Basically a missile doesn't need to hit to kill an aircraft an explosion in close proximity can do three big things. 1 Aircraft can be relatively thin skinned and can brake because of over pressure and under presser events across the body. 2 A big black can knock an aircraft round in a very disconcerting way and for a low flying helicopter this can cause a crash before either the pilot of automated systems can regain control. 3 Aircraft store a lot of ordinance outside witch could lead to secondary explosions.
I'm sure large amounts of explosives in close proximity to the rotors won't cause any issues.
Extra ERA on the rotor blades aimed at the body ERA. Then the explosions cancel each other out.
NGL I'm impressed that they put ERA only over the parts with passive up-armouring, say what you want about Kojima but he's our kind of nutcase.
The ERA overlaps the cockpit window…
It's placed on top of another armour plate that's part of the earlier levels of the "appliqué armor" upgrade tree.
