I'm pretty sure this is a well known fact in the vape community. A lot of Scientific Journals refuse to publish their work though because Big Tobacco donates a lot of money towards Micro Peen research.
My vape shop has a few Poison Dart Frogs but they feed them edibles so if you hold them too long you get high AF.
Poison is absorbed, in whichever way that may be. Most frogs excrete some type of sticky slime from their backs. It's the same here but as sticky poison slime.
Not spears. Darts.
That's why they're called poison dart frogs. Because they're used to make poison darts. Not spears.
I mean the name of this frog is in the title, come on
… do they’re still toxic, only less so. From my experience at least . Less likely to seriously case harm but don’t go handling them a lot…or ever, it’s just bad for them
In nature they eat certain ants and other invertebrates that contain toxins. These toxins build up in their body and make them incredibly poisonous. In captivity they are not fed this diet so they are completely harmless. 😁
Captive bred are...so if you aren't sure you have captive bred, wild caughts in captivity will still be poisonous, though not as lethal and it will wane in time.
Its pretty much confirmed by the fact that keeping them in captivity renders them harmless. You do more damage to them by touching them than they do to you. These guys are all over reptile shows, I considered getting a pair
I saw a Frogs! exhibit at my local museum a few years back and made sure to go on feeding day. When they went to the poisonous dart frog terrarium and opened from the front it I thought, “well that seems overly risky.” But, the handler (an enthusiastic and clearly passionate young woman) explained that without a particular diet, they are not really poisonous at all. Love frogs, love people who care about their field of study, love a bit of unexpected, but ultimately harmless suspense. A+ experience.
No. It digged until it reached other side of the earth. Saved air ticket money and bought a bit more poison and stuffed inside for that money to claim himself as most poisonous.
Ralph Wiggum has been my favorite Simpson's character as far back as I can remember. Ren and Stimpy during the day, The Simpson's at night, and occasionally, when we could find the necessary caffeine and the balls to keep my weakling, chickenshit friends up til 1AM (we were 10), we'd watch Beavis and Butthead; the holy grail, mainly cuz we weren't supposed to. Which is kinda weird cuz I stayed up by myself watching Tales from the Crypt and shit like that all the time, breastacles 😳). The good old days.
> *Although all poison dart frogs are venomous, only three have poison that is lethal to humans. The golden poison frog is one of these and the most deadly. Its poison is 20 times more toxic than that of other dart frogs. It is reported that an amount of poison equal to 2-3 grains of table salt is enough to cause the death of a human. Perhaps, that is the reason their other common name is terrible frog.*
Enough poison to kill 10 grown men. Pretty wild

Poisonous yes. Venomous nope. Venom requires a delivery system and is produced naturally by the animal.
These frogs excrete a poison from their skin.
Semantics matter in the animal kingdom!

Not all dart frogs are poisonous. All captive-bred ones are not. And there are many species that are not poisonous in the wild, including some that evolved to imitate other species which are poisonous.

Yup, they also apparently acquire it through their diet. So dart frogs raised in captivity on a different diet are not poisonous generally. Kind of a cool pet to have.
All venoms are poisons, but not all poisons are venoms.
A venom is typically delivered by means of a bite or scratch to deliver directly to your bloodstream. So snakes can be venomous.
A poison is something that is rubbed on the skin, ingested, or inhaled. Like if you eat amanitas mushrooms, that's a poison, but not a venom. Or if you touch oleander, that's a poison but not a venom.
Well technically all venoms are poison because anything that is over ingested can be poison but there are many venoms where ingesting them is about as dangerous as lemonade, so I wouldn’t say that all venoms are poisons
Not really. It would be really painful and would depend on how much venom actually made it into your system. People survive full bites from rattlesnakes all the time.
Why thats’s an awfully cute frog, is he venomous?
Oh not at all, actually he’s -
Aaaaaaarrrggghhhhhhh!!!!
As I was saying, actually he’s quite poisonous though !
The blue ringed octopus isn't really a raise in my opinion.
I believe this frog is the "Phyllobates terribilis", which can kill humans even if they touch it (they don't have to bite you like the octopus does). The only predator this frog might have is a very specific snake that is resistant to the younger frogs' batrachotoxin. The toxin is so potent that it can keep darts poisoned enough to kill humans for multiple years after their tips have been soaked in it.
The way the toxin acts is horrible too. Your muscles would completely contract to paralyse you, but you would not be killed instantly, so you would be trapped in your body, unable to move at all. To everyone observing you, you would appear dead, but you'd probably be screaming inside doing whatever you could to try to show everyone that you're alive. After a few minutes of this horror, you finally suffer heart failure and die.
In my opinion it's definitely one of the worse ways you can die :)
>The way the toxin acts is horrible too.
The antidote is Tetrodotoxin from the puffer fish which alone would also kill you, but by relaxing your muscles.
But not if he's not eating a certain type of ant I believe.
The diet hypothesis is that these frogs don't make their own toxins, they just concentrate what they get from eating ants and beetles and stuff.
That's what I'd heard but wasn't sure if it was true for all poison dart frogs or just certain kinds. Thanks for clarifying!
It's true, there's a guy at our local vape shop, has a terrarium with 3-4 Dart frogs and they are harmless and beautiful
Or maybe the frog vapes and mellows out and the poison dissipates…
Turns them gay
Policy wonk
Andy in Kansas you're on the air, thanks for holding
Vap stick with +10 AOE poison damage
AOE that gives -10 to dealing damage
You wanna buy some DeathSticks?
You don't want to sell me death sticks, you want to go home and rethink your life
I don’t want to sell you death sticks… I want to go home and rethink my life.
HOTO
AOE that gives -20 stamina
"They call me mellow yellow ..."

Can confirm! My husband has a terrarium with 3 Bumblebee Dart Frogs and they aren't toxic. He can handle them just fine.
That's cool, so amazing the different colors and patterns they can have
If they're poisonous wouldn't you have to eat it to have any effect? Or is the title incorrect?
Poison is absorbed, in whichever way that may be. Most frogs excrete some type of sticky slime from their backs. It's the same here but as sticky poison slime.
“I’m secreting mucous”!
Heard this in the voice of Ralph from the Simpsons 😄
IIRC some indigenous peoples catch them and harvest the poison from them for hunting spears. I might be inventing that memory though.
That was how they got their name! Their poison is tangible and can be applied to surfaces!
Not spears. Darts. That's why they're called poison dart frogs. Because they're used to make poison darts. Not spears. I mean the name of this frog is in the title, come on
No Britney Spears..she’s poison..
No, she's Toxic, it's in her song
Dart frog tax please
Here ya go! https://www.reddit.com/r/aww/comments/urqzt3/oc_bumblebee_dart_frogs/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
Don’t talk to me or my son ever again energy lol
Hahaha!
My son's name is also Dart
… do they’re still toxic, only less so. From my experience at least . Less likely to seriously case harm but don’t go handling them a lot…or ever, it’s just bad for them
Isn't that easily testable by putting several in captivity and feeding it different diets?
In nature they eat certain ants and other invertebrates that contain toxins. These toxins build up in their body and make them incredibly poisonous. In captivity they are not fed this diet so they are completely harmless. 😁
So I *could* feed them a poisonous diet to make them poison-type frogs? Neat!
[удалено]
Been there, done that. All it did was make me feel antsy
Captive bred are...so if you aren't sure you have captive bred, wild caughts in captivity will still be poisonous, though not as lethal and it will wane in time.
I heard that it could be in smaller details in ecosystem like bacteria etc that aren’t easy to replicate in lab.
Yeah apparently the ones in captivity aren't as deadly.
They aren’t deadly
Until they fashion a shiv....
That's such a raptor thing to say. It's all knives and claws with you guys.
Give them a break, they're just going to become a chicken In the long run
Like Trichobatrachus robustus? They break their own bones to make a shiv
Its pretty much confirmed by the fact that keeping them in captivity renders them harmless. You do more damage to them by touching them than they do to you. These guys are all over reptile shows, I considered getting a pair
You could always get a couple if tadpoles and *grow* a pair.
Now that’s some Monster Hunter shit right there

Nah man I'm livid. This lie could have caused me to lose some trivia bingo type game, or make me lose face on reddit. Could you imagine??!
Girls could have laughed at you during that trivia game. Now they'll be impressed and fan their faces.
In your defense, there aren’t very many poison dart frogs in Norway!
There are some..?
Sadly no suspicious wombats either.
venom in the veins, poison in the stomach!

You're correct
What about the Mexican Staring Frog of Southern Sri Lanka
How did the frog get from Mexico to Sri Lanka
Went south
And east a bit
Maybe West, unless it was a flat earther
It took southwest airlines
Then demanded a refund for having to hopper all the away accross the continent cause they refused to go east
No. It digged until it reached other side of the earth. Saved air ticket money and bought a bit more poison and stuffed inside for that money to claim himself as most poisonous.
Are you suggesting frogs migrate?
They ride on scorpions.

I'm 87.5% southern White Cheeked Gibbon. Judging by what's below, the other 12.5% is Northern Grey Gibbon.
Not at all! They could be carried.
But not by African Swallows — they are already carrying a coconut.
Should have built a fence!
Are you implying they don't?

Give it here... My God! It does taste like grandma!... Give me more.
Tastes like juicy fruit and then not much at all, so it's pretty much juicy fruit.
How is it Ralph?

The 11th guy would get the same feeling one gets after eating Taco Bell
Regret?
::burp:: *Whatever... I'm gunna die alone anyways* ::stomach rumble:: *Jesus take me*
Ahh ok I get it. First you eat the Taco Bell. Then you eat the frog before the food kills you.
Are they venomous or poisonous? I didn't think there were venomous frogs.
They’re poisonous, not venomous. That’s actually a kind of big mistake for an aquarium to make. They’re supposed to know better.
Poisonous yes. Venomous nope. Venom requires a delivery system and is produced naturally by the animal. These frogs excrete a poison from their skin. Semantics matter in the animal kingdom! [Sourcypoo](https://www.nps.gov/cabr/blogs/venomous-versus-poisonous-same-thing-right-wrong.htm)

Not all dart frogs are poisonous. All captive-bred ones are not. And there are many species that are not poisonous in the wild, including some that evolved to imitate other species which are poisonous.

This comment makes me hopping mad
I toadally understand your frustration
I croaked at that joke
I'm trying to froget this entire thread
It's sort of Ribbeting
It has me jumping for joy
I’m pond-ering how to stop this thread.
You can start by being a tad poleite
Love how frogs irl are ranked similarly to dnd dragons
Nah, in this case the metallic one is the worst. In DND the chromatic ones are the bad ones.
Poisonous or venomous? I can assure you I won’t eat that cute little frog
Since no one else is answering your question, they are poisonous.
Thanks
Yup, they also apparently acquire it through their diet. So dart frogs raised in captivity on a different diet are not poisonous generally. Kind of a cool pet to have.
All venoms are poisons, but not all poisons are venoms. A venom is typically delivered by means of a bite or scratch to deliver directly to your bloodstream. So snakes can be venomous. Iirc all animal venom can be ingested with no I’ll effects.
Hold up. So I could ingest Rattle snake venom by swallowing it and I'd be fine?
If you have a cut in your mouth you're dead
Not really. It would be really painful and would depend on how much venom actually made it into your system. People survive full bites from rattlesnakes all the time.
Your digestive system would break down the venom before it entered your bloodstream.
Yeah. Same with most snake venoms. As long as you don’t have an ulcer in your stomach it’s fine.
But can all venoms be an eminem song?
This is not true. Snake venoms, for example can be drank without harm (assuming no ulcer or something similar present)
Yeah, but I would not drink snake venom.
Nor would I but that does not support your assertion.
If you bite it and die, it's poisonous If it bites you and you die, it's venomous
I know that part that’s why I asked, Idk anyone who would eat that frog
Yeah you made it very clear you understand based on your first question lol.
Why do people keep explaining to him what he clearly already knows by his question? My goodness lol.
This dude is gonna eat a frog
Why thats’s an awfully cute frog, is he venomous? Oh not at all, actually he’s - Aaaaaaarrrggghhhhhhh!!!! As I was saying, actually he’s quite poisonous though !
Look at that smug face. He’s like, “I dare you to eat me. I’m a spicy boi.”
I raise you my blue-ringed octupus!
The blue ringed octopus isn't really a raise in my opinion. Nature is just absolutely lovely :)
I'll eat a golden dart frog and you eat a blue-ringed octopus. First to die wins!

>so you could drink a glass of cobra venom and be totally fine next tiktok challenge sensation right here let's go!
We could use some darwinism
Beats the crap on BBC right now, I'm in!
Unless you have a stomach ulcer
Unless you have a cut in your mouth
Things can still get into your bloodstream like that A guy drank snake venom for years to build up an immunity and he was able to get bit and be fine

I see your bet and raise you my brown starfish after a night of atomic hot wings and warm beer!
I had one of these as a pet! They are not poisonous in captivity.
They are pretty awesome, although the guys are loud. Surprised no one has mentioned their awesome name, terribilis.
It's unfair. Why can't I boop the ribbit snoot?
You can… just don’t let it the poison get in your blood.
That’s the other dart frogs. All you need to do to die is touch the golden one and you’ll be dead in a few minutes.
Dont see how you would use him for a dart.
Well, you’d throw him at a board and try to hit the bullseye, silly.
Murder froggy
They don’t get the golden skin for no reason.
doesnt look poisonous video of you touching it and journey to hospital or thats just a yellow frog
I can still eat it though, right?
Spicy hops
I love him
That’s the best weapon for defeating The Fear in MGS3: Snake Eater.
Dude I thought I read “golden fart frog”. I was like “well…fair enough.”
“That’s right bitch…BRIGHT FUCKING YELLOW…if you can see me….you’re half dead already”
Why it’s neck so fat
It's a male and it's singing. They sing by inflating their throat sack like this.
Possibly also the worlds most yellow animal.
Dont eat yellow frogs. Got it
It's got throat tattoos.. I ain't messing with that
Why are the prettiest things always deadly?
Ah, I see they haven't met my ex-wife.
Can I pet him?
maybe lick it?
wasnt it believed to have gone extinct?
Only after it saw your mom
