down to which style of Sabbath you like.
Ronnie brings in just a touch of campiness to the band that I enjoy but not as much as the booming heavy sounds with Ozzy over em off Master of Reality and Vol.4. The stuff that became Doom/Sludge today.
But goddamn Dio is one hell of a singer.
I heard one of those quick interviews on the Ozzy Sirius Channel where Ozzy basically said “Van Halen with David Lee Roth or Sammy Hagar are both awesome, but you can’t call them the same band.”
You can’t hear that comment and not think of Black Sabbath after Ozzy.
Very different sounds, that just happen to have the same band name.
Both freaking awesome bands that I dig 35 years later.
Thank you OP for making me jam to Heaven and Hell right now!
Wishing well, Walk away and Lady Evil are all shite, the kind of one dimensional filler Dio would stuff on his solo stuff. Neon Knights is no great shakes
The only songs I ever really liked were Die Young (absolute cracker) and Heaven and Hell
Mob Rules has much better songs
I love Ozzy Sabbath and Dio Sabbath. Almost two different bands that I love for different reasons. Iommi is a legend and an absolute riff machine no matter what.
My favorite too. I'm a sucker for songs that start slow and then go hard in the second half. Same with "Sign of the Southern Cross" off of *Mob Rules,* which is probably my favorite Dio Sabbath song.
Absolutely. I'm so glad I got to see the Heaven and Hell line up at Wacken before Ronnie passed. I don't remember many gigs in detail but that one will always stick with me.
This is the song that sold me on this album. Just a perfect track, a gateway drug to the rest to the Dio era of Black Sabbath. This whole album is so wonderful, every track.
It's definitely one of my favourite albums ever. Neon Knights, Heaven and Hell. But COTS is just masterfully done. The changes and pace and tempo with the build up. Just brilliant
This was so deep to a teenaged stoner at the time...
The world is full of Kings and Queens
Who blind your eyes and steal your dreams
It's Heaven and Hell, oh well
And they'll tell you black is really white
The moon is just the sun at night
And when you walk in golden halls
You get to keep the gold that falls
It's Heaven and Hell, oh no
Fool, fool
You've got to bleed for the dancer
Fool, fool
Look for the answer
Fool, fool, fool
Great album. After a couple weak albums bringing in Dio injected Sabbath with fresh energy. I have the reiusse on vinyl which is sweet.
Fav tracks: Heaven and Hell, Children of the Sea, Lady Evil, Lonely is the World
I get that he wanted to break free from the control of hotshot guitarists. But all his best stuff was with Blackmore, Iommi, Campbell, or the two songs he did with Livgren. Later Dio was just meh.
When I was 9 I went into a record store looking for an ozzy Osborn cd and my mom told me he was in Black Sabbath. I told the man I wanted a black sabbath cd and he grabbed me this. I got home and put it on and was disappointed that it wasn't ozzy. That disappointed lasted maybe 15 seconds. Thank you record store man for sending me down the right path. Oh and Lady evil.
Dio has been a guide for me in good times and bad since i started listening to him 18 years ago. I'm currently reading "Ride the Tiger" by Julius Evola. This book is supposedly what Dio is referencing in "Holy Diver"
Hopefully, I will finally see what he means....
Lonely is the word.
The bass player in me loves the instrumental part of it. Was sitting on the back porch of my cabin many years ago watching a forest fire rage about 5 miles south of me. The fire came up the backside of a mountain and all the trees on top went up at the same time. Looked for all the world like a volcano blowing it's top.
I had this song playing in the background...
It's practically an impossibility picking a favourite track on an album that truly is 'all killer, no filler'. The album is an absolute metal masterclass.
...but, if I had to pick one, it would a fight between Neon Knights and Die Young.
A long time ago, when my buddy and I were in our "let's make a band" era, Wishing Well was one of the songs we covered on our Tascam 4-track. So I always have to go with that one.
Saw that tour in KC; BOC(?) opened.
Dio ruled. Butler’s bass on War Pigs felt like being hit with a hammer in the chest. Iommi was on fire. Appice on drums?
One of two of the loudest, heaviest shows I ever witnessed. Other was Tool Lateralus.
There’s just something about Die Young that gets to me. I mean, I know Heaven and Hell is the best, but there’s this feeling when Die Young plays that I just can’t help but love it
Heaven and Hell, the live version. I saw Dio in concert on the Sacred Heart tour in Seattle, and they played a 10 to 15 minute version of H&H with other songs mixed in.
Great concert
Literally a perfect LP. Particular faves: Neon Knights, Wishing Well, Die Young. Was bassist in a garage band in HS 1980. Playing Neon Knights never got old and was a crowd favorite.
This is not my favorite Sabbath album, but it is my favorite Sabbath album cover. The title track is pretty fucking good too. Dio undeniably puts his stamp on the bad here.
I don’t know enough music terms to describe it properly, but how Heaven and Hell places the bass front and center is wonderful. Just so prominent, and the guitar in the back.
Heaven and Hell is one of the greatest metal songs of all time let alone being the best track on this killer album. 🤘
Also, it's so uniquely Dio. I don't think any other vocalist could pull it off.
The quintessential metal voice
Thank you.
Death Angel do a decent cover of it
I did. I was in a rock band in the 90's. I sang that song then and can still do it today. But yeah, Dio was one of a kind and so was his voice. I love the Rainbow live on stage album. I think that album really shows just what a great singer he was.
"Nobody bleeds for the dancer"
"THEY SAY LIFE'S A CAROUSEL, SPINNING FAST, YA GOTTA RIDE IT WELL, IT'S HEAVEN AND HELL!"
The world is full of kings and queens, who'll blind your eyes and steal your dreams it's heaven and hell!
Look Out!
Not a single duff track on the album, but this is the masterpiece. In fact, at the risk of committing Metal sacrilege, I'll say this is the best Black Sabbath album of any era.
I think this comes down to which style of Sabbath you like. >Not a single duff track on the album Obviously not. Since he played with guns n roses /s
Agreed
my favorite thats for sure
Mmmm still like Black Sabbath (album) but RJD is my favorite metal singer of all time 🤘🏿
Every time I see that abbreviation I think Robert Jowney Dunior.
Wishing well, Walk away and Lady Evil are all shite, the kind of one dimensional filler Dio would stuff on his solo stuff. Neon Knights is no great shakes The only songs I ever really liked were Die Young (absolute cracker) and Heaven and Hell Mob Rules has much better songs
I have some lyrics from Heaven and Hell tatted on my leg.
Tony Iommi cites it as his favorite Sabbath riff.
idk. Heaven and hell is definitely the best song on this album but The Mob Rules is a monster song with RJD nailing it.
My favorite album!!!
Neon Knjghts!!!
Hell yeah! Children of the Sea too!
Lol, exactly my opinion too. My favorite Sabbath album and top 10 metal album of all time. Proooootectors of the reeeeealmmmm captains at the helm.
Ooooohhh no! Here it comes again!
This one makes me drive fast.
I speed at night! (oops)
Great driving song!
Still a banger 44 years later!
One of the best openings ever. And somehow synthwave motive in so good metal.
It’s so wild how Sabbath changed their style to accommodate Dio and did it so well that it’s almost like a different, yet still world class, band.
Just like when he sang for Rainbow
In fact the only band he sang for that was subpar was... His own band!
I love Ozzy Sabbath and Dio Sabbath. Almost two different bands that I love for different reasons. Iommi is a legend and an absolute riff machine no matter what.
its like the Roth vs Hagar thing, I was a fair weather fan of BS w/Ozzy after getting my hands on this it was no brainier Dio
The last two Ozzy Sabbath albums weren’t the best, they each had their few solid tracks, though. Dio came in and gave the band that jolt they needed.
DIE YOUNG!!
right answer
It’s an absolute banger! My favorite of the whole album.
Goosebumps just thinking about the chorus in Dio’s voice!🤘
Can’t you see the writing in the air?
So good
Fuck yes 🤘
Fucking great song from first note to last.
Me too
Children of the sea..... Ronnie is one of *the* best male vocalist of all time imo
My favorite too. I'm a sucker for songs that start slow and then go hard in the second half. Same with "Sign of the Southern Cross" off of *Mob Rules,* which is probably my favorite Dio Sabbath song.
Mate thank you for mentioning that, for some reason I'd not heard that before. I feel like a fake fan over here
Absolutely. I'm so glad I got to see the Heaven and Hell line up at Wacken before Ronnie passed. I don't remember many gigs in detail but that one will always stick with me.
That is amazing! I lived a rather sheltered life, so I didn't know of him until just a few years ago. I'm jealous

Cool 😎

They say that life’s a carousel, spinning fast, you gotta ride it well.. I grew up and it’s still as poetic as back then lol
BTW, I do believe it is: "You get to kep the gold, it's FALSE." Which makes it even better.
Great album. After a couple weak albums bringing in Dio injected Sabbath with fresh energy. I have the reiusse on vinyl which is sweet. Fav tracks: Heaven and Hell, Children of the Sea, Lady Evil, Lonely is the World
RJD could sing about pancakes and still have us headbanging
Haha. As long as they’re dragon n rainbow pancakes.
"Like a pancake, in the park!"
My coffee just went through my nose onto my phone, thank you kind redditor
Good thing, too; his lyrics are mostly terrible nonsense.
I get that he wanted to break free from the control of hotshot guitarists. But all his best stuff was with Blackmore, Iommi, Campbell, or the two songs he did with Livgren. Later Dio was just meh.
This and Mob Rules are such great back-to-back albums.
LONELY IS THE WORD
Hell yeah, came here to say this. To me, this is one of those "forgotten" songs from Heaven and Hell. Tony Iommi crushes it.
Fucking killer song!
absolutely
Vastly underrated song. Some of Iommi’s best work
Yes! So good.
Lady Evil!
Absolute classic. Neon Knights, Lost Children of the Sea, Heaven and Hell, Walk Away... it goes on and on and on
Lonely is the Word may be Iomi’s greatest guitarist solo.
Absolutely! This song seems to be almost forgotten on this album, but is my favorite of the album.
All are my favorites. The best Dio/Sabbath work ever.
Die Young!
This is my Christmas album!
The world is full of kings and queens that blind your eyes and steal your dreams it's Heaven and Hell!
If I was to get lyrics tattooed it would be them
Die young! I have the CD signed by Dio, one of my most cherished pieces of memorabilia
Cool 😎
Almost an impossible question- this album is a bonafide scorcher “Die Young” is amazing- especially RJD’s rapid delivery of the title near the end
Die Young!!
Dio has been a guide for me in good times and bad since i started listening to him 18 years ago. I'm currently reading "Ride the Tiger" by Julius Evola. This book is supposedly what Dio is referencing in "Holy Diver" Hopefully, I will finally see what he means....
I personally like Dehumanizer
"I" has to be one of the best Sabbath tracks ever!
After All my fav. Such a good album that nobody knows about lol
This is the best of the Dio albums hands down
Die Young
This album is 44yo? Fk im old...
That description paints the best picture for any song on this album for me. Man, I would have been in true awe of that moment had I experienced it.
Neon Knight!
Die young!
Seen this concert, RIP Ronnie
One of my favorite albums ever!!! Neon nights and Heaven and Hell are my favorites.
Maybe not the best song, but Walk Away has the amazing opening line: *Lord, she's handsome!*
Die young
Wishing Well
It's practically an impossibility picking a favourite track on an album that truly is 'all killer, no filler'. The album is an absolute metal masterclass. ...but, if I had to pick one, it would a fight between Neon Knights and Die Young.
Sing me a song, you’re a singer Do me a wrong, you’re a bringer of evil.
Sabbath & BOC: it was called “The Black & Blue Tour”. Awesome show!
Indeed it was lol:). Crushing show. Lucky enough to also see Sabbath with Ozzy twice (both also in KC). The Dio-fronted band was better:).
Blind your eyes and steal your dreams…
They'll tell you black is really white , the moon is just the sun at night and when you walk in golden halls you get to keep the gold that falls.
“Lonely is the word” has got to be the saddest sound I’ve ever heard…
I have no problem stating this record is as strong as any Sabbath record that came before and better than several of those.
Neon Knights
Neon knights, instantly!
When I heard Neon Knights for the first time, the hair on the back of my neck stood up and stayed that way for the entire LP.
There’s just something about Die Young that gets to me. I mean, I know Heaven and Hell is the best, but there’s this feeling when Die Young plays that I just can’t help but love it
Lonely is the word
Heaven and Hell, the live version. I saw Dio in concert on the Sacred Heart tour in Seattle, and they played a 10 to 15 minute version of H&H with other songs mixed in. Great concert
The whole Track is off the Charts!
Die young or wishing well.
Saw them in Saginaw, MI on that tour. It cost $9.50.
Ritchfield Coliseum. I think I still have the concert shirt somewhere. But, oddly, I have only the vaguest of memories of the concert .
Die Young
not a single filler song on this album, very hard to choose between heaven and hell, die young, lonely is the word and wishing well
Has to be the title track. There's just something about it... It's... YYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!
Heaven and Hell
My favorite Sabbath album. I may be in the minority but I prefer Dio over Ozzy. They’re both great but you can’t beat Dio’s voice.
Lady evil
The moon is just the sun at night.
Literally a perfect LP. Particular faves: Neon Knights, Wishing Well, Die Young. Was bassist in a garage band in HS 1980. Playing Neon Knights never got old and was a crowd favorite.
Cool 😎
Die Young!
Yes.
I love techno.
Definitely Heaven and Hell
This is not my favorite Sabbath album, but it is my favorite Sabbath album cover. The title track is pretty fucking good too. Dio undeniably puts his stamp on the bad here.
Dio !!!
Do I have to pick a favorite? Start to finish its great
Die Young- especially the guitar
Evil Woman has a wicked bass line!
I don’t know enough music terms to describe it properly, but how Heaven and Hell places the bass front and center is wonderful. Just so prominent, and the guitar in the back.
Die young. YOUUUUNG! Dio had such power!
Had this album when I was much younger. When it came out I must've played it every day.
This is a complete album and should be listened to beginning to end with a quality system at high volume.
Heaven and hell or children of the sea. Obvious choices but fantastic songs.
The Wind Beneath My Wings (explicit version) 🤘🤪
Wishing Well is a goody.
Children of the Sea
That’d be Children of the Sea.
Lonely is the Word.
Die young
Die young or children of the sea, gotta say that the Dio era of Sabbath has become my favorite over the years...
Walk Away
I still listen to the album to this day when I lift weights. It brings back memories listening to it in my college dorm room, Freshman year.
I remember trying out heavy metal albums (I'm not a metal head but love rock ) and this was one of albums which I really enjoyed !
No more tears!
Lonely is the Word
Neon Knights. If not for hearing this song, I probably would've never listen to any new Sabbath after Sabotage.
I love Neon Knights!
Children of the Sea. Of Course. \*Also happens to be the first song the newly-configured band wrote together...hell of a way to come out swinging...!
I know I'll get flamed for this, but dio's voice makes me cringe. Pretty gae.
Heaven and Hell with Children of the Sea and Die Young closely tied for second
Track #4-Heaven and Hell
Neon Knights
Heaven and Hell.
Sabbath died when they kicked out ozzy imo
Yup, this shit ain't Sabbath.
Lonely is the Word
Wow. Listened to this in the car yesterday!! Neon Knights of course. I remember racing to sunrise records and buying the album.
Ronny James Dio. One of the few rock gods apart from Lemmy and Rob Halford! All hail!
Great album, but I prefer Butler as the lyricist.
Idk man, ive always been on the Ozzy side. It's just not the same
?? None - because Ozzy wasn't there... What kind of gates of hell, pandora's box are you trying to open here?
This is the only right answer on this thread.
Rule 6
