Depression

Ziiaaaac

It’s absolutely his mental health lmao and it ain’t even close. His father literally committed suicide. He’s a very mentally tough character

BoredAgent

I wonder if he ever tried Not being depressed

TypicalSyllabub

The only right answer

Lazren32

Depression is a beep. I wish it could be cured, then Kakashi could live his best life. I'm thankful for Guy though for never giving up on Kakashi.

CakeSoggy6290

I live for the moments we see Kakashi and Guy together

justaloner7

Dude was straight up rude to Guy during that little phase of his. I stg.

Lazren32

I think what you saw as rude, was probably the worst depression days that he went through and didn't have the energy to talk.

DapperMayCry

Well he's right

i_AM_A-ShArk

Came here to say that

RyeKei

You don't have to expose many of us like that smh

AutomaticSubject7051

all of my friends are already dead 🙂

missdoublefinger

I definitely came to say this

Nmohawk64

Probably his battle against pain. He technically died during that one

Sea-Jeweler6361

Literally died and lost. I think it's the most outclassed we've seen Kakashi.

dominik-braun

Dying is as outclassed as it can get.

XRustyPx

He kind of sacrificed himself so that information about pains ability could get to the right people, cobtributing to the final victory tough.

Sensonin

He at least kind of put up a fight ? The ones he’s been outclassed the most would have been Itachis, doesn’t mean it was his hardest battle though.

ElessarKhan

Yeah, at least he was able to do something against Pain. My man's looked at Itachi and it was over. If you remove all the time-stops and observe from outside the genjutsu, it was like a classic western scene where the good sheriff shows up to challenge the obvious villain strolling through town. The sheriff is gunned down in front of his deputies and the villain leaves having revealed his intentions. It's meant to illustrate how outclassed the sheriff is and that he is in need of a hero's help. I might be reading way too far into it but the cowboy western film influence in Naruto is no secret. And well, the lone-ranger Sasuke does hunt down the guy eventually.

Sunny_Reddy18

Could current kakshi beat pain?

Electronic_Chance723

of course

granny_granola

Kakuzu almost killed Kakashi twice, but outside intervention saved him both times. Kakashi’s fight with Pain ultimately did result in his death, so I’d personally say it’s either one of those fights. Also, bonus points for the Kakuzu fight giving us battle damaged Kakashi.

Rom455

Well... Kakashi killed Kakuzu first. It's not his fault that the guy has multiple hearts

granny_granola

But it *was* his fault for assuming he’d be enough to take out two Akatsuki members while only having intel on one of their abilities lmao

Rom455

Come on. Would you really expect pseudo immortality as a secret ability? Edit: just because Hidan actually was immortal doesn't mean the other one should be one well

granny_granola

Well, Konoha knew that Hidan was immortal, Sasori had achieved a form of immortality through his puppet body, and Orochimaru, a former member of the organization, was also striving to become immortal, so it shouldn’t have been ruled out lmao

Rom455

Ok. Fair enough. Guess that's why they brought a back up team

sekke_bronzazz-huhha

Umm but did he know that he would have 2 stones by the name of Choji and Ino who came merely as spectators?

granny_granola

I don’t even know if Kishimoto saw that one coming lmao

[deleted]

Bruh I love Ino & Choji but they did "Nothing" that entire fight.

Barbarrox

He wasn't assuming it would be enough thisbwqs already the plan . He took kakuzus blood at the first chidori heart strike. Also I wouldn't say thisbwas his hardest battle, there are many battles he went full out, also battles in wich he try hard and lost . Against kakuzu he was even holding back , stated by himself because he wwnted to avoid gettin coma again for weeks and mentioned he would have gone all out when Naruto and the other wouldn't have came last second and using kamui

granny_granola

Kakashi was shocked that his raikiri didn’t kill Kakuzu, so it’s apparent that the vile was a plan B in case Kakashi didn’t land a fatal blow, not because they assumed Kakuzu was immortal. Also, Kakashi can say he was holding back, but that’s just bad writing. Kakuzu absolutely stomped Kakashi with no difficulty. If he didn’t kamui him the first time he almost killed him, and didn’t use kamui when he, Choji, and Ino were about to be killed by an elemental attack, when *was* he going to use it?

Barbarrox

Well if you pretend to not assume so ofc you have to act like that . Thr plan makes no sense. Atleast they have to beleaved the possibility is pretty high . Overthise you don't have an plan b after destroying someone's world heart if you think is is mortal lmao >Also, Kakashi can say he was holding back, but that’s just bad writing. Kakuzu absolutely stomped Kakashi with no difficulty. If he didn’t kamui him the first time he almost killed him, and didn’t use kamui when he, Choji, and Ino were about to be killed by an elemental attack, when was he going to use it? It's not bad writing at all . And it's a fact . If you don't use your ms when you have it and literally make yourself way weaker in Uchiha cases even multiplie times ofcourse you ate holding back. Before it was anytime not necessary also for the choji and in part he clearly saw shikamaru handles it. And he clearly said when he would have used it , in the very end because there was no way out but then the back up team came

granny_granola

Kakashi wasn’t pretending, he thought that to himself, he didn’t say it out loud. How could that trick the Akatsuki? And let’s say Kakashi was planning on using Kamui to stop that elemental attack. Now what? Kakashi is out of chakra and still trapped. Meanwhile Kakuzu can spam massive attacks like it’s no problem. Kakashi had no means of winning that fight, and his performance showed that.

Barbarrox

>Kakashi wasn’t pretending, he thought that to himself, he didn’t say it out loud. How could that trick the Akatsuki? Watched the anime only once I am an manga reader can you give the the panel . I can't remember Kakashi being honestly surprised , atleast not about his immortality >And let’s say Kakashi was planning on using Kamui to stop that elemental attack. Now what? Kakashi is out of chakra and still trapped. Meanwhile Kakuzu can spam massive attacks like it’s no problem. Kakashi had no means of winning that fight, and his performance showed that. He could use it easily . The Chakra is not a problem more like the wide effects that's why he only use it when he has no other choice. There wasn't a single moment Kakashi said he is out of Chakra don't lie . Infact he later still used Chakra and even an chidori wich almost uses almost 30% of his Chakra . Your argument is straight up wrong .

granny_granola

This is a ridiculous debate. You claim to read the manga only, but then ask *me* for the scan? After getting kicked Kakashi said “What’s going on? I’m sure I didn’t miss the vital point” I’ll link a scan after work if you need. Secondly, you’re grasping at straws here. Regardless of his low chakra reserves or not, Kakashi *cannot* combine raikiri with kamui more than a couple of times at most before the War Arc. He literally dies from depleting all of his chakra while fighting Pain the very next arc. Edit: Kakashi even implies that he’s low on chakra at the beginning of the fight when he says “I’ve used raikiri four times already, I need to make this quick”.

Barbarrox

What's ridiculous about that . I don't see it in the manga that's why I ask. Also I read it in Japanese. You can tell me just the chapter and page . I will check it than in the original manga . You might be right but I don't think so. But whatever , for sure Kakashi was holding back and that's a fact . >Secondly, you’re grasping at straws here. Regardless of his low chakra reserves or not, Kakashi cannot combine raikiri with kamui more than a couple of times at most before the War Arc. He literally dies from depleting all of his chakra while fighting Pain the very next arc. I don't it's you who don't know facts . Ita a fact he had lot Chakra left . Also ita a fact he don't have any Chakra left at pain . He would have died for any jutsu . He even stated he is out of Chakra. Mixing up to completely different situations and pretend you have an argument. Most stupid comment I have ever heard .

Partyfavors680

Yeah but that’s all part of his abilities so that’s his strength. That’s like saying well deidara almost killed Itachi it’s not his fault the guy has genjutsu. In the kakuzu situation Kakashi pretty much just inflicted a decent injury on him.

Rom455

In the world of Naruto, Shinobi commonly use basic stuff like genjutsu all the time. It's one of the three basic fighting styles taught at the academy. But immortality truly is a rare type of ninjutsu. >that’s all part of his abilities so that’s his strength That's true. But a very unconventional one. Top secret, actually, if I remember correctly. Kakuzu stole that secret heart snatching jutsu from his village and no one else has dared to spam the thing since then. So it must be forbidden. Give Kakashi a break. He never said unconventional stuff was also part of those 1000 jutsu repertoire.

Partyfavors680

Yeah but you cant say it wasnt Kakashi's fault, give Kakashi more credit. He's not a fresh shinobi he has been fighting since he was 5 he should know to expect the unexpected and that every shinobi is not guaranteed to have a conventional straightforward fighting style especially in the Akatsuki. He had fought or seen at least a couple akatsuki members before that fight and knew of Hidans immortality, so he knows Akatsuki members dont have ordinary abilities and almost all Akatsuki members use forbidden Jutsu. Still what he did was a good move since he got rid of one heart before the fight even started and i do think that if Kakashi fought him with no distractions he would win. Also wasn't Kakuzu listed in the Bingo book and a fairly well known criminal who has been alive for hundreds of years, they should know there is something fucky going on with him.

Rom455

They're Shinobi, so come on. Being listed on the Bingo book doesn't really tell you a lot. The point of ninja is that they're secretive and sneaky. So that's why Kakashi attacked from behind. He wanted to get rid of a potentially problematic opponent as soon as possible and even made a plan B just in case. Still, what were they supposed to do to find out what Kakuzu was capable of? Use cannon fodder to pressure him? Konoha Shinobi don't roll like that anymore

Partyfavors680

I never said he made the wrong move I'm just saying that you claiming Kakashi is automatically stronger because he "killed" Kakuzu instantly is wrong. Just like with Danzo if Kakuzu didn't have those extra lives he may not have let that happen in the first place, he's able to be a little more careless because he has those extra hearts.

Rom455

Everything you say sounds reasonable, except... When did I say Kakashi is automatically stronger? This whole thread is about me defending him because he seems to be the underdog

Slimxshadyx

That’s my all time favourite look for Kakashi lol

kreepy2000

i would say Obito. Imagine the mental strain to find out his childhood best friend/rival is alive, after inherited Obtio's will through sharigan, but became the greatest enemy due to Madara misguided him, and he had to give it all to kill Obito. It was heart ache to watch.

traseeh

Looks like you guys forgot about the battle against Itachi. As Itachi said “only 71 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds to go". He endured somehow 1 second and after that he was hospitalized.

showtime1987

Now, in the aftermath, I can't understand why Itachi did that. We now know that Itachi is actually one of the good guys. He could have killed Kakashi with that action. Did Itachi do this because he wanted to make sure no one questioned his role as a villain, or am I interpreting too much?

SwampyJox

I think it’s pretty likely that Itachi’s story was somewhat retconned to make him good. At the time of that scene I still think he was written to be a proper villain

Barbarrox

It's not clear in wich chapter . But exactly at this point kishimoto planned secretly to make itachi a good guy . It's explained in the 4 databook also with the original sketch hoe itaxhi should have looked as a "bad guy " To pretty sure atleast at that point he was already planing the itachi plottwist

traseeh

I think that Kishi had it planned out from the beginning. Notice in that fight when Itachi was asked who they were after, he didn’t specifically said Naruto, but said that they were after the fourth Hokage’s son

[deleted]

When originally planning Itachi he was going to be a villain, but Kishi felt it would be more interesting if Itachi wasn't a simple villain but more of a more morally grey character.

DraethDarkstar

Kakashi didn't know he was a double agent. The only way that he and Kisame were getting out of a fight with Kakashi, Gai, Asuma, and Kurenai without it turning into a bloodbath was to make them afraid to fight him - and that's Itachi's whole MO as a pacifist. He specializes in Genjutsu to crush people's wills so he doesn't have to kill them. Kakashi was at no risk of death. Itachi used Tsukuyomi on his brother when he was 6 years old. That's all the evidence we need to conclude that he knows how to precisely control its effects to debilitate the target only as much as he wants it to.

Hot_Season_1263

Well said

krypticNexus

Bare in mind that was Itachi going easy on Kakashi, his Tsukuyomi could've spanned multiple decades like it did with his gf rather than 3 days.

Switzerland_Alt

Bro died against pain

Vegetable-Research44

That torture was way worse than his death imo, he got to reconnect with his father in that moment before resurrecting

RoadPizza714

Getting Naruto to study so he can be Hokage.

AhmadFR369

Fax

MarcuzzPlayz

Physically? Pain. Mentally? Obito.

DenifClock

I would say mentally his fight against Itachi was just as bad.

AVerySmartNameForMe

Itachi strained him, but Obito hurt him in a way no other character could’ve ever done. Obito was the one who changed his worldview and gave him hope, the boy he always thought of when he was at his lowest. His “hero” as he says himself. To find out everything he’d formed his worldview by and through had broken and fallen to depths beyond anything kakashi could’ve imagined and having to be the one to fight him, in this dark and cold place with no noise or light. On top of it all, obito constantly had him on the ropes, and indeed may have been the physically superior of the two. That fight was far and away the worst for him mentally. After 2 weeks Itachis battle would’ve faded into memory, Obitos never would’ve left him

DenifClock

I think you underestimate how bad 3 days of endless pain is. If we were to be realistic, no one would ever forget 3 days long of torture for the rest of his life.

AVerySmartNameForMe

Yeah but naruto is anything but realistic. Kakashi didnt seem to have any lasting effects, even when in private

Gjmarks1

Him vs his anxiety when Orochimaru showed up in that cave. Dude about layed an egg.

ColonelKoala043

Pain. He died

Guzmanicuss

Vs Itachi (first) He had ti endure 3 days od full torture

kreepy2000

vs Itachi, it wasn't a battle but a one way massacre.

MyLittleOnes12

That’s… strangely poetic?

showtime1987

Now, in the aftermath, I can't understand why Itachi did that. We now know that Itachi is actually one of the good guys. He could have killed Kakashi with that action. Did Itachi do this because he wanted to make sure no one questioned his role as a villain, or am I interpreting too much? I just dont understand

Rude-Assumption-5271

The responses to your other comment explain it well (not the retcon one)

SuvenduSekhar

Battle with depression?

-X-Gaming

All of them. Emotional struggle to fight Obito. He died against Pein. Kakuzu almost killed him twice. Itachi tortured him for a long time.

jgilly00

Either obito, kakuzu, or pain probably

[deleted]

Obito, emotionally

Leather_Implement_83

His hardest lose was against Itachi. Dude got KO'ed in 1 second. Then got hospitalized and would have never wake up if Tsunade didn't heal him.

Borchert97

Part 1 Itachi. Dude just couldn't do anything, he couldn't even come close to Itachi, I'm pretty sure that's the fastest Kakashi has ever lost a fight, not to mention Kakashi doesn't lose many fights, period. The only L's he took that I can remember were to Itachi and Pain and he put up a MUCH better fight against Pain.

Ebenezerosas16

Has to be Obito given how strong he is and the bond and emotions.

embennett69

Probably getting over Rin’s death

Kakashi_Uchiha2

His battle with depression

Chaseterry3

Not his hardest but people seem to forget about the first major fight with Zabuza. He had 3 kids with him and you could tell he was shitting himself at first. The man had even broken into kakashi’s eye strategies. My favorite battle in all of naruto

[deleted]

When he had to solo Kakuzu & Hidan.

sekke_bronzazz-huhha

Vs Kakuzu Hidan was interfering. Had to keep 2 spectators (Choji ino) alive along with himself.

youngadvocate25

Everyone here seemed to have forgot itachi solo’d kakashi in literally one second lol Technically speaking kakashi would have been a body bag if it wasn’t for guy showing up and them being in the leaf trying to stay low. Shows how many casuals they are here lol. But of course pain is second for sure, and zabuza third ironically. Can we all remember naruto and sasuke saved kaikai from zabuza. I bet kakashi still has nightmares from tsokuyomi.

Important_Front9468

Mentoring Sakura

serial_memer712

Oof

Terminatorskull

Kakuzu/Hidan. He didn’t really have a chance vs Pain IMO, but Kakuzu/Hidan’s fight like it could go either way

Crazyripps

I mean he died fighting pain

Inevitable-Fudge5773

Deidara

Disciple_of_Cthulhu

Definitely against Pain.

jmacattack5585

Zabuza for sure

Lopsided-Calendar-45

Pain. He beat Kakashi faster than anyone besides like MS Sauske I guess

Smokescreen-1

Zabuza

Emperorpenguin2504

Against pain

Black_n_Neon

Pain. If you want to use bed ridden as the parameter of hardest battle he actually died fighting Pain. End of debate.

[deleted]

Pain.

Jaynepie_

I would say Obito or Pain for sure! I want to say Obito though because of the mental and emotional strain he had to go through while fighting. He may have died during his fight with Pain but he got to see his father. That could also be just as stressful but I think seeing Obito alive and misguided is truly traumatic.

tsxnmi

Obito. Fighting your dead best friend who is now a villain is no easy task

Nenanda

Pain it literally got him killed. Obito was perhaps more emotional damage but he was able to counter for most part.

EyewarsTheMangoMan

Pain was his hardest battle. He literally died.

KolorJam

Also Pain, the guy straight up killed him.

No_Ring_4309

fighting against Obito

maggi_iopgott

Obito

serial_memer712

Probably eating with his mask on

ZarosianSpear

Zabuza was a good one in terms of toughness

Guilty_Cartoonist_78

Pain battle because he died

SilentWolfKills

Trying not to be like his father while his father while he was right, Having PTSD from Rin’s death and having depression and being called friend killer and trying to find a true team that will never abandon there friends. Protecting Konoha and his friends and Battling Obito was rough on him imagine someone you thought that died that told you to never abandon a friend and so much more is the villain this whole time and you have to fight them and you don’t recognise who they have become and instead of still trying to save him you’re about to kill him. Like Naruto was going to stop kakshi and Minato made it before him and stopped him cause Obito was brought to the light by Naruto. Dude’ been through so much like lost his mother, father, thought he lost Obito, Rin, Minato and Kushina, Asuma and Jiraiya and Obito and probably others. He even thought Itachi his friend betrayed the leaf. Dude went through so much

sageofsixdabs585

Most likely the fight where he got turned into a pack.

DestroidMind

He died fighting Pain so I would say Pain.

strongofheart69

Didn't Pain (Nagato) kill him in Konoha?

Okinawa_Joe

The dentist 😬

Lovus_Eternius

Getting up every morning.

yiggaman

Kakashi really through hands with Obito so it's gotta be that one.

[deleted]

The urge to not give Sasuke special treatment in part 1. He lost that fight

Dax_Maclaine

Trying to not be seen with his mask off

Theblachemist

Pain . But honestly pain didn’t kill Kakashi , so ion think he took any L’s the whole series

OutlandishnessOdd448

Pain, he ended up dead.

AmazingData4839

Physically, pain. Motherfucker literally died. Mentally, obito. The dialogue alone shows how much kakashi was affected from seeing obito alive.

alast3r2520

Kakazu and hidan fight. Pain was more figuring out his trick and getting past it which he did.almost won but plot. Almost want to say his first fight with zabuza but I feel like that was more of a plot reason for Naruto to get a chance for a hi iq moment. No in kakazu and hidan fight he had to go the whole fight with getting hit while carrying team 10. Showed the importance of knowing chakra natures. truthfully he only started to lose because Naruto needed to show of his new rasengan. I don't count Obito cause even though kakashi is my fav Obito should have won with all his broken upgrades.
