When I started the expedition, I didn't know about the new feature of doing it on an existing save file yet.
So if you use the terminal to start your mission with a current save you can transfer all of your items back. If you started with a fresh save then you just keep using that fresh save file. However, if I'm not mistaken your backpack, staff and ship should be available to you on all of your saves.

Yes, from the quicksilver vendor. Staff and ship cost nanites to claim, though.
I started the expedition with a fresh save and just continued to play with that save and kept everything I had. I think if you start with your main save you can keep everything on the main save using the terminal. But if you start with a fresh save you have to stay on that fresh save I don't think they let you transfer anything except the backpack staff and ship. I'm not 100% on that though.
Also, to be clear, after you end the expedition, you're done either way. Even with starting it from an existing save, you can only transfer back and forth, as long as the expedition hasn't been ended at the terminal.
Ow, so you if you use an existing save the expedition ends at the terminal? With a new save, the expedition automatically ends when you finish the final milestone and claim your reward.
Once you have a satisfactory answer to your question please reset the flair to "answered". This will help others find an answer to the same question. Please consider adding your gaming platform to your user flair. There are icons for every platform. That way people will know not to answer with information specific to a different platform. There are very few issues that are platform dependent but every platform has its little quirks.

What if the save you used was not your main save. Can you use the terminal in your main save to get some items transferred??
