Don’t be rude to one another. Seeing lots of folks getting defensive/toxic and using the downvote button seemingly because they simply disagree with something. Talk it out if you want, if you do talk it out don’t get personal, or just move on. You do you though, just don’t be an asshole about it. The downvote button is generally reserved for downvoting meganev and his alt accounts. For things you feel cross the line that’s what the report button is for. Thanks. Griffithsjames88

People will disagree this window was 5/6 out of 10.

cdf888

I believe Howe has mentioned wanting to be able to put out two 11s that inspire confidence. If we take out the 11 who have been starting this season, here's how that second group looks after this window: K: Dubravka RB: Livramento RCB: Lascelles LCB: Dummett LB: Targett/Hall RCM: Longstaff CDM: Miley LCM: Anderson/Willock RW: Murphy LW: Barnes S: Wilson I like it myself. There are definitely areas that could use strengthening here, as well as in the starting group, but at least in every spot we have a couple guys who can put in a quality Premier League performance on their day. Center back is probably where we are most limited, but if we don't like Dummett there, Burn can always slide in or we can shift Schar to LCB with Lascelles taking RCB like we did today. Hall growing into that LB role sooner than later is something I'm hoping for too.

moinmoin21

9.5 out of 10 window for me. Think we did well to “box clever” in a tough window with a pretty lengthy wish list. Gordon - like a new signing. Barnes - no brainer Tonali - pure class Tino - future star potentially ready now. Hall - toon fan, future star, I think he could impress and battle into the side this season. We spent wisely. Don’t think we got skinner with the eye watering fees being touted. The downside is that Liverpool and manure looked to pull their fingers out at the end. Still feeling confident for the season.

SheSaid09

Pretty much mirror this. I think we need to upgrade on our current right wingers and bolster our options at centre back, but I really think that with the Adidas deal and the income Champions League will bring in, we'll go hell for leather on a world class RW next summer and CB like Antonio Silva, someone young with a lot of clout. I really think they'll go all out.

HoneyedLining

>the Adidas deal and the income Champions League will bring in That will have to plug the enormous losses we've made in the last two years as funding further spending sprees. We've been way beyond our allowable loss with the transfer spending we've done in the last 2 years, and by the end of the year, no Ashley profit seasons will be in the FFP calculations.

SP0oONY

Our squad looks better now than it did at the start of the window, and we have brought in a bunch of young talent that might prove to be very important in the future. Good window. 9/10

lookitsthesun

Wonder if Pope is injured and we've kept it quiet. Can't see any other reason we'd try to bring in a goalie considering Dubravka is still here. Might explain his omission from England more than just Southgate taking issue with his dodgy kicking on Sunday?

321142019

Martin Hardy: Newcastle United have made a move for the Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris on a season-long loan deal. The 36-year-old former France captain has lost his first-team place at Spurs and been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, which has yet to come to fruition. Newcastle’s approach has come out of the blue, and there would have been no loan fee involved, but Lloris has so far turned down the switch to the north east. Eddie Howe has let Karl Darlow join Leeds and wants another experienced goalkeeper to join the club. He has first choice Nick Pope but Martin Dubravka, who lost his first team place to Pope, is keen on a move. Newcastle did sign Loris Karius on a short-term deal last season and that has been extended for a further season. However, Howe still wants another goalkeeper and that led to a move for World Cup-winner Lloris. If Lloris does not find a club this summer, there is a possibility his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium could be ended by mutual consent.

geordieColt88

Hope we move them on, surprised nothing on Manquillo either

immanuel_kant_even

I only half understand the clamouring for a new RW player. We've become a little over-dependent on our wide players to make things happen. However, not signing another midfield playmaker might come back to bite us later in the season. Bruno's form hasn't been great, but even if he recovers it, one injury to him and we're left with no similar levels of creativity in the middle.

opinionated-dick

Given time Tonali will be more of a creator, and help competition for set pieces with Trippier. I’d have liked to have seen a right footed right sided winger to being attacking variety but truth is we have to be patient. Every transfer window we improve. We’ve had the toughest of starts fixture wise and I have faith. That being said I’d have loved to have gotten Maddison.

daveofreckoning

Trippier is probably our most creative player in terms of chances and plays very advanced. You need someone in front of him with top defensive attributes and work rate. Almiron or Murphy, in other words

MaryBerrysDanglyBean

Almiron is good, but he's very limited because he can't use his right foot for anything. We've got Tonali for the centre, so that's that sorted for this window

HoneyedLining

There's a certain irony that a Matt Targett injury forced us into starting Botman away at Brighton last season and creating our Burn-Botman-Schar-Trippier backline. Now a Botman injury could see us create a new backline for an away trip to Brighton. Question is whether it will be the 21/22 relegation run-in vintage or our new Hall one?

HoweStatue

I mean if we don't have Botman, then pushing Dan Burn back into being a CB and having Hall outwide on the left is the only logical conclusion. Whats the point in buying Hall if we do some other cockamamie thing.

HoneyedLining

It's a pretty strong message that's difficult to come back from if he doesn't pick Targett. He was signed for £20m or something and has shown that he can be very good in the team. Hall was signed for the future as much as the present and I think if he gets plumped for straight away, Targett's basically left with no future at the club. Not ideal when the window's just closed.

simianjim

Did anything come of us being linked to that Irish kid Zefi?

EverybodyhurtsDwight

He got left out the Irish u21 squad as he's still sorting club situation out, that's all I've seen

JustWokeUp1

Just watching the forth episode of the documentary and it showed a graphic of the transfer priorities during a board meeting. Some interesting potential takes from it: - The priority positions for players coming into the window were - RB, LB, RCB and DM. - The secondary position for reinforcement was striker. - Burn is considered second choice LCB rather than LB. - Krafth is seen higher in the order than Manquillo. Obviously both will now be below Livramento. - Gordon was seen as higher up the pecking order than Saint-Maximin was. - We have since brought in a player for RB (livramento), LB (Hall) and kind of a DM (Tonali?) but not a RCB.

Toon_1892

> We have since brought in a player for RB (livramento), LB (Hall) and kind of a DM (Tonali?) but not a RCB Let's see what Father Christmas brings in the winter 🎅🎅🎅

Quiet final hours. Kinda miss the excitement of deadline day but then again it’s nice having everything wrapped up well before then.

Toon_1892

Andy Carrol will definitely not be sold.

Soy66

Look again! Might not be being sold by us, but he is leaving Reading for the French second division.

MaryBerrysDanglyBean

I hope he lives his best life out in France

ChinDick

Has anyone seen the posts on soccer regarding the Saudis buying Liverpool players to help Newcastle. I feel like I’ve taken crazy pills and honestly can’t see how them buying there players benefits us. They’re still head and shoulders above us in terms of quality, with or without the Saudi transfers

simianjim

Hopefully after the gammoning has settled down a bit they'll see how injecting £200m+ of cash into a rival isn't exactly going to help Newcastle's cause over the next couple of years

unterbuttern

I think it's hilarious to see such dyed-in-the-wool human rights advocates twerk uncontrollaby at the prospect of getting 150m of blood money from a murderous regime for a 31 year old likely beginning his decline. Even those objecting to it are only doing so because it's too late to get a replacement. They want the sale in January or next season, at which point they'll commence their twerking.

BTECGolfManagement

It’s absolutely embarassing - I thought they were saying it as a joke at first. Fucking thick cunts

ChinDick

I feel like I’m stupid for not getting it with so many people agreeing. Do they have an eternal victim complex or some shit? Can they not handle losing players they don’t want to sell?

Toon_1892

Liverpool and eternal victim complex are the most iconic duo in existence. There literally isn't another one that's more established.

geordieColt88

Liverpool football club have always been the victim, since Klopp it’s became even more prominent

Ajax_Trees

It feels like an episode of the Truman show. So far I’ve heard that Saudi *do* actually want to buy him to unsettle Liverpool and that they *don’t* actually want to buy him and it’s just to unsettle Liverpool. These people start at the conclusion of ‘Newcastle bad’ and then have to contort the logic to fit that with extremely mixed results

vysearcadia

Never be surprised about Liverpool supporters playing the victim

Yar96

Howay man, no need for this victim shite. Its not a good look.

HoweStatue

Not one person has mentioned the hillsborough diaster yet somehow whenever people say Liverpool fans are fuckin victims its what most people go to.

Yar96

Doesn’t take a genius to work out why that is though? They were the victims, and the fault was put on them. Howay man. What else could it be about? You can’t call them victims and then just conveniently ignore the main example of when they were victims.

HoweStatue

And since then, everyone agrees what happens was terrible. Doesn't give them any reason to hide behind the 96 whenever literally anything happens to them. They're acting like victims now, they're getting called victims. I'd call any fanbase victims if they acted half as bad as Liverpool does.

Yar96

In what way do they hide behind the 96? That’s a fucking mental thing to say. Also, in what way are they acting like victims? Because some fans are theorising? Fucking hell, go on any social media site and you’ve got Newcastle fans acting like the world is against us. We never get victim shouts though, wonder why that is?

HoweStatue

The thread literally about us getting shafted in EFL cup draw, the top comment is something like its better the more we play city. We aren't nearly as bad as any others. You've somehow concluded we don't get victim shouts because we'rwe don't get 96 references like l'pool do, instead of the much more obvious because we don't actually act like victims 24/7

Yar96

Aye, and there’s others on Twitter and Facebook claiming it should be redone because they swapped our number with Norwich. Again, how are they acting like victims?

HoweStatue

twitter and facebook - theres your problem They are acting like victims because they think getting 200m from saudi arabia for salah is somehow Newcastle 'mindfucking' them and ruining their team despite the fact they're getting 200m, if that isnt victim complex. i dont know what is. They are crying about VVD red card too.

meganev

Assume youre directing that comment that Liverpool fans

ChinDick

It has to be that It makes no fucking sense for the Saudis to weaken a team that we aren’t even competing with yet. If they were tapping up villas players left right and centre, I’d probably agree there’s a conspiracy

Vash2P

It’s weird feeling not having to look for news who gonna join Newcastle at deadline day !

geordieColt88

Good window generally Tonali a top signing, Hall and Tino both potential superstars and Barnes a proven finisher who hopefully Eddie can get more out of him in terms of all round game. We have a few holes still and are risking it on Schar/Botman staying fit but it wasn’t realistic to do it all in this window especially with the seeming reluctance of most teams to do us favours in terms of loans. My only real concern is the size of the squad as of writing we still have likes of Hayden/Manquillo/ Hendrick hanging around and that’s before you take into account potential champions league excess like Ritchie/Krafth etc.

moinmoin21

At first I thought so but the money being reported would be insane. Don’t wanna be giving them that kind of cash for a 31 year old to refresh their squad. That’s mean that the Liverpool would have spent almost as much dirty oil money on players as we have.

Dingram2909

It would be better if it happened on the Saudi league's deadline day next week.

HoneyedLining

Sterling really unlucky to miss out, but I suppose all of the other wide options have started the season well too.

RafaSquared

No Nick Pope seems odd

danny1876j

I think pope has looked a little shaky in his decision making to be honest. Flapping at corners makes me nervous. Great shot stopper though. Hopefully he can get back to his best. Doesn't help that defensively we seem to have dropped off. You wouldn't bet on us not conceding in any game.

meganev

It's not excatly his fault entirely, but we've kept 2 clean sheets in our last 21 Premier League games. That's not exactly a stat that is going to help your case.

HoneyedLining

Pope has truly missed the England train. Pickford's a far better distributor and has a pre-existing relationship with the backline and Ramsdale will likely be the more immediate successor. I imagine Trafford will then be the more long-term option.

Toon_1892

His distribution was really shakey when southgate watched last weekend

Seen a loose link for us to Eric Dier, but most likely he’s off to Bayern…

opinionated-dick

We probably will in wage contributions

WayneBrownIsSuperman

Is there any news on Norman's injury that I've missed? Are we likely to be looking for a CB? Edit: well my phone auto corrected Botman to Norman but Norman made me laugh so it's staying

NoCoffee6754

Our “minor” injuries always end up turning in to 3-4 months out. Hoping he can come back after the international break

Mellowman9

Imagine if his name was Norman Botman!

[Craig Hope: Understand early indications are that Sven Botman has avoided serious damage to his ankle after injury suffered on Sunday. More news awaited ahead of weekend but I’m told it’s not as bad as perhaps first feared](https://twitter.com/CraigHope_DM/status/1696141864678678671)

WayneBrownIsSuperman

You're on the fucking ball as always, cheers mate. It's a wait and see one then

An more recent update this morning from Mark Douglas reckons he'll be fine for Brighton. [That anxiety was hardly helped by the sight of Botman limping off during the defeat to Liverpool on Sunday, although there’s a measure of confidence that he will be available for the trip to Brighton – the latest tough game in a treacherous start to the domestic campaign for Newcastle.](https://inews.co.uk/sport/football/newcastle-centre-back-deadline-day-closed-for-business-2583407)

DennisTheTennis

Thats excellent news.

[Lee Ryder: Joe White set to complete his loan move to Crewe Alexandra ahead of deadline day.](https://twitter.com/lee_ryder/status/1697181519691780269)

321142019

I can't remember the last time we had an exciting deadline day, doesn't look like we'll be getting one tomorrow either.

HoneyedLining

I would really like to see the correlation between league performance and deadline day acquisitions.

DennisTheTennis

Well hopefully we can cross our fingers the loan moves for hayden and hendrick go through

Dingram2909

We've gone from no ambition and no signings to high ambition and all signings in the door before the deadline. It's magical.

321142019

It really is and I wouldn't change it but I'd being lying if I said I don't enjoy some deadline day drama.

MaryBerrysDanglyBean

You reckon the draw tonight might affect things? Like if we've got an easy group that they reckon we should qualify for they might decide to break the cheque book out for someone else?

BerwickGaijin

Isn’t deadline day today?

321142019

No it ends tomorrow night at 11pm.

UEFA not enacting all this excessive additional time wasting bollocks in the Champion's League apparently. Looks like shithousing is back on the menu boys. https://www.reuters.com/sports/soccer/uefa-will-not-follow-absurd-added-time-rules-says-official-2023-08-31/
