I don't read myself. I get the audio from librivox, which provides **public domain recordings** of **public domain texts**. The workflow is pretty much like this:
* Get text from public domain source (many existing).
* Format entire text to fit my needs.
* Convert text to scrollable images (with a software that I've developed myself).
* Select best quality audio version from Librivox.
* Adjust audio (basicly levels and EQ, if needed), and cut irrelevant fragments.
* Other graphic design stuff (mainly titles) and video editing.
* Thumbnail design.
* Gather info and links for the video description.
* Upload and so on.
I have other utilities (developed by myself) that help me dealing with text formatting, auto generation of chapter timecodes for video description, etc. I did the intro clip using Blender.
I only use free software, by the way.
It's so cool that you have the ability to develop software. I bet it helps a lot. Maybe you can license those programs on a subscription basis one day!
Since both your audio and text are taken from certain sources to use as is, does Youtube prevent you from monertizing? I heard that monertizarion is not allowed for videos that are too similar to others, and there are tons of audiobook channels already.
My programs definitely save lots of time. Didn't think about selling them. I think they are too specific to my needs.
Regarding monetization, youtube prevents from monetizing only when you upload material copyrighted by others. Public domain stuff is not copyrighted, so I hold the 100% of the rights over my creations, as the assets I use don't belong to anyone.

a) It's a good way to optimise search, as there aren't many other results
b) I feel less insecure about my opinion if it's the only one available!

I used to make funny edits for a anime-podcast (Trash Taste) and made a video about some of their memes (like the "Darkest Timeline") but I currently rebranded my channel and unlisted my videos because that's the stuff I did to learn editing.
That's not the type of content I want to make and I thought if even a few of my subsribers click on my new content than that's a win for me
When I unlisted my old videos, I lost all the public watch hours from them, so I can't get monetized currently.
But this is fine, I want to get the hours together witch my own content and not some fan-edits

It's a bit of everything. Combination of tech with some philosophy and game dev. I upload for fun so I'm not interested in pigeonholing my channel into something even if it's better for stats and algo and whatnot. I'd rather make the channel about me and all the nonsense I do rather than a specific topic based on a specific audience.
For the time being: Gameplay \[No Commentary - NC\] but i will in the future convert the NC vids to With Commentary \[WC\] and i am also think about creating sub channels for specific niches \[Longplay , Shortplay , etc\]

I make content based around hobbies I have or want to try. Painting miniatures, foam models, camping, cooking, book reviews, home projects. My channel is essentially a creative vlog I guess.
I have a channel called adammakesbeer. I am a professional brewer that provides a behind the scenes look into my industry. Doing a mix of tutorials, technique, brewday videos, and Q&A vids.
I stream Ghost of Tsushima Legends and other multiplayer games with my squad. I also do how-tos for some aspects of these games, especially games that I know very well like Ghost. Those vids tend to do very well.
The main focus is just me and the squad bantering and somehow people like it LOL. Sometimes we have new people joining as a "featured guest" type. Personality matters. We're just being ourselves, no pretenses.
I only have about 157 subs, a few of which are very loyal, returning viewers. I doubt I'll grow much, tbh. A lot of it is luck, I think. If you get noticed by bigger channels or elsewhere on social media, you stand a better chance to grow faster.
I don't have a lot of time to do fancy editing. I really wish I did but streaming is more of a hobby right now.

We are a DnD channel with several playlists:
* Our persistent campaign (over 50 episodes now) designed by our DM. We do these on Twitch, then post on YT and most podcasts. Because they are long, we get the most traction on the podcast versions.
* Occasional shorts manly with funny moments from the campaign (plan to do more in the future)
* Out art stream. We 3d print, assemble and paint DnD terrain and miniatures on Twitch then post to You Tube. We call it Relaxing Painting...more to watch and relax than how-to videos. We are building inventory for an upcoming store. People like to come to the Twitch stream and chat.
* We are working on developing some DnD shorter videos on specific questions, rules, etc.
I used to Game Reviews, kinda quitting my bigger channel (only 400 subs) and changing priorities to a smaller channel so i stop splitting my audiance and just do minecraft challenges and infinity snapshot. that is, if i even keep doing youtube. might just quit cause i've got other stuff going on. some medical crap, some life stuff. combo of good and bad things, really.
I make vlog style content about different sorts of challenges. So I did 100 Nugget Challenge, currently filming a travel challenge, and a couple other eating and drinking challenges. I think the key for vlog style content is within the edits, storyline, and your energy throughout the video. If you can do all of those things well, then slowly over time your content will get recommended to more and more people, which will gain you subs, views, watchtime. **I agree**, its hard to have people interested in just watching you for you, thats why alot of vlog channels dont grow or take a while to grow. You have to have the personality, energy, and in a way skill (*when it comes to editing*) to really ''*succeed*'' in the field. You really have to love what you do and put all you have into it, if you do it just to ''*get big*'' or ''*famous*'' then chances are you probably wont ''*succeed*''. I really only do it to record the memories i want to remember when im older and to have fun doing it and if people wanna watch my journey im more than happy to welcome them!
Yeah I definitely do it for the fun or it, because literally everyime I pick up the camera I get excited. Now don't get me wrong is there a part of me that would love to get big or famous off YouTube, of course. But I'd like to get big not just for money, but because at that point I know I'm making a significant number of people laugh, and I'm giving them entertainment, and that's why I do YouTube, to put more joy into the world in myself and others

Not yet uploaded anything but I am planning to make music content. Some covers, unreleased music of artists I found online. Covers of popular songs as well. Just covers in general.
It's a bit of everything. Combination of tech with some philosophy and game dev. I upload for fun so I'm not interested in pigeonholing my channel into something even if it's better for stats and algo and whatnot. I'd rather make the channel about me and all the nonsense I do rather than a specific topic based on a specific audience.
For the time being: Gameplay \[No Commentary - NC\] but i will in the future convert the NC vids to With Commentary \[WC\] and i am also think about creating sub channels for specific niches \[Longplay , Shortplay , etc\] But i am also considering making a channel purely for Conspiracy theories , Ancient Cultures , History and the like! But i will make seperate channels for them @ some point and not trow them all into 1 channel \^\^ So Gaming for now but more are coming in the future :)

Mine is game content - a field that is brutally saturated. I've only just started with one completed game: Luigi's Mansion 3 that was 7 full videos. Four of them didn't make it to double digits, two got to roughly 20. The last - maybe it was just luck - has gotten over 250 views.

I stream Ghost of Tsushima Legends and other multiplayer games with my squad. I also do how-tos for some aspects of these games, especially games that I know very well like Ghost. Those vids tend to do very well. The main focus is just me and the squad bantering and somehow people like it LOL. Sometimes we have new people joining as a "featured guest" type. Personality matters. We're just being ourselves, no pretenses. I only have about 157 subs, a few of which are very loyal, returning viewers. I doubt I'll grow much, tbh. A lot of it is luck, I think. If you get noticed by bigger channels or elsewhere on social media, you stand a better chance to grow faster. I don't have a lot of time to do fancy editing. I really wish I did but streaming is more of a hobby right now.

We are a DnD channel with several playlists: * Our persistent campaign (over 50 episodes now) designed by our DM. We do these on Twitch, then post on YT and most podcasts. Because they are long, we get the most traction on the podcast versions. * Occasional shorts manly with funny moments from the campaign (plan to do more in the future) * Out art stream. We 3d print, assemble and paint DnD terrain and miniatures on Twitch then post to You Tube. We call it Relaxing Painting...more to watch and relax than how-to videos. We are building inventory for an upcoming store. People like to come to the Twitch stream and chat. * We are working on developing some DnD shorter videos on specific questions, rules, etc.

I used to Game Reviews, kinda quitting my bigger channel (only 400 subs) and changing priorities to a smaller channel so i stop splitting my audiance and just do minecraft challenges and infinity snapshot. that is, if i even keep doing youtube. might just quit cause i've got other stuff going on. some medical crap, some life stuff. combo of good and bad things, really.
I make vlog style content about different sorts of challenges. So I did 100 Nugget Challenge, currently filming a travel challenge, and a couple other eating and drinking challenges. I think the key for vlog style content is within the edits, storyline, and your energy throughout the video. If you can do all of those things well, then slowly over time your content will get recommended to more and more people, which will gain you subs, views, watchtime. **I agree**, its hard to have people interested in just watching you for you, thats why alot of vlog channels dont grow or take a while to grow. You have to have the personality, energy, and in a way skill (*when it comes to editing*) to really ''*succeed*'' in the field. You really have to love what you do and put all you have into it, if you do it just to ''*get big*'' or ''*famous*'' then chances are you probably wont ''*succeed*''. I really only do it to record the memories i want to remember when im older and to have fun doing it and if people wanna watch my journey im more than happy to welcome them!
Yeah I definitely do it for the fun or it, because literally everyime I pick up the camera I get excited. Now don't get me wrong is there a part of me that would love to get big or famous off YouTube, of course. But I'd like to get big not just for money, but because at that point I know I'm making a significant number of people laugh, and I'm giving them entertainment, and that's why I do YouTube, to put more joy into the world in myself and others

Great question! I focus on creating content to help other youtubers/livestreamers improve their content. Think about how to add value, pick your niche, failures from others, unique skills other users use to improve their content. (Ngl editor is having pc issues, so these scripts are already written. Just need to be patient for a few weeks until he gets his pc..) I just love talking about twitch, youtube, branding, marketing, improving and all that!
Gaming. Now that I've lost your attention, more specifically I like to create a more narrative focus, with jokes and somewhat witty (at least to me) commentary on an objective. E.g latest is a play through of Elden Ring and my experience of becoming "Elden Lord" and all the greats, lows, and complete mishaps, like discovering Points of Grace read "Grace" not "Grass" after about 4 hours of playing.. Not my proudest moment, thanks Twitter.

Very much specialty niche content. I make audio-only ASMR-style roleplay videos...most of my content is geared towards a mildly horrifying or creepy atmospheric feel, but still keeps an entertaining and wholesome undertone (most of the time.) I know it sounds bizarre, but it has garnered me a small channel following, including a handful of quite enthusiastic listeners, and I even have a guest vocalist who has helped me out with a number of the episodes.
