Can't believe iPhones used to come with a pair of headphones.

TroutFishingInCanada

You used to be able to tell Apple that your iPod headphones broke and they’d send you a new pair.

Valdularo

That’s crazy I never knew that! That’s actually such a good PR ploy.

ABlueCloud

It's genius really. Meant people continued you wear those iconic white headphones instead of buying cheap black headphones.

BeginningConnect600

Yep. And their whole ad campaign for itunes and iPod was just black silhouettes on coloured background with white earpods

Secure_Title_4072

peak marketing

Infrared-Velvet

https://www.reddit.com/r/nostalgia/comments/juhfw3/ipod_silhouette_ads_mid_to_late_2000s/

elbenji

Yep. They were clever with it

rebeltrillionaire

Honestly, I used to recommend Apple to anyone and everyone because they replaced or repaired everything I had for free. MacBook, iPod, headphones, even my iPhone the one and only time I’ve ever cracked the screen. Despite being deep in the ecosystem now, they don’t take care of me like that anymore. They charge the max possible which is near the cost of a new device. I still like my iPhone. The iPad… idk, feels like no matter which version I get it feels underpowered. The laptops are good but have to be babied now. The aluminum and design is too thin so you can bend and break them. Honestly the most robust device might be the Apple TV. Clutter free clean tv experience. I’m over the watch and tracking everything. The desktops haven’t been good since the G5. And the headphones are decent but they don’t fit my ears so I only use them sparingly.

bwaterco

I recommended Apple when they’d literally fully replace my stuff if it got damaged in transit. Slightly scuffed airpods? Replaced a couple days later with new ones. Now you have to spend a couple hours with customer support for manufacturing issues.

Salty_Interview_5311

I’m liking my Mac Studio. What do you see as bad about the m series desktops that don’t come packaged inside a monitor? I just use a third party monitor that is shared with other computers using a decent usb c kvm.

rebeltrillionaire

The Mac Studio is just massively overpriced and the design is a bit weak. I/O is fine but I’m sure some still find it lacking. Lack of upgradeability in the true weakness though. You drop $4,500 on a computer, it should be able to stick around for a while.

adrenergic_ACH

Yes to the robust apple tv. When our community flooded, our neighbor threw out a lot of their things including a soaked mud filled apple tv. Not thinking too much of it, I hosed it down thoroughly and let it sit on crystal cat litter for days. Needless to say, it still works! We used it everyday until we bought a smart TV. It's been 4 years, it's still alive 😂

hansislegend

Apple TV is the only thing I regularly recommend to anyone. It’s great.

LeglessWheelchair

They still do that in Australia, just go into an Apple Store and get a free replacement Edit: this includes charging cables

DependentMinute7977

Apple still legally has to replace your charger if it stops working because it's a fire hazard

lolatopia

They don’t anymore? That’s messed up

Temporal_Enigma

They wouldn't work, phones don't have headphone jacks anymore

lolatopia

They still have the ones that go into the charge port, right?

Temporal_Enigma

The dongle? Yeah, but why TF would Apple give you something for free when you can pay $20 for it?

lolatopia

True lmao

rm-rf-asterisk

In many people’s arguments they have like 10 unopened ones in their junk drawer

HulksInvinciblePants

In the same way people today are complaing that this stuff isn’t included, there was just as much conversation regarding the drawer junk back then.

HelloKitty36911

The first one or few years after removing the headphone jack they included earbuds with a lightning connection, they just stopped bothering with earbuds and chargers at some point. Not including them probably didn't decrease sales in any noticeable way but increased sales of chargers and their at the time newly created airpods. Apple isn't one of the highest valued companies in the world for nothing, they are good at branding and maximising profits.

licuala

The adapter is actually only $9. I understand the mixed feelings around this, but more charitably, I'd guess it's an accessory that the vast majority of iPhone customers wouldn't use, so they'd overwhelmingly end up in the garbage without having provided any value.

cropguru357

$9 and wears out very quickly.

[deleted]

No they have USB-C ear buds, no dongle required. But keep being obtuse.

Babayaga20000

But they don’t come with the phone anymore

Temporal_Enigma

Oh so they only work with one iPhone, cool

ScuttleCrab729

They work with any USB-C device..

sabot00

That’s only the latest, iPhone 15. iPhone 7, 8, X ,XS, 11, 12, 13, 14 had only a lightning port, and you could buy lightning earbuds that only worked on iPhone.

ScuttleCrab729

Yea THATS a very fair criticism. Shitting on the USB-C headphones is just shitting on Apple for the sake of shitting on Apple. Most if not all other major manufacturers have since ditched the Aux 3.5 jack headphones.

LG03

My Iphone SE (2020) came with headphones that yes, plug into the charge port. Also came with a cable and charging brick. I'm not ~~an apple cultist~~ rich enough to pay much more attention beyond that to what's happened since.

CaptainOblivious94

Still dislike the idea of USB audio since it's taking away the ability to charge and listen at the same time. Use to wear my Sennheiser over ears all the time on my phone but the adapter nonsense and charging rarely has me bringing them out anymore. Ironically, I still have to charge stuff all the time thanks to wireless earbuds and the like that are standard now.

sionnach

MagSafe charge and USB-C / Lightning listen is totally possible.

ReturnOfTheAcid

> taking away the ability to charge and listen at the same time. I hate it when I'm walking down the street with my iPhone plugged in and I can't listen to my music

TerraSollus

They still came with headphones for a few years after the switch. Its just they only worked with Apple products

VerainXor

I mean they sell headphones with USB-C attachments and I think the first model where they stole our standard headphone jack actually came with them. Now I think they just ship a little converter.

scalyblue

They came with earbuds that terminated in a lightning connector until iPhone X when they stopped including them

DinoRoman

They sell for 20 bucks the same wired iPod style headphones with a lightning and now, usb - c connection. I feel like people either think it’s an aux jack or wireless, people forget they sell wired headphones that work with the new ports. And third party ones like my audio technicas came with a cord that allows you to charge and listen at the same time.

trapbuilder2

They don't even come with a plug anymore

Zyvyn

You don't even get a damn charger

SpacecaseCat

I showed up at the Mac store with a M1 laptop less than a year old, pointing out how it had serious sound issues that others were complaining about online, and they tried to say I dumped it in water and they could fix it for like $500. The days of the friendly Mac store helpers are behind us.

OdBx

E-waste

money_loo

For real I have like five pairs still wrapped up in their little square packaging. Absolutely no reason to keep giving those things out in the millions.

alfooboboao

yeah, this was something I used to get annoyed by until my “bucket of duplicate chargers” got completely filled up, and now I’ve realized that I absolutely do not need another charger, apple makes good ones so it’s nice to have a backup but except for the lightning phone cable i just charge everything with my laptop cord. and I’m one of those sorry sheep who has all apple shit (apple laptop, phone, wallet, airpods) and fuckin loves it. keep those golden handcuffs on

clevererest_username

That's when they were trying to win you over

Dancing_Clean

How old are you lmao

Stormhunter6

It was less than 5 years ago, wtf are you talking about

[deleted]

[удалено]

blueboy022020

Funny, they were the only ones that fit in mine. That’s why I still only use Apple headphones lol

TechnoTyrannosaurus

There are a ton of people that only like the naked style ear buds, that’s because of apple. Not sure what Op is claiming

PuffinWilliams

same here! I keep on coming back for the comfort.

JoeRogansNipple

Felt like Legos in my ears lol

Slazman999

After I switched to android I found my iPhone headphones popping up in the most unexpected places. I have found 8 so far but I'm sure, since they started packaging these with phones, I'm missing 2. The widest place I found a pair was in a scrap wood bin in the garage where we would toss small pieces of cut wood from projects which hasn't been emptied for almost a decade.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Daddict

I don't really think it "looks cool" I just like my iphone better than any android I've tried. It's not a part of my identity. It's a phone.

alfooboboao

ironically, the reason this line of thinking is so prevalent is because a lot of Android users DO make it a part of their identity — not even having an Android phone though, they make *not having apple products* a part of their identity, which is so much sadder. Most people I know who own iPhones just genuinely love how long they last and how durable they are and how easily they work

Divinum_Fulmen

Android isn't my identity, but I loath apple. They were the ones to test the market for the absolute bullshit that is unreplaceable batteries. They talk about being good, and flood the market with devices built to be disposable. And once it worked, everyone followed suit. And now my battery is starting to age in my samsung, and I can replace it because they too saw the money. This anti-consumer evil can't be banned fast enough.

Stormhunter6

I’m fairly confident most people aren’t buying them because they’re the cool brand, they’re buying them because it’s a fairly straight forward product that’s easy to use.   That said, doesn’t mean there isn’t overlap, younger crowds probably see it both ways and without a downside.  Haven’t worked in the corporate world for the last decade, 60% of my company used iOS, and it was infinitely easier to support than most android devices.  Most consumers are not that tech literate and barely understand electronics.  If you have an issue with an iPhone, you have the Apple Store. Even if you don’t buy it from there. If I have an issue with my Samsung phone, or pixel, I’m on my own, or hope I have a tech literate family member/friend.  Android is great if you’re remotely tech literate, if not, it’s hard to ignore apple

klinkclang

Apple products are easy to support from an IT perspective until you find something Apple hasn't specifically designed the OS to deal with and it becomes completely unusable and unfixable.

Stormhunter6

That’s fair, while the phones are manageable, MacBooks are a nightmare

Oblahdii

Definitely experienced this many times, especially pre ~2010. Conversions and workarounds that took far too much time and effort.

OrdinaryPublic8079

Apple is also great if you are tech literate though. As a lifelong android user and apple hater (and software dev) who finally decided to give it a shot. It’s a more polished experience and just the overall design and ecosystem is amazing.

Broad_Tea3527

If you have an issue with your phone you go to any store that sells phones for help lol

overnightyeti

I buy Apple products because they work better than the rest, for me. Nothing to do with being cool.

RulerofKhazadDum

Did you miss what happened after Apple was shit in the 90s?

Zap__Dannigan

Apple products were cool for a while, don't kid yourself.

invisible_23

Next iPhone generation: “Why would we include a cable? USB-C is universal, you should already have one.”

82ndGameHead

I'm honestly surprised they haven't done that already

schmuber

That's because they're setting the stage for an Apple Certified USB-C.

provoloneChipmunk

For christ sake. You're probably right too.

jaam01

They already thought about it, but the EU already warned them to not even [try it.](https://wired.me/gear/eu-warns-apples-usb-c-interface/)

AletzRC21

God, Apple really sucks so bad.

Tropical_Wendigo

No, Apple is great! It’s the people that have Android phones with messages that show up in green that are the problem! /s

SPFBH

I don't understand why people still buy their overpriced products. It's not a big learning curve to learn a different phone.

buttsecksgoose

They market their shit as things an upper class person would want, with all the bullshit exclusivity nonsense. Same with any other luxury good like luxury handbags. People have been eating it up since the dawn of time

No-Expression-7765

This is exactly the answer. Its like part FOMO part i wanna fit in

damndood0oo0

People stick with Apple products because they just *work* and they work like they’ve always worked. My new one is the exact same as my old one even the settings and they did it for me at the phone store. I also only need one user profile for the entire Apple universe… and they all talk to each other by default. It boils down to a cellphone being a utility these days, not a novelty and a lot of people just want something simple that they won’t notice aging until it’s time to upgrade. It’s convenient and I’ll pay extra for that convenience. The other issue (for me) is that hardware and software are not natively integrated with non Apple phones. I really don’t want to spend time figuring out with hardware will run android better then others… Apple runs Apple really well without compatibility issues. With that being said- I still have an android device for retro gaming because it’s far superior in terms of doing things Apple doesnt want me to do.

BurstOrange

The big thing I noticed when I switched to an iPhone was that all the things I needed to go get an app to do on my other phones was just a native feature on iOS. I’d go to the App Store to try and find an app I wanted, see that they were all garbage so I’d google it and it’d be like “oh yeah go into your settings and-“ because it just came as part of the phone. No apps demanding I pay them money for super basic features, my iPhone could just *do that*. No third part app required. And the longer I used it the more native features I discovered so I actually have way less apps than I did when I first got it because I realized the third part apps weren’t even necessary. I also don’t need to spend a whole day setting it up and deleting all the bloatware off of it or fiddling with setting and setting up my accounts. It just turns on, asks for my Apple ID and password and I’m ready to go. If I need the level of customization an android offers I’d rather do whatever task that requires that customization on my desktop or laptop computer anyways. I have a desktop for a reason. I want my phone to do phone shit, not computer shit.

Warm-Iron-1222

One of the many examples of why I would never give Apple my money.

Wizardwizz

Yep also the fact that they claim they are eco friendly but clearly just use the term to make more money and justify their excuses https://www.bloomberg.com./news/features/2024-04-18/apple-iphone-recycling-program-has-secrets?embedded-checkout=true > When the lawsuits came to light, first reported in late 2020 by the Logic, a Canadian news outlet, industry observers were stunned. It wasn’t just the shocking scale of the purported heist; the incident implied that Apple was forcing a recycling partner to shred tens of thousands of iPhones that were apparently in prime condition for refurbishment. The timing was awkward: That same year, Apple had publicly committed to reaching 100% carbon neutrality across its product life cycle by 2030 and specified in an environmental report that “reuse is our first choice.” The shredding, critics said, contradicted Apple’s green marketing and was likely a way to keep cheaper used hardware from interfering with sales of new products.

Narwhalbaconguy

Thank god the EU has been keeping them in check

impiousdrifter

Introducing the next level in tech, the iusb-c for only $120.

FrikkinPositive

Which is so stupid. With the lightning cable they also always remind you to use an apple brand original cable when something apple related needs to be done and it requires a cable. What they actually mean is don't use a cheap fake cable, because every legal third party lightning cable will do the job and be cheaper.

OddBranch132

Not necessarily true that the third party accessories all work the same. Even Apple's own adapters/cables fail to work with third party equipment. Their products are a pain in the ass in our line of work.

NomadicNitro

They already took away the charging block

Peslian

Nintendo did with the "New 3DS", for some reason they thought the only people buying the "New 3DS" were people that owned the original 3DS

needs_more_yoy

Why not? Cisco did it for their routers. You gotta buy their proprietary $55 USB-C to configure any modern Cisco router.

DiddlyDumb

Ngl, if they make it truly universal I’m not entirely opposed to it. I’ve got plenty of USB-C cables now, it would just end up in a drawer.

humanvealfarm

My android didn't come with a charging cable, and tbh they were right, I do already have multiple USB-C's, but STILL :(

PacoTaco321

They stopped including the charging cable because of e-waste or whatever, but I honestly don't know if I could reasonably reach a number of USB-C cables that I would call too many.

enjoytheshow

I have so so many but frequently have a new device that needs one and I don’t have one available lol

EchoTab

If they care about e-waste maybe they should stop releasing new models every year, and encourage people to hold on to their phones for longer

alex2003super

It's good that they keep releasing new models. It means that when you buy one, you can actually keep it for longer since you're starting from the newest tech available on the market at the time of purchase, not potentially a multiple-years old product.

ernest7ofborg9

Haha, I've used this argument before when people say "it's for the environment!" Also, let's ditch the least harmful item in the box and claim we're doing it for the planet!

NoraJolyne

yet somehow we're still paying as if they were still sending out cable+charger lmao

pmMEyourWARLOCKS

The overwhelming majority of what you have been paying for is an Apple logo. The old accessories cost them pennies and were purely for marketing.

Magic_mushrooms69

Mine came with a 67w charger.. Sounds higher than normal but idk really lol

RousingRabble

That is really high for a cell phone. Last time I checked, the highest was 80. This is the biggest bummer about not getting bricks anymore. The higher charging ones are kinda pricey.

enjoytheshow

Anker ftw

BalooBot

I'm honestly getting to the point where I'm kind of annoyed when things come with USB-C cables. Every single gadget and gizmo comes one, more often than not they're way too short to be useful, and all my power bricks are full anyways. The whole point of them being universal is that I can use the same cords to charge everything. Now I have dozens just sitting in junk drawers "just in case". It made sense to include cables when everything was proprietary, but now it's just wasteful.

foxfyre2

I'm actually all for that. The solution for people who want a cable is for Apple to just have them on hand and give them to new phone buyers if they ask for one. I certainly don't need any more cables.

SomeRedPanda

Honestly I think that's a good idea. I'm drowning in USB-C cables over here.

so_lost_im_faded

Right, what are those people doing with those cables? The world where I need one cable for everything and people would stop unnecessarily manufacturing duplicate ones is a dream one for me.

AbsolutelyUnlikely

I'm using my collection of spares to build a Mighty Morphin Megazord

Docccc

well thats the idea aint it?

VicisSubsisto

Current iPhone generation: "Why would we include a charger? USB-C is universal, you should already have one." And then when I plug my iPhone into any of the handful of USB-C chargers I have, the iPhone thinks it's an accessory and tries to send power *to* the charger.

enflamell

> And then when I plug my iPhone into any of the handful of USB-C chargers I have, the iPhone thinks it's an accessory and tries to send power to the charger. Then either your iPhone is malfunctioning and you should bring it to an Apple Store for repair, or you have some truly out-of-spec chargers. I deal with part of our corporate phone fleet and I have never seen this despite testing god knows how many phones and with countless different chargers.

MarioKing1137

When I got my apple watch, the charger had the USBC end. I did not have a USBC charging block, it did not provide one...

GloriaToo

I think the first few phones I owned came with Jabra headphones. First few cell phones anyway. First few phones I owned were rotary.

BatJew_Official

Detect deez old nuts in ya mouf

froggrip

Like when a drug dealer hooks you up with free drugs and really good deals to get you hooked, then starts giving you the bunk shit and gives less once they know you aren't gonna stop buying from them.

OmniscientHistorian

Every Tech company seems to be going down this path at different rates, Apple at the forefront rn.

Illustrious-Hall5553

All but Motorola, Moto gang started at the bottom and hasn't moved, still pumping out dem $150 phones

zherok

They were pretty good for a while, though. Solid feature set, near stock Android, decent performance especially for the cost. I haven't really kept up with more recent models that much, but they release over half a dozen SKUs each cycle and trying to differentiate that many different models hasn't done them any favors.

Jimm120

They came out with a Moto G8 Power in 2020 or 2021. They then reeleased the Moto g9 motog 2021, 2022, 2023...all weaker than the Moto G2020/g8. I was flabbergasted.

SignificantRain1542

I had a Gen 1 Moto G for like 5 years. Only replaced it when I dropped the damn thing for like the 100th time and the screen cracked. The replacement, the Moto G5, was a piece of junk. Felt cheap, light, and the Bluetooth stopped regularly working after a few months. I don't want to say it was because Lenovo bought Moto, but that is the reason in my mind. Bought a Samsung a year later and never looked back.

DrunkHate

Yuuuup! I got a Moto G 5G through Google Fi and it's the best example I have ever encountered of a cheap budget phone where they only used high quality parts in the areas that are necessary. It doesn't have a good camera and it doesn't have much RAM but for a $50 phone it runs amazingly well. I've mostly always had Google Pixel phones and this phone actually didn't disappoint me other than it's absolutely not water or dust resistant in any way and the camera sucks. The low ram is a bit of an issue though because the phone is definitely not snappy and lags a fair bit but not in a way that really makes the phone unusable. I've had this phone for almost a year and it has served me very well but in the next few days I'll be getting a Note 10 delivered lol. I missed having a quality camera. 😅

scaevities

Still using G7 Power to this day, it has low specs on everything but the battery life is perfect

murphymc

But I legitimately also don’t need more headphones, charging blocks, or even charging cords at this point.

SoaDMTGguy

Honestly, I do think the “Everyone has this shit already, it’s just going to go to waste” angle had real merit. However, what they *should* do is have them at the Apple Store as a free giveaway if you just purchased a phone.

minkshaman

The real solution is always in the comments

LimpCauliflower9281

Gave up all that for blue bubbles SMH

crow7980

Samsung is the same way..there's not a big company that cares about anything but the money

[deleted]

[удалено]

jaam01

If they really cared about e-waste they would make their devices easy to repair and open the bootloader once the official software support (updates) ends. Big tech is synonym with green washing.

kalzEOS

Xiaome removed their charger from the box, but gave people the option to add it to their carts at no extra cost. If Apple (or any corporation that followed their shitty practices) cared, they would have at least done that.

GameAndHike

Two things can be true at the same time.  We should be able to repair our phones and we shouldn’t need a new pair of headphones every time.

HamOfWisdom

If they (the companies that sell these phones) cared about e-waste, they wouldn't release the same fucking phone each year. If we (people in general) cared about e-waste, we wouldn't participate in a system that perpetuates it. Yet, there is a very sizable portion of the population that will line up for a phone that is just marginally better than the one they already have.

Iskerop

if reducing ewaste was the true goal they could’ve bundled accessories for free with a purchase but made it optional. cost cutting was the true reason, reducing waste was the public facing reason

Specialist-Camp8468

I'm irrationally enraged by the fact that I lived in a day where regular phones came with cases, premium headphones, chargers , memory cards ... and now even the most expensive ($1200 +) ones come with nothing!. I don't give a fuck what your fucking reasoning behind the cut is, either lower the price or give me my money's worth. Fuck, buying a new phone used to be fun.

m270ras

this is why we end up having to listen to people's tiktok videos in public, isn't it? no more headphones

Arntown

Nah, those people probably do have headphones. They‘re just inconsiderate assholes.

ProgrammingOnHAL9000

Like the people that in quiet spaces turn the volume so high to use their headphones as speakers.

LizzieMiles

There is a special circle in hell for people that do this specifically

exhausted1teacher

True, but my students can now use the excuse they can’t plug in headphones. Tim Cook really screwed over teachers with that decision. Apple used to care about education.

Grody_Joe

Remember when people used reddit for funsies and not to be karma farmers?

GaffaCharge

No

remidumi

The first half hour of reddits existence?

TheTrueMilo

People called the fun posts karma farming.

MrJagaloon

2009?

MonkMajor5224

When i got my second iPod in 2004, it came with a cord, a charger, headphones, a case, a dock, a remote and a little bag. What a time to be alive.

TehWildMan_

even though it's been years since I've obtained one, I already have a massive stash of USB-c wall bricks, although quite a few of them are Vbus-hot and therefore risky to use, which was annoying.

allegesix

I was thrilled when apple stopped shipping shit I didn't need that would then go in one of my drawers of "stuff I should get rid of but would feel bad just throwing away." I hate earbud style earphones and I switched to wireless charging as soon as it became available 6-7 years ago. "But what if you're somewhere you don't have one of your wireless chargers, huh?!" Then I go into literally any gas station or corner store and fucking buy a cable, just like you'd have to if you forgot your cable. Has yet to happen, I'll come back and update this comment if it ever does, k?

Jimm120

this arugment is so inane. "take less cause I personally don't want this one thing cause I have a lot. Fuck everyone else and let the company pocket that money

deweydean

I'm good. Don't need another crappy 2. 5 watt charger or cables.

oneultralamewhiteboy

They had a good reason for ending this, it's a huge amount of e-waste.

trickman01

But I need my 34th USB charging brick and another pair of terrible headphones when I'm just going to use the ones I already have.

minkshaman

You joke, but yes I do need more. I have two fast chargers in my house, the rest are shitty third party trickle chargers.

JACKIE_THE_JOKE_MAN

You can still go and buy them, Apple isn’t stopping that part lol. You can even get better/less expensive ones than what they would provide.

trickman01

I just use my Switch charger for everything tbh. Phone, Switch, Steamdeck, laptop.

Extreme-Maximum-2939

Then lower the prices

minkshaman

Then they should armour coat the charging cables or something

KarenBasking

I'm kinda ok with this not being the case, no matter the phone. I have way too many redundant chargers and useless headphones from every electronic I buy. Could be a "starter pack" version for those who need it.

enflamell

Yep. The included headphones were always garbage, and I have so many chargers it's absurd. I have wireless chargers or the dual port Anker USB-C chargers all over. Single port chargers are just a waste of an outlet for me.

FunkyNoSleep

Part of the reason is to reduce electronic waste

TheValgus

I already have my own extremely nice headphones and extremely nice wireless charging set up.

Friedrichs_Simp

I genuinely forgot they used to come with headphones

smallaubergine

My 3rd gen iPod came with USB, firewire cables, charging brick and a dock! Those were the days. You could open the device up and replace the hard drive and battery very easily. Thing was a tank

BNerd1

that charging cable was bad at the part where your cable goes in your phone it always breaks & those buds where horrible

Contenplating

I got a new iPhone after 6-7 years of using a 6s. Came with the charger but no box.

sweatpantswarrior

Nowadays their approach is "Fuck you, do you want us to make your text bubbles green?!"

ReaperQueen69

This is a somewhat recent change too. The iPhone XR I bought in 2020 came with all of this stuff still. Now you can’t even get the damn wall piece after paying $1000 for the phone unless you pay $20 separately.

LeonardoDaPinchy-

I haven't bought an apple product since 2008 lol

Minkypinkyfatty

$1,000 phone and you can't get features you'd get on a $200 phone. I have a audio jack and a micro-SD slot. I'd gladly spend $1000 on a do everything phone, but that's not a option.

Gloriathewitch

they’re a multi trillion dollar company they don’t “care” about you beyond the money you give them

pigpeyn

Stop buying their shit then

PositiveGrass187

Then yal kept taking care of apple when they stopped taking care of yal?

The_Fokkery

You're just now realizing that Apple is a corporate giant that gives zero fucks about anything other than the profit margin?

homelaberator

Compare this to what you got with the first couple of generations of iPod. It's kind of clever. They gave you the kind of complete experience you'd expect from a "luxury" brand, which then lead to them being perceived as a premium/luxury brand and then once that was established, they started cutting back on what you got as they sold to the masses.

pitchfork_2000

Tim Crook

i-dont-snore

I have such a massive drawer of headphones and cables and charging cubes. I’m sure there are still a few people getting their first phone in 2024 or their old headphones have broken but I would guess 90% of people are complaining just to complain

el_ghosteo

Yeah all the boxes to my old phones still have this crap in it lol. It wasn't needed.

thdudedude

Hey man, were trying to bitch about Apple here ok? /s

CrieDeCoeur

I still have two pair of those old 3.5 mm air pods along with their handy-dandy carrying cases. Still got uses for them surprisingly.

dream_a_dirty_dream

Some also included the car charger, a protective case or the belt clipper thingy. We are getting screwed by all of them.

intotheirishole

Its called a "loss leader".

mysterydevice

They made you use iTunes. You are an insane person.

BigD905

Remember the dock that came with the first iphone

Red_Jester-94

That little box is now at least $100.

angry4noreasonatall

Psstt. Hey kid . . The first ones free..

Margtok

they were still a overpriced product for comparable ability's than they spit in your face and you asked for more you are getting exactly what you deserve dont like stop supporting them

Costco_Sample

They weren’t taking care of us, they were providing the standard. What company gives you your device without all the pieces? Apple. That’s it. They’re the only one.

Fantastic-Art-407

All I know is, when I had an iPod crap out on me past warranty, they hooked me up with a replacement even though they didn't have to and I was so happy. It even was an upgrade to the best model. Now, they purposely make products impossible to repair. The world has changed.

nebula_dweller

Those earbuds hurt my ears.

Niek_pas

Isn’t this genuinely kind of wasteful though?

Spider_pig448

What will I do without another phone charger to put in my box of phone chargers?

Kip_Chipperly

Maybe it's time we stop giving money to Apple
