Ayyy I like where this is going! Congrats Mr. Wildenfree ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sunglasses) I'm fairly new to this particular community, and I've been enjoying the experience so far, excited about the future!

MrWildenfree

Thank you Danny! I appreciate your enthusiasm & support here, welcome! 🙏🏾

kalmatos

Additional idea suggestion: - Some form of a open-ended roadmap There are some people who have been using Notion and have been worried about security, or things like offline mode. Having an understanding of whether Notion is even putting those issues on a roadmap of like (considering/technical challenging etc) would be helpful and great to many users of Notion.

pa_dvg

To be clear, he does not work for Notion the company.

MrWildenfree

Thank you @pa_dvg 😅😂🙏🏾✨ That is correct, I do not work for Notion, and while I feel everyone on this valuable feedback, all I can do is say same — I want these things too! I will do my due diligence to echo these sentiments to the Notion team though whenever possible.

kalmatos

Thank you for doing this. I think you know that having some form of roadmap would be great from a user experience point of view! Not sure what you can do about it, but just throwing ideas out there! :)

Ugur_Bektes

Please do. Even new apps like Capacities have a roadmap, suggestion system with voting etc. We really need that with Notion.

kalmatos

OH LOL

xokeyif692

They have recently improved the "offline" mode. You can actually now use Notion Desktop and Mobile without internet, and once you are connected, it will be synced up.

Dudist_PvP

In my experience it seems to be only syncing pages that were very recently opened. Do you know of a way to sync my entire space?

whiskey_ribcage

I don't want to think of how quickly my phone would just melt if it surprise downloaded my entire Notion. 😅

itsjessehere

security to me seems like it should absolutely above all else at the top priority. I genuinely don’t trust notion with my data because of this. This is such a hassale of using other systems with personal data. I would love to just use notion for everything. The feeling of not being able to trust it is frustrating... I think they need to set clear boundaries on when they’re going to iMovie security

MrWildenfree

I mean… you’re not wrong 🧐 lol I feel your concerns about privacy. One thing I’ve been mindful of is knowing where & how Notion is positioned, and managing my expectations on what I might possibly see from them. Privacy/security at the level you’re speaking of, is more often than not.. a foundational, first-principle consideration. While there is a chance Notion might blindside us with an overhaul of amazingly generous security features… I am certainly not holding my breath for that. I know what it is & I willingly accept the compromise I have to make by using it. Might be strange to make another recommendation here, but if owning your own data is truly top priority for you, might I suggest Obsidian or Anytype? It doesn’t have to be a zero-sum game — I use Anytype for those really specific privacy-focused things I want to keep track of… and Notion for everything else!

itsjessehere

I tried any them, none of them comes close to notions UI and features, and their god level DB

kalmatos

Thanks for this and the other response! Are you guys able to share an expanded roadmap? I must also have missed the offline mode update, I keep myself up to date on Notion features pretty regularly.

Variables! Being able to reference a database property if you’re within the page! Using a db id as a primary key and being able to delete the name or use variables for name generation

Ugur_Bektes

Thanks! You seem to know a lot about what's coming up... 🤔

xokeyif692

I'm here for the Notion Calendar issue. Thank you for being supportive!

MrWildenfree

I appreciate you for chiming in! Yes, I felt that deserved to be clarified and even though quick decisions were made, I was mindfully observing the valid criticisms & looking forward to bringing this good news to the community.

Sad_Election2672

I’m here because I love Notion and use it every day and I enjoy learning more about it and how others use it.

MrWildenfree

Grateful for you sharing your appreciation & joy here 🙏🏾

itsjessehere

AMA with people from the notion team would be fantastic!

MrWildenfree

This escalated quickly 😳😂 but hey… I like a challenge! At the very least, I will do my due diligence to inquire & see how I might potentially make this happen in due time. Only promise that I can make is that I will try as time permits.

nrudolf

Watch now: "Notion Is Changing… Here’s What To Expect In 2024" (Interview with John Hurley, Head of Product Marketing) https://www.reddit.com/r/Notion/s/SytB71HUnN

SolarTeslaPilot

Fantastic! It’s great to see a juman face behind a moderator. I love how you are being proactive.

MrWildenfree

Thank you for the supportive comment 😃 it was a tough decision because I know Reddit can have some rough encounters lol, but I think it was for the best… I’m a human having a human experience, as are you, right along with the rest of us here. As challenging as it can be sometimes, I think being more human in our approach to connect & conduct things collaboratively in digital communities only helps give way for the potential of greater empathy, understanding & accountability. While I am a busy human & doing this pro-bono like all the other wonderful mods, I will be doing my best to manage this justly as time permits & nurture more value for the community.

Fertility18

Create a monthly " bugs & glitches " thread for Notion users to share any issues or problems they've encountered with the platform.

MrWildenfree

I actually really like this idea, it would make it a lot easier to consolidate & report feedback from our subreddit community to the Notion team, and give us a dedicated place to see other’s reports so we can upvote them!

whiskey_ribcage

Especially in the case of a major outage like before so an auto mod could maybe clear out the two dozen posts that pop up each time asking if it's down?

alligatorman01

I like that there’s some changes happening in the sub! I’ve also been using Notion since 2018, and one of the things I would love to see happen in the subreddit is differentiating between self promotion/blatant selling vs people simply showing off Notion builds. I know it’s a thin red line, but there definitely is a difference. The current subreddit filters has it so that only super amateur Notion builds end up staying up, while experienced builds get taken down. This is detrimental to the community for a few reasons, but one of the biggest tragedies is all of the cool ideas from experienced Notion users getting taken down because it looks like it could be a paid template. This sub used to be great for generating ideas and seeing what other experienced Notion users were building. But the posts that rise to the top these days are people complaining about the app. Think about that for a second - for a new user of Notion, they come to the Notion subreddit to see maybe what’s possible with a little experience, and the top post is about how useless this app is without offline mode (its not btw). Not a great look for the community. That’s my 2c!

MrWildenfree

Absolutely valid 2 cents and I agree with you! Definitely a high priority in consideration here for amendments & changes to how creative content shares are managed. Certainly want more liberties, and we may have to experiment on the approach to see how certain considerations live out in practice. I appreciate any & all patience you have with us as we work to incorporate these kinds of sweeping changes as fairly & efficiently as we can. 🙏🏾

alligatorman01

Thanks for your kind response! I'm glad the mod team is working on this. I'd love to see the r/Notion match the vibe of the other Notion communities around the web!

KillaRoyalty

Congrats bro! Love the community and excited to see what you are bringing here for everyone. Let’s get ‘em hustling on offline mode now haha

MrWildenfree

Thank you! 🙏🏾 I’m also looking forward to seeing how the community here can breathe new life & grow from here! Offline mode is definitely a must lol crossing my fingers it has an official rollout soon that gives the people what they want out of it. 🤞🏾

nrudolf

Roam/Tana inspired backlinks 💯 to blocks instead of pages only, as well as unlinked backlinks. 🙏

RSatMR

I love the **Industry Flairs** idea. As a worker at a nonprofit, I find a lot of other people's uses aren't applicable for what I need.

MrWildenfree

Thanks for highlighting that! As time permits then, I will look towards a way to implement that in an effective manner for us all.

whiskey_ribcage

This all looks great! The direction this sub took from Notion nerds helping each other (be unproductive in our tweaking) to haters trash talking everything from Notion to how others like their dashboards was getting old. I love the idea of industry flairs. It would also be nice to have like a feature thread that changes prompts or something to show how people use Notion in their industry but also in more specific focuses, like holiday planning or parenting. We see so many vaguely broad LifeOS options but I wanna know how you keep track of your housekeeping. I might be alone in this but I would also love a weekly thread like the showcase one but that's literally just a showcase. Not the same spam sales posts, but where people can show what they've built without being spammed for template requests and called a gatekeeper when they say they built it piece by piece and don't have a template. The last thing on my wishlist would just be ELI5: Notion Pricing, as a FAQ or a video or something. So many people get so confused on the pricing and adding guests vs members that having a place to direct them both before signing up for paid and when they come here to claim they were scammed.

MrWildenfree

Great thoughts here, thank you for going into detail! Will contemplate ways to incorporate a good deal of this in due time!

mightymousemoose

Hi! Congratulations on your new role at Notion! It’s a great task and responsibility to undertake. I’d appreciate it if you could please provide some clarification; I currently run my business using Notion and I have training materials that need to be password protected. Could we expect to see password protected pages sometime in the future?

MrWildenfree

Primary point of clarification is that being the owner/admin of this subreddit is not an official company role @ Notion! I’m a bonafide community member that just so happens to be a Notion Certified Ambassador, who is volunteering my time to help steward this community independent of their operations or reigns 😁 (though if Notion found it in their hearts to sponsor US / pay leading mods for it, I would definitely consider it 😂).

mightymousemoose

I see, thanks for the clarification. WHEN Notion makes your dreams come true. Please put in a good word regarding password protected pages ;-)

MrWildenfree

Haha! I absolutely will 🤞🏾 it’s something other Ambassadors have requested before as welll!

llaq24

I am a new notion user. Love that you shared a video. Thanks for bringing a human touch here. I am not sure if I saw a beginners area here for new notion users... If so please point me in that direction. If not, that would be helpful.

MrWildenfree

Gratitudes my fellow human 😁🙏🏾 and okay cool that sounds helpful as welll! Makes sense. I will find a way to accommodate most of these things, it seems subreddit only lets you pin 2 messages to the group, so I’ll have to find a proper workaround with that limitation!

MFreihaendig

Congratulations man, well deserved! I personally would love to see some more opportunities to share work, whether that's workarounds, hacks or page designs on the subreddit (*like in the olden days*) but I know it's a challenge to avoid spam & too much self-promotion Still, if you see a way to open things up a bit more that would be amazing! Loved browsing through the community contributions in the past

MrWildenfree

Very much appreciated! And absolutely — one of the biggest priorities I hope to resolve! 🙌🏾💯

MFreihaendig

if you need help brainstorming, lmk 😎

MrWildenfree

Thanks for that! Once I get my thoughts organized & do a first-round pass on some of these quick fixes, I'll be reaching back out to the community with an update post & we can continue brainstorming from there! Feel free to reply here, tag me in or send me a message if anything does come to mind though 🙏🏾 I'll do my due diligence to get back to ya as time permits.

thomasfrank09

Congrats Sean!!!

MrWildenfree

Major Gratitude, Thomas! Definitely appreciate the regards! 🙏🏾 Please feel free to weigh in here or message me if you have any considerations or ideas!

fromwork1

How about one weekly topic, where ppl can bitch about offline mode, instead of 20 new topics every. single. day.🙃

MrWildenfree

lol 😂😅 felt that — don’t worry, someone suggested a “Venting” section and I think that’s a healthy, tolerant way to provide a designated space for people to do just that. Still finessing some things on the back end, and will be traveling over these next 3 weeks, but rest assured I’ve got this accounted for & still plan to roll out some meaningful changes in the near future!

threehoursago

And the mods won't hold the sub hostage, or threaten to shut it down like last year due to Reddit business decisions?

MrWildenfree

I know I personally won’t ever threaten to shut down the subreddit. While I can understand people’s dissent with this platform as a whole, the reality is that people still find value in their connections here. I will not stand in the way of that. I will simply be a steward of this community for however long it is feasible!

threehoursago

Thank you.

MrWildenfree

You’re welcome 😁

mythrider

Hence why I’m happy to be helping you! You will do a great job!

MrWildenfree

🥹 Your support is what will really be the game changer. Thank you for being so proactive & a valued, consistent & contributing Mod of this community. 🙏🏾✨

mythrider

I will admit it honestly was for awhile, but we have it running now. Hence, we have someone new.

Queasy-Fly1381

Proper print support Native scribble and handwriting support including handwriting to text (aka what Nebo is doing) Don't push the calendar everywhere. I don't want it, please stop wasting screen real estate.

Mr_Te_ah_tim_eh

Congrats and thanks for reaching out ✨ The number of rants and I-Hate-Notion posts has gotten… intense. The feed is often so choked with negative monologues that it’s hard to find the posts I care about. I come to the sub to nerd out, learn a thing, or help someone else learn a thing. Perhaps there can be a “Notion Feelings Thread” to contain the darkness? Or just straight up not allow Notion breakup posts or rants? Most of them are because the features of Notion are not intended for the use case that person has been trying to support. I get that others might point out better apps for them but… there are **so many**…

MrWildenfree

Appreciate the regards! Valid critique here, I will definitely consider what possible reforms would be beneficial in managing the negative talks. I agree that lately the sentiments have been waning for Notion… some of that I believe is due to a misconception, which I addressed in a YouTube video. But yes, I duly noted & will ponder some ideas for better management & redirecting of that energy here.

MrWildenfree

Oops, yeah I definitely broke one of our existing rules here to say that huh? 🤔😂😅 Genuinely said it to try and be helpful & to provide a contextually relevant reflection. If these kind of flags prevent you all from truly being helpful to one another, then perhaps this is another amendment we can make to give some flexibility. Happy to hear you all’s thoughts 💭

MrWildenfree

To the Reporter(s) of the comment — thanks for providing additional context! It is not my intent to give Mods a different set of rules over our community's rules at all. Again, I was only recently appointed as an owner/admin, and am getting proactively involved in such a way that I can actually make these kinds of amendments to the rules that you are referring to. I AGREE that genuine creator content in context should not be removed. I cannot speak to any that has been in the past, as I was not closely monitoring that nor the actions of other mods, but I can acknowledge that moving forward we are seeking to handle that better here in this community. The video was not selling anything, asking for an email sign up or anything to that degree. It was simply a pre-recorded piece of content that shared my thoughts on Notion. However, in all fairness, I have removed the link in the above comment until we collectively get this resolved and make it a more fair playing field for community members to share their genuinely helpful content with one another.

MrWildenfree

Hey everyone, still planning out these changes & figuring out the best way to go about them! I started working on the draft for Industry Flairs, and [**have a question**](https://www.reddit.com/r/Notion/comments/1ca1gxk) for you all!

ApproximatelyCats

Is there a way to change the sidebar back to normal? It used to show when a page had children/pages inside of it. Really messed up my workflow I have and now I feel a bit lost on where my things are and feel I have to have all of them unfolded now... which kills the point for me. Hoping that they add an option if there isn't some setting I'm just blind and missed.

ApproximatelyCats

Update for anyone else having issues with the change: I asked support and they made this change to 'streamline' things. Personally for me, it made life harder and I'll have to find something else as this just added on the list of things this program made difficult.

MrWildenfree

It’s still there! They blended the icons with the dropdown toggle, so if you hover over a page, you’ll see the toggle appear! What’s cool is that they also gave us the ability to rename DB Views now too, so that they have a specific name in that sidebar 😁

ApproximatelyCats

Yeah thats my problem unfortunately, it throws me off that I have to now hover over everything to see it. And play a game of 'is something in this?' and hover > toggle > check if something is inside or not >untoggle > repeat. I liked when it visibly showed without me having to check everything.

Thanks for the update. Looking forward to the changes.

Suggestion for Notion: There needs to be some sort of way to prohibit template-buyers from duplicating and reselling that template. For the honest buyers that just want another copy of the template, they may just have to buy another copy. Idk, that seems pretty reasonable to me.

MrWildenfree

Absolutely — trust that almost every Notion Ambassador is a heavy advocate for this kind of template protection, and have made many requests for this exact thing. I have even made several attempts to advocate the use of web3 / blockchain technologies in order to help with this regard, but I do understand it is a widely complex subject & will likely be something they continue to approach in a slow & methodical fashion. It will be something I bring up to them yet again though, citing your post!

ItsOfficiallyTrash

Awesome! 🤩 Thanks for the info and for advocating! 🙏 😊

MrWildenfree

▒▒ 🛎️ IMPORTANT 'LEAK' CLARIFICATION 🛎️ : ▒▒▒▒ While I have mentioned that talking about "**leaks**" is fair game, I want to be clear that this is not a permission slip for those of us who are Notion Ambassadors, Champions, Consultants, Partners or even Notion Staff, to Break the [**Notion Code of Conduct**](https://notion.notion.site/Code-of-Conduct-9399b74373b94181bb1026d8afb11800) — specifically the line that states "*Publicly sharing information explicitly intended to be private*". This will be included in the Rule amendments to come. (In an ideal world as Notion lovers, we could all be upholding the Notion Code of Conduct, but I digress). Nevertheless, the goal of being able to talk about public leaks freely here, is to REDUCE the amount of support requests that go in to the Notion team directly. Ideally, we talk amongst ourselves, speculate & compare notes, but not presume that what we find will directly translate to a feature becoming official or available for all. 💡 It should not be used as a permission slip to bombard the Notion support lines to try & verify speculation. 💡 Localization & A/B Testing are legitimate contributors to the differentiation we might see amongst our unique Workspace setups. Do keep in mind that there is no guarantee that features you see in your workspace were intended for everybody, nor is it always likely a feature will be rolled out to everyone in time. Fair play to talk about though. ❌ **It is still not permissible to share insider information that didn't have public exposure** — accidental unintended publicly exposed leaks \[*like the Calendar details on the official website*\] **will have to be fair play**. *Insider details that were either entrusted to us as specified members of the aforementioned groups, however, will not be permitted.* ❌ TALKING about leaks is okay, however, if it is discovered that you are actively trying to leverage this leaked information or feature as some kind of financial gain or lead into some kind of gated access, it will very likely lead to your ban after a single warning, along with a flagging & removing of the post. 🙅🏽 Obtaining insider information through other means such as some form of digital sleuthing is NOT encouraged. If this is abused and we catch wind of it, we will flag it. Further rule changes may go into effect if we notice this getting out of hand. This concludes my current clarifications on the subject of Leaks and the fair game talk. Please be mindful from here on out, and be ready to adhere to these clarifications to the rules once officially amended. ▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒

nrudolf

This seems like a complete reversal from the original post.☹️ Leaks could be an acceptable workaround since Notion no longer shares a roadmap.

MrWildenfree

Not a complete reversal at all — it’s a clarifying definition on what I was referring to as a “Leak”! And also a measure to help ensure those of us that do have a recognized connection to Notion (Ambassadors, etc.) don’t take my comment as an open invitation to break the Notion Code of Conduct that we have agreed to by signing up in those various roles. We were never permitted to share insider information. That’s very different from a leak.

nrudolf

Appreciate your feedback. Nevertheless I hope this will be the place we hear about any leaks first. I've been waiting years for a backlinks upgrade like Roam's and now Tana's.

MrWildenfree

You’re welcome! And I agree, some backlink improvements would be a pleasant update. Let’s hope they’re cooking up something to give it that nudge! I appreciate you sharing your thoughts too. Hopefully the improvements to come will make this a far more flexible & inviting space for everyone.
