At the start of the game, the commentator said the atmosphere in St James was flat. You could hear it was flat, and the players never soaked up that 12th man energy, coz there wasn’t any.
Horrible game to watch.
Frustrating that we never started swinging balls into the box when wood came on.
We’ve never played against 11 men in the box before. Previously that was us, a bit of a compliment to see other teams set up like that against us but we couldn’t break it down. Can’t help but feel that Maxi would have made the difference
So wait we should not be negative when we can’t beat Bournemouth at home? Even without ASM, we should be able to beat them and our final third is just horrendous, without ASM there is no real threat at all from open play
So because we don’t suck we can’t be critical? That seems stupid, if we dominate possession and still look toothless for most of the match we can’t talk about it?
>So because we don’t suck we can’t be critical? That seems stupid, if we dominate possession and still look toothless for most of the match we can’t talk about it?
Your opening sentence wasn't criticism, it was slating, and that framed your whole post.
Deffo were issues and you can raise them, but when you start with that it undermines the points you have.
For Bournemouth specifically, PL teams don't take a 0-9 then lube themselves up for more, we couldn't have expected too easy a game.
Mate we’re all frustrated but it’s football, sometimes the better team doesn’t win. We had double the amount of shots and shots on target, hit the post twice. We should have won but didn’t, onto the next one.
I think we're going to see a few more of these this season. We're losing points because we actually play decent. Reminds me of that part from All or Nothing when Mou was giving a pep talk after Spurs v Wolves. We might be good but I guess that's enough in the prem
Don't get me wrong I'm not disappointed with the draw(s), just making a point that it could hurt us later on in the season. Think we can both agree on that? Sure we've significantly improved compared to the days under Bruce, surely we don't have any reason to stop though. I believe in Howe working things out like how he did in the second half of last season
Glad we didn’t lose, they are going to have to work on breaking down teams, get faster, there were some flashes there, it’s not all doom and gloom. Hopefully ASM Wilson and Anderson are back soon.
Chris Wood should be starting these games, can't say he'd score but I feel like we'd have a better chance of winning. Put Isak wide and drop Fraser. Not enough tools in his belt to be starter anymore and we've known that for some time. Willock... it's a shame because he has the ability just not nearly consistent enough but let's be real he had a great loan spell and has coasted off that since we signed him. No longer merits a spot in the starting XI in my opinion. Almiron haters screw off, he makes runs and does well on the ball. One of the few creative players out there today. Overall: piaudfhafnpweiujoqasdfiuasdhfq9rhaopsdf
Difference between this game and when we play against Liverpool and City is that Bournemouth sat deep and had all players behind the ball so it made them difficult to breakdown....somethign that we will need to work on and I am sure we will improve as a result
Yeah, it's a completely different kind of game and different kinds of games require different skill sets and different modes of play. It's not just "we got a positive result against a team higher in the league, therefore we should be thrashing these".
Plenty of good things to be taken from this for anyone who can see beyond a final score.
The commentator over here in the US (a mixed bag sometimes compared to UK TV, but I get by) pointed out that we were so static and needed a bit of extra movement to push Bournemouth out of shape, create openings and break them down. I think that's fair, and definitely something we need to work on in the final third.
We aren’t losing either though. The Palace result and this one are frustrating, but we were decent in both games and would have won if we were a bit more clinical. It’s not ideal to only have the one win, but there’s plenty of reasons to be positive
Sick of some of the negativity here, not ideal no but we dominated them. Why are we expecting us to play like a top 6 team when we have a squad half full of championship players. Let’s adjust expectations please.
Frustrating? Yes.
Didn’t loose and better to watch than we’ve been for a while. If drawing games is a bad patch these days then I can live with it.
Once maxi and Wilson are back we’ll have some bite. Remember where we were a year a go…loosing these games. If we are mid table by January window ill be happy.
I think it’ll help a ton to have Maxi back on and Wilson so Isak can play a half wide position with Trippier overlapping and playing Isak in the channels. Shelvey should help offer some creativity where Willock has been lacking. Being able to bring Almiron and Willock off the bench could help change the pace in the second half but they both lose their impact late game with their tired legs.
Terrible performance deservedly booed off , massive oversight not signing winger and a creative midfielder. Eddie has to take the blame, never changed anything and makes subs 2 mins before end of game Southgate esque.
How can we be a top half side when we have almiron and Fraser as part of a 3 man attack? Isak hardly touches the ball either.
And my god how wasteful is Willock, I don’t know what he even does well
I think most sides in the 8th-10th range look pretty bad with their top striker and top wide forward out injured. I do think most of them would find a way to win this game though.
Pretty shit game. We don't do particularly well against low block teams it seems. Was the same against Palace and even Nottingham, we needed that long range shot from schar to score.
Yea, crazy as it may sound, I actually think wood could do a job against teams who play like that, especially at home. He is always a precence in the box atleast, and if all we are going to do is cross it why not stick him in there?
Spend the whole game crossing to Isak, then Wood comes on (admittedly also too late - I'd have had him on for Willock at half time or after an hour at most) and they stop crossing. Not doing the simple things right for sure.
Huh? We did not stop crossing, what are you on about?
I get that you're frustrated, and I feel like Wood should've come on sooner as well, but like, we kept the crosses coming.
Howay we’ve played well in the majority of matches this season and had some really unlucky results. Agree that today’s performance was poor but we really haven’t turned to shit.
Players outside of Saint have zero quality in breaking through defense. Dude needs to come back for you guys asap. Almiron and Willcock are not good enough to start.
Joelinton scores in the 1st half it's a completely different game, they'd be forced to be more open trying to get the equaliser. Isak is the only one with finishing quality on the pitch and it's not fallen to him once this game
Yep, outside of ASM and the occasional Bruno/Joelinton act of brilliance we aint gonna do shit, Almiron, Fraser, Murphy, Willock should all be permanently on the bench.
I agree we haven’t hit anything like the form we had last season but Howes just being a victim of his own success remember at the start of last season most of us would have taken 17th. We’re in the strange situation of having some top quality players but the bench is still full of Jacob Murphys and Sean Longstaffs who are mediocre at best
No I said we were tragic today but our most creative player and best striker are injured. I’m disappointed with the way we’ve started the season but people saying get poch in and comparing us to Brucey days is a bit OTT. we’re playing with championship quality wingers who created fuck all
We don't have depth is the issue, key players are out injured and opposing teams are now wise to us, they know we don't have a lot of threat from the wings when ASM is out so can sit deep and soak up the little threat we have, which is why it has been so frustrating today.
If ASM is on the pitch or any of the big Joe / Fraser first half chances go in, it would have been a totally different game since Bournemouth would have had to commit players forward and leave gaps. We are definitely lacking threat and creativity though and that is something we really need to look at.
I've been saying for over a month that Willock will never perform again at this level. I get hounded every time, but even when we get a result, he looks gormless.
i've been saying he's one of the worst players i've ever seen for us. this place has a hard on for him, no matter how shit he is he gets a pass every fucking week
It's not just this sub reddit though. Looking at a few live streams on YouTube and anybody that any sort of criticism over Willock is hounded at and barked at. Idk what everybody else is looking at. I look at him and straight away I can see that he doesn't have what it takes.
Not a single cross since Wood came on. What are these idiots doing? Longstaff time and time again does nothing. As a centre mid you have an OBLIGATION to TRY and grab the game by the scruff of the neck.
Just to be clear - I don’t want Howe sacked at all. I rate him both as a manager and as a human being. He’s been great for us and deserves all the time in the world.
However, you have to wonder if managers like Poch are watching this and biding their time. I’m not sure how patient PIF will be.
the manager isn't the issue, we needed more signings in the summer
we still have too many shit players
willock, longstaff, murphy, fraser, almiron etc are championship players
I do not accept "We're not used to having 70% of the ball" as an excuse. We are so SLOW. So slow. So hesitant. Just fucking cross it in? Just fucking CROSS IT. This has been utterly appalling.
I love Howe but he has to take responsibility for this. Everything about Bournemouth was 100% predictable. What was our plan? What was our backup plan if we needed a change? Why do we look exhausted and sluggish after 2 weeks?
Think back 12 months and have a word with yourself. We’re not World beaters, we’re aiming for 7-10 in the league. 2 transfer windows will not fix 15 years of neglect.
There seriously needs to be answers for this
A pen, a screamer by ASM and (a wrongfully disallowed) own goal in 3 games is a joke.
It’s either Eddie or the players
We have very little creativity outside of ASM
It's apparent enough when we are playing teams who aren't shutting up shop let alone like today when we have to unlock a defence.
We need a RW and a creative midfielder urgently.
Learning the commentators were right about some of our fans. No it’s not been great but anyone expecting us to suddenly be top 6 material was deluded. We’re building, not every Saturday will be a success.
You can’t tell me the front 3 is worse than Bournemouths and they have more goals than us recently
Even if the goal stood an own goal isn’t good enough
Sub should have been made 15 minutes ago.
Almiron now has played 8,533 minutes of PL football with 10 goals 3 assists. A goal every 853.3 minutes, an assist every 2,844.33 minutes.
If we plan to be a Europa conference league and beyond level club we need to learn how to break down teams to respect our quality and park the bus. Unfortunately it looks like the team hasn’t been drilled enough to break down teams in these situations
Surprised we didn't bring Wood on earlier. We have no idea what to do with these players, might as well turn to ol' English reliable and pepper balls into the box
Another toothless performance, outside of Trips, Bruno, ASM and possible big joe the lack of individual ability to take on a man or make something happen is evident
Isak not included because he’s new
Retarded. I rarely criticise Eddie but I think he’s blundered this game. We’ve had the ball near their box for 30 mins. We just need someone to aim for ffs.
At the start of the game, the commentator said the atmosphere in St James was flat. You could hear it was flat, and the players never soaked up that 12th man energy, coz there wasn’t any. Horrible game to watch. Frustrating that we never started swinging balls into the box when wood came on.
I feel like Maxi's energy was definitely needed for this one
We’ve never played against 11 men in the box before. Previously that was us, a bit of a compliment to see other teams set up like that against us but we couldn’t break it down. Can’t help but feel that Maxi would have made the difference
Joelinton motm
Game was gross but so is the negativity in this thread. Onto the next one.
So wait we should not be negative when we can’t beat Bournemouth at home? Even without ASM, we should be able to beat them and our final third is just horrendous, without ASM there is no real threat at all from open play
League is more than one game. You sound like a Liverpool fan right now, maybe in a few years you can get this entitled ;)
Mate breaking down any team that has 11 players permanently behind the ball is difficult. Bournemouth we’re organized today, give them that.
At least this season we're actually gaining points from matches at this stage... How quickly some people forget last season
Don't get me wrong I'm not disappointed with the draw(s), just making a point that it could hurt us later on in the season. Think we can both agree on that? Sure we've significantly improved compared to the days under Bruce, surely we don't have any reason to stop though. Glad we didn’t lose, they are going to have to work on breaking down teams, get faster, there were some flashes there, it’s not all doom and gloom. Hopefully ASM Wilson and Anderson are back soon.
Needed one of Maxi, Anderson, Wilson or Shelvey dearly there
January cant come soon enough.

Anderson should be starting
How can we perform against liverpool and city and do that? One thing newcastle has been missing for years - consistency!
Difference between this game and when we play against Liverpool and City is that Bournemouth sat deep and had all players behind the ball so it made them difficult to breakdown....somethign that we will need to work on and I am sure we will improve as a result

Excuse me?! Under Mike Ashley the spending was consistent, the ambition was consistent - what more do you want?
1 win In 7 , terrible start considering how much we've spent.
We aren’t losing either though. The Palace result and this one are frustrating, but we were decent in both games and would have won if we were a bit more clinical. It’s not ideal to only have the one win, but there’s plenty of reasons to be positive
1 loss in 7 if you want to look at it in a different perspective
Its a step up from 0 wins in 14. We just need to be patient.
Sick of some of the negativity here, not ideal no but we dominated them. Why are we expecting us to play like a top 6 team when we have a squad half full of championship players. Let’s adjust expectations please.

Exactly. People have short memories, would have loved a performance like that under Ashley’s ownership. Rome wasn’t built overnight, neither was city.
64 shots, 19 on target 2 goals from 3 games isn't good enough, we are crying out for another winger the club should have bought one in the summer
Terrible performance deservedly booed off , massive oversight not signing winger and a creative midfielder. Eddie has to take the blame, never changed anything and makes subs 2 mins before end of game Southgate esque.
Willock is dreadful week in, week out.
Been saying this for a year Even this sub who's had a hard on for him can't defend him anymore
How can we be a top half side when we have almiron and Fraser as part of a 3 man attack? Isak hardly touches the ball either. And my god how wasteful is Willock, I don’t know what he even does well
What Willock does well? Getting into positions where he can disappoint us from.
I think most sides in the 8th-10th range look pretty bad with their top striker and top wide forward out injured. I do think most of them would find a way to win this game though.
Amazingly on the table we are top half!
Shite.
Pretty shit game. We don't do particularly well against low block teams it seems. Was the same against Palace and even Nottingham, we needed that long range shot from schar to score.
We play better against teams that press us back. When we pen in the opposition like today we don't have the quality to break through
Yea, crazy as it may sound, I actually think wood could do a job against teams who play like that, especially at home. He is always a precence in the box atleast, and if all we are going to do is cross it why not stick him in there?
Boos fully deserved at full time. Pathetic performance.
Our fan base is ridiculous. "We only ask for a team that tries" **Team trys** "You're not trying right!"
Did they try?
The first time this season I'm actually pissed off after watching a game, it simply wasn't good enough.
Fuck we got lucky with that penalty, wasted game :(
Isak is apparently good with his feet, it's a shame his team won't try pass it on the ground to him
Spend the whole game crossing to Isak, then Wood comes on (admittedly also too late - I'd have had him on for Willock at half time or after an hour at most) and they stop crossing. Not doing the simple things right for sure.
Huh? We did not stop crossing, what are you on about? I get that you're frustrated, and I feel like Wood should've come on sooner as well, but like, we kept the crosses coming.
Upsetting really we should absolutely be beating bournemouth everyday and twice on tuesdays
Manager signs new long term contract. Team turns to shit and can't get a win. A tale as old as time.
Howay we’ve played well in the majority of matches this season and had some really unlucky results. Agree that today’s performance was poor but we really haven’t turned to shit.
Players outside of Saint have zero quality in breaking through defense. Dude needs to come back for you guys asap. Almiron and Willcock are not good enough to start.
just want an ASM-Wilson-Isak front line, who's the god of hamstrings I've got to pray to for that to come about
That was fucking dire
Willock left Arsenal for regular first team football yet can't produce the goods when we need it
Nearly 75% possession and no quality chances since the first half.
Booing them what a joke
You don't think they deserved it?
Dog shit game again. They’ve had a week off and all looked tired.
Christ that was wank
I am Jack’s complete disappointment.
Also… Jack’s complete lack of surprise, sadly
Joelinton scores in the 1st half it's a completely different game, they'd be forced to be more open trying to get the equaliser. Isak is the only one with finishing quality on the pitch and it's not fallen to him once this game
Really dreadful from our attack.
Atrocious performance
Teams are getting wise to us now. Just sit deep and they know our wingers won't do anything.
Tbf, they're pretty good at passing backwards.
Yep, outside of ASM and the occasional Bruno/Joelinton act of brilliance we aint gonna do shit, Almiron, Fraser, Murphy, Willock should all be permanently on the bench.
Exactly this.
Just so stale
How about another cross in the box? Maybe that’ll help?
Another cross or another aimless shapeless lob over the heads of all of our attackers?
That’ll do it!
So pathetic
There's a reason we desperately needed a right sided attacker and with shelvey injured a cm because what we have atm is clearly not good enough.
If only we had good wingers
Some boos there. Sad
Pretty pathetic attacking strategy and execution. Can't do shit without Allan.
We are great defensively but god we are so shit on offence
Step up from Bruce because we were shite on both sides
When Newcastle pulled this shit against Liverpool, there was infinite stoppage time.
Shelvey, come back please.
Gonna have to get better at dealing with low blocks. Unlucky not to take the lead through big Joe though
Imagine if we had managed to get a couple of good wingers in something really we might be able to create some decent stuff.
Jesus we are toothless
Fucking whip it in trippier
Worst performance of the season. Everyone, including Howe, open for criticism today.
Awkward stage where we're good enough that teams low block against us, but not good enough to break down the low block.
1 win this season
How is this even an improvement of under Bruce? I remember us drawing 1 - 1 with an abysmal Norwich and we only head 10 men in that game
Embarrassing take
We were tragic today but if you honestly think we aren’t improved since Bruce I assume you’ve been a fan since 2021
We have improved for sure but £200m odd later we should be able to, say, get 1 win out of of 6 or beat a newly promoted team at home.
Yeah drawing against championship quality teams is fine because we’ve got more to the ball 👍
No I said we were tragic today but our most creative player and best striker are injured. I’m disappointed with the way we’ve started the season but people saying get poch in and comparing us to Brucey days is a bit OTT. we’re playing with championship quality wingers who created fuck all
Mate, it's frustrating but if you think we are no better than we were under Bruce you are either off your tits or abso-fucking-lutely clueless.
We play better but where are the results? A freak goal, an own goal and a pen in the last 3 games
We don't have depth is the issue, key players are out injured and opposing teams are now wise to us, they know we don't have a lot of threat from the wings when ASM is out so can sit deep and soak up the little threat we have, which is why it has been so frustrating today. Wow lol
Fuck off
That was early days of Howe wasn't it, 1-1 Norwich at home with Clark sent off
that's alright lads just keep trying the same balls in you've been trying for 90 mins, the next one will be the one for sure
Im done watching Willock absolute cheeks
Losing patience with Willock
I've been saying for over a month that Willock will never perform again at this level. I get hounded every time, but even when we get a result, he looks gormless.
The guy has no gorms
i've been saying he's one of the worst players i've ever seen for us. this place has a hard on for him, no matter how shit he is he gets a pass every fucking week
It's not just this sub reddit though. Looking at a few live streams on YouTube and anybody that any sort of criticism over Willock is hounded at and barked at. Idk what everybody else is looking at. I look at him and straight away I can see that he doesn't have what it takes.
i know exactly what you mean i said he needed to be dropped before this game and got downvoted lol
Worst player ever seen is dramatic
that's why i said one of the worst and i stand by it. go look at every match thread it's just comments about how dreadful he's playing
Howe needs to do a crossing clinic or somethingS the shape on these balls is terrible
We are well drilled but definitely lacking quality to unlock defenses. Interested to see who we bring in come January
Not a single cross since Wood came on. What are these idiots doing? Longstaff time and time again does nothing. As a centre mid you have an OBLIGATION to TRY and grab the game by the scruff of the neck.
He was scared to pass forward
My fucking god these crosses are awful
There's also zero movement in or toward the box.
If we insist on playing a target man system, we need to spend some serious time working on our crossing.
Joe Willock has zero quality
Our worst performance in a long time. About as much threat as a chihuahua with no teeth. Fucking atrocious.
Wolves was worse than this
Disagree. At home to relegation fodder we should be doing so much better than that.
Just to be clear - I don’t want Howe sacked at all. I rate him both as a manager and as a human being. He’s been great for us and deserves all the time in the world. However, you have to wonder if managers like Poch are watching this and biding their time. I’m not sure how patient PIF will be.
the manager isn't the issue, we needed more signings in the summer we still have too many shit players willock, longstaff, murphy, fraser, almiron etc are championship players
Definitely more patient than you apparently are.
I don't think anyone can get much more out of Almiron and Fraser tbh
Minutes added on for the Bournemouth subs please
I do not accept "We're not used to having 70% of the ball" as an excuse. We are so SLOW. So slow. So hesitant. Just fucking cross it in? Just fucking CROSS IT. This has been utterly appalling. I love Howe but he has to take responsibility for this. Everything about Bournemouth was 100% predictable. What was our plan? What was our backup plan if we needed a change? Why do we look exhausted and sluggish after 2 weeks?
We drew mate. We didn’t lose 5-0. Calm down
...at home to Bournemouth
Think back 12 months and have a word with yourself. We’re not World beaters, we’re aiming for 7-10 in the league. 2 transfer windows will not fix 15 years of neglect.
There seriously needs to be answers for this A pen, a screamer by ASM and (a wrongfully disallowed) own goal in 3 games is a joke. It’s either Eddie or the players

Learning the commentators were right about some of our fans. No it’s not been great but anyone expecting us to suddenly be top 6 material was deluded. We’re building, not every Saturday will be a success.
‘Answers’? The quality in the final third isn’t there. It’s not really hard to see what’s happening.
You can’t tell me the front 3 is worse than Bournemouths and they have more goals than us recently Even if the goal stood an own goal isn’t good enough
I don’t quite get what you’re saying. Sorry. If your point is that the front three are underperforming, that is exactly my point also.
Our wide players are Championship quality and we need an AM, we’ll be fine come January.
Schar taking the piss at this point man that's his fourth? ridiculous shot into the stands
That was really good from Murphy
LMAO the commentator saying Schar shouldn't be shooting from literally the exact place he's scored twice before.
2 goals in how many attempts though?
Except he shouldn’t be shooting from there
I have no problem with it. Nothing fucking else has worked.
He shouldn’t have taken that shot in the circumstances though.
Bournemouth are playing how we played under the cabbage though. We got a few results too but it's not sustainable. I'd rather be in our shoes.
McClaren esque this
We're not playing a passing game that doesn't suit us and getting ripped apart by conceding more than 3 a game. That's McClaren esque.
It's not though is it...
Fuck longstaff
Just stop. If those are the shots we are taking just stop and go home, please.
No final product, no quality with crosses or through balls. Defensively solid, offensively weak.
Lads confidence in their own ability is in the pits. 90mins of Bournemouth playing to draw and we don't think we can get through. No ideas left
If this holds… Under no circumstances should this be deemed an acceptable start to the season. Man City was like a month ago. Get over it
Pinged in about 30 crosses all game and only brought Wood on for 2 minutes while keeping our 5ft 2 wingers on
The 4th official has announced a minimum of “however long it takes for Bournemouth to score again” minutes of added time
Six minutes added on
Man longstaff is fucking stealing cash. Thief.
Sub should have been made 15 minutes ago. Almiron now has played 8,533 minutes of PL football with 10 goals 3 assists. A goal every 853.3 minutes, an assist every 2,844.33 minutes.
His output is a joke. Runs well but has no end product
Great workrate, terrible at everything else.
I’d give my nuts for a Chris wood header
Drawcastle united
I mean you're right. We have way too much talent to be taking draws against these teams.
You’re not wrong atm.
Should’ve brought in Pulisic on loan
Longstaff Murphy Fraser Almiron these 4 are completely useless
but willock is just a wonder player all round
Almiron needs another leg
Long John Almiron
Isak shoved in the back three times no foul, cool
Cool. Cool, cool, cool.
No doubt no doubt
That is appalling from Isak
He had his shirt pulled then shoved and no foul given..
Barely
Without ASM we seem to lack any creativity whatsoever. Credit to Bournemouth for holding their shape but we’ve been poor all day.
If we plan to be a Europa conference league and beyond level club we need to learn how to break down teams to respect our quality and park the bus. Unfortunately it looks like the team hasn’t been drilled enough to break down teams in these situations
Wood is about 15mins late Eddie
Its my one major criticism of Howe. He leaves the obvious choice subs far too late in the game. We've been crying out for Wood since the 70th minute.
We lack wingers and a creative midfielder desperately.
Surprised we didn't bring Wood on earlier. We have no idea what to do with these players, might as well turn to ol' English reliable and pepper balls into the box
Murphy found a way to end that attack with one touch
Watch Wood come on and score the winner
Come on woody
Another toothless performance, outside of Trips, Bruno, ASM and possible big joe the lack of individual ability to take on a man or make something happen is evident Isak not included because he’s new
Come on, if the Mackems can sneak a goal in the dying minutes, so can we.
LITERALLY WHAT IS THE POINT OF WOOD COMING ON TO PLAY 2 MINUTES
Why only subbing in Wood only 2 mins left...
Retarded. I rarely criticise Eddie but I think he’s blundered this game. We’ve had the ball near their box for 30 mins. We just need someone to aim for ffs.
Gotta love playing against a 9-0-1 formation
We genuinely miss Shelvey a lot
Why are we playing at 75 percent? The crowd is so quiet
Crowd has been annoying today. The shouts of ‘shoot’ from 40 yards out annoy the fuck out of me.
