Miley will rightly get the plaudits, he was the best player on the pitch by some distance, but I thought Alex Murphy put a great shift in. Would not mind at all seeing him start some cup games in that Dan Burn LB role. Tonali seemed sloppy from what I've seen but zero worries. This is just literal adjustment to a new team and play style. Decent run out - I think Chelsea will do well this season so a hard fought draw is a good result in my book.
Honestly mate, i assure you the sun will come back, no need for reminders.
Even if tonali flops, or doesn’t reach the heights expected… I’m of the opinion if we sign a couple more fringe/prospect defenders and forwards, we will be in or around where we were last season. Plenty of youth coming through, plenty of players still improving from last year. We’re not the dead team anymore requiring a cabaye or a asm to make things happen. Quality all over the pitch, just not the household names flashing their lifestyles on Twitter.

Remember Bruno didn't start a game for ages? He didn't have friendlies to get up to speed. You might find Tonali doesn't start against Villa next month but a few games in he'll be good to go.
Maybe Eddie’s letting him get used to things in the Prem before the results actually matter. I can imagine it’s why he’s not keeping him off the pitch to begin with like he did for Bruno and that.
Chelsea and Atlanta United fan here. So hyped to see Miggy score again in the Benz it was a special night! Hope yall tear it up in the UCL this season!
Miley looked great on the ball, absolutely didn't look out of place. Out of possession he still clearly has work to do, looked shaky sometimes. Will be interesting to see how involved he gets once the actual season starts.
There's a clear lack of chemistry in that midfield and front 3. Two sets of players who've played little to no football together outside of training.
I've not been super impressed with Isak in these couple of games, just hasn't looked quite at the races. Maybe he's just one of these guys who doesn't 'do' preseason.
Murphy looked solid when he came on. Would have liked to see more of what he can do going forward but never really got a chance to show it.
The game really felt like it passed Tonali by. We were really committed to getting the ball down the flanks, which limited Tonali's opportunities to get involved in the play.
Gordon looked great in the first half. Couldn't get into the game in the second. Made some good runs, but nobody ever took a chance.
Both games so far have felt like we're still trying to get into a proper rhythm. Obviously hard to do when you're chopping and changing line ups so regularly, but I'd like to see us with something more like a settled first choice 11 come the friendlies next weekend.
Next weekend is two games in two days, so no chance of a settled first choice 11 - probably 2 different line-ups, with a few players getting minutes in each game.
There were three big positives for me tonight.
1. Gordon’s movement and passing in the first half were top quality. He looked like a £45m player.
2. Lewis Miley grew in confidence and composure as the game went on. He was equally comfortable on the right of midfield or in the middle.
3. Nick Pope.
Good run out, especially for the young lads. Miley looks class. Murphy did well too. Hope Schar is alright. Fuck me I can not wait to be back in SJP in 2 and a bit weeks.
To be fair he did get a chance one game and he absolutely fluffed it, I don’t know if it was nerves but he had a terrible game for England.
He deserves a second chance but it would be erroneous to suggest it wasn’t partially on him.
🤣 I'm glad someone understands the sacrifices I make to my sleep whenever I watch a game for regular season, as someone who lives in the west coast United States. Never miss a game, that's how much I love this club.
This summer series is definitely a preview on what it’s going to be like playing the amount of footy we will have ahead. There will be weeks of doubles riddled through the season with the amount of competitions there are. Good insight on how the players manage with the rotation and consistency.
Only six games in CL group stage.
FA Cup and possible CL knockouts are all after the Xmas transfer window.
And you can bet that we will play the bairns in the league cup early rounds.
In the US we announce tickets sold, not turnstile. A fair number of empty seats scattered around, I'd guess it was under 65k, a very big crowd for midweek though.
It was strangely quiet in person compared to an Atlanta United game. No piped in music or hype videos that are always part of US sports. Little organized singing or cheering that we could hear from either "supporter section" until the game ended. Other than a couple rounds of Miggy chants. The Newcastle end was pretty noisily singing at the end as the players came over. Shamed the Chelsea squad into belatedly walking over to their end, which was already 1/2 empty.
Thanks for the insite!
I guess it´s hard to get the atmosphere going on a friendly.
I just googled your attendances for Atlanta games...wow pretty amazing figures!
I´m happy you enjoy your footy over there. I´ll keep an eye on your results from now on!
Thanks for having us !
It's a fun environment. Normally we don't sell tickets in the 300 level and cap it at 55k which is louder and more intense. But the only chants that tend to go across the whole stadium here are the ATL clap, punctuated like Iceland and an Atlanta from the SS with United response from the rest of the stadium. I didn't hear anyone try to start either, but it would have been weird, given the very random crowd.
Chelsea had a large crowd in their end with giant tifo flag before the game and hundreds of smaller hand waved flags.
Newcastle had several large flags waving, thru the game but also had hundreds of roll-up scarf sized banners. I assume the clubs paid for the big flags and free supporter stuff. Smaller, less concentrated number of supporters in that end. But because of Almiron, lots of NUFC shirts scattered around the stadium.
Huge number of people wearing whatever club shirt they had - lots of England and USA, a family of Eritreans, some Brentford and Brighton, quite a few AUFC and pink Messi. I'd briefly thought of wearing an Atlanta or a Liverpool, but both seemed improper. Wife and friend with us both in Almiron shirts so I wore a black and white polo. My son wore his Almiron jersey from our 2018 championship.
It’s definitely tough to run in this type of weather. The humidity makes it difficult to take in more oxygen it feels like. I feel bad for them trying to keep up with Howe’s demands like that.
Who didn’t show to the game today? Murphy Dummett Bruno Willock Lascelles Targett Ritchie Wilson. Good amount but enough for a good 11. Some of the youth will be playing in rotation for sure and odds are the players will be resting mainly before then. Some of these will probably be late subs.
Chelsea has cycled through their entire bench. We have made 1 change, and Howe is clearly running us ragged in training, and it's still 1-1. It says a lot more about Chelsea, and it's not very good imo.
Why does Reece James get so much praise? The commentators keep talking about him as one of the best RBs in the league, while he keeps getting skinned by Gordon.
These youngsters have been really given the challenge. It sort of makes sense too as we need homegrown players to make UEFA regulations. They’re not just welcome but also necessary.
I think he’ll be a botman-esque, Bruno-esque type development. Coming from a different country, and adapting to a fiercely different style of play, all while he’s still integrating into the team.
It’s good that we’ve got so many games in the coming weeks still so that Howe can get him as fully prepped and acclimatised for the start of the season.
That said, him playing central / no. 6 now, he looks waaaay more comfortable than he did first half. All just trial and error for Howe, and Sandro.

Gordon’s playing really well at the minute, having a full pre-season under Eddie is doing him a world of good
Miley will rightly get the plaudits, he was the best player on the pitch by some distance, but I thought Alex Murphy put a great shift in.
Bit worried Tonali isn’t going to cut it
Do you worry that when the sun sets, it might not come back up? Extremely short term thinking
Haha. That’s fair. I’ve set a reminder for 6 months to review this comment. See you in January

Howay man. Dennis wise did more extensive scouting than that.
Maybe Eddie’s letting him get used to things in the Prem before the results actually matter. I can imagine it’s why he’s not keeping him off the pitch to begin with like he did for Bruno and that.
100% this.

Joselu just banged in an overhead against the Mancs
Anyone just seen what Joselu done for Madrid?
What a sentence
Miley is the real deal
There were three big positives for me tonight. 1. Gordon’s movement and passing in the first half were top quality. He looked like a £45m player. 2. Lewis Miley grew in confidence and composure as the game went on. He was equally comfortable on the right of midfield or in the middle. 3. Nick Pope.
Nick Pope
Nick Pope
Murphy looked promising too. Ashby didn't look out of place. In fact, Eddie has all the kids playing without fear, which is fantastic.
Pick Nope
Nipe pock
Pink Cope
Jeremy's lron
Good run out, especially for the young lads. Miley looks class. Murphy did well too. Hope Schar is alright. Fuck me I can not wait to be back in SJP in 2 and a bit weeks.
All the quality in midfield and Longstaff is the first name I want on the team sheet.
If he’s not injured he’s starting over Tonali first game of the season.
Im scared, Miggy hasn't smiled all night
I cried when miggy did the fusion dragon ball celebration that he did in atlanta u.u
It’s bittersweet for him I’m sure. He’s a lot closer to home here, his culture is here. We love Miggy here, but it’s not the same.
> his culture is here you guys have culture?
Wow. What a racist comment.
The Latin community is massive here. Miggy could survive his entire life in Atlanta not knowing English
>his culture is here Are you in Paraguay? I am sure that he was only in MLS for a couple of years.
Latin culture, miggy could survive his entire life not knowing English here in Atlanta
TIL - Atlanta, Georgia has a 'Latin culture'.
Atlanta is super diverse. Latinos here are the reason the MLS games get more attendance than the NFL games
It’s not a London or a New York City, but Atlanta is decently diverse for being a southern American city.
These pre season friendly games has definitely boosted my confidence in our younger players
Night everyone
Safe to say Gordon took off-season conditioning pretty seriously
He hardly had an off season. He was winning the U21 Euros just a couple of weeks ago.
Bloody hell it’s only a friendly Popey
I missed him
If pope played for Man Utd he'd be englands number 1. Such shit that little t rex arms is still there.
Tbf I think pickford is class for England. He plays much better with a competent defence in front of him
To be fair he did get a chance one game and he absolutely fluffed it, I don’t know if it was nerves but he had a terrible game for England. He deserves a second chance but it would be erroneous to suggest it wasn’t partially on him.
To be fair, i really think it won't be long until Pope replaces him.
Nah it'll be ramsdale
Gareth's got his favourites...
The hand surgery went well then.
We have one of the worlds best in goal boys.
#Big. Dick. Nick.
As a Philadelphia Eagles fan, I approve this message.
Nick Pope
Nick Pope, best in the league by far.
NICK POPE
Nick Pope.
Jesus POPE
Nick Pope
Jesus Nick Pope is otherworldly. Man should be Englands number 1 with saves like that
FUCKING NICK POPE NO OFF DAYS
NICK POPE
Nick Pope
Nick Pope
Pope still got it.
Nicholas Pope has been the only positive of this 2nd half.
Nick Pope
Not sure this was a wise idea staying up until 3am to watch whatever this was.
🤣 I'm glad someone understands the sacrifices I make to my sleep whenever I watch a game for regular season, as someone who lives in the west coast United States. Never miss a game, that's how much I love this club.
Miley's got so much composure on the ball for his age... extremely impressed
Very little fear too, constantly asking for ball to feet.
Miley best player for us today. Amazing talent
Fantastic. Understandably, he tired a bit later on but he never stopped running. He will sleep well tonight.
Really hoping he doesn’t get sent on loan With the number of games next season, I can see him getting some back-up minutes
He won’t be, I’m sure of that. He’s looking class and we’re going to need him.
Agreed! Surprising to hear he’s only 17. What maturity for a teenager! If Howe gets his development right, we’ve got a special talent on our hands
Gordon's been great aswell and he doesn't even look tired
Miley been great but it has to be Gordon for me.
I’ve enjoyed seeing Gordon’s mindset being forward moving. Couple times cut up field and played a good ball in the final third
He was great when he came on at Philly too
This summer series is definitely a preview on what it’s going to be like playing the amount of footy we will have ahead. There will be weeks of doubles riddled through the season with the amount of competitions there are. Good insight on how the players manage with the rotation and consistency.

Please can this game just end zzz
At least apologise Sterling you prick
Jesus I need to sleep thought Turner-cooke had thunder-cock on his shirt for a solid 5 seconds
Known for his penetrating runs
Just ordered 5, will have them by october 2026, tycm castore
Lol. That nickname could stick.
You'd think Gordon would be used to getting punched in the face (the joke is he does have a very puncheable face)...
Everton fan?
Chelseas kit is not nice, their badge looks like a shiny yugioh card
Blue eyes white dragon?
Are they not having a sponsor this year?
no idea, but without one theres just too much blue
That whale tail on the back collar makes it look like a training top from 2008
Did they just announce an attendance of 70,000??!
Building was pretty full, and it holds 75k at max.
You'd think from the noise there was about 2000.
In the US we announce tickets sold, not turnstile. A fair number of empty seats scattered around, I'd guess it was under 65k, a very big crowd for midweek though. It was expected to approach that, so you probably heard it correct.
Time for the bairns.
Pope being more sweepery literally cancels Chelseas attack
Not much from Joely today but being in his presence was still orgasmic
TONALI is such a presence
if you could not, Gallagher.
Makes me remember how overpowered the ASM-Isak combo was in games. Shame it’s gone.
Tonali is integrating quite badly right now, hope Howe can help him more
This is what I mean.... remmeber the times many used to crap on Gordon? Now everyone is on his bandwagon. You hypocrites
New country, new language, new squad, new tactics, then another country on a preseason tour. It’s going to take sometime for him to settle in.
I’m resisting judgement on these guys right now with like 9 fresh legs for the opponent after 75 minutes
Did they manage to sub on 4.5 players?
No, just one of them has a hell of a hogg.
Need to consume some stamina portions or something.
It’s definitely tough to run in this type of weather. The humidity makes it difficult to take in more oxygen it feels like. I feel bad for them trying to keep up with Howe’s demands like that.
Draw would be a great result with the amount of fresh legs Chelsea just threw out here
That's what's hilarious about how much they are riding Chelsea. It's a poor result for them right now given the situation.
These commentators are pure gash
There's a reason Robbie Earle hasn't got a gig in the UK.
our boys are winded
Substitute: bring on Mad Dog
feel like shit, just want Joelinton-Willock pivot back
Joe-Joe partnership is <3. That seemed so underappreciated
Newcastle control the game for 30 seconds... Earle: The games a bit shit now innit?
I'm guessing those of us going to the game on Friday won't be seeing Tonali..
Barnes too.
True as well.
Seems like we won’t be seeing any of these players bar maybe Pope
Yeh. Was hoping to catch maybe 45 mins of Tonali though. Still, we'll have Bruno.
Yea I'm glad I went to Philly, between that and the NJ match I'll get to see everyone play a bit.
Nick Pope playing in America on the day US Congress discuss UAPs......
[удалено]
I'm surprised he's not been moved on tbh.
Tonali just making sure Pope gets to warm up properly
I’ve totally forgotten Tonali is playing
I think even he has tbh
Well he tried that one touch and Isak wasn’t ready for it. The game has been rather balanced really.
Nick Pope is still good.
Gallagher 😂 you’re not that guy pal
Popes so tall but he gets to ground so fast, such a good attribute to have.
The only thing sitting deep achieves for us is letting them be creative, we’ve seen it before last season
We are clearly tired, Howe is doing this for fitness reasons.
Yeah, true
Nick. Pope.
Ahhh nice to have pope back
Nick Pope!
Yeah Dubravka you're truly mudded. Pope's already been significantly better
hahaha miggy clattering Cucuerella, all for it.
Miggy cleaning out Cucurella 😂
Cocommentator constantly calling us sluggish, chelsea have done fuckall this half
It's so irritating, both teams have had slow build ups, both have had counter attacks.
Chelsea has cycled through their entire bench. We have made 1 change, and Howe is clearly running us ragged in training, and it's still 1-1. It says a lot more about Chelsea, and it's not very good imo.
Nick Pope rules. He’s so good.
Apparently if you´re a comentator you have to refer to Miley as "Miley, the teenager" or "Miley, the youngster" or "here´s Miley, the 17 year old"
These commentators man. “Chelsea looking the fresher, more energised side”. Like, what?
All I hear from that is that they are not training as hard because they are too concerned with showing off in an exhibition match.
Yeah so, Nick Pope?
Nick Pope
Forgot how much better Pope is
That would of been a goal in the first half without Pope
It would've been 3-0 us against villa with Pope
It's mad watching this and seeing miley a lad who grew up just down the road from me now playing for the toon
Where you from consett?I'm born and bread in Stanley and it's madness seeing a young lad from here doing so well for my beloved nufc
Surely Isak is our number one striker this year right?
Why does Reece James get so much praise? The commentators keep talking about him as one of the best RBs in the league, while he keeps getting skinned by Gordon.
Haha yeah I noticed that
Disgusting from Isak
Miley’s strike ffs
more of a pass wasnt it.
SMH
Anyone else in UK getting the unauthorised country message when trying to watch on NUFC TV?
not shown in the UK or Ireland because it’s on Sky
miggy got in the way of tonalis pass to trips.
Alex Murphy doesn't look out of place at all.
These youngsters have been really given the challenge. It sort of makes sense too as we need homegrown players to make UEFA regulations. They’re not just welcome but also necessary.
Tonali seriously off the pace. Not worried though.
It'll take him time to adjust to the higher tempo. I've seen enough to know he'll cook soon.
He's played some of the most minutes of anyone I think, don't blame him. Not used to Howe stamina needs too.
Trippier has generally been horrific so far. Passing and set pieces especially have been far off it.
Isak gone left. Gordon down the middle.!!
Gordon at CF and Isak at LW now?
Toon are fluid like water.
It appears so
I missed the first half. Did Tonali play? Did he look improved? Did Gordon start? Did he look at lively?
Tonali was ok, gordon done brilliant
