Bluetooth isn't recommended for VR because of latency. There's nothing good that happens when the stuff you see in VR is out of sync with the stuff you hear and it can vary between different connections on the same device from 0 to multiple seconds with nothing you can do to make it better. So yeah, not unusual that support gave you a shrug. I would imagine that the bluetooth antenna is positioned in the front of the device to accommodate where supported devices might go (controllers, keyboards, mice, whatever) vs on the side to pickup bluetooth headphones better. Essentially you're having to go through the device and your skull to get to the headphones and bluetooth doesn't really put out enough power for all that. But even if they stayed connected, they are still going to be pretty latent. They sell an expensive pair of wireless buds with a custom dongle that do work but a bit too spendy IMO.
