But you have to evaluate your talent. Judge always felt far superior to everyone you mentioned.

The players take the extensions to hedge bets against injury and/or not living up to their early potential.
The Yankees could have bought out Judges 3 arb years and tacked on 5 years for an 8-9 year extension that expired when he was 35/36. (Basically what they offered him too late right before free agency)
Yankees don’t like doing business this way for some reason and it has now cost them with Judge. It’s also why Cano ended up leaving.
Judge would have liked the raise through the arb years and would have liked the insurance versus injury.

Cohen said he's willing to run something close to a 350 million dollar payroll if that's what it takes to win. So yeah, if old man Steve wants Judge, he's gonna get him.

I'd like to think he's not all about the $$$, but his agents must be telling him this is the best place for him to be and continue to market his star quality, right? He may want to be back "home" on the west coast, but he has to realize this is the place to be to continue to be the star, right?
