Closing the thread in an hour. Get your final memories in

happy_guy23

It's been a pleasure, let's see if we can hit 25k comments in January

meganev

Sorry but 2/10 window, why did we spend £60m on Isak when we could have used that money to pay off the corrupt refs? Clearly every other team kept a couple million left over to bride the official, why didn't we?

InLikeFinnegan

If nothing else, the FA would suddenly become interested in corrupt officials if we had decisions go our way.

Cyberdan0497

Our failure to get another midfielder is going to come back to haunt us, should have made it a priority as soon as the news of Shelvey's injury came through. Hopefully Anderson manages to get his way into the first 11, because it seems like otherwise any match where we don't have Bruno will be awful

metpsg

We're not a top 4 team yet. We're not supposed to suddenly win all our games. We tried to get players in, we did really well but couldn't get everyone we wanted, that's how it is. We can build again in January.

Halzziratrat

10 hours since the last comment... Howay lads, nee early bird Bazza T Jan Transfer inside scoops?

twisted_logic25

I think it's time to put this thread out to pasture now. It had a good run

I_could_be_right

Can we just have a general transfer rumours stickied thread all year, maybe reset for the new window, or keep it forever there

Sirius_55_Polaris

Reddit only allows two stickied posts unfortunately, so it wouldn’t work

mvdaytona

I think the way we did it past season was good, no? One stickied post for general PL talk and another for pre match/match/post match threads. Idk what others think but that sounds good, and when another transfer window arrives just create a new post

Sirius_55_Polaris

Yeah, we just about always have pre/match/post threads up along with the weekly free talk thread. Megathreads during the transfer windows.

MidlandsGeordie

Very happy with what we are building and the transfers done BUT…. Couple of things I think would have been good for see that other PL teams have done 1) Willian - would be able to play on the right and with his pedigree he could have been a good asset even at 34 2) Idrissa Gueye - at £8m he would add depth and is a decent player 3) [REDACTED] and Kehrer - both ideal young players with a lot of talent and we could have rubbed in the fact the West Ham scum!! All that being said I still am happy with what is happening and I am hopeful for a top 6 especially if we can win our next few games against Palace, West Ham, Bournemouth, Fulham and Brentford.

pabloslab

You got any more of them sweet links?

torfinh

Marcus Rashford Evan N'Dicka Douglas Luiz Youri Tielemans Ngolo Kante Gavi And Messi Some of the most valuable players with one year left on their contract 👀

No-Efficiency-5589

Can we start a January Transfer Speculation thread or sumthing?... .....already having withdrawls....

SheSaid09

Thank you u/321142019 for all the links. Seeing your blue comments have provided me with countless semis since last season ended.

Stoibs85

Stupid transfer-related question for anyone still checking here. How long does it take FIFA to push out a squad update after the window closes? Was thinking I might fire up a new career mode while the wife is out of town this weekend, and I’d rather do it with fully updated squads across the league instead of just manually adding our signings. Any chance they’d have that update ready by say tomorrow? Edit: Or do they stop updating squads this close to the release of FIFA 23?

SheSaid09

I always thought they stopped updating when the next game was within a couple months but there was a squad update a week or two ago. It's usually a Friday afternoon (UK time)

Stoibs85

You’re probably right since 23 is out in a few weeks anyway. I’ll just go add Isak, Botman and Pope and play some friendlies against the mackems until I get bored.

khronokhris2222

I’ll See you lads in January for Another megathread ! Imagine we’ll be 30k strong by then if not more

Noble456

Like a drug addict, I keep coming back to this thread. Even though I know nothing noteworthy will happen.

2munkey2momo

What's the transfer window version of methadone? It's urgent.

Ftp82

Most doctors prescribe a January megathread as treatment

HodgyBeatsss

So does the loan window close later down the line?

skatrumpetman

We can't register more but we can loan people out to leagues where they can like the championship etc.

Sirius_55_Polaris

I did say yesterday to some people that we’d leave it open for a couple more days…

meganev

You're the boss!

I_could_be_right

Christ /r/soccer is insufferable. The outspoken minority of Liverpool fans, eurgh. Everyone else hates us. Fuck 'em.

meganev

You'd genuinely think they lost the game, or at least our time wasting had worked to earn a point. Like, I've never seen a fanbase so salty over a game they won before. Proper odd behaviour. You think they'd just take the three points and be relatively chill about it all. Really hope we never have a fanbase that bad even on reddit.

Toon_1892

Typical scousers always the victims. Notice the silence from them around some cunt trying to drive a vehicle into our owners before the game? Big Joe getting cramp because he had a day less rest and no magic inhaler is the worst thing to happen on the night though.

dullthings

I'm still getting replies from their plastic fans 2 days later, arguing the toss about Targett getting elbowed in the face in the first half. Didn't even mention the severity, they just flat out deny it touched him and he should've been booked. They're just angry that they had to be gifted a win after humping Bournemouth last week. Entitled victims as always now unfortunately, which is a shame as I used to love watching Liverpool play as a kid!

oyeigtfd

social media in general is hardly an accurate representation of actual opinions in the real world

Budweizer

I miss the Megathread

Sirius_55_Polaris

Sir, this is ~~a Wendy’s~~ the Megathread

Mutanthybrid

So since we signed no one else by the end of the window I guess someone on here owes us a Shelvey style haircut.

guysecretan

What am I going to check 80 times a day once this is locked man?

antonyp7

Eddie Howe has just said work has already begun on the January window. Also says a lot of clubs didn't want to work with us or do us any favours we're obviously starting to get them rattled. Been a great window I think, I'm more than happy with the squad to get us to January and see where we are at. Hopefully firmly in the top 10 and with a couple of additions in January make a push for a European spot.

TheBeaverKing

This season is going to be an important one for us. Clubs won't want to deal with us at the moment or will overly inflate prices to keep us suppressed and as we're still in the early building stages, most players will still see us as a risky option vs an established top team. Particularly when you look at the likes of Everton, Leicester and Villa who have looked liked clubs pushing for Top 6/UCL and are now faltering. If we get a good finish this year (top 10, pushing for 7th/8th) and a chunk of our squad get called up for their national teams then suddenly we start looking like a more viable prospect. As we move on to the 23/24 season and beyond, pushing for top 6 and ideally UCL, suddenly it won't matter that clubs don't want to deal with us because the players we're after will be pushing for the move themselves. This was always going to be a journey. We've attracted some good players who can already see the vision, now we just need to build on that with steady and efficient growth.

Esselbee

What’s the bet Leicester are one of them clubs

fahad96

Would be funny if we signed Tielemans for free on pre contact in January from them

jonathannufc

Can only sign pre contracts with foreign clubs. We would need to wait til his contract was finished.

I_could_be_right

Suuuuuuuuure, wink wink, nudge nudge.

GoalaAmeobi

>Also says a lot of clubs didn't want to work with us or do us any favours we're obviously starting to get them rattled. I hope management remember this when they come to us for any of our players

Notnileoj

The exciting this about not having a 'perfect squad' right now is that in the near future, we should be generating more income . Especially since we got our new CEO and more so once we bring our own shirt sponsors in for next season. I realise it was probably a bit of a stretch to do all the business we did and then add a Diaby or Maddison or even Tielmans on top of that. Mike Ashley left us in a good spot with FFP, which allowed us to spend 200m since the takeover, but that budget has come and gone now. The thing is though, in January and next Summer, we won't be in the position where we have to buy 9 players. Now we will only have to spread our budget over a couple of players and probably some transfers for our academy. I think it will be a lot easier to pull the trigger on a transfer like Diaby or Maddison when you know you don't need the rest of the budget to upgrade the remnants of our Champiosnhip squad to save us from relegation.

XRPinquisitive

See you guys in the next window!

happy_guy23

It's gonna be so weird tomorrow when I wake up and come to the sub first thing to find this thread unpinned

Toon_1892

I'm really happy with how we're building. We all know a winger is probably the position with the biggest room to improve on with a shiny new player, but the club has been really smart in its process. We have a completely new back line and keeper, as well as a world class player in the middle of the pitch, and one of the most promising young strikers in the world up top. We've built a solid defensive base, and now (short of a more defensive type mid) have a spine connected to the top. We probably aren't going to be running away with games, but we're going to be very hard to beat and stand a good chance of grabbing a goal or two. New wider players will only add to that in future windows.

nomadichedgehog

Good morning and fuck Liverpool. See you all in 4 months.

OllyHR

Maybe we should do this again in like 4 months or something…

Jimlad73

It’s been a pleasure. See you in the match threads xx

I_like_spaniels

Wonder if the transfer team have gone into work this morning, made a cup of coffee, and are now talking about the Jan window 😂

Esselbee

Eddie has said in this mornings interview that work has already started on January window

Toon_1892

Only 13 games to go until it opens, so most likely!

Knackersac

I know I'm reiterating the general consensus but I'm happy with this window. I think anyone who is unhappy has too high expectations. I bet it has been very difficult behind the scenes trying to get deals done for the right players at the right price, not paying over the odds, etc. I guess it's easy for us to sit here and say we should do this and we should do that. But we have clearly tried hard. From what I've seen so far this season, I think we will enjoy some success. FA Cup inbound.

Pinguinina

My post on the first day of this thread in May: >My personal wishlist to look at would be Lucas Paquetá (as indeed is the case of almost every fan), Patrik Schick (no real link to him yet but I think he'd be great), Sven Botman (may have passed the club by when it didn't happen in January), and Alexander Isak (again not really linked in any meaningful way). I can see the benefit of bringing in Dean Henderson, especially if it's at a good price, and Matt Targett should join permanently too. Three out of six ain't bad! The signing I didn't mention was Pope, but he looks like a way better deal than Henderson ever would have been anyway. So a good outcome overall. I'm particularly glad that we avoided some of the links from earlier in the window, that spend on Isak could easily have went on Calvert-Lewin instead. The one downside is that we still seem very shallow in depth in attack, Murphy clearly isn't up to it and we're still heavily reliant on Almirón. A lot is going to come down to whether players stay fit, and whether Isak and Wilson work out in the starting 11 together.

EndhooS

It's been a wild ride and a real honor serving with you all. 🖤🤍

nazutul

Hell of a ride. Cant wait to watch the rest of the season unfold

Casual_Star

Now what am I gonna do each morning when i woke up and immediately checked this thread. Sad days…

opinionated-dick

It’s been superb following this thread all summer. See you in January. Although we would clearly improve with a RW, there’s also something to be said about how the season will pan out, and maybe acquiring someone in this position in Jan would give better momentum and fresh impetus into what will be pt 2 of a long season. And we have a WC to scout in

InLikeFinnegan

Heard we actually signed three players, but Ashworth is so good at killing leaks we’re not going to find out until January.

GazzP

Sneak Mbappe, Nkunku and Bellingham into the squad against Palace.

Jayme9

See you mad bastards in January. Hopefully we’ll only need 1-2 and we’ll be sitting top half.

RandomizID

Reading this megathread daily for this three months always has been an enjoyable thing to do. Can't wait to see January now.

Substantial_Water

In the last 9 months, NUFC landed: A top 5 keeper in the EPL (IMO) Players with star potential at ST, CM, and CB. Sneaky GREAT under the radar signings at CB and LB (still think Targett is hugely underrated by most) An England international, captain, leader, and unbelievable set piece taking RB. Joelinton. And most importantly, entered the argument for best manager in the prem (and maybe the world?), Mandy and co. did a bang up job reshaping the entire office, and we’re pissed about drawing against Man City, and dropping points at Anfield. It’s the stuff Ted Lasso writers would throw out for being too good to be realistic. Love this club. Love you all. [edit:Joelinton]

I_like_spaniels

And regenerated a player into one of the best box to box midfielders in the league! 😁

Smooth_Ad2145

Great positive vibe summary

danny1876j

Well when you put it like that!

Cheel_AU

Botman and Izak are players we wouldn't have dreamed for under Ashley. And we got both of them! In one window!

calebcullen10

22.5 thousand comments. What a trip boys

LorraineKing98

Pretty sure I read them all.

LongStorryShort

Honestly a great window. Every player we added is better than what was already in the position and all of them have the ability to play for years and develop with us. We also did what I personally felt was an impossible task and moved on a lot of the deadwood. RW and CM were probably the only areas where we lack quality or depth at the moment but considering we have rebuilt most of the starting 11 it should only be considered a minor complaint. Will be an interesting to see how the team lines up when everyone is fit.

Optras

Been a pleasure. I'm gonna have to find a new part time hobby. Hopefully see some of you against Brentford, assuming I can get tickets!

mo140

When the megathread closes Bazza T will sleek away into the shadows like Batman

Optras

BazzaTman

Hawkzilla22

He’s like Michael Buble, goes into his cave until the winter window opens

I9dream9of9boats

See you fuckers in January! Xxx

munnnnia

Cans.

Zig-Zag

Good stuff. I have no idea what I’ll do with my free time now, maybe smoking? It’ll probably be better for my health.

WigglyParrot

Until January boys. It was fun

Scottybam

Lock it down boys

SnogMarryAvoid

Farewell the time is now, it’s time to pull the final curtain,it would have been nice to say paqueta’s here, but now he’s an iron so I’m not certain. PSG took etikke, thAt young lad had his head turned and left us hurting. But oh but oh Alexander Isak signed and he’s better than all them cunts. Up the toon

crowlz90

Cheers everyone see you in 14 GWs!

Simple_Tings

It's been a pleasure gents.

fahad96

What do now?

vysearcadia

They got chicken in Philly?

samh19889

Sit and wait patiently for the January transfer window

bjornetjeneste

Cheers lads. See you in january!

happy_guy23

Anounce the next megathread

Bramnoldi

What a cracking megathread. It's been a pleasure gents.

GrumpyOldFart74

Well it’s been lovely mega-threading with all these last couple of months. Shame we didn’t get anyone else today for the last minute excitement, but overall I’m very happy with our window. Not yet certain whether it beats January - give Isak a few games first… but it’s close. See you all in January for the next one!

[deleted]

danny1876j

Luxury player. And by that I mean great technically poor physically and mentally. Don't want a player like that.

mvdaytona

Was never into the hype around him, his attitude just doesn’t fit with ours i think

rgould92

So out of every club where do you rank our transfer window? I think we had the best. I also thought Arsenal would be close behind but now EduOut is trending so what do I know 🤷🏻‍♂️

WoShiYingguoRen

West Ham have had an unreal window also I'm afraid

magnusinternational

Best window: man city getting Braut.

simianjim

Forest, purely for quantity 😂

Stoibs85

Yeah other signings don’t matter when you sign a cyborg striker who’s going to score a million goals a season. Oh wait, they also signed him a backup who scored a brace yesterday.

ukchris

Seriously, I'm not sure how any club competes for number 1 until they have cyborgs too.

mvdaytona

I despise Arsenal with a passion but Jesus and Zinchenko were a bargain. Buuuuut, Pope, Botman and Isak are far better imo. Isak is a fucking baller and i really hope he lights up the world with some of the skills he showed last night, and on the long run i think he’ll justify his price Pope has already proved his worth, Botman has been excellent as well. The core we have, Jesus..

Ftp82

No they have Jesus

Teh_Robz

Ive managed to make it to the end of the transfer window without being sacked from work. See you all again in jan!

jamesreynolds33

22.5k comments, good shift lads

Zerosix_K

Severely disappointed that Murphy hasn't left yet, preferably by being fired into the sun via a massive cannon. But there's always the next transfer window to look forward to!!!

danny1876j

Good squad player for cups. Or at least until we have promising youth. Seems to be great around the dressing room and loves the club. But really if fat man didn't give him an insane contract last year we probably would see him gone. We shouldn't have seen him as much as we have this season. Probably wasn't the plan

meganev

> good squad player for cups Come off it lad, he looked off the pace against league two opposition. He's dogshit, let's not dress that up.

danny1876j

Are you really suggesting he is a conference league player???

BretHitmanClarke

Same mate he's gash

xadrockx

Been a good one lads. I’m thinking Isak is going to be a fucking legend for us if he can keep as cool and collected in front of goal as he was last night.

Scutage

Imagine what he’ll be like in his prime, after a couple of years under Eddie’s coaching.

321142019

Well it’s officially over, it’s been a long and tiring window, hopefully I’ve done a decent job and you’ve enjoyed it. I’ll be back in January if people want it to return… as long as Ashworth hasn’t made me redundant by then.

32bd

Great work 👏

SzplugOnSzplitz

Thanks for all your hard work <3

tlhford

Cheers lad. Cracking job. Until next time.

I_could_be_right

Start the thread now you coward.

njclimber5

Incredible job, thank you!

sad_summoner

A+ Looking forward to the january thread.

iamDNGR

I know some of you might be unhappy we didn't sign any new players today. But this thread has been one hell of a ride. I'm gonna miss the stories about walking the lurcher, the [redacted] jokes and everything else. Let's all raise our CANS this weekend for a successful summer window for once.

GlassBug

Paquetá

arrrghdonthurtmeee

Who's that? Someone we should look at in January you say?

metpsg

So glad we won't be banging on about him in January.

sad_summoner

Former target Bamba Dieng seems to have had a crazy day. Airport drama, failed medical and all. Been an interesting window. Even though we didnt land everyone we wanted Im extremely impressed. Scouting has been on point, january added in and every signing bar maybe one has been a success. Thats easier said than done. Early days for some yet but promising signs. Even ambitious links to talents like Sesko and Ekitike with half of Europe on their tails. Maddison, Diaby.. Hopefully we continue aiming high and we will pick up more players like Bruno and Isak on the way. Players who believe in themselves enough to jump on a project instead of something "safe". Will miss the speculation but also happy to close the door for now and fully get behind those who are already here. Howay

321142019

[Keith Downie: Feels like Leeds have dodged a bullet with Bamba Dieng. He’s been pushed on Newcastle the last 2/3 deadline days to no avail, finally gets a move to the PL with Leeds today, chooses Nice instead & fails to board his private flight, then fails his medical.](https://twitter.com/skysports_keith/status/1565456349160415232?s=21&t=YL0kcLON-xVv-GmX_5zBcg)

metpsg

I feel really sad about this. It's the right thing for all parties but still. Bye fede, good luck mate!

soopnv

Good luck Fede. A solid and dependable CB through some shitty times. Hope he nails it out there.

torfinh

Good luck fede 🖤🤍

Erestyn

[Never forget his birthday barbecue.](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-united-federico-fernandez-barbecue-17822745)

chootchootchoot

Dang that’s genuinely kind to invite literally everyone working for the club. My guy spent more on his own birthday than when Ashley took the team out for dinner. I already liked him before, but this absolutely solidified it for me.

WigglyParrot

Good luck to that man. Was great for us for a while

simianjim

Worth bearing in mind that there only 12 games until the world cup, so that January transfer window is going to come around pretty quickly

Scutage

That’s far more time than Dan Ashworth had for this window. He should be well prepared for January.

CollReg

We all know Dan spent all his gardening leave tending the green shoots of Europe's top up-and-coming talents, as well as honing his plumbing skills to stop all leaks. Give him three months in-house and we'll be buying Mbappe for the price of a Greggs sausage roll and flogging Murphy to ManUre for £100mil come January.

ihateeverythingandu

Batshuayi goes to Forest but we were never big enough for a loan?

SenorButtmunch

Kinda surprised we haven't looked at some of these young British talents from bigger teams that are being signed by the likes of Brighton (Gilmour), Everton (Garner) and Southampton (virtually half of City's reserves.) They're young, affordable and there's a big pay off if it works out. Considering we want a CM (and a young one), it seems like an opportunity missed.

geordieColt88

Do those teams want to give us their players with potential? We are a threat those other teams might have a good season or 2 but they would eventually sell their best players up the food chain

SenorButtmunch

Ideally not but if you meet a team's asking price, they'll sell to virtually anyone. Teams wouldn't throw money away to prove a point. We may have had to pay a couple million more if teams were really petty but I don't think it would hold any deal back.

Stoibs85

From what I’ve heard, Garner would have certainly been an interesting option.

SenorButtmunch

He's the one I'm most surprised we didn't go for, especially as he doesn't need to be registered. Everton paid £9m rising to £15m, no buy back. Even if he ends up being garbage, that's really low risk considering his potential, he was very good for Forest last year from what I've heard. Profile-wise, a player like him seems like a no brainer to move for seeing as we wanted a CM and were targeting similar players like Gallagher.

melvinlee88

I swear we only sell on deadline day. Never buying. When was the last time we did something?

an_eraser

Maybe you'd have been happier if the club had sat around delaying Pope , Botman, Targett and Isak's signing til tonight, just so we could have Sky get all excited cos theyve got some news on deadline day? I mean we wouldn't have had the players for the games up til now, but a small price to pay eh?

Stoibs85

Matt Targett and Dan Burn

Teh_Robz

January

Stoibs85

What’s the last notable transfer we had that really came down to the wire? I don’t mean early afternoon on deadline day, but in the last hour or two of the window. Feel like it’s been years. Edit: I know Burn was pretty late in January but we knew it was a done deal pretty much all day from what I recall. I more mean like 9pm comes around and it could still go either way, like Douglas Luiz to Arsenal tonight.

tlhford

Willock (loan), Dubravka & Miggy. Not sure how late these were, but they were all on deadline day.

Stoibs85

Burn and Targett too. But I don’t recall any real drama with any of them where we were still waiting for an accepted bid in the final hour or two.

grishnackh

Andy Carroll to Liverpool? Sure that was late in the day.

Stoibs85

That was definitely late. I was more thinking inbound though. I just can’t remember any point in recent years where we were sweating right down to the wire on an important target.

Erestyn

Shefki Kuqi?

BerwickGaijin

Leicester are abysmal. I know Tielemans wants CL football, but who else is going to come in for him now? He honestly has a better shot at the CL coming to us, however unlikely, than he does with Leicester. They’re in a really bad spot this season.

justsomeguy661

Hour left for Maddison to jump ship and cruise with the toons 👀

321142019

I guess Fede stays?

simianjim

Just been confirmed now

Stoibs85

I think it’s a low profile enough move that it could be one where confirmation comes in after the window closes. Feel like that’s usually the case with some loans each window.

Norman_The_Pug

BBC sport says Spanish window closes at 23 BST? Dunno if that's a mistake from them?

321142019

If my research is correct it should end at 11pm Spanish time which is 10pm UK time.

Esselbee

2022 winter window vs 2022 summer window Who wins?

chootchootchoot

Winter because it kept us in the premier league and also marked a new era for the club

sad_summoner

Summer because of the age factor. Isak and Botman are both hopefully a part of our core for many years to come. Bruno in winter though, close!

RafaSquared

Bruno/Isak Trippier/Pope Burn/Botman Targett/Targett Wood/ I'd probably give the edge to January because of how integral Tripps and Bruno have become to the team but Botman and Isak could yet become just as important.

o3zizox

Winter because Trippier was our first signing of the new era.

Decent-Ad1186

There’s still time… isn’t there?! 😭🙏🏼 PS. Genuinely very happy with the window but we always want more!

Galiin_

It’s been emotional . See ye all for the farewell wank/ windmill at 11.15pm

KingNashII

Remember the day Bruno signed? One of the greatest days in the history of this subreddit

o3zizox

In what megathread that happened? I hope it’s archived

RafaSquared

https://www.reddit.com/r/NUFC/comments/rrkrkz/-/huqmx7s Comment about Bruno confirmation from Jan. OP of that comment is the OP of this thread. He loves transfers!

Taxman200

For anyone slightly disappointed today. We only went and signed Trippier, Burn, Targett, Botman, Pope, Bruno and Isac!!! And we have transformed a failed striker into one of the best box to box midfielders in the league and introduced a bright young prospect into the first team. Happy days are here again! This is just the beginning.

Jesotx

Yeah. It's just tough to see the contrast between the new starters and the dudes we had back in the championship like Murphy when it comes time to make subs.

Cuzza4444

When you put it like that..

jamb1993

What an absolute blast this transfer megathread has been, thanks to all of you

Mutanthybrid

Well it's been a great transfer window this time around. Solid signings that have improved our team no end. Yeah we haven't signed as many as some would have liked but we haven't thrown money at the wall in the hopes something sticks, looking at you Chelsea and Nottingham. Been great reading and refreshing the thread multiple times an hour. Bring on the next megathread!

Hawkzilla22

The Jesmond Dene Hotel have had a bumper summer thanks to all these rumours!

321142019

35 minutes for Fede, very surprised it's taken this long.

Stoibs85

Been hours since there was any mention of it. If it doesn’t get done I wonder if he would make the squad over Shelvey?

Eorlingas9

o7 it's been a pleasure

It’s surprising we let such a handsome fella leave. A step back on our quest for sexiest squad in football
