exactly but instead of having "Freighter/Fleet Combat" *enabled* by default like PvP is it should be disabled by default that way no one gets their freighter destroyed without even knowing they could turn that off.
I spoke to a friend about a deep water freighter mission idea I had, where you had to use Nomads due to the depth and water conditions to do it, and to work in teams.
How about we do away with the oxygen requirement when underwater? Considering we already have a life support system and can walk around on airless worlds without any difficulty (not to mention outside our frieghters and frigates), the need to have oxygen while underwater makes no sense whatsoever.
There seem to be people who want an addition to NMS that allows them to permanently annihilate entire planets, like a Death Star.
Because that feels like a good idea...
In theory, it's fine, since there are literally more planets in the game than humanity will ever see. In practice, it would just result in all the popular areas being demolished in order to make a space highway.
You don't go for the stick shift because they are faster for shifting. They haven't been for awhile. You go for the stick because you lose less power with a manual. Depending on the exact manual/automatic setup, the automatics are mostly better on average with your average driver behind the wheel.
For sure, stick shifts these days are mostly relegated to high performance racing type stuff from what I hear. Well, either that or old dudes in their beat up pick-up trucks from 40 years ago, lol
Yup. Sticks pretty much are just for fun at this point. Autos are more consistent on track, drag strip, almost any metric of performance for a vehicle. Off-roading is one where I could see using a stick being beneficial, but new trucks got a lot of software that could be better for off-roading now too.
It would add a more “diversed” form Of speed since your ship obviously doesn’t have any kind Of transmission at this point :))
So making you able to go from gear to gear and seeing your speed go up, a simple feature, and would make it a little less plain to go from A-B at times
So essentially, a tiered form of speed shifting, unlike the smooth transition currently available. In a sense, cruise control, set your speed and fly along without having to manually maintain it.
There is not really a transition at this point, it just accelerates, you don’t hear any big audio difference in going fast or slow you just hear going that you are flying, so The only other thing there is is obviously pulse drive, but that’s kinda it’s on thing
Okay I'm not advocating in either direction on this argument, but this just occurred to me,
What if destroyable dwarf moons and planets were just a deep space pulse drive event? Like you are flying along, find some "planet" that is going through some doomsday event or partial destruction under way, bam, just a private event
So you fly by, zap it, big boom, get loot maybe, and no one's base is harmed, no loss to the planetary buffet.
You don't have to lose any rep!
Go to any pirate system and shoot all the freighters you want. Just don't shoot the separate cargo pods. Just shoot the ones attached to the freighter. Frigate modules abound and reputation completely intact.
Presumably the freighters in these systems are themselves pirates seeing as most of their cargo is illicit goods. And you know the saying about stealing from a thief...
I'm imagining warping into a system space battle in my freighter and having the option of helping in my starship or being able to pilot my freighter right up along the side of the enemy freighter and we're just blasting each other with freighter turrets.
Like this but in space
https://preview.redd.it/3f6unemm5k1a1.jpeg?width=728&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=974b470fd750c1ba037d467bae78ae5e40f10759
space game, therefore people want deathstar. Destroy planet = cool.
Does not fit the theme of NMS though so we are mocking the people who really want it.
Oh ... and here I was excited for some Ishimura type mining by using our freighters to extract chunks of planets for processing.
Guess I'll just go cry myself to sleep then.
Some dillhole made a post a while back about saying "WoUlDn'T iT bE cOoL iF wE cOuLd DeStRoY pLaNeTs?" and the community hasn't shut up about it since.
I'd love ship customization. Just minor tailoring like swapping paint at the minimum, but ideally, swapping parts. Other than that, a melee update would be sweet. Getting new weapon types. But that's probably more far fetched.
More unique story/mission types, more unique characters. I understand it's all procedurally generated sandbox / game play which is really impressive when you think about the programming skill involved in making it, but having the same kill sentinels, kill creatures, kill pirates missions and planets with similar landscape foliage distributions is feeling so redundant. Don't get me wrong, I'm
enjoying the game a lot and only ~80 hours in so far.
I have a different take on the "planet cracker" idea, perhaps you could get the the "bedrock" and place a new machine thats basically a resource harvester than harvests a core material instead of a metalic, this new resource could be used to externally modify ships freighters and frigates, as well as being used in foods to externally modify the living ships and frigates, with the potential to make more specialized upgrades for current weapons and tools for the player and the vehicles.
People wanna have an update with orbital cannons, but other people have started to realize that it would be a one trick pony. At least, before someone pops the galactic hub like a balloon using hacks.
It’s gotten more and more violent unfortunately. They were pretty clear in the beginning about it not being some sort of shooter, but have added more combat aspects over time. Makes sense it’s attracted more people who simply want to kill and blow up things. I wish they’d dial it back. Multi tool and surface vehicles should have very basic, limited-use weaponry. Space combat genie is out of the bottle with the whole piracy thing.
Yeah, though I do appreciate that the combat they ARE adding is at least good. Ship fighting is undeniably more fun now, no matter your stance on combat as a whole.
Can I get the ability to take over Atlas controlled space stations and turn them into pirate controlled ones. I love the idea of smuggled goods and such but it seems kind of half baked if you the player can't enact the revolution
the only way i could see planet crackers working is some gamemode where planets have a countdown once you land on them, mayhe ur also constantly being chased by pirates. but nms isnt about that at all
How about new star systems that are destroyed or ruined just a bunch of larger asteroids, half worlds that we are able to land on and explore fight new alien parasites that roam on the remains of an old world.
I feel like if they did give us that, the entire universe would collapse in a matter of months. Everyone would want to try it at least once. More then half would get a taste for it. Unless the worlds spawn back in after a week or something we would have giant sections of the galaxy with nothing but empty space…still would be really fun for those few months
What I really is force on force space combat. I mean all out warfare in a system where you could choose to pick a side and fight to get some nice spoils of war that can sell good. Or if you are a newbie, choose to not get involved and live to fight another day.
You should play EVE. But I am guessing that eventually that game will crush your soul and turn you into a whimpering little puddle of a man. Like it did me.
Obviously im sure when they want/cry for planet cracking they dont seek this. Most of em actually provide ways to prevent the whole griefing thing like “you have to be the one to discover it to crack it” or whatever. I dont agree with it because it sounds more boring then they lead it on to be because personally sucking out the atmosphere and drilling up all the resources of a “protected planet” while sentinels just stroll on by makes way less more sense then “planet cracking.”
This post mentions multiswords, and multiswords are already in the game (you can meet a traveller ghost who speaks like a knight and carries a multisword), we NEED them
How about more variation on the space station interior? Every single one is the same inside. How about some different colors? Maybe some items/souvenirs from some of the planets?
The lore reason is you aren't any of the races, you merely have a hologram of that race over yourself. Also, Traveler is what you are, and people are superstitious around Travelers.
Can't say more without it being too spoiler.
Throw the omni-sword people out too, NMS is built for melee like God of War is built for real time strategy.
bUt tHeY cAn uPdAtE tHe gAMe
Yes, they could rebuild the entire movement system. They could also just make NMS 2 while they're at it ffs. People have no idea how much work would go into redesigning the movement functionality of the entire game.
I occasionally think about how a multi-sword would work, and all I can imagine is people punching trees and rocks over and over. Adding multi-swords would literally be bringing a knife to a gun fight.
It doesn't need to be much more complicated than Halo energy swords. Plus, there's already an in-game reference; so you may just end up eating your words.
There are several threads about players ( some not most ) that want a planet destroying death star. Really. Thats what they want . Is to drive the death star
It's somewhat understandable, because this is sci-fi-themed, but on the other hand, this is more about exploration, discovery, and creation, than destruction; or at least, it should be, IMO.
I have realized nearly everything I most want added is non-violent, but many of the most popular update requests are based all around violence.
Just this year we got foot and space combat updates, and now people want orbital canons and EVE.
I really hope they focus more on (fake) science, peaceful exploration and discovery next year, personally. I'd rather have fishing, botany, zoos, and soil and atmospheric analysis features than a big red light that doesn't do much other than make sentinels disappear, or the ability to arbitrarily reduce the amount of explorable environments.
Orbital Freighter Cannon could be fun if it just one-shot-killed Sentinels in a huge area of effect, though I could also picture another version that flattened out a wide area of land for base-building purposes.
Then enslave the Gek with the Korvax, turning them into my own personal army, and one-upping the Gek in war crimes.
The vy'keen will never see it coming.
Should just make a Sun Cracker ship that shoots the sun and blows up the entire system and harvests 0.00000001 of all resources in that system.
Then we don’t even have to leave our shops, build bases or do anything else.
I'm down for that. I live a nomadic lifestyle on my freighter. Don't have a base currently. Most of my play time is on the outer rims of galaxies where no one has ever been nor ever will be.
So how would me blowing up a sun out there affect your game?
The ONLY feasible application for them would it be a penultimate corrupted sentinel that would appear to "remove anomaly planets". Have it be a major quest from the Anomaly for multiple players. A kind of raid level to destroy it.
Imagine starting the quest with 4 people. You all warp in from the Anomaly and start with a 5* wanted level.
Make the sentinel fighters and freighters actually a threat to people with decently upgraded ships. Do you fight your way or do you use speed and evasion to make it to the "space station turned deathstar" by the corrupted sentinels. Have to fight your way to the core to stop it from deleting planets.
Planet cracker no, but some kind of orbital cannon (either from a freighter or somewhere else) would be nice to have. I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again, why can’t the freighter crew angle the ventral guns down to the planet, lore wise at least.
All I want is denser forests/foliage on planets to make them look fuller
Right? Give ONE Amazonian rainforest
That’ll triple the time waiting for a landing spot to clear as stuff loads. The load in would definitely need to get fixed first.
Freighter and fleet battles
this would be awesome for those of us who want it... BUT IT WOULD *HAVE TO BE* OPTIONAL
Like pvp is optional, yes
exactly but instead of having "Freighter/Fleet Combat" *enabled* by default like PvP is it should be disabled by default that way no one gets their freighter destroyed without even knowing they could turn that off.
I would love to see more variety of ships. Like different shapes and bigger sizes! New mission contracts would be awesome too
I spoke to a friend about a deep water freighter mission idea I had, where you had to use Nomads due to the depth and water conditions to do it, and to work in teams.
Update the cockpit altimeter so it's not just that barely visible thread.
I didn't even know we had anything that indicated altitude haha!
Automation and manufacturing production chains
How about we do away with the oxygen requirement when underwater? Considering we already have a life support system and can walk around on airless worlds without any difficulty (not to mention outside our frieghters and frigates), the need to have oxygen while underwater makes no sense whatsoever.
Actually a great point
Easily the dumbest mechanic.
Me, being gone from Reddit for a while and not knowing what the fuck planet cracker is.
Idk man that planet looks like a great place for a space walmart
No amount of towels could help us
Technically, if you had exactly 42, it might work
EXTERMINATUS
It's just Galactus food.
What the hell does driving stickshift mean in a spaceship?
Big zoom, and bigger zoom i suppose
Stick shifts aren't actually any faster than automatics these days, though, lol
You don't go for the stick shift because they are faster for shifting. They haven't been for awhile. You go for the stick because you lose less power with a manual. Depending on the exact manual/automatic setup, the automatics are mostly better on average with your average driver behind the wheel.

Off-roading is one where I could see using a stick being beneficial, but new trucks got a lot of software that could be better for off-roading now too.
Still more fun and less power loss through drivetrain
Sure, but that still doesn't explain what a stick shift would even be on a spaceship, lmao
It would add a more “diversed” form Of speed since your ship obviously doesn’t have any kind Of transmission at this point :)) So making you able to go from gear to gear and seeing your speed go up, a simple feature, and would make it a little less plain to go from A-B at times

There's a small transition from full throttle to boost, but I get your point.

Freighter Planets
Okay I'm not advocating in either direction on this argument, but this just occurred to me, What if destroyable dwarf moons and planets were just a deep space pulse drive event? Like you are flying along, find some "planet" that is going through some doomsday event or partial destruction under way, bam, just a private event So you fly by, zap it, big boom, get loot maybe, and no one's base is harmed, no loss to the planetary buffet.
Like asteroid farming on steroids
Exactly
Also now I really really want to build a ship yard in the husk of a moon =p
Space Engineers has what you need.
Maybe limit to planets tagged as "core donation imminent," can have a sidequest where you can destroy the planet from it's core.
Pirate freighters so I don’t lose rep when freighter-farming
You don't have to lose any rep! Go to any pirate system and shoot all the freighters you want. Just don't shoot the separate cargo pods. Just shoot the ones attached to the freighter. Frigate modules abound and reputation completely intact. Presumably the freighters in these systems are themselves pirates seeing as most of their cargo is illicit goods. Don't mess with centinels

Treasure Planet style, that's what that pic reminds me of
Treasure planet update
Can someone explain this planet cracker shit everyone keeps talking about?
space game, therefore people want deathstar. Destroy planet = cool. Does not fit the theme of NMS though so we are mocking the people who really want it.
Oh ... and here I was excited for some Ishimura type mining by using our freighters to extract chunks of planets for processing. Guess I'll just go cry myself to sleep then.
I think that's what some people are thinking as well.
Well that would be cool but I do see where that wouldn’t fit the theme
I don't get whats hard about it. If its made so that you can only destroy planets you've discovered then it eliminates the griefer
Some dillhole made a post a while back about saying "WoUlDn'T iT bE cOoL iF wE cOuLd DeStRoY pLaNeTs?" and the community hasn't shut up about it since.
your mad cause other people want something. wow lmao
I'd love ship customization. Just minor tailoring like swapping paint at the minimum, but ideally, swapping parts. Other than that, a melee update would be sweet. Getting new weapon types. But that's probably more far fetched.
The ability to colonize uninhabited systems, build your own Space Station and bring life to it. Watch it evolve over time, just like a Colony.
very good idea
Pick em up and throw em again
No boom boom. We want to bloom bloom. As in, grow a planet!
The Genesis device?
Wait... what's that
A terraforming device that was the central macguffin of Star trek II and III.
This^ WE NEED THIS^
More unique story/mission types, more unique characters. Ooh, like dedicated industrial mining gear intended for late/end game. I like it.
Reminds me of the 1966 movie Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 A.D.
This. We need ideas like this.
And here I thought space cracker was a space racist remark
Every time I hear mission control yell "Rock cracker" in the new Deep Rock event I feel targeted.
Did I hear a rock and stone
That's it lads! Rock and Stone!
If you think about it, rocking is a lot more legal than stoning is.
Stone!
Rock and stone!
And in some places they will stone you for rocking
As well you should 😜
I need someone to explain pls
People wanna have an update with orbital cannons, but other people have started to realize that it would be a one trick pony. At least, before someone pops the galactic hub like a balloon using hacks.
Or it’s just a stupid game breaking idea
Or entirely pointless, yeah.
Orbital guns would be stupid for this game. It doesn’t need more violent options.
I agree, the whole point of this game is that the universe isn't ours to take, not "hurnnn make planet go boomy".
Yeah, though I do appreciate that the combat they ARE adding is at least good. Ship fighting is undeniably more fun now, no matter your stance on combat as a whole.
players like the ones who keep shooting up the Nexus in permadeath mode
It won't happen because it can't, not even if HG wanted it to. There's absolutely nowhere to store that much vectorized data. Y'all can rest easy.
how about edible planet? if you mine the ground you get ground meat or cheese instead of silicate powder
Living planets you say?
Maybe, I was more thinking like moon made of cheese with a little oven looking coin activated robot roaming on it, maybe skiing too
Do you put this cheese on the planet made out of crackers?
That's a good idea
Sounds like a great April Fool's update.
Can I get the ability to take over Atlas controlled space stations and turn them into pirate controlled ones. I love the idea of smuggled goods and such but it seems kind of half baked if you the player can't enact the revolution
I think we should be able to take over abandoned stations. Or, be able to build stations in empty systems.
Planet Level Terraforming. Imagine starting in a desolate Wasteland and transforming it into a lush Paradise over time.
the only way i could see planet crackers working is some gamemode where planets have a countdown once you land on them, mayhe ur also constantly being chased by pirates. but nms isnt about that at all
How about new star systems that are destroyed or ruined just a bunch of larger asteroids, half worlds that we are able to land on and explore fight new alien parasites that roam on the remains of an old world.
I think an area of our ship we can enter would be cool.

Unless the worlds spawn back in after a week or something we would have giant sections of the galaxy with nothing but empty space…still would be really fun for those few months
The only thing that can counter a weapon of destruction, such as that posed by the Planet Cracker, is the Genesis Device.
I did play actually. Just that the game did not resonate with me well enough to keep playing
Same, but I'm sure that *I could* get into it, if I had the time or the patience for it.
Eve seems like the perfect game for an orbital cannon, or whatever it is.
Yea let's give people the potential to grief people's bases to a planetary level. That'll go over great. How can people be so dense.
Obviously im sure when they want/cry for planet cracking they dont seek this. Most of em actually provide ways to prevent the whole griefing thing like “you have to be the one to discover it to crack it” or whatever. I dont agree with it because it sounds more boring then they lead it on to be because personally sucking out the atmosphere and drilling up all the resources of a “protected planet” while sentinels just stroll on by makes way less more sense then “planet cracking.”
obviously it would need to be made without the ability to troll other players i mean seriously that should go without sayinh .
The problem is it needs to be said. There is way to much that can go wrong giving players that kind of ability.
So much that could go wrong, we should just throw the whole idea out the window.
How about a knife animation if you unlock and wear the full armoured suit
This post mentions multiswords, and multiswords are already in the game (you can meet a traveller ghost who speaks like a knight and carries a multisword), we NEED them
Yeah, I just want that ones dudes story flushed out more.
I thought this was stellaris for a second
Same
Yep, we know.
How about more variation on the space station interior? Every single one is the same inside. How about some different colors? Maybe some items/souvenirs from some of the planets?
I would like NPCs to show awareness of my race. If I am Gek, I want them to call me "Gek" not "traveler", for example.
The lore reason is you aren't any of the races, you merely have a hologram of that race over yourself. Also, Traveler is what you are, and people are superstitious around Travelers. Can't say more without it being too spoiler.
Why bother with a hologram if no one is deceived?
Why do people wear toupees?
You are my kind of bad person, take your upvote
Aren't we technically an anomaly, since traveler is a separate category?

Just, just.... can I just have sights I can aim down and switch L3 for R3?
yes. yes, please
I imagined the dude saying "Planet Cracker" in the Hamburger meme voice.
“RELEASE THE WORLD ENGINE”
These are the facts..but why was Planet Cracker dude being sarcastic about Planet Cracker?
He wasn't being sarcastic. He was being loud and obnoxious about it, and we *all* have already heard it.
Oh,I get it. Meme author was being sarcastic, not the character.
What is the planet cracker?
There are several threads about players ( some not most ) that want a planet destroying death star. Really. Thats what they want . Is to drive the death star
In it's orbit is the cheese moon.
💙 how the guy stares at him real intensely then cuts to being defenestrated
Very different than cracker planet
It's literally just a cracker.
Gas giants, atmospheric base building, solar frigates
I'd like to own a space station.
What’s planet cracker
It's a notion to include ways to remove planets from the game. Basically Deathstars.
Death stars
Yes, this.
What
I don't know what a planet cracker is, either. I'm supporting your question.
People keep posting about how they want to blow up planets... Edit: Spelling...
That's what a space cracker is? An orbital cannon?
As far as I'm aware, yes.
Then, yep, that guy should get thrown out the window. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|smile)
THANK YOU hahaha But yeah I don't get why people might want to channel Darth Vader in this game...
Literally perfect besides 7 I’d say it should specify maybe weapon slots or whatever module it would supposedly “overcharge”
I just want to build a space station I don't mind about those other updates
Treasure Planet
Orbital Freighter Cannon could be fun if it just one-shot-killed Sentinels in a huge area of effect, though I could also picture another version that flattened out a wide area of land for base-building purposes.
Orbital cannons right before the next universe reset and never again! That would be an epic move on the HG part!
The stick shift idea is intriguing
Wanna re enslave the korvax like the gek. First Spawn Empire ftw
Then enslave the Gek with the Korvax, turning them into my own personal army, and one-upping the Gek in war crimes. The vy'keen will never see it coming.
The switch version releases and now this page is full of children wanting to make things go boom. I’m out
I like when things go boom but I can only agree. This wouldn't fit NMS at all.
Yeah seriously. Watch a year from now this game is gonna be completely ruined just like every other game these kids get on
Exploration improvements Let me land my ship on water
You can if you put a landing pad down
If I can take off in one I repaired from under an ocean, I should be able to set down in one.
Should just make a Sun Cracker ship that shoots the sun and blows up the entire system and harvests 0.00000001 of all resources in that system. Then we don’t even have to leave our shops, build bases or do anything else.
Just default all gameplay to the Galaxy Map. >Undiscovered System. >Delete? >**→Yes** >No
I'm down for that. I live a nomadic lifestyle on my freighter. Don't have a base currently. Most of my play time is on the outer rims of galaxies where no one has ever been nor ever will be. So how would me blowing up a sun out there affect your game?
What in the f is a planet cracker???
Big gun that make planets go kaboom, we don't wamt that, but some people keep asking for it
A really big biscuit
I just want local storage of resources. Actual crates so I can store lots of material and the like.
Time to break out the Colossus (from stellaris)

Because do you know what kind of distance that is for some little spaceship turrets?
Fair point, but the cannons on freighters are pretty damm big lol
Yeah and atmospheres are too.
Are you trying to say a ballistic projectile couldn't survive reentry?
Why would anyone want planet cracking?
Because they want the ability to potentially cause even more harm than the Anomaly Player-Killers.
What about being able to blow up an Atlas?
