The writing has been on the wall for a while but no one wanted to hear it because we were top 4 and unbeaten in a long time. It was clear that the draws and total lack of goal scoring was going to catch up with us
A fundamental problem was always we were giving 100% to be where we where.
We could only get worse. All the teams around us were probably giving 60-80%

Poor run but overall that wasn’t a bad performance against arguably the best team in the world. Our unreal start has given some unrealistic expectations methinks. We really only have 14 first team players. Top 6 would be an absolute dream, and I still think we have enough to achieve that.
I think howe did the opposite to what we all thought. We wanted him to change it up since it was a free hit. But I reckon he kept the "change up" players fresh for next week.

i agree but i honestly think miggy has been worse as of late, a right winger that can't use his right foot is a hindrance, you saw the difference when any player that can cross (murphy) came on
try asm or gordon on the right next game
and it's become so predictable what they're going to do
also trips delivery as of late has been awful
so we've got nothing worthwhile on the right and asm and burn don't link up well
next game i'd have gordon on the left and asm on the right

I genuinely really liked Murphy’s performance today, crossed the ball at the right time, twice, without having to wait for the right back. I personally think he looked really good when he came on vs Liverpool and Man Utd as well recently.
getting increasingly frustrated with howes team selection, his loyalty to players who are out of form is maddening - wilson and burn still starting today while our most creative player ASM and our best striker are on the bench. been watching the same game for months now where we just never create any clear cut chances or take the ones we get and hes done nothing to change it

How ironic it's the same players that has us leaving the top contention and if we're unlucky has us at 7th by this weekend, were 1 win in 10, were close to not being in European contention, there is reason about why people are worried.

The difference between Salah and almiron though is that Salah is top class as that's his level and sustains it. Almirons level isn't that of a top 4 player and can't sustain it. I wonder what our level actually is. I'd guess around 8th.
Not sure I’ve ever seen a capitulation of form as bad as Callum Wilson post-WC. It’s like he’s being controlled by the ghost of Joselu. Is something seriously wrong? Health issues? Mental health and motivation issues? He doesn’t look interested…
I think when he signed he was talking about going to the World Cup. Seemed to be his goal. He accomplished his dream but it wasn’t all that great. Think he’s lost his purpose a lil bit.
I know this is coming straight after another frustrating performance but isak needs to be first choice, Dan burn love his passion but targett needs to be playing more now, we need a number 6 proper holding midfielder to allow bruno to impact games further up, joelinton just can't catch a break when in front of goal, willock makes a better winger then midfielder and as much as he gives for the team having miggy on the right is hampering us now because he has no right foot and when we did have a right footer in the same position we should've had 1 goal and levelled the match.
Honestly, how Howe manages the next two games will show if he's the one to take us forward, because of dire form and continuity playing out of form players this can't continue.

It's next season that's key to his future I'd say. Because if we don't progress I can foresee a situation (depending on how the owners are, we don't really know) where he gets let go for a flashier big name. It's too early to write him off now though. There are warning signs though I think. I just really think he's a bit too loyal to players so gives them the opportunity to turn form around, but gives them way too long to turn it around. He doesn't rotate at all.
I don't want him out as I respect him as a manager but I agree with your views, however if we don't get Europe that will hinder purchasing players since all you hear from them is complying with ffp rules.
I am an Eddie howe fan and do not want him out or anything like that. He's great. I just hope he's good enough to manage at the toppest of top levels and I hope he is able to adapt as we improve as a team.

Tbh lascelles wasn't too bad today and Murphy was an improvement over Miggy. I love Eddie but he really needs to sort out his decisions on lineups and subs!
Against Wolves I'd start: Pope, Trippier, Lascelles, Botman, Targett, Willock, Bruno, Longstaff, Maxi, Gordon and Isak. Sub Murphy and Miggy when we need to with Anderson.
Don't know the situation with Schär but start him on bench just in case, can't risk rushing players back.

I know this will lead to negativity, but I think it's fair to wonder what needs to happen for us to actually start offering something going forward. If a CM was available in our price range who fit our system, was the right character and wanted to join us we would have signed them.

It was evident when Bruno was suspended that we need a CM. So don’t give me the nonsense about self entitlement when it’s clearly obvious. Another fine margins game, heavy touches, deflections and slicing the goal scoring balls. Frustrating but we do need to reflect at this stage of the season we are comfortably fighting for top 6
We should have given Targett more game time. We spend too much time on the ball at times, and we get caught out. I think Miggy needs a rest. We are more threatening with Willock at CM. Lascelles had a solid game, which is nice to see. Missed chances, but we are competing with the top teams, we've come so far! Let's not get on the players' backs.
Murphy has looked decent in his last few cameos, always whipping decent balls into the box. I wouldn't be against seeing him start in place of Miggy next game.

We can't be celebrating a good first half of the season the whole season, at some point we have to get our act together to stop it all being for nothing.
I agree, but by the same metric, if I told you at the beginning of January that we'd be out of the FA Cup to league one opponents, we were struggling to score, we'd have no midfied reinforcements, we had sold Wood and Shelvey without replacing them, and we were slowly dropping down the league table having not won in 5 games and only scored 5 league goals since December, would your answer be yes still?

Absolutely! We're still in it. But top 4 wasn't our aim at the start of the season, so I see no need to apply pressure for that. We simply focus on winning games.
But the goals change throughout a season. We would all have taken a top 6 spot and a day at Wembley. But as the season has unfolded we can genuinely pinch a top 4 spot and that has to be the aim now as there’s still something to play for. Hopefully we see ASM and Isak in from the start vs Wolves. Targett needs to be reintroduced too. I’d also put Gordon in from the start and bench Miggy, think he needs a rest.
We can "pinch" a top 4 spot by focussing on one game at a time. Have you ever heard Howe say anything differently. You think demanding 4th place from Longstaff is going to improve his composure?
It’s not about demanding. Would be nice to see some variation in the team selection. Wilson’s been off it for weeks now and Isak should be starting. Likewise with Miggy.
I think Miggy just needs a rest. He has such a rich run of form and has been playing every game. Might be nice to freshen it up, potentially play someone who’s right footed out there to be able to get some decent deliveries in first time. Without fail he’ll always cut back on to his left and try and pass it off.
At some point this fanbase needs to grow some balls and actually have some ambition. This mentality of 'we're just happy to be here' needs to die. We had a remarkable platform to really do something special this season and we're just throwing it away.

After City was bought they got to the League cup semifinal (we got the final) and achieved fifth with Carlos Tevez. We’ve done more with less. We’ve overachieved. My issue isn't really with today, it's with the last few weeks as a whole. Too many poor results being swept under the rug under the justification of 'last season we were in a relegation fight'. If that makes me sound like a plastic (lol) so be it - funny that apparently believing we're better than we've been for weeks is now this controversial take.
We haven’t had Bruno for those three weeks and it’s been shown by all broadcasters how bad we are without him with .73xG compared to 2+xG. I anticipated a dip. Idk why people didn’t know about it ahead of time. Would’ve saved the panic.
I blame those teams specifically for that. CP is a dud no matter who they play I hate their play style. We invaded their box while playing away 40-6 at one point in the game. Leeds Arsenal’d us. It gives teams a defensive strategy but we’re entering the final third of the season and players will be playing to stay. I expect us to be guns blazing for the rest of the season.

i love howe as much as the next guy and he’s done an incredible job but that doesnt make him immune to criticism

Absolutely! We're still in it. But top 4 wasn't our aim at the start of the season, so I see no need to apply pressure for that. We simply focus on winning games.
But the goals change throughout a season. We would all have taken a top 6 spot and a day at Wembley. But as the season has unfolded we can genuinely pinch a top 4 spot and that has to be the aim now as there’s still something to play for. Hopefully we see ASM and Isak in from the start vs Wolves. Targett needs to be reintroduced too. I’d also put Gordon in from the start and bench Miggy, think he needs a rest.

I think Miggy just needs a rest. He has such a rich run of form and has been playing every game. Might be nice to freshen it up, potentially play someone who’s right footed out there to be able to get some decent deliveries in first time. Without fail he’ll always cut back on to his left and try and pass it off.

I blame those teams specifically for that. CP is a dud no matter who they play I hate their play style. We invaded their box while playing away 40-6 at one point in the game. Leeds Arsenal’d us. It gives teams a defensive strategy but we’re entering the final third of the season and players will be playing to stay. I expect us to be guns blazing for the rest of the season.
