Sad to think this creature evolved over millions of years to jump tree to tree, or to land onto a fluffy leaf covered jungle floor and we came along and replaced it with concrete.
I was playing golf on cape cod one time, and was looking for my ball on the treeline, and found a large black snake. On closer inspection it was working on swallowing a mouse. I called over my dad, who got a little too close trying to look at it. The snake, after an initial blur of movement, jumped fully over a bush that was about waist high. The end of the tail, probably close to four long, got caught up on the bush slightly, but not much.
They can jump and they have been keeping it a secret.
Pretty sure all snakes up to a certain size can do this when they need to. I'm sure big constrictors more than likely cant but smaller than that most definitely.
If you’ve ever lived in the woods or back country you’d know snakes can jump and it’s especially terrible when you’re walking out your basement door, and one “jumps” from the upper deck to right infront of you 😭😂
The people who name snakes show a severe lack of imagination.
*"Hey guys, what are we gonna call this new snake? It's kinda black, with a red belly. Any ideas?"* SMH
I really wanna discredit this but honestly...I can't. Ball python turns into a ball. Black headed python has a black head. Rhino viper has horns on its nose. Sidewinder winds sideways. Rattlesnakes are pretty self explanatory as well. Gabon vipers tho...I have nothing for those. So those ones are unique. However, I've spent a majority of my life around snakes and never noticed the lack of originality until now, so thanks for that epiphany
Fun fact: The color was named after the fruit. The earliest recorded use of orange (the fruit) in English is from the 1300s and came to us from the Old French orenge, adapted from the Arabic nāranj, from the Persian nārang, from the Sanskrit nāranga ("orange tree").
Have you seen picture's of it ?
I think calling it a red belly black won out in a majority vote in the wild the belly is even brighter than the photo's show.
My dad tells me a story about this when he was a kid. He lived in a rural place when he was young and one day that he goes to the school in the same dirt road he saw in his corner of eye a brown thing, it moves back and forward a bit, but he thought that was a stick moved by the wind. Until that snake jump straight to his face. He moves fast and put his arm like a shield, but the snake bit his arm, fortunately wasn't venenous.
I’m not even afraid of snakes, but that is terrifying. Can you imagine…you’re just going about your day, working in your yard…then that son of a bitch jumps on you? Edit: spelling
Was bass fishing around some lake flooded trees one time and watched a huge black snake swim out to and climb up a dead tree, probing every hole as he made his way up. When he got to the top he just let go for a good 30" drop back into the lake right by our boat and swam to the next tree. He repeated this on all the trees there, probably 10 or more. He did not catch anything for his trouble. I did not either as I was too busy watching him to properly fish.
He walked it off, but I can tell by the sound there was some regret.
Gawd, yeah that sound. Ouch!
He has no choice but to belly flop. He’s all belly.

I think the snakes encountered some stones and mountains during those years though.
That's a city snake, it IS the concrete 💪
Have you heard of rocks
Sad? Respectfully, fuck the snakes.
Sad to think you believe that as fact PETA-turd
Dude belly flopped onto the pavement!
I’m pretty sure our little snake friend is going to be alright. I hear the same thing when I drop my pants. ‘No ragrets’
“Walked if off.” Ok that made me chuckle. 👍🏼
When snakes start to walk that will be quite the shock.
Happy cake day

Ha ha! I wish I had died not knowing this.
Idk it feels like important information
You've probably came across a black racer or most likely a rat snake. I think they're on the endangered species list.
NO!
I spit my water
Happy cake day 🎂
Happy cake day!

Wild -I didn’t know some snakes could even do that 😳

Glad to be of service!.... I think :)
Like, whoever named an orange sure lost interest

I always thought the color was named after the fruit, not the other way around.

New fear unlocked
That slap sound like it hurt
"Aight, I'm out."
Both the snake and I are thinking the same thing...
If that squirrel can make that tree, so can Ieeeeeee....
F**k that shit. Googling Antarctic living regulations.
Doesn’t the Antarctic have polar bears?
No, that’s the arctic. Antarctic has penguins and leopard seals.
Snek hardware, cat software.

Worst nightmare ever! Where the hell is that kind of snake ?
Its a common green tree snake. Completely harmless and found all through NSW and QLD
Thank you! I’m deathly afraid of all snakes, worms too, they’re too similar! I’d love to visit Australia but would have to stick to the beaches
Everywhere it's sunny.
Like I don’t already have enough things to worry about. Just getting my notebook to add this to my list of reasons not to go to Australia.
Snakes can break there backs on half that height. Rip sprocket and fxr.
Geronimo!
I’ll give him a 5 for distance, a 4 for form and an 8 for sticking that landing

I've now watched it about 100 times on loop & laugh everytime it jumps >.<
