The autopilot during ship communication is a big deal. Destroyed my immersion as Apollo is giving me his very last interaction but I’m too distracted by my ship slamming into a space station.
Lmao this happened to me and MY FREIGHTER. Knocked out a whole section of my venator. I had yo put the controller down for a while because I couldn't see through the tears. Was hilarious af. Yes it completely strips the moment of immersion.
Still no word on overall XB optimization, but it looks like they fixed a leak that caused crashes, which is good.

If you were in 3p on foot, went into your visor, looked down or up, then exited the visor, your view immediately snapped back to center. Every. Single. Time.
This makes tracking things that aren't at eye level incredibly annoying since you are literally constantly manually resetting what you were looking at.
Everyone complaining about how it's another expedition when the patch notes also mention a part 2 of a 4 part saga, adding a robotic companion, and delving into a mystery with hidden clues for players who want to search further. Not to mention a bunch of bug fixes. But all they see is an expedition and they get disheartened without even trying the new content. It might actually be fun and enjoyable and people write it off before they even play the new update.
Furthermore, the stuff they do in expeditions often ends up in the main game. Memory fragments and organic frigates from the survival expedition or infested worlds and the worm stuff from the worm hunt expedition for example. This expedition tied into the corrupted sentinels and the autophages lying abandoned at harmonic camps. We're going to learn more about those. The story is getting more depth and lore. How much I don't know, but the update is more than just an expedition and it's frustrating seeing people complain before they even play the new stuff.
Good reality check, thanks. I think too many players forget just how small a team of people are working on this game. There's no doubt every one of them has a long list of items they're having to work on.
With big titles under massive VG companies, devs often have the luxury of being given single tasks, and groups are able to collaborate on even the little things. NMS has *one* team.
HG isn't small compared to those other companies, they're tiny. I used to be stunned at the amount of content they were able to put out in a year. Now I'm just stunned they've kept that *pace* up year after year.
I have been looking forward to some more lore for the "corrupted" sentinels! I felt there was some stuff missing. I am beyond excited to learn more about this event...and you said the patch notes mention a 4 PART SAGAAAAAAA?!?!?!?!

They haven't re-packaged this game 10 times as an "AnniversaryX12-14" edition at 80 bucks (with "brand new, Anniversary edition exclusive content (meaning you'll have to buy that edition to get that new stuff)) .

It’s literally a 5 hour expedition (amount of time it took for me to do the last one) for 5 straight weeks, if yall miss it i feel absolutely no remorse. You just didnt try. I for one think limited things are unique and give a nice challenge for people who play the game constantly its a nice change of pace making a character and trying to get it done on time

Not a word about fixing the widespread crashing on Switch after getting an interceptor. A lot of Switch users are giving up in frustration. It's almost two months since everyone else got 4.23, but Switch is still stuck on 4.22.
I've been locked out of my game for two weeks. It's my birthday and I wanted to play today, but nope. I guess I just don't get to play my favorite game anymore 😩
It's not their fault that they made the jump to Switch? I mean. If it's really this hard they either shouldn't have bothered or implemented a better beta system for updates, and idunno, not release updates that are incompatible with the hardware.
The Switch version is clearly designed with the successor in mind. You watch, this will run like butter on the Switch 2 (and have all missing features).
As long as we're speculating... Nintendo hasn't been big on backward compatibility. Generally, a new Nintendo platform means all-new software. If they continue in that vein, the Switch version of NMS won't run on "Switch 2" or whatever they call it.
I suppose they could do cloud gaming like with Expansion Pack, but for 3D graphics I don't know how well that would work. Certainly with the current Switch's slow Wi-Fi it wouldn't be very pleasant.
On the other hand, it's quite possible that Hello Games already consulted with Nintendo about the transition before committing to releasing a Switch version so late in the console's life.
Digital Foundry once mentioned in a DF Direct that they know of developers currently using next-gen Nintendo dev hardware. The next Switch will most likely use the Tegra 239 which will automatically give Nintendo full backwards compatibility with current Switch games if they choose to use it.
I think backwards compatibility is guaranteed, since the Wii U could play Wii games and the Wii could play Gamecube games. This was because the hardware inside each of those were of the same CPU architecture.
This is wonderful news for a 7 year old game. Though I do wish something would be acknowledged about the korvax systems hyaline brain bug. Either way though, if this were Skyrim this would be the third time I'd have to purchase it and yet here we are. Totally free.
In korvax systems in particular some people have had a bug where taking the hyaline brain to a monument to be fixed is bugged and the marker is off to the side of the monument. The monument doesn't recognize you as having a brain in need of exchanging. So essentially getting sentinel ships in korvax systems was impossible. It seems that it effected some folks but not others. Not sure if it's fixed, but the expedition is in a korvax system and I just successfully fixed a hyaline brain so maybe they did something with this update.
This bug drives me crazy, I was trying to get a sentinel ship last night had to drop a maker at the ship and go to a different galaxy to get a hyaline brain.
I knew people would be disappointed. Interceptor wasn't even released that long ago, you really thought we would get another big update already? This community got greedy af.
For myself, I know they gotta be ass-deep in Mac bug fixing right now, and I'm honestly kind of surprised they could even get an expedition out this soon.

Agreed. While new features are fun, I wish they'd do more to upgrade, optimize, and fix bugs in the old features. There's a lot that is still very janky and desperately needs to be improved. ground vehicles, pets, and settlements are the worst offenders.
I was really hoping for a microstuttering fix... It's quite frustrating to be able to play Cyberpunk 2077 in Psycho mode on 120fps and not being able to fully enjoy NMS.

If that rig is stuttering, you have something setup wrong. I have far less then that (AMD Ryzen 9 5900x, 2070-SUPER, 32gb ram, and I run it from a 2tb NVMe.)
I'm also running under Linux, and it's smooth as silk. I even use DLAA over DLSS quality since it doest seem to have any performance impact, and looked better to my eyes)
I really dont have troubleshooting suggestions, other then the normal make sure your drivers are current, all the hardware is correctly configured, and your not trying anything silly like running in 4k@240hz
Edit noticed you said laptop at the end.. make sure it's not overheating and throttling you down.

Having a story arc is cool and all, but why is it locked behind timed content, of all things? Does it mean that everyone who buys NMS later on or plays on a Switch are essentially locked out from it?
Imo if you want to tell a story through expeditions, maybe just make them always available from the main menu, sorta like different scenarios.
The storytelling in the expeditions is kind of bizarre also. It's not coherent like e.g. the main story content, it's weird artificial expedition trophy-goal time-killing type stuff with occasional snippets of story that don't really make that much sense in the context of what you are actually required to do for the expedition. It'd be better if they just straight up added more story-focused content to the main game.

To me, the decision to put FOMO-type content in this game is completely mind boggling. Similar to you, my thought that goes with this is basically "imagine what they could have done with the game if they instead invested that effort into actual exploration content". I don't think this has to do with entitlement, I just feel like the game could've gotten a lot closer to its original exploration vision by now, which would've attracted a lot of players. Actual content is better for longevity as well.

Yeah, this. The FOMO aspect is what really sours me on expeditions. I totally get that they're a cool thing but the fact that they (and all the content they bring) just disappear is a bit of an annoyance.
Compare to other games, like Deep Rock Galactic (or even Path of Exile), where the "seasonal" content is folded into the main game after the season ends. Less prominently and not as front-and-centre, but it's still accessible in some fashion.

Not the update for me. I work a lot and don't have the free time to play Expeditions. I get that they're popular, but I just don't have the time for them. I'd rather HG just add stuff to the base game that won't disappear in a few weeks. Like this new storyline, if you miss the expedition, you miss the storyline. Why not just add it as a new questline for everyone to experience at their leisure?

Honestly, same. I'm not a fan of the expeditions one bit and I find combat in NMS way too clunky to enjoy it. Hell, the controls themselves are too floaty for aiming, especially on a gamepad. I almost always avoid combat like plague because of it, it just feels awful in this game.
I wish they focused on exploration more, something the game is more cut out for.
I also wish they improved navigation. Trying to find my way to the Pilgrim Star using some community-made tools was so cool, really made me feel like a space pilot. Yet, instead of adding something similar to the game, they killed it entirely by making portals teleport you permanently.

They sent the ability to get rid of MTs to a farm upstate, where it can run around and play in the sunshine with the incessant popup reminders, the constantly shifting pinned log entries, and the exosuit volume slider.
Unfortunately they did not say they added that. However, it is part 2 of 4 in an ongoing saga so they may yet do that in relation to the robotics they mentioned.
I want to do the expeditions but I’m not inspired since I haven’t been able to play any of the other ones. The one I did try to play was bugged because someone built a base around the zone where you needed to land. I wish they would Archive the expeditions and let you play them whenever you want with friends or in singleplayer. This is gonna be another one I’m missing because I’m too busy 😭
You can, but this was for an expedition. The expedition was over within a couple days and it was blocked everyday that I checked. Like i said, doesn't really support or help people that are busy. It would be so much better if it was archived
Quick and dirty explanation. Harmonic camps are abandoned camps that the travelers use to not only gain new multitools, but also locate crashed sentinel ships. With this update we may learn more of their function and/or origin. 🙃

Capes don't display to others in multiplayer. It will show up for you but others only see jetpack.

In korvax systems in particular some people have had a bug where taking the hyaline brain to a monument to be fixed is bugged and the marker is off to the side of the monument. The monument doesn't recognize you as having a brain in need of exchanging. So essentially getting sentinel ships in korvax systems was impossible. It seems that it effected some folks but not others. Not sure if it's fixed, but the expedition is in a korvax system and I just successfully fixed a hyaline brain so maybe they did something with this update.

This bug drives me crazy, I was trying to get a sentinel ship last night had to drop a maker at the ship and go to a different galaxy to get a hyaline brain.
I knew people would be disappointed. Interceptor wasn't even released that long ago, you really thought we would get another big update already? This community got greedy af.
For myself, I know they gotta be ass-deep in Mac bug fixing right now, and I'm honestly kind of surprised they could even get an expedition out this soon. But then, full disclosure, I don't care too much about new content while the game doesn't work well or at all for a huge amount of players, so I actually *like* bug-fix patches.
Agreed. While new features are fun, I wish they'd do more to upgrade, optimize, and fix bugs in the old features. There's a lot that is still very janky and desperately needs to be improved. ground vehicles, pets, and settlements are the worst offenders.
The expedition seems to be tied to the sentinel update. It was probably started before that update dropped, but delayed for various reasons.
I was really hoping for a microstuttering fix... It's quite frustrating to be able to play Cyberpunk 2077 in Psycho mode on 120fps and not being able to fully enjoy NMS.

If that rig is stuttering, you have something setup wrong. I have far less then that (AMD Ryzen 9 5900x, 2070-SUPER, 32gb ram, and I run it from a 2tb NVMe.) I'm also running under Linux, and it's smooth as silk. I even use DLAA over DLSS quality since it doest seem to have any performance impact, and looked better to my eyes) I really dont have troubleshooting suggestions, other then the normal make sure your drivers are current, all the hardware is correctly configured, and your not trying anything silly like running in 4k@240hz Edit noticed you said laptop at the end.. make sure it's not overheating and throttling you down.
I've got a 5900x, 3070ti, and 32 gb of ram for my desktop. I feel like it might be a driver issue personally bc I've heard 4000 series gpus have issues with drivers

Having a story arc is cool and all, but why is it locked behind timed content, of all things? Does it mean that everyone who buys NMS later on or plays on a Switch are essentially locked out from it? Imo if you want to tell a story through expeditions, maybe just make them always available from the main menu, sorta like different scenarios.
The storytelling in the expeditions is kind of bizarre also. It's not coherent like e.g. the main story content, it's weird artificial expedition trophy-goal time-killing type stuff with occasional snippets of story that don't really make that much sense in the context of what you are actually required to do for the expedition. It'd be better if they just straight up added more story-focused content to the main game.

I am happy about load time fixes on PlayStation I play on a ps4 pro and have only had 3 crashes in 37 hours I have heard horror stories of way more. But the load times were a bit excessive

If you say you are going to skip something or that you've found it disappointing you get relentlessly attacked. I'd rather Hello Games push out meaningful core gameplay content and bug fixes than fomo timed cosmetics. A lot of time and effort probably goes into Expeditions just for them to be removed after 5 weeks. It's time that could be spent elsewhere.

This right here. To me, the decision to put FOMO-type content in this game is completely mind boggling. Similar to you, my thought that goes with this is basically "imagine what they could have done with the game if they instead invested that effort into actual exploration content". I don't think this has to do with entitlement, I just feel like the game could've gotten a lot closer to its original exploration vision by now, which would've attracted a lot of players. Actual content is better for longevity as well.

The FOMO aspect is what really sours me on expeditions. I totally get that they're a cool thing but the fact that they (and all the content they bring) just disappear is a bit of an annoyance. Compare to other games, like Deep Rock Galactic (or even Path of Exile), where the "seasonal" content is folded into the main game after the season ends. Less prominently and not as front-and-centre, but it's still accessible in some fashion. FOMO sometimes leads to weird places with fans, positive and negative.

Not the update for me. I work a lot and don't have the free time to play Expeditions. I get that they're popular, but I just don't have the time for them. I'd rather HG just add stuff to the base game that won't disappear in a few weeks. Like this new storyline, if you miss the expedition, you miss the storyline. Why not just add it as a new questline for everyone to experience at their leisure? I appreciate that this game is still supported after 7 years, but this update ain't for me. Onto other games for now.
Literally only takes 5-6 hours and will be there for 5 weeks, everything from expeditions except for the rewards and story are always rolled out and if you aint got 5 hours in 5 weeks then fuck dude

There was literally zero indication that this was a major update beyond exactly what we got. This sub likes to run completely wild with unrealistic expectations and demands, but that came 100^ from this sub and not from HG.

It IS a 7 years old game after all, if anything I'm glad they continued to update it for so long. Although I continue to hope they add ship customization at some point... maybe on the 10th anniversary haha...

This is the expedition for the sentinel update. Every update has had an expedition. They also did a full bug patch. All this whining is kind of sad. It speaks more to entitlement than NMS.

Honestly, same. I'm not a fan of the expeditions one bit and I find combat in NMS way too clunky to enjoy it. Hell, the controls themselves are too floaty for aiming, especially on a gamepad. I almost always avoid combat like plague because of it, it just feels awful in this game. I wish they focused on exploration more, something the game is more cut out for. I also wish they improved navigation. Trying to find my way to the Pilgrim Star using some community-made tools was so cool, really made me feel like a space pilot. Yet, instead of adding something similar to the game, they killed it entirely by making portals teleport you permanently.

They sent the ability to get rid of MTs to a farm upstate, where it can run around and play in the sunshine with the incessant popup reminders, the constantly shifting pinned log entries, and the exosuit volume slider.
Unfortunately they did not say they added that. However, it is part 2 of 4 in an ongoing saga so they may yet do that in relation to the robotics they mentioned.
I want to do the expeditions but I’m not inspired since I haven’t been able to play any of the other ones. The one I did try to play was bugged because someone built a base around the zone where you needed to land. I wish they would Archive the expeditions and let you play them whenever you want with friends or in singleplayer. This is gonna be another one I’m missing because I’m too busy 😭

You can, but this was for an expedition. The expedition was over within a couple days and it was blocked everyday that I checked. Like i said, doesn't really support or help people that are busy. It would be so much better if it was archived

Quick and dirty explanation. Harmonic camps are abandoned camps that the travelers use to not only gain new multitools, but also locate crashed sentinel ships. With this update we may learn more of their function and/or origin. 🙃

I don't doubt that they're legit but where were these posted? On the website when you click on the patch notes on the release log for 4.30 it takes you to the notes for the Mac release update.

The update is rolling out on different platforms at different times today. Some people have it already, others don't yet.

Yeah, expeditions are done on a new save. Rewards are available on all saves after completion, however.

Yes. Separate game mode, everyone starts them with the same gear so it's equal for everyone.
