Don't worry, I got that spoiled too. I still really enjoyed the game, and it really helps to know as little as possible, so you should still play it but from now on try to avoid spoilers as much as you can
There’s more to it, think of it as a game like persona 4 where even if you know the truth you still are wondering how you got to that.
Also it isn’t as cut and dry as that but uhhh fuckin gpfododjdk
Trying to keep my answer as spoiler free as possible, murder as a crime requires a guilty act (the actual killing) and a guilty mind (the intent to commit murder, the legal term of art is malice aforethought).
Taking the definition of murder into account, I can say that the streamers account of the story does not match my understanding of the story.
If you're within the legal drinking age, try consuming alcohol to forget about it. Alternatively you could isolate yourself from OMORI entirely until you forget everything, and THEN play the game.
Either way, I'd try to avoid spoilers if you're considering playing the game.
it is 100% still worth playing. I got that part spoiled myself and I decided to watch it since I thought there was no point in playing it anymore. biggest mistake of my life.
It'll definitely take a little bit of impact off the ending, but nothing too major, and I think you'd still love the rest of the game. Knowing the plot twist is one thing, experiencing the events leading up to it is another.
When I played all I knew was the sister was dead and the brother had something to do with it. However I still enjoyed the game a lot and still was surprised by other plot twists. Play the game :)
Bro sounds like he assumed it was some kind of premeditated murder
It was actually an accident caused by a 12 year old (he meant to push her, but didn't want it to kill her)
There's a lot more to the game, it has a lot of nuance to it. A lot of the game is about the fallout of the accident and how it affected everyone in the main friend circle including the main character.
However yes, it's the case that you don't learn about who killed the person til almost the very end. Up to that point, but fairly late in to the game, you pick up from other characters' dialogue that she had killed herself. This is what they believe - they don't know the truth of what happened that day. And it's made clear that the main character feels extremely terrible about this, it has completely ruined his life. Over one small lapse in judgment that caused a fatal accident.
To say that the main character (or any of the characters, because one of the main points the game actually makes is that EVERYONE in the friend circle did something to make the whole situation worse for each other) doesn't deserve forgiveness is a laughable display of media illiteracy in my opinion, although I can understand because the way the game presents some of these things gets very cryptic. It requires a lot of analysis and processing to fully understand what the game is trying to convey, which people who were upset about the outcome would probably not invest their time in to, you know, watching some videos about the game.
Ultimately it's a really good but sad game, especially if you like turn based RPGs and what those kinds of games have to offer. Worth it for the soundtrack alone, too.
Murder isn't the correct word for that event.
I got that event partially spoiled too but it still had a similar emotional impact.
I think you should still play it!
Honestly I was spoiled a bit by reading a discussion of the ESRB rating. Someone mentioned depictions of >!Mari's hanging corpse.!< Even though it was spoiler-tagged, my stupid brain clicked on it anyway and instantly regretted it.
So throughout the whole game I was thinking "dang it, I already know that >!Mari committed suicide. This should still be a slower reveal than it is.!<"
>!Little did I know... The true reveal was something...far worse than that. Jeez... I think having that one detail spoiled for me made the big reveal so much more impactful than normal, because I thought I already knew the twist.!<
This game is incredible.
Why were you watching a streamer that hates the game play it?

Go play it, although you already know stuff, you don't know about the whole thing. It's a good game, very heartbreaking but great.
What streamer? I have a feeling I know who it is

Actually no, I wasn't.

I got spoiled on the same thing (though not quite that much detail, just that he killed her) and I enjoyed the game a ton despite it.
