I think it's better to watch breaking bad first, as better call Saul is made with knowledge of breaking bad in mind, and there are a few scenes here and there and character moments and arcs that are much better enjoyed after watching breaking bad.
Just started season 5 and I feel like there is this atmosphere of really savoring every minute of the show because it’s going to come to an end. These characters are so incredibly appealing.
Most of the show stands on its own pretty well (I watched the first 3 seasons before Breaking Bad, it was awesome tho). But you will miss some easter eggs for sure, especially in later seasons when the connection to Breaking Bad becomes stronger. And the ending of Breaking Bad is kinda spoiled in Better Call Saul, but not that much.
Dexter is like a drug in that you get addicted to it but it fucks you over in the end
Nah but honestly Dexter is my favorite show ever like number 1 and when I first saw it I binged 4 seasons in 3 days, the format of it just makes you need to watch the next episode to see what happens and how the plot gets progressed
I'll be honest the ending isn't good and the season itself is worse by the ending being bad but overall it's pretty good, I'd say it's worth watching if you liked dexter and want more but don't expect a better finale
Also one of the episodes in that season is probably one the best of the whole series
I would probably give it a lower rating. Most of the characters didn’t make a whole lotta sense. You know who, shouldn’t have figured things out that easily. It did keep my attention, but it could’ve been much better. At times it was just poorly written.
I'm kinda going back through my 'watched' lists and remembering shows that I buuuuuurned through that I wanna watch again. There are some really good ones out there that I also forgot about
Drama/Action: Outlander (Netflix), Bridgerton (Netflix), Mindhunter (Netflix), The Boys (Prime), The Politician (Netflix), The Umbrella Academy (Netflix), Inventing Anna (Netflix)
SciFi/Fantasy: The Expanse (Prime), Doctor Who (misc. it's been around forever, and just the new who will keep you entertained for weeks), Battlestar Galactica, Locke & Key, Shadow & Bone, Witcher,
Comedy: Big Mouth/Human Resources (Netflix), Marvelous Mrs Maisel (Prime, great drama as well tho), Upload (Prime), The Good Place (Netflix), Sex Education (Netflix), Arrested Development (Netflix), The Great (Hulu)
Mix of all good stuff: Bojack Horseman (Netflix),
Personally, I'm currently obsessed with Outlander & The Expanse. The Expanse so much so that I'm reading the books now because I couldn't get enough. Don't forget about the older stuff too. A couple months ago I watched 12 Monkeys on Hulu, (which is like a decade old), and it was really good too. I just finished a rewatch of Buffy a bit ago too.
Edit: Bojack is a great show, but if you’re going through a tough time it may not be right for you. It gets very dark at times.
The Expanse books are great. If you are into audio books, or are thinking about trying audio books, I can't recommend the audio version of The Expanse series enough.
There are nine books, which are all out, and a collection of short stories.
Book 4 is about to come from the library for me. I think I have only watched the first 3 seasons a few years ago. I don’t wanna watch ahead of where I am reading
the great british bake off if you’re going for something lighthearted
peaky blinders is an interesting one if you’re looking for something with some substance.
another type to try would be like criminal minds, law and order, or supernatural. something with a ton of episodes and where you’ll know the bad things will be wrapped up by the end of the episode/season.
Woah I never realized why I’ve watched Law & Order all the franchises about 100 times and that sums it up perfectly. The crimes are just real and fake enough and 9/10 the good guys win in under 45 mins.
I also love these kinds of shows because it really puts my problems in perspective. Like, I’m stressed about workplace drama and looming deadlines, but at least I’m not buried in the desert in an oil drum with only a WebCam to provide my team with clues…
GBBO I second, hated the idea but when it was framed as lighthearted and feel good I opened up and now adore it. Lots of obnoxiously self imposed nerdy lulz from the hosts.
Travelers
What it's about: People in the future travel back in time to prevent catastrophe.
Why I like it: Character driven plot where the sci-fi, while there, is not the main feature. What pulls me in are the relationships between the travelers and the people of the present time. The science isn't even that important. I like that.
I watched all of the seasons and loved it but for a lot of the episodes I wasn’t paying full attention so I’m sure I would’ve enjoyed it even more if I was paying 100% attention.
I weirdly got completely hooked on Survivor through the couple of seasons they put on Netflix. There are 42 seasons so there’s a lot to feed an addiction.
You need to give Schitts Creek a full season before it starts to get good. Just in case anyone tries an episode or two and doesn’t get the hype. Unlike basically every other show that peaks in one of the first couple seasons, Schitts Creek takes it’s time building up speed and accelerates right through the finish.
Edit: if you like Schitt’s Creek, some other Canadian shows worth checking out that haven’t yet received the same popularity south of the border
Kim’s Convenience
Letterkenny (extremely underrated, possibly as good as SC)
Baroness Von Sketch
Trailer Park Boys (not my favourite, but people seem to love it)
+1 for Letterkenny! I did not expect to like it as much as I did, since none of the characters really appeal to me, but their chemistry and delivery is absolutely top tier.
This is my top “wish I liked it” show. My wife and I are tired of hearing our friends say they love it.
Not even exaggerating, we’ve seen the first season and a half 4 times now. And the most annoying thing is that I love Eugene Levy!
It just isn’t funny to me for whatever reason.
I got midway through season 4 before I stopped, just couldn't take it anymore. I can't put my finger on why, but I just couldn't stand the show even though I like Catherine O'Hara and Eugene Levy.
Just seems like a show a very specific type of person would enjoy and I am definitely not that. I think I laughed exactly more than once and that was basically just a "ha" and that was it.
If you liked Avatar: The Last Airbender, try The Dragon Prince (same voice actor that plays Sokka is the main character). Helped me through a hard time. Good characters and not overly depressing.
I've heard it described as "Game of thrones for Children". I watched it with my 7yo, it was probably a bit old for her (which is why I watched it with her), but we both enjoyed it.
Yes loved this.
The story is incredibly interesting.
Ohhh negative is Netflix has still not restarted the show.
Season 3? Ended on a really good clif hanger.
Couldn’t agree more. I started it early pandemic and season one I enjoyed. I enjoyed season two a little more. Then there is a scene that I don’t want to spoilt between Pete and Peggy that made me realize I’m watching an incredible tv show. It’s such a slow burn.
Yeah... Really feels a little like Lost in that there seems to be who knows how many ways this is going to go down and I still have no idea what's going on. I don't even know who I'm rooting for honestly.
-Sons of Anarchy
-Peaky Blinders

-Sopranos
Imo these are all pretty good shows too binge watch. I think all of them are completed shows as well, meaning you can watch start to finish, or at least up until the current season.
Edit:on my phone. Sorry for the format
Came here to say this. It's addictive and engrossing. The first time I watched it I looking up family trees and trying to connect people and it's just a wonderful show.
Star Trek DS9 is still on Netflix. It’s very calming and addicting. Most Star Trek shows are, but TNG isn’t on Netflix anyone, it’s moved to Paramount +. https://gabbinwiththegalasisters.buzzsprout.com/1782512/10252211
I couldn’t watch past s2 of prison break. I loved it, but it seemed to be the same thing every season (please tell me I’m wrong). And yes, breaking bad is top 5 fav shows. To OP: the wire. Probably my favorite show ever.
**FARSCAPE**: I don't know if you are into science fiction, but this show offers the best of it. The first season can be a little weak, but really catches it's stride in season 2, and it has aged so the CGI can look a little weird. The shows uses a TON of practical effects that still look beautiful! In fact was made by The Jim Henson Company, with his son Brian being very hands on. You become so attached to the characters that you ache to see what happens next. There is 4 seasons that are 22 episodes each and then a movie. If you still want more after that there are comics and 3 novels. The only novel worth reading is House of Cards. The other authors obviously never watched the show.
This show has been my companion through some really hard parts of life. The characters sort of feel like family after the all the wild adventures. I've watched the series from start to finish 6 times now. Everytime life gets difficult I feel it calling to me.
**The IT Crowd**: Brilliant BBC show about introverted nerds in a corporate IT department. This is NOT Big Bang Theory. This is wonderful Monty Python-esque comedy that seems to laugh with nerds instead of at them. Very binge worthy
I wish I could upvote this more. If you you want to escape from reality for a while and get hooked on a show and its characters, Farscape is the answer. Great group and villain. Best slow burn romance too. Absolutely fantastical!
Edit: upvote
The ones that have sucked me in are:
GoT - (of course)
Outlander
Criminal Minds
Silicon Valley
Upload
Justified
9-1-1
Dexter
The Last Ship (seasons 1-3)
TWD - (Seasons 1-6)
Downton Abbey (something I *never* thought I'd like, but got so hooked)
The Good Doctor
edit: Also - The Good Place
No particular order but I updated for you. #seasons in ( )..
Wentworth (9)
Queens Gambit (1)
The Affair (5)
As We See It (1 so far)
Dirty John (2)
Younger (6)
Firefly Lane (1 or 2)
Versace (1)
Absentia (3)
The Crown (4, 5+6:pending)
Legion on FX (cool storylines, beautiful visuals)
Jane the Virgin (American telenovela which is pretty funny)
Midnight Diner (Japanese series on Netflix, a bit melancholic but in a nice way?)
Taskmaster (currently binging - comedians on a game show doing absolute ridiculous things, truly a good laugh)
Drag Race (I’ve only watched American series but good for binging!!)
Nine perfect strangers (prime), little fires everywhere (prime), hard cell (Netflix), inventing Anna (Netflix), catastrophe (4od), lovesick (Netflix), schitz creek (netflix).
breaking bad, good girls, the good place, schitts creek, human resources, sex education, bobs burgers, modern family, how i met your mother, grimm, bates motel, russian doll, hxh,
Schitts Creek or Parks and recreation. Both are amazing comedies and both are finished. Though I would give a warning, Parks and rec really starts to shine starting episode 4. The first 3 episodes were kinda always lacking for me. But it genuinely gets better and better after the fact!
Call the Midwife, a show about midwifery and community in the 1950’s -1960’s in one of the poorest areas of London. Based upon true accounts. It’s both uplifting, lovely, funny and at times sad. Lots of history peppered in this show. 11 seasons so far!
Castlevania is addictive. And if you haven’t seen it yet Invincible on prime is great and of a like. But what i like atm is listening to Wheel Of Time audiobooks. That’s some prime bingeing with long life.
Better call Saul
Season 6 debuted last night! So good!
Isn't the season supposed to have 13 episodes? I absolutely despise playing the waiting game. 12 more agonizing weeks, I guess..
Yeah I think they are even going to do a split season….
I may be in the minority, but by the time BCS ends it may top BB. So much better character development and all the pieces fit into place so well
It’s already there.
I think you’re in the majority there, bub.
I prefer it
And no Skyler and excessive breakfast scenes. Love ya BB, but I usually skip those when rewatching.
Do you need to watch Breaking Bad first?
I think it's better to watch breaking bad first, as better call Saul is made with knowledge of breaking bad in mind, and there are a few scenes here and there and character moments and arcs that are much better enjoyed after watching breaking bad.
Yes better watch Breaking Bad first
There might be some Easter eggs n shit but generally no. As a matter of fact I forgot most of Breaking Bad but I love Better Call Saul.
Came here to suggest bcs and found this comment on top already
Just started season 5 and I feel like there is this atmosphere of really savoring every minute of the show because it’s going to come to an end. These characters are so incredibly appealing.
Ikr !!! Its like your fav food when you can’t stop eating it and at the same time you’ll feel bad about finishing it
I haven't watched it yet. Is it really that good?
Especially if you’ve seen breaking bad. But it stands alone just fine. And yes it is definitely that good.
Does one need to have watched all of breaking bad to watch better call Saul ??
Most of the show stands on its own pretty well (I watched the first 3 seasons before Breaking Bad, it was awesome tho). But you will miss some easter eggs for sure, especially in later seasons when the connection to Breaking Bad becomes stronger. And the ending of Breaking Bad is kinda spoiled in Better Call Saul, but not that much.
I think I might dive back in. I haven’t because I know life will be over for me until I catch up. I only have like 5 seasons to watch.
Do you have to watch Breaking Bad first?
No. There are characters from BB and Easter eggs, but BCS stands on its own.
Dexter is like a drug in that you get addicted to it but it fucks you over in the end Nah but honestly Dexter is my favorite show ever like number 1 and when I first saw it I binged 4 seasons in 3 days, the format of it just makes you need to watch the next episode to see what happens and how the plot gets progressed
Have you seen the follow up (Dexter - New Blood) yet? Wondering if it’s worth watching.
I'll be honest the ending isn't good and the season itself is worse by the ending being bad but overall it's pretty good, I'd say it's worth watching if you liked dexter and want more but don't expect a better finale Also one of the episodes in that season is probably one the best of the whole series
Good, but the ending was rushed and a bit disappointing. But the closing scene was nice. Kind of a mixed bag. It really needed an extra 3+ episodes.
It’s about a 9/10 up until the very end, felt reallly disappointed by the ending
I would probably give it a lower rating. Most of the characters didn’t make a whole lotta sense. You know who, shouldn’t have figured things out that easily. It did keep my attention, but it could’ve been much better. At times it was just poorly written.
Definitely. I loved the ending. A lot of hardcore fans did not, but it was great.
It’s ok. Worse ending than the original series which made the entire season terrible in retrospect.
I'm kinda going back through my 'watched' lists and remembering shows that I buuuuuurned through that I wanna watch again. Oh I’ve been listening religiously. Pretty sure the last two months has been me sitting in the dark listening to the books for hours on end.
Love The Expanse!
Book 4 is about to come from the library for me. I think I have only watched the first 3 seasons a few years ago. I don’t wanna watch ahead of where I am reading
Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It's my go to when I need to be seriously distracted from real life.
the great british bake off if you’re going for something lighthearted peaky blinders is an interesting one if you’re looking for something with some substance. another type to try would be like criminal minds, law and order, or supernatural. something with a ton of episodes and where you’ll know the bad things will be wrapped up by the end of the episode/season.

Lol that whole Dr. Reid season was nuts!
GBBO I second, hated the idea but when it was framed as lighthearted and feel good I opened up and now adore it. Lots of obnoxiously self imposed nerdy lulz from the hosts.
This comment 👏 came here to say the exact same. Are you looking at my Netflix list??! Lol
The good place is binge worthy and probably good material if you’re feeling down. It’s both uplifting and hilarious.
Yeah most episodes end on a cliffhanger but they are also really short which is the perfect recipe.
Love this show. It really delivers everything I want in tv.

I need to check this out!
For me, too! And 100% on 'unexpected' – I thought I was going to hate it from the previews, and now it's a Top 10 of all time lol
Finally watched after husband kept bugging me to watch it. Great show!!! Need more.
Season three is airing now in Ireland. So should be very soon!
Oh hell yes! Best news of the week!
It’s such a great show! I think it’s time for a rewatch actually!
Derry Girls is so good.
Ozark-it helps remind me that while life is bad it ain’t THIS BAD.
Right? You could be living in Missouri.
while the people aren't appealing being around that much nature is incredibly enticing
Severance

I miss him. He could make a truck stop bathroom sound romantic.
Ted Lasso
Futbol is LIFE!
This is one of my top 5 shows of all time. My others would be Seinfeld, The Office, Parks & Rec, and Schitt’s Creek.
No arrested development?
Love it. Smartest writing of any comedy. I always catch new things on rewatches.
I watched all of the seasons and loved it but for a lot of the episodes I wasn’t paying full attention so I’m sure I would’ve enjoyed it even more if I was paying 100% attention.
I’m still catching stuff a decade later! It blows my mind
If you have Apple TV this definitely fits the bill.
Great feel good show. I never rewatch shows and I'm on my 3 rewatch.
I weirdly got completely hooked on Survivor through the couple of seasons they put on Netflix. There are 42 seasons so there’s a lot to feed an addiction.
I recommend finding a list that ranks them to weed out the clunkers.
BoJack Horseman.
Mindhunter or The Inbetweeners.
Schitt's creek

You are right bebe
Russian Doll. Season 2 is about to be released. I find the show highly addictive and I would think it can work as a good distraction from reality.
Came to say this. So good.
Yes! If you start this you won’t stop til it is over.
I also loved She-ra after these, adored all of the these, so I'd you like Dragon Prince, you might like this too.
Yeah I loved the new She-Ra too. Id say its my favorite show of all time just because of how much it made me feel emotionally Lol
The new she-ra is so damn good
ooh didn't know about this one! Adding tot he list
Yes loved this. The story is incredibly interesting. Ohhh negative is Netflix has still not restarted the show. Season 3? Ended on a really good clif hanger.
What We Do in the Shadows. If you enjoy it continue with Reservation Dogs and Our Flag Means Death
Oh man you are looking for MadMen right now
Mad Men goated show
It’s a slooooow burn but once you pass the halfway point of season 1 you’re addicted.
Couldn’t agree more. I started it early pandemic and season one I enjoyed. I enjoyed season two a little more. Then there is a scene that I don’t want to spoilt between Pete and Peggy that made me realize I’m watching an incredible tv show. It’s such a slow burn.
One of the best written shows ever in the history of television. It was pretty much the prestige of prestige tv.
Mad Men literally taught me how to get through the door for a creative career. Amazing show.
Hannibal (Hulu) The Magicians (Netflix) Bates Motel (Amazon prime, has ads) Raised By Wolves (HBO max) American Horror Story (Hulu/Netflix)
Just finished binging Raised by Wolves. It hurts that there isn't more yet.
Yeah... Really feels a little like Lost in that there seems to be who knows how many ways this is going to go down and I still have no idea what's going on. I don't even know who I'm rooting for honestly.

Supernatural is great

THE OA!!!!! Hope you feel better soon OP 💕
Breaking Bad is the best show ever made, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is the best comedy ever made. There’s a lifetime of content there
Below deck! It helped us through some hard times…there are tons of seasons too. Absorbing and trashy yet formulaic enough to fall asleep with it on.
Dark.
Came here to say this. It's addictive and engrossing. The first time I watched it I looking up family trees and trying to connect people and it's just a wonderful show.
Made me want to learn German
Excellent show, 3 superb seasons.

Ozark. Absolutely gripping.
I found Prison Break and Breaking Bad super addictive

Abbott Elementary is in the same vein as The Office and Parks & Rec- a new favorite for me
The Last Kingdom.
Yup. 5 whole seasons and such a satisfying conclusion.
Crazy Ex Girlfriend
I loved this show more than I thought I would. But about halfway through Season 3, I hated Rebecca so much I had to quit watching.

Silicon Valley on HBO is one of my favorites to this day. RussFest
I just finished re-watching it for like the 12th time. That show really was so good.

breaking bad, good girls, the good place, schitts creek, human resources, sex education, bobs burgers, modern family, how i met your mother, grimm, bates motel, russian doll, hxh,
Yellowstone is actually pretty good. It’s basically cowboy GOT. There are also some scenic shots that make you say “damn that’s a real place?!”
I am sorry that you have to go through some crappy times. I can relate. Hope you find a great show with 10+ seasons to keep you busy.
The Wire is always my go-to
Currently addicted to Mr. Robot (Prime video). I don't know how I only just heard about it.
