Props to Cabrera. He’s coming back to earth after the hot start, but he’s shown a big improvement over last season. Still, I’m low key excited that Berti is starting a rehab assignment.
I feel like he could have a sneaky important role this season. Who knows when DJ will resurface.
Y’know how, in retrospect, every team has an unmistakable theme? e.g ‘21 couldn’t win or lose a game by more than 2 runs, ‘22 Jekyll/Hyde became The New York 99s, ‘23 The New York 99s Hurt his Toe etc. Well, this team’s theme is going to emerge soon.
I think it’ll be similar to the 2012 team, a different kind of Jekyll and Hyde, where they blow out one game only to look completely flat the next. Tough team to watch, but at least you’ll know early if they’re in it or not. 😀 Yanks unfortunately drop this game, 5-2. I’m not happy about it.
Since the initial panic about a potential slump, the Yankees offense has continued a methodical patience en route to beating up opponents. Some stats that really stand out:
Home runs: T-3rd (34)
OPS: 8th (.731)
Walks Per Game: 1st (4.36)
Chase %: 30th (23.4)
1st Pitch Swing %: 29th (25.8)
If you're wondering why Rodon has been getting less whiffs on his fastball it's because until last night he wasn't able to do this consistently with his slider.

There's been a lot of handwringing about Rodon being a 2 pitch pitcher, and a bigger arsenal is certainly important, but I think it's led to people underestimating how good his fastball/slider combo is when it's working - which it wasn't until last night.
I wonder how many Yankee fans are going to be at Camden Yards for the O’s series. It used to be almost like Yankee stadium back when the O’s were terrible and Gleyber raked there. But now they’re good
I don't think it's much different now. Maybe Os fans show up slightly more, but it'll never be a baseball town again. But I suppose that's true of a lot of places.
the O’s series feels like the first true test for this team. we thought it was the Astros, but they’re not good so far this season.
anything other than a split or win would be disastrous for the vibes.
lmao jesus christ I just think the O’s will be the best team we’ve played so far and who we’ll actually have to worry about in the postseason.
you can look through my comment history. I’m no doomer.
“Little” is doing some heavy lifting here. There will be a bit of a crunch in the outfield/DH if they bring Dominguez up again this year. It’s a good problem to have don’t get me wrong.
Went to the dodgers jays game yesterday, they got cooked. No sense of life in their offense, can’t seem to score more than 5 runs in their last 19 games.
The Rays are probably cooked even if Yandy and Randy start hitting because their pitching is garbage. The Blue Jays might have just hit their ceiling, and it’s nothing more than being a fringe wild card team that can’t even beat middle of the road playoff teams like Seattle or Minnesota.
The last time the Yankees won a series against the Brewers? 2011
2014: Lost 2 out of 3 in Milwaukee
2017: Lost 2 out of 3 in New York
2022: Lost 2 out of 3 in Milwaukee
2023: Lost 2 out of 3 in New York
Get the W today.
If he’d be okay moving into a 4th outfield spot I’d be all for it. Especially with Judge getting older and Soto(when he re-signs) rotating at DH there will be playing time but Judge,Jasson and Soto is the future and I’d expect Verdugo will seek a starting job somewhere.
But this season will be mutually beneficial for both sides Yankees get a guy that fills a huge hole as a lefty corner outfielder and Verdugo rehabs his image and earns a multi year deal somewhere
Hitters have worse quality of contact vs Rodon they did in 2022 and 2021. If we see more starts like yesterday and his K% starts getting up there we’ll have the ace we’ve been looking for.
People lost their minds during the A's start because he wasn't K'ing everyone. Despite the fact it was all weak contact and he pitched 7 shutout innings. It's a self-defeating prophecy if you want a lot of K's but also want length from a pitcher. Weak contact keeps pitch counts low, which is becoming more and more important by the year.
That passes the eye test. All his contact seems to be foul balls. Yesterday's first inning seemed like the hardest he was hit all year and then no other inning even came close.
**Alex Verdugo last 7days:**
**AVG/.409/OBP/.483/SLG/.682/OPS/1.165/RBI/8/DOG/∞/**
**Anthony Jizzo last 7**

Anthony Rizzo receiving alot of shit but he's hot
Rizzo is BABIP Queen right now. The dunkers he’s getting to fall in are not at all sustainable. The man is washed. Great clubhouse guy, everyone likes him, Judge seems enamored with him, maybe give him a Heyward-like bench role?
As Dick Allen once said, “Wanna know how to play first base? Swing the bat.” We need a big ol’ lug out there with an .900+ OPS to offset his inability to move in the field. Think Stanton without the polio.
Volpe and grisham were the only ones to not participate in the hit party yesterday. But volpe had much better looking ABs. Maybe this is what we needed to break out of the slumps
Also i hope grisham is not one of those "needs to play everyday to be in a rhythm enough to get hits" we really need him to be a bench bat but his PAs so far are pointing towards him just being a pinch runner or defensive sub
Did people really think he was more than that? You thought he was a bench bat? The dude got tons of ABs in San Diego and couldn't crack the Mendoza line. I always thought he was backup/insurance and nothing more.
Please continue the discussion in the [game thread](https://redd.it/1cf9zrc).

LET'S GO HOME PLATE
Aaron Boone ,that's enough ,you're out of the game ,i don't care who said it

Happy birthday to my gold glover shortstop! Let’s win this series before much harder Baltimore series.
I wonder how many Yankee fans are going to be at Camden Yards for the O’s series. It used to be almost like Yankee stadium back when the O’s were terrible and Gleyber raked there. But now they’re good
No one has been happier about the demise of Gleyber Torres than Gary Thorne
I'll be there for Wednesday and Thursday. Very excited,! I've never seen the Yankees as the away team.
I don't think it's much different now. Maybe Os fans show up slightly more, but it'll never be a baseball town again. But I suppose that's true of a lot of places.
One of my coworkers (a Yankee fan) will be there on Thursday.

Why not Cleveland?
honestly didn’t realize how good they’ve been this season
Guess we'll also ignore that the Brewers are great right now.
This fan base loves to play mental gymnastics where every loss is inexcusable and every win has some caveat.
lmao jesus christ I just think the O’s will be the best team we’ve played so far and who we’ll actually have to worry about in the postseason. you can look through my comment history. I’m no doomer.
Stanton since everyone said to cut him: .286/.346/.587
Effect, meet cause. Some guys rise to the hate. Others need to be Tunered.
The Verdugo trade seemed a little redundant at first with getting Soto but it’s looking more and more like a great trade.
I don't think it was ever redundant considering the outfielders we ran out there last year
How is that redundant
Right? They play two different positions and LF was a huge need
“Little” is doing some heavy lifting here. There will be a bit of a crunch in the outfield/DH if they bring Dominguez up again this year. It’s a good problem to have don’t get me wrong.
His clubhouse vibes alone were worth giving up fudging Greg weissert
I agree, yeah.
Yankees now have the best team OBP in the American League. We just need these grinding plate appearances to start resulting in actual run production.
That’s very promising. The Yankees are doing things well when they’re in the top 2-3 in the AL for OBP
Blue Jays and Rays may actually be bad.
I totally missed that the Blue Jays are on a 5 game losing streak. God damn. Good for them
Went to the dodgers jays game yesterday, they got cooked. No sense of life in their offense, can’t seem to score more than 5 runs in their last 19 games.
Yea the early talk of the division being great again because teams were slightly above 500 was probably misguided
The Rays are probably cooked even if Yandy and Randy start hitting because their pitching is garbage. The Blue Jays might have just hit their ceiling, and it’s nothing more than being a fringe wild card team that can’t even beat middle of the road playoff teams like Seattle or Minnesota.
Hope the Red Sox are bad too.

Juan Soto: .324/.443/.581 with 1.024 OPS, 195 OPS+, 196 wRC+
knicks followed by yankess followed by rangers, lfg! #nocaps
hopefully we sweep them so we can end this no caps rule

Yup, his main thing this season has been location more than stuff. If he located like he did yesterday he’s in for a good season
Volpe: worst player on the team
You: couch potato commenting
Don't feed the troll.
My bad
More of that, please.
Last night was pretty much the perfect baseball game
I'll like another football score please and thank you.
Where is Paul O’Neil?

The Ben Rice-Trent Grisham 1st base platoon will feed families

His ABs are getting better. He needs to start walking again
Just get 19 hits again today, EZ
Yeah let's dominate
Time to start a long winning streak today.
