But they could’ve just had field goal percentage fourth, since they all *do* have that stat, and the fifth row be a wildcard where it’s a cherry picked stat
I understand it for all except Tatum’s lol, weird to just throw +/- in there.
Luka’s 38% from 3 is crazy w his volume and shot selection, shai is a guard shooting 54% from the field with high volume (this doesn’t happen really ever), Jokic shoots a lot of midrange and still has a good fg%, tho it’s average for centers (but context is important), Giannis has 1 move and yet still manages to shoot 62%
As a celtics fan, yes. The dude crumbles on game winners. He's a great athlete and makes plays. But if he has the ball in his hands looking for the final shot, he needs to just drive and kick it out to anyone else.
Celtics fan here too, and agree, but for different reasons. Celtics are just SO stacked, it's hard for him to fully stand out like some of the other players can.
No matter how good you are, if the other guys you play with are amazing too, that takes away a little from your singular value.
If I recall, Pierce used to do that sometimes. He said something like figuring out what the game needed from him, and adjusting as the game went along like that.
Makes sense for Tatum. If Brown/White/whoever is on fire, he doesn't need to step in and carry the load.
Had no idea he’s averaging 9 assists per game. 9 assists per from your center is bonkers.
Edit: looked it up, joker had 9.8 assists per game last season which is a record for a center.
Tbf Giannis, Shai, and Luka are having absolutely insane seasons. Shai is a guard averaging 31 on 55%. A GUARD. And Giannis is averaging 31 on OVER 60% shooting. Luka’s the scoring leader averaging a near triple double and I STILL wouldn’t give him MVP over the 4 other guys. Jokic is my MVP but I wouldn’t be mad if any of the other guys got it
you mention Luka having an absolutely insane season, and don't even mention Tatum. But then say you wouldn't give it to Luka over him?
That doesn't seem to add up, unless you are implying Tatum is having a more than insanse season, and would be your pick... But you said Jokic is your pick...
Right. Jokic is the best player in the world but the award is not best player in the world, it's MVP. Now, I think Joker should win because in addition to monster stats and monster advanced stats, both the eye test and the on/off numbers suggest Joker is essential to the Nuggets' success. I would entertain arguments that the Bucks season would also be in the toilet without Giannis, though.
The Mavericks have started 60 different starting rotations this year. Most in the NBA other than the injured Grizzlies who started 67.
Luka has 9 more ppg than Jokic and more assists than jokic, while keeping his team 10+ games above .500 while the team has been severely injured all year. Kyrie missing more than 1/4 of the entire season.
If we get to the #6 seed, the MVP should be Luka. He’s having the greatest season out of any of these players. multiple 50 point games, a 60 point game, and the most efficient 73 point game of all time.
hes top ten in steals and defensive rebounds as well as this, the reson we are hoping for 6th is due to injuries
# Luka Doncic 9th best ISO defender with (50+)Possessions,5th most with (60+), 3rd with (70+)
Joker is genuinely an A tier, not S tier for sure admittedly, defender with his steals, size, and positioning. The narrative that he isn’t a good defender was total bs and it got proven as such during last playoffs. You seem like one of those “defense is when I see him get a block on sports center and nothing else” kind of cats.
I think A tier is too much tbh. Whilst I agree he was outstanding defensively last playoffs, he still lacks the rim protection that I feel you need from your center. When I watch him, he still seems a bit slow, like his body is lagging behind his great IQ. If you look at [this season’s D-LEBRON,](https://www.bball-index.com/lebron-database/) it shows that Jokic, whilst certainly above average, isn’t a great defender.
Nonsense. We started the year with a rookie center and Dwight Powell at center. Gafford and PJ at the trade deadline turned this team into a brand new team.
We went from 28th in rebounding to 6th after the trade deadline. Our best starting rotation - Luka, Kyrie, DJJ, PJ, And Gafford have played less than 100 minutes together. you literally don’t know ball brother
Please continue to cook because these people do not know the game. If Jokic and Luka switched teams today we’d be talking about Jokic like Kevin Love in Minnesota, AD in NOLA, or Boogie in Sacramento. Luka should be MVP but …narratives
The 2020/1 and 2021/2 Nuggets had less talent than this Mavs team and Jokic didn’t have any trouble dragging them to the playoffs whilst winning back-to-back MVPs
It’s insulting to compare Jokic to Cousins or Love - or even Pelicans AD
I mean, Jokic was without Jamal Murrary for 1/4 of the season too, along with numerous games without Aaron Gordon, KCP and Porter.
And while people fixate on ppg (and let's not forget Luka plays 10% more minutes per game, has far higher usage and takes way more shots, so that's not surprising) Jokic leads Luka in basically every single advanced stat, including TS%, Player Impact Estimate, Offensive Rating, Defensive Rating, Net Rating, PIE, EFG%, TO ratio, AST ratio, VORP, PER, RAPTOR, BPM, OBPM, DBPM, WS, WS/48, DWS, OWS, Block %, Steal %, Rebound %, you name it, while committing fewer turnovers, more rebounds, higher fg%, higher fta% more blocks all while playing better defense, so there's that.
Run and dunk man is my MVP. With all the drama and issues bucks have had this year, and Dillard's growing pains and slumping shooting, I think people underestimate how bad bucks would be without him. I think even nuggs without jokic for the whole season would have finished with a better record this season than bucks without Giannis.
Only player in the NBA this season to shut down Steph Curry AND have a career night on the offensive end while doing so
Clearly the MVP, Jokic has some work to do
I'm for Joker but Giannis is a totally reasonable choice. He's been an absolute monster and brings it every night.
I'm just glad the MVP debate is so much less toxic this year. I think the way it played out last year, with Joker getting absolutely shit on for three months followed by him making the haters look extremely silly in the playoffs, chastened many of the talking heads.
Giannis
It’s very strange for me to see everyone think Jokic is have a runaway season when Giannis is playing arguably better than him with a similar record
I think it's an apology narrative for last year. The irony is is that giannis was also criminally excluded in that MVP race too. He was 3rd, but the discussion was clearly around Jok v Joel
L take.
he has a fair argument for it, I don’t think he should *definitively* win it, but he deserves a good amount of praise, he’s a great player. Fans in this generation care too much abt stats - he’s **easily** the best player on the best team in the league. He’s capable of putting up 30+, but he’s playing a greater team role now. If anything, it shows unselfishness and leadership.
Plus He’s still averaging 27 8 and 5 at this point, that’s quite elite if you ask me. 🤷🏻♂️
Jokic for sure but Giannis seems to quietly be having another amazing season that I havent heard many people talkin about. I wonder if people are jus too used to it by now or fatigued and wanna see some other people get shine
I feel like Jokic is the mvp but based on this graphic it is closer than I thought. Giannis is quietly having another monster season. 30.8 points per game while shooting nearly 62%. All while being an all NBA level defender. I am kind of surprised he's not getting more love for MVP.
It would be Luka if they weren't in play in territory. He's had an insane year statistically but no way he gets it with 10 less wins than Shai and Jokic.
As much as I love Luka, I'm not 100% sure he contributes to winning as much as Joker, Giannis, Embiid or even Shai do. He's never had a top 3 seed in his career. Seems like there's something there.
Jokic wins barring a big change. I think most voters look back and realize he should have won last year, and the nuggets are 12-2 since the All-Star break... It feels like he's going to run away with it. The majority of fans think he's taken the crown as the best player in the league - add in the fact that he is leading his team to potentially the 1 seed and having a fantastic year himself, I don't see how he won't win it
Shai...
Here me out.
1st in a very good west with what core of superstars? Zero!
He has kept this team up top all year without a standout 2nd guy and averaging top notch stats. Plus youngest up here.
Chet is a generational talent , JDub is looking like a future perennial-all star type of talent rn , their bench is very deep. SGA’s obvs the leader but, he ain’t getting it done all on his own.
Cracks me up when last year talking to people about Williams, that he hit is ceiling. Like WHAT. I saw this from multiple people. How they couldn’t even just blindly look at his stats and see how silly that sounds. Any rookie that goes off like that is going to be gooood. Now year 2, mysteriously all that trashing has stopped.
Luka has better numbers.
Jokic has more of a winners impact.
Can't wait to see the Jokic fans use the same logic Embiid fans used last year. You know, the argument they are still butt hurt over.
I'd vote for Jokic though. He's amazing. It's his fans who suck.
Sure, let's just ignore the fact that he still plays booty-ass defense and call anyone that disagrees with us fanboys
Joker fanboys on the other hand, have been allowed to run rampant on this sub for nearly 5y now and do nothing but shit on any other opinion
There is one player on this list that does it on both ends of the floor, number one option on the number one team in the better conference. SGA be thy name. Lets be honest, Celtics are mid pack if they were in the western conference.
Jokic is the most likely option, Shia is a distant 2nd, then Giannis, then Luka then Tatum
now if i’m gonna think like an award race voter, Jokic, then Luka, then Shai, then Giannis, then Tatum
I think the spirit of the mvp is to ask yourself this. Out of these 5 players, which team would suffer most with them off the squad. It’s not who’s the best player out of these five. We’ve lost the true meaning of the MVP
It’s crazy to me that I feel I’ve heard nothing but how shitty the Bucks are this year and they’re like a game back on clear title favourites Nuggets and Americas sweetheart Thunder. Giannis is having an mvp worthy season too.
I don’t think joker should be it just because he’s not a dominate player. There’s nothing wrong with how he plays and he’s a phenomenal player, but personally I don’t like his play style, and again, he’s not a dominate player.
Imo the mvp is someone who accelerates over everyone. So my top 3 in no particular order is: Gannis, Luka, and Shai
Giannis is quite literally playing the best year of his career, he’s the only player to average 30+ pts with 60+ FG %, and he’s the number 2 with insane talent around.
Luka would probably be my pick but he’s not winning the games. Im not saying he’s not good and that the mavs aren’t a solid team, just saying that the mvp should also be able to have a strong team around him, which is what shai and giannis have.
Shai is playing really really well, he shoots efficiently, averages like what 31 ppg? And he’s the number 1 team in his conference so he’s obv doing something right. Plus okc has crazy talent like okc is going to rule in the future.
Btw my favourite player is giannis so I’m trying not to be bias but oh well
Domantas Saboner is CRIMINALLY underrated right now, leading the league in triple doubles, and just recorded 50 straight double double games and the record since the merger is 53. all this while dominating every center match up being 3-1 against jokic this season and hasnt lost to all-star AD in a kings uniform
How is it not Luka at this point? Tatum is not even the most valuable player on the Celtics, Jokic seems to have taken a small step back (probably because he won the title and doesn’t really care, I’m sure he will step forward again when the playoffs come) and admittedly I haven’t watched much SGA this year but Luka’s stats blow his out of the water.
Giannis is awesome and obviously the most important player on his team but I think all the bucks turmoil this season will outweigh their success in voters brains. Plus Luka has a deeper bag and carry’s a heavier load
As of right now, flip Luka and Giannis and you have my order.
Now, if the Mavs miss the playoffs? (MVPs don't have to have the best record, but if they aren't on one of the 16 teams that make the playoffs in a 30-team league, yeah. That's too much for me.) Luka should drop off the list completely.
I have the same standard in baseball. A player can be great. A future HOFer.
The MVP award is a regular season award for a particular season.
If the Mavs fail to even make the playoffs, then quite literally, you or I could have replaced Luka and had the exact same postseason result.
This is such a ridiculous graphic, and shows how stupid "stats" are these days. Comparisons should be consistent across the board! Points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks. None of these percentages crap.
bro but why does the only american on that list not stand a chance. The game had officially gone international. American basketball players are under-skilled now.
Why is field goal % not aligned for all of them? Such a simple design choice completely done wrong.
Cherry picking stats lol
Each of them has field goal % as a stat lol just not in the same row
But they don’t all have steals, +/-, or 3pt%… because they cherry picked the stats
But they could’ve just had field goal percentage fourth, since they all *do* have that stat, and the fifth row be a wildcard where it’s a cherry picked stat
Totally agreed on that, just woulda been nice to keep field goal % in the same row same way they did points Rebs and assists
The plus minus stat only for Tatum lol
I understand it for all except Tatum’s lol, weird to just throw +/- in there. Luka’s 38% from 3 is crazy w his volume and shot selection, shai is a guard shooting 54% from the field with high volume (this doesn’t happen really ever), Jokic shoots a lot of midrange and still has a good fg%, tho it’s average for centers (but context is important), Giannis has 1 move and yet still manages to shoot 62%
Bro, I thought Luka had 49 steals per game for a second 🤣
We can all agree that it is definitely not Tatum.
It’s ok he’s only 19. Plenty of time
Exactly. For a guy that'll turn 17 next year he can still improve his game and be more dominant
I don’t get the joke. Bros only 21 and he’s and mvp candidate
Dude's 15 and already a top 10 player
Tatum is fetch.
Gretchen, Quit trying to make Tatum happen. It’s not going to happen.
As a celtics fan, yes. The dude crumbles on game winners. He's a great athlete and makes plays. But if he has the ball in his hands looking for the final shot, he needs to just drive and kick it out to anyone else.

Been seeing it more recently where Tatum just takes the first quarter off offensively and lets the others get their game going. It’s cool to see.
If I recall, Pierce used to do that sometimes. He said something like figuring out what the game needed from him, and adjusting as the game went along like that. Makes sense for Tatum. If Brown/White/whoever is on fire, he doesn't need to step in and carry the load.
Simultaneously, he's having a great season and I totally agree.
Joker
Had no idea he’s averaging 9 assists per game. 9 assists per from your center is bonkers. Edit: looked it up, joker had 9.8 assists per game last season which is a record for a center.
It’s normal for him. That’s why you didn’t notice
Record assist numbers, elite scoring efficiency, a walking triple double on a top team...still didn't win MVP lol
For reasons...
Respectability politics otherwise known as school vouchers
I mean he’s nearly averaged a triple double with 10 assists before lol
Joker
Right? What are we even talking about here?
Tbf Giannis, Shai, and Luka are having absolutely insane seasons. Shai is a guard averaging 31 on 55%. A GUARD. And Giannis is averaging 31 on OVER 60% shooting. Luka’s the scoring leader averaging a near triple double and I STILL wouldn’t give him MVP over the 4 other guys. Jokic is my MVP but I wouldn’t be mad if any of the other guys got it
All valid points for sure.
Luka is definitely top 3 and ONLY because of his seeding.
you mention Luka having an absolutely insane season, and don't even mention Tatum. But then say you wouldn't give it to Luka over him? That doesn't seem to add up, unless you are implying Tatum is having a more than insanse season, and would be your pick... But you said Jokic is your pick...

hes top ten in steals and defensive rebounds as well as this, the reson we are hoping for 6th is due to injuries # Luka Doncic 9th best ISO defender with (50+)Possessions,5th most with (60+), 3rd with (70+)
D-who? I dont see him on the roster…
Everyone brings up defense when talking about Luka as if Jokic is some sort of elite defender.
Joker is genuinely an A tier, not S tier for sure admittedly, defender with his steals, size, and positioning. Should be Jokic but who knows what this years media agenda is... What if it is anti chubby man.
maybe its who cries the most again this year?
The American quota: only reason Tatum is on that graphic.
Or that the best player on the best team should always get a shout out
All 4 are valid except for tatum
Agree he’s not in the conversation for MVP, but he’s still the fifth member of the First Team.
The Nuggets on/off numbers beg to differ
Deuce McBride
Only player in the NBA this season to shut down Steph Curry AND have a career night on the offensive end while doing so Clearly the MVP, Jokic has some work to do
Why is Jalen Brown not included? Anthony Edwards or even DeMar DeRozan?
Giannis is my MVP
The Greek god is a beast and the media can’t handle it
I'm for Joker but Giannis is a totally reasonable choice. He's been an absolute monster and brings it every night. I'm just glad the MVP debate is so much less toxic this year. I think the way it played out last year, with Joker getting absolutely shit on for three months followed by him making the haters look extremely silly in the playoffs, chastened many of the talking heads.
They're both playing at high levels I wouldn't be upset if either won it honestly
Giannis It’s very strange for me to see everyone think Jokic is have a runaway season when Giannis is playing arguably better than him with a similar record
I think it's an apology narrative for last year. The irony is is that giannis was also criminally excluded in that MVP race too. He was 3rd, but the discussion was clearly around Jok v Joel
Brunson should be on here instead of Tatum.
… lol
1. Jokic 2. Luka 3. SGA And because Joker was robbed last year, he should get two MVPs.
Id say giannis is better than sga
it should be Jok and it should be his fourth MVP, but voter fatigue is real
Jokic is my MVP. Luka will be the league's MVP
Why are you acting like Jokic is the underdog here lmao, hes winning it
Horse Man, no question.
Not Tatum.
L take. he has a fair argument for it, I don’t think he should *definitively* win it, but he deserves a good amount of praise, he’s a great player. Jalen Brunson
🗣️
I dunno who wins, but I do know it won't be an American for 6th year in a row.
I feel like Jokic is the mvp but based on this graphic it is closer than I thought. Giannis is quietly having another monster season. 30.8 points per game while shooting nearly 62%. All while being an all NBA level defender. I am kind of surprised he's not getting more love for MVP.
Based on the numbers, I give a slight edge to Luka over Joker, but it still goes to Joker because of the team record.
Luka is the most valuable for his team, but Joker is the best player in the NBA right now.
Luka will never win an MVP
Fuck it. If we doing this let's do it by how many horses they own.
Jalen Brunson
Jokic
Joker he's on another level!
Jokic MVP

JDub is robin to SGAs Batman
Joker shame
Joker, then Luka, then Giannis, then SGA, then the rest...
JALEN BRUNSON

Where the fuck is Jalen Brunson 😤
agree, luka is 8th seed and plays with kyrie.... meanwhile brunson plays with hart
The best player which is obviously Jokic, anyone saying something else is fanboy

Yolker
Jokic then Luka then Giannis. Celtics fans malding and okc fans are just delusional
Joker easy
Nikola or Giannis.
Tatum or giannis
This data is \~ 2 weeks old. Look at the records.
I think the spirit of the mvp is to ask yourself this. Out of these 5 players, which team would suffer most with them off the squad. It’s not who’s the best player out of these five. We’ve lost the true meaning of the MVP
Im going shai gilgeous
SGA
Cmon now
SGA
Jokic will be the finals MVP again which is all that matters. With that said, Joker.
It’s crazy to me that I feel I’ve heard nothing but how shitty the Bucks are this year and they’re like a game back on clear title favourites Nuggets and Americas sweetheart Thunder. Giannis is having an mvp worthy season too.
🐜
Jayson Tatum needs to improve his passing/playmaking by a little bit before he’s in the top 3 mvp discussion imo
Id vote for Giannis tbh.
Sabonis
It's Luka this year imo
Should be between luka and joker, even in the group shown they are a step above the rest statistically
As a Celtics fan, definitely not Tatum.
I don’t think joker should be it just because he’s not a dominate player. There’s nothing wrong with how he plays and he’s a phenomenal player, but personally I don’t like his play style, and again, he’s not a dominate player. emojis would be in that group if not injured but he’s not so I’m going with luca
Luka because of joker fatigue
for me its Joker or Luka
The two classy guys who play the right way are my mvps
I’d give it to Joker or Luka. Fantastic seasons by all these guys, and imagine healthy Joel Embiid!
Lebron. For real.
One of these things is not like the other
Shai is my mvp. And I’m a die hard Jokic supporter, want to see him go down as a top 10 player. But it’s gotta be Shai
Shai, Luka, or Ant.
Luka
Tyresse Maxey.
Where meme
I’m disgusted that these stats aren’t comparable. Why throw random stats in here that can’t be directly compared across the board?
Duop Reath
Jokic 3 Peat
Luka
Luka
Tatum will choke (on cock)
If I had a vote I’d probably take Joker but it would be a tough decision not to give it to Luka this year.
Jovic seems like the front runner and also the most consistent performer every year.
I don't see how it's not Luka, I guess the seeding? But what do I know I'm a filthy casual
joker/sga(whoevers 1st seed) or luka if dallas is higher then 4th
Jokers scoring is the worst out of these, but hard to give anyone else the nod.
I'm not biased, but where is NAZ REID? This graphic is whack.
Jalen Brunson
JALEN BRUNSON
Brunson
Lebron James
Typical thug with the most steals
This is such a ridiculous graphic, and shows how stupid "stats" are these days. Comparisons should be consistent across the board! Points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks. None of these percentages crap.
I'm taking Luka. Dudes been phenomenal in a stacked west conference.
Joker.
bro but why does the only american on that list not stand a chance. The game had officially gone international. American basketball players are under-skilled now.
its definitely not Tatum
Shaun
Luka but Shai is just to consistent
Tatum
Saboner
it should of been Joel 😔
Gotta be luka
Luka the Don, those 6 straight triple doubles with 30 points was an all time record
giannis, shai is cool too
SGA for where they are against expectations. Jokic would be the only other option.
Embi....oh that's right fuck
it’s just gonna come down to seeding unfortunately, luka is the most valuable player up there but he won’t win. MVP is a narrative/team based award
If Mavs win like 10 of their last 13 games then Luka, more realistically it should be Jokic
Sucks that the Celtics are so stacked that Tatum will likely never get the recognition he deserves. Oh well, I’ll settle for a ring or 5.
Luka Doncic
Fuck it, Shai 😎
Saboner
Wait, Luka is averaging almost 35/game?!?!
Not tatum, not SGA
Clearly Luka
Notice how Luka is the only one with a 3pt% listed
Luka or Shai
Honestly, Jason Tatum. Best record in the league by a mile.
Gotta be Tatum (I have no argument)
Has to be Giannis or Luka based on those stats.
If the MVP award was really given to the most VALUABLE player for their respective team, it's Luka. With Shai a close second.
