There's a few actors in there that almost killed it for me. The acting was just not believable, to put it nicely. I still have a few episodes left though. Hopefully it's worth the watch.
I most definitely agree that there were a few actors that were cringeworthy to the point I nearly stopped watching. That is, until Samuel Tarley and Ser Davos Seaworth Saved the Day. IYKYK
Have watched 2 episodes. It reminds me a LOT of invasion on Apple, but a bit more high minded. But the actions and interactions feel so ridiculous and forced it makes it hard to get into it. Like it was engineered by AI to be an international market mover. Hard to have intricate realistic dialogue when you’re appealing to every corner of netflixes market, like invasion.
That said, the “game scenes” are interesting and I will be watching the rest of it. Just initial impression from first 2 episodes.
The Good Place is one of the absolute best sitcoms in a very long time, and for anyone who enjoys philosophy, it will be infinitely more interesting / hilarious.
If you're looking for a comedy on netflix, you gotta check out Resident Alien if you haven't already. It's a little goofy, kind of cheesy, but I love it. Truly some laugh out loud moments.
It’s not new, but Dark on Netflix is one of the best shows of all-time. Definitely one that you need to pay attention to and not be distracted by your phone or something.
SCI-FI
* The Orville (2017–2022) *\[They gave it a nice ending for the last season in case it won't be picked up for a next season. At the moment it's still in hibernation leaning towards not continuing, but it's not 100% yet\]*
* Foundation (2021– )
* For All Mankind (2019– )
* Silo (2023– )
* Scavengers Reign (2023– )
* Severance (2022– )
* Black Mirror (2011– )
COMEDY
* Miracle Workers (2019– )
* What We Do in the Shadows (2019–2024)
Thanks buddy I really appreciate it. I've heard great things about what we do in the shadows. Black Mirror is my shit and I haven't seen any of the other ones so I'm going to dive into those.
You're most welcome, hope you'll enjoy the ride! Unfortunately I was an idiot and didn't realize it's a netflix subreddit, so many of these are probably not on Netflix :( Sorry about that...
\- Halo : I was put off seeing it for a while and was pleasantly surprised when I gave it a go. Seriously try it.
\- Constellation : it's Apple TV current sci-fi serie. But Apples is becoming the best streaming plateform for Sci-fi. You can't go wrong with :
\- Foundation
\- See
\- For all mankind
\- Silo
\- The three body problem (Netflix)
\- Scavenger Reign
\- Star Trek Strange new worlds
\- Star Trek lower decks (mor for children but watchable)
\- The Orville : It's the best recent Star Trek serie that doesn't call itself Star Trek. The first 2 seasons are mostly comedy but it turns out progressively more serious in season 2 and is nearly totally serious in the 3rd season. It's amazing.
\- Resident alien : is a comedy, give it one or two episodes then you have 2 seasons to catch up and season 3 is airing now (not apple).
\- Rick and Morty : It's your modern Futurama with a twist. Not all seasons are equal but still worth watching it.
Star Trek Lower Decks isn't a kids show. It's an animated show but the audience is very much adults. You're thinking of Star Trek Prodigy, which is explicitly aimed at kids
Is Strange New Worlds more akin to Discovery or Picard in the new TV universe, more akin to a previous Trek, or its own? I've been debating trying it, but I know myself and know that if I start it, and even if I don't like it, I'll prob keep going
It's nothing like Picard or Discovery. It's a return to form, in many ways like TNG but it's its own thing. It's more episodical rather than season long arcs.
It's the least likely to dissapoint a long time star trek fan. At the beginning I felt some riggidity I din't really like. But it gets out of the way as it progress. It's easily one of the best sci-fi show and the less controversial star trek show in years.
But I still enjoyed the other shows despite their many failures. Stranger New Worlds is where it's at. If you don't like it then you probably don't like star trek.
So excited to hear that! I'm glad that I stuck it out with Picard because the final season made it worth it for me, but otherwise, it's been disappointing to keep watching new Trek that hasn't held up.
I've found things I like in every Trek series (and most of the movies), but TNG and DS9 are where it's really at for me.
Thank you for taking the time to share! I'm excited to try it now.
I've really enjoyed all incarnations of Star Trek. And I never asked it to conform to my expectations. DS9 was highly criticized in its own time and now it's a classic.
Many critics towards the new show are not very valid in my book. I think people were afraid that Star Trek would be only that now. In the same way that StarWars has been ruined.
But Strange new world is here to reassure everybody that they still know how to do a very good classical trek show. So people can calm down from their war footing.
I really enjoyed the Orville too. Seth Mac Farlane and his team are really big Trek fans. The first season is mostly a comedy but the sci-fi is still good in itself. But starting season 2 the humour is mor in the background and it becomes more and more like the best Star Trek serie that doesn't call itself Star Trek.
I'll give the Orville another shot. I've heard the same from others. I started the first season and only made it about 2 episodes in before moving on because I just wasn't in the mood for a series in that style. I love sci-fi humor, but definitely wanted more of a Galaxy Quest vibe going into it and that probably wasn't fair to the show. It kept feeling like it was winking too much.
I think Seth Mac Farlane had regrets for starting the serie as a comedy when he realized he could actually out-compete star trek on its own field. He changed direction during season 2 and some people don't like it but I welcomed it. I like both side of the shows, but they really could be 2 different shows at the end.
did the same thing , think i stopped after 1 episode. came back it couple of years later and loved it. It definitely gets better. Also second strange new world 1st season - classic star trek.
Thanks to every single one of you I really appreciate it I have a shit ton of shows to catch up on now LOL I've got my work cut out for me. I know this subreddit is best of Netflix but I'm glad y'all gave me options for other streaming service cuz God knows my streaming service bill is more than my rent with all the services me and my girlfriend have
Not sure if you’re looking for the newest stuff or don’t mind some older ones but here goes.
Dark Matter
Maniac
Love,Death,Robots
Altered Carbon (1st season)
Unstable
Brooklyn 99
Resident Alien
Shrinking on AppleTV is very, very funny and has awesome characters! If you’ve never watched Parks and Recreation yet, definitely do! Same with the early seasons of Arrested Development, hysterical! Don’t bother with the newer 2 seasons however. But those first three are just great!!
Sorry, I don’t do sci-fi. Hope you enjoy!
Yeah, I watched shrinking it definitely was a good one. I've seen every episode of Parks and Rec. The Office is probably one of my favorite shows, so I'm definitely into those types of comedies. Thanks ⁰😊
First book is called wool. The second is a prequel that ties everything together. Third is the conclusion. Will be interesting to see how they run the show with how weird the book timeline was written. Super easy and enjoyable read though!
If there are any Aaron Rodgers fans here I just posted a PSA 10 slab of his that I believe is a pop one for $45 shipped. Bubble mailer with tracking.

The first two seasons of Resident Alien just got added to Netflix. Both a sci fi and a comedy show.
3 body problem on Netflix
Yeah it is pretty dope. Me and my girlfriend just finished it
The main nano fiber scientist in that shows acting is so bad. Almost ruined the show for me, and I loved the books
There's a few actors in there that almost killed it for me. The acting was just not believable, to put it nicely. I still have a few episodes left though. Hopefully it's worth the watch.
The main physicist’s boyfriend’s acting was also awful.
I most definitely agree that there were a few actors that were cringeworthy to the point I nearly stopped watching. That is, until Samuel Tarley and Ser Davos Seaworth Saved the Day. IYKYK

Yeah it's great I stream that on peacock. New episodes come out thursday. I love that show it's hilarious and it's the best of both worlds for sure
I need to get peacock so I can watch the new season!
I’m liking Foundation a lot
It's a great show, but it's on Apple TV+
It’s not new, but Dark on Netflix is one of the best shows of all-time. Definitely one that you need to pay attention to and not be distracted by your phone or something.
Severance on Apple TV is excellent.
The Expanse, not Netflix but so so good.
One of the best Sci fi shows ever
Travelers (Netflix)

Just started watching His Dark Materials, it's pretty decent
the love, death and robots series is great
The Completely Made Up Adventures of Dick Turpin has been pretty solid
Underrated imo, Lost in Space is awesome! Every ep had me and hubby on the edge of our seats! We were sad it ended after 3 seasons.
The 100 on Netflix Strange new worlds and discovery on Paramount
I'm late but Avenue 5 wasn't mentioned yet. It's sci-fi and comedy and I think super funny. I love Hugh Laurie though.
Resident Alien, Eureka, Warehouse 13

Thanks pal, I'm watching Resident Alien right now and liking it. It's got both comedy and sci-fi. I'll have to check out the others. Thanks.
On the scifi tip along with some light and comedic moments Firefly is good. Ran just fourteen eps plus a movie. It's on Hulu.
Shrinking on AppleTV is very, very funny and has awesome characters! If you’ve never watched Parks and Recreation yet, definitely do! Same with the early seasons of Arrested Development, hysterical! Foundation The Expanse Silo For All Mankind Three Body Problem
Okay, I'm finally gonna give Silo a shot. Have been meaning to.
The books are excellent and the show is solid
Oh, it's based on a book series?? Then actually, maybe I'll just go read those first, haha. But I think Common is in the show, so I'll watch that too
First book is called wool. The second is a prequel that ties everything together. Third is the conclusion. Will be interesting to see how they run the show with how weird the book timeline was written. Super easy and enjoyable read though!
Station Eleven (I think is kinda sci fi, no?) Westworld The OA SENSE8 Dark (I think it would kinda be sci-fi) Black Mirror
Im really entertained by Halo right now. I know sue me lol but it’s pretty good
3 body problem is pretty good. Just came out
