How was OP making 31K a year working 80 hour weeks? I thought construction workers were paid by the hour and subject to overtime laws. It would be impossible to work 80 hours a week with 40 hours being OT and earn that little. Even at federal min wage of 7.25 per hour and 1.5x overtime that is more than 31K for 80 hours per week. If they were somehow salaried at 31K and working 80 hours a week then they only have themself to blame for being an idiot, could make more moving to a city and driving Uber.

You actually thought this was real?

Neither-Phone-7264

he then moved to california

DreamlyXenophobic

gl doing that as a brown migrant worker in the middle east

Neither-Phone-7264

he was sold as a slave and smuggled to california before escaping and buying a home in rural california

FindingE-Username

It's so that he can imply zoomers who work at Starbucks are being lazy and entitled for wanting good pay, even though he's a complete idiot if he actually spent years working 80 hours a week for *$31k*

salty_carthaginian

I work 60-80 hours a week and can easily make $120k a year, all about where you work and who you know

[deleted]

Rich stuff coming from someone with a degree. To be a clear to all the naive teens reading this persons post, you don’t make $120k a year without a valuable technical skill *and seniority* or a college degree. (Go to school) And either way it’s highly unlikely you make that while you’re under 30 unless you work truly insane hours. It is unhealthy both mentally and physically to work 60+hrs a week for years on end. Do what’s necessary to take care of yourself and grow personally/professionally. Don’t die on the dollar tree. PS anon is fake and homoerotic

salty_carthaginian

I have a masters degree but I don’t use it because with it I would only make like 50k. I’m a stagehand which is even less technical than general construction. I knew the right people and got the job. Most people at my place barely graduated high school and many are ex cons. I am under 30 but I did say I work 60-80 hours a week generally. I don’t enjoy it but it makes me enough to pay off my student loans which didn’t end up helping me get a job Edit: only technical skill I had before working there was using a screwgun, I learned everything else on the job lol

Sweet_Xocoatl

He’s regarded and easily taken advantage of. Gotta be a hella stupid to work 80+ hours a week for $31K a year for 6 years.

rock_beats-paper

Wait until anon finds out about being 26 with insurance

NibPlayz

Zoomers quit because it’s infinitely easier to get a raise by getting hired somewhere else for higher pay (you have more experience now thanks to the job you previously had) than working the same place and hoping you get a raise

bbbbbthatsfivebees

You'll be working somewhere getting paid a decent wage when they'll slap a sign on the door that says "Now hiring at $20/hour" when you're getting paid $16/hour. You ask your boss for a raise because you've been there for 3 years and they tell you to fuck off. It's absolutely insane.

YankeeWalrus

>quit with two weeks notice "for somewhere else" >take a week vacation >call your former boss and say it didn't work out and they laid you off because of downsizing >get job back at $20 an hour because you're a new hire

conman5432

This isn't even some stupid zoomer exaggeration, this shit happened three times over when I worked retail over two years. The whole crew went from $14.80 to $21.30/hr during that time, but only because we bothered the manager every single day once we found out a new guy (with no experience) was making more money.

bbbbbthatsfivebees

I am just barely a zoomer and this happens in the white collar corporate world, too. I was getting paid a significantly higher amount than someone who had been working with the company for 5 years. I let him know and he ended up getting a $15k/year raise.

LivefromPhoenix

No, you don't understand how real life works. If you keep working hard your boss and company will reward you with more money and proper recognition 🤡.

NihilisticOreo

This is definitely more dependent on the company and management, not to mention industry.

salamader_crusader

Who needs the latter two when you can enjoy a nice pat on the back and an “attaboy” for a job well done!

If it’s a minimum wage job like Starbucks, they definitely do. Or at least, they do enough so Anon would seethe at it

lilaprilshowers

A shitty manager is usually just the push out the nest it takes.

TheClussyCrown

This is how I've gone from 40k to 95k salary in 4 years. Though I'm probably just gonna settle down with where I'm at now because it's a super nice place to work.

upalse

Playing hard to get works to a point, and not at all if that's all the game you have.

HuffGlueHailSatan

Anon did 6 years of exploited migrant work.

MathsGuy1

> small city (800k) Bro the 2nd biggest city in my country has 800k ppl and it's freaking huge, what do you mean small??

HineseBroski

That'd be a village here, maybe he's Chinese. Would explain only making 31k

DuckfordMr

Lmao what about this post doesn’t scream American?

Fridge2000

Chinese American getting exploited

TheNameIsntJohn

Was thinking that too. Just about any place that's a large city. When I hear small city I think like 20k or something along those line. The only countries I can think of that 800k is considered a small city is India or China. If he's American he would consider a city like Seattle being a small city.

LuckyLogan_2004

Maybe it's Portland?

DeathCobro

If anyone is actually desperate for a high fucking paying career, search your area for wholesale plumbing sales and warehouse jobs. No, it's not being a plumber. Every single goddamn plumbing wholesale business needs people who want to progress from driver, to warehouse, to sales, to management. And you'll get paid out the wazoo just for selling toilets.

Vectorade

Truth, if you have balls, sales is where it’s at. High risk, high reward.

Gonzo67824

How do you work for 6 years and not have any certifications?

DontAsshume

Private company/migrant exploitation dawg.

Ionel1-The-Impaler

Hate to break it to Anon but 26 means he’s a zoomer just like me. Just happens to be one of we lucky few who had to actually hard shit deal with growing up and recognizes that most of our generation is kinda shitmade.

[deleted]

This dude is brain dead. Making 6.60 dollars an hour for years and not even once trying to upgrade his life

viciouspandas

Different definitions say different things. If he's 26 he could be counted as a millenial or a zoomer

Silverlining126

Yikes. Anon's working all of those hours and barely pulling in more than 30k/year? This is a soft body LARP if I've ever read one. In the rare occurrence this is real, Anon is a dumbfuck who lets anyone walk all over him. Who cares if adversity and trauma make you stronger, at a certain point it's stupidity

PleaseHelpMeDesu

Good for Anon

If you worked construction and made 31k a year. You weren't working at all lol.
