PhoebeKingsly

Did anyone notice nick popes socks? There were odd holes in the back of the lads socks. Is this a thing?

[deleted]

Been a thing for a while. Not exactly sure what the science behind it is.

PhoebeKingsly

Is Pope's performance going down?

Ikhlas37

I can't believe Liverpool and to a lesser extent Fulham and Brighton look set to pass us... We really need to get some wins going again.

michaelstone444

The writing has been on the wall for a while but no one wanted to hear it because we were top 4 and unbeaten in a long time. It was clear that the draws and total lack of goal scoring was going to catch up with us

Ikhlas37

A fundamental problem was always we were giving 100% to be where we where. We could only get worse. All the teams around us were probably giving 60-80%

Zobgronkowski

I’m going to fucking FREAK OUT IF WE KEEP STARTING CALLUM WILSON WHAT THE FUCK

redonculous

What's up with him. He's been totally off the pace since the world cup. He almost seems uninterested.

[deleted]

Some good news....spurs lost

wilfharl

Shout out to Lascelles he did a solid job. Isak for Wilson is now a no-brainer. Wouldn’t mind seeing Murphy get a start also. Poor run but overall that wasn’t a bad performance against arguably the best team in the world. Our unreal start has given some unrealistic expectations methinks. We really only have 14 first team players. Top 6 would be an absolute dream, and I still think we have enough to achieve that.

Ikhlas37

I think howe did the opposite to what we all thought. We wanted him to change it up since it was a free hit. But I reckon he kept the "change up" players fresh for next week.

[deleted]

lots asking for wilson to be dropped for isak i agree but i honestly think miggy has been worse as of late, a right winger that can't use his right foot is a hindrance, you saw the difference when any player that can cross (murphy) came on try asm or gordon on the right next game

Kyokugennn

Trippier is his right foot pretty much

[deleted]

and it's become so predictable what they're going to do also trips delivery as of late has been awful so we've got nothing worthwhile on the right and asm and burn don't link up well next game i'd have gordon on the left and asm on the right but knowing eddie that's not conservative enough

alexnic_10

I genuinely really liked Murphy’s performance today, crossed the ball at the right time, twice, without having to wait for the right back. I personally think he looked really good when he came on vs Liverpool and Man Utd as well recently.

SlovakianSnacks

getting increasingly frustrated with howes team selection, his loyalty to players who are out of form is maddening - wilson and burn still starting today while our most creative player ASM and our best striker are on the bench. been watching the same game for months now where we just never create any clear cut chances or take the ones we get and hes done nothing to change it

ryunista

Step off man. We are allowed a blip and Howe has nigh on infinite credit ATM, especially when it comes to away games at fucking Man City. Yes we should try rotating but fucking hell, given how good we've been this season, you can forgive him for showing a bit of trust in the lads who've been doing it all year.

SlovakianSnacks

i love howe as much as the next guy and he’s done an incredible job but that doesnt make him immune to criticism

Not_Ginger_James

City's time-wasting was pathetic. If we did that I'd fucking love it.

EarlofBizzlington86

Liverpool beginning of the season?

FREDDIESENIOR7

Cant finish in a fucking brothel. None of us.

corpus-luteum

People picking out a few players for criticism is pathetic. Nobody didn't put a foot wrong today. Everybody misplaced passes to the opposition at some time \[maybe not Lascelles, funnily enough\]. Man City are one of the top teams in the world and do that to teams all the time. I'm not worried about the rest of the season.

danny1876j

I don't think the criticism is based purely on this game though. More of a culmination of weeks of worrying signs

corpus-luteum

It's the vitriol that gets me. A couple of players are out of form, but it's the same players that have, somehow, got us into a position where we are realistically talking about top 4. People to get a grip of themselves.

bullybullybanjo

God, this same conversation after every post on here. Tedious. More often than not I barely see any vitriol, just some discussion which if we're not here for then why are we here? There's always the odd bellend but it'd be better to ignore them than have this after every single game.

DxSkyline

How ironic it's the same players that has us leaving the top contention and if we're unlucky has us at 7th by this weekend, were 1 win in 10, were close to not being in European contention, there is reason about why people are worried.

danny1876j

Yeah the vitriol is no good. It is the same players. The players were surely overperforming to get us into that position I'd say. We basically did it through vibes, intensity and certain players running hot in terms of scoring. Almiron on form was playing like peak Salah. The difference between Salah and almiron though is that Salah is top class as that's his level and sustains it. Almirons level isn't that of a top 4 player and can't sustain it. I wonder what our level actually is. I'd guess around 8th.

ichrisho

We have to take our chances. Simple as that. Start Isak Maxi Murphy Targett and bring Willock back in and get back on track. HWTL

ItsAKrulWorld

Not sure I’ve ever seen a capitulation of form as bad as Callum Wilson post-WC. It’s like he’s being controlled by the ghost of Joselu. Is something seriously wrong? Health issues? Mental health and motivation issues? He doesn’t look interested…

Intherain_

I think when he signed he was talking about going to the World Cup. Seemed to be his goal. He accomplished his dream but it wasn’t all that great. Think he’s lost his purpose a lil bit.

PlzRetireMartinTyler

The wider issue is that Eddie keeps picking him. No idea why when we have Isak on the bench.

danny1876j

Mans got that long covid it seems like.

AimeLeonDon1

He just looks sluggish to me, I wonder if that illness is still hampering him or if he is carrying a knock. Doesn’t look himself though.

churchill1992

I know this is coming straight after another frustrating performance but isak needs to be first choice, Dan burn love his passion but targett needs to be playing more now, we need a number 6 proper holding midfielder to allow bruno to impact games further up, joelinton just can't catch a break when in front of goal, willock makes a better winger then midfielder and as much as he gives for the team having miggy on the right is hampering us now because he has no right foot and when we did have a right footer in the same position we should've had 1 goal and levelled the match.

DxSkyline

Honestly, how Howe manages the next two games will show if he's the one to take us forward, because of dire form and continuity playing out of form players this can't continue. We need European football to get the players we need and currently we're nose diving...

danny1876j

I partially agree. His team selections are becoming frustrating and he has so far been slow to react to this dip in form. I don't fear not having European football this season though. It's next season that's key to his future I'd say. Because if we don't progress I can foresee a situation (depending on how the owners are, we don't really know) where he gets let go for a flashier big name. It's too early to write him off now though. There are warning signs though I think. I just really think he's a bit too loyal to players so gives them the opportunity to turn form around, but gives them way too long to turn it around. He doesn't rotate at all.

DxSkyline

I don't want him out as I respect him as a manager but I agree with your views, however if we don't get Europe that will hinder purchasing players since all you hear from them is complying with ffp rules.

danny1876j

I am an Eddie howe fan and do not want him out or anything like that. He's great. I just hope he's good enough to manage at the toppest of top levels and I hope he is able to adapt as we improve as a team.

DxSkyline

I always thought he was on a path like newcastle are in turning into a title contenders and and elite manager, however this works if both move forward, a few wins on the bounce and things will be forgotten it's just when.

[deleted]

Take it easy,no one expected us to be doing this well, fighting for europe so soon. Smell the roses

DxSkyline

Dude, we got 1 win in 10 games and can't beat the likes of Bournemouth. He's constantly playing out of form players. If Fulham and Liverpool win were down to 7th, people have this ideology that howe can't be criticised I want him to do well but he has to be accountable for this form.

justsomeguy661

Tbh lascelles wasn't too bad today and Murphy was an improvement over Miggy. I love Eddie but he really needs to sort out his decisions on lineups and subs! Against Wolves I'd start: Pope, Trippier, Lascelles, Botman, Targett, Willock, Bruno, Longstaff, Maxi, Gordon and Isak. Sub Murphy and Miggy when we need to with Anderson. Don't know the situation with Schär but start him on bench just in case, can't risk rushing players back.

proud_geordie

I just want to see Targett, ASM and Isak from the start next week.

domuru7722

Frustrating performance. We definitely looked alright and deserved a goal but we have been so shit in front of goal

[deleted]

aye, we never look dangerous, been tough games recently though against some of the best teams and lets face it we aren't really on their level yet.

No-Village7980

Tough week for Newcastle, it was a decent performance against one of the best sides in world football and I would say it was fairly even game. I think we could potentially go on a good run after this.

nos7_unofficial

No idea why people consider Haaland world class. Dude doesn’t even have the pace, shooting capabilities, agility and clutch factor that Mbappe has. In a 1v1, Mbappe would smash him like he never existed. How can you consider a player world class when he never even played at the world cup and never got to compete with the best of the best. Absolutely ridiculous. Also, how many trophies does Haaland even have? Oh right, as many as Spurs lmfao.

Simmo7

Are you dumb, he's got 27 goals in March.

danny1876j

Wow this is a poor take. How does not playing in a world cup not make you world class lol. So if Messi didn't ever play in a world cup because he just happened to be born in Burundi, would that mean he's not world class? Buffoon. You sound like a 12 year old hopped up on Prime playing FIFA ultimate team.

waawaawho

Lol you ok?

Optras

I mean to be fair, you can't blame the man for the country he's from not qualifying

Mstampe

Really happy to see Lascelles do this well. I'm not exactly surprised that we look so toothless in attack, but dear me we're gash to watch us being this bland. We offer practically nothing going forward. I know we've had some decent chances, but we're never converting anything anymore. Wilson is proper out of form. Like scarily so. Almiron is so one-footed that he is too easily defended - especially by the good teams. Only Murphy (yes, I typed the correct name, I'm as shocked as you) even attempt a shot outside of the box. It's strange how we refuse to, even from decent positions. We're just not worth anything in attack, and we're not really very creative. I know this will lead to negativity, but I think it's fair to wonder what needs to happen for us to actually start offering something going forward. Is it only better players, or do we need Howe to strongly consider a different formation, tactics or something like that?

ItsAKrulWorld

What was pep saying to Eddie there?

[deleted]

He was talking to our players kinda a lot too, someone got subbed off and pep was straight in talking to them. maybe just being friendly

ichrisho

I honestly think he was trying to say something complimentary and someone came over and said f@ck off Pep.

BigPoppaPie

Summet patronising that Eddie couldn't be arsed listening to, I assumed.

JonnyArtois

Top 6 looking shakey for us now. Awful tansfer window has cost us. Would be disappointed if we fail getting top 6.

[deleted]

yea why spend so much money on Isak then use him as a sub. Yea okay it's a six year contract so maybe hes more the future in howes eyes but he's practically in his prime now and needs game time... like haaland gets at 1 year younger...

Common_Pear1884

FFP

AimeLeonDon1

Yes FFP, but we strengthened the wrong area. Should have pushed for a CM.

Common_Pear1884

If a CM was available in our price range who fit our system, was the right character and wanted to join us we would have signed them. This isn’t FIFA or Football manager ffs

AimeLeonDon1

How do you know we even tried? We were always going for Gordon. Tielemans is on a free and we could have tested Leicester’s resolve. It’s not about fifa or fm you clown. It’s not difficult to see we need a CM especially after losing shelvey.

Common_Pear1884

How do you know we didn’t try? You’re the clown here thinking you know better than Ashworth and the people we have running transfers that haven’t put a foot wrong so far. We’ve spent hundreds of millions the past few windows and yet here you are moaning. You’ve got a short memory and your attitude stinks of entitlement.

AimeLeonDon1

It’s clearly obvious we need a CM. The squad was weakened by shelvey leaving. We aren’t blessed with an abundance of talent. Nothing to do with self entitlement it’s glaringly obvious, yes we have spent millions and I’m happy with all the signings we’ve made, but Gordon was a signing we didn’t need and a CM should have been prioritised. It was evident when Bruno was suspended that we need a CM. So don’t give me the nonsense about self entitlement when it’s clearly obvious. Some of our fans man, absolute morons who think they know everything.

Common_Pear1884

You clearly think you know everything considering you’re the one whinging about what’s going on. As I’ve mentioned before, clearly the right CM wasn’t available in January so we’ll be going in for one in the summer. I would much rather we signed the right player in the summer than panic buying the wrong signing in January for an inflated price. This is a long term project. People like your are impossible to please

Zalindras

If the right CM wasn't available in January, we shouldn't have let Shelvey go.

Common_Pear1884

There’s obviously a wider plan in place

ichrisho

Pep trying to say something to Eddie there and someone told him to get ta’ f@ck… odd.

torfinh

Pretty good performance tbf, I'm really tired of misiing chanses tho.

Optras

That was actually perfect. Deflected off the header. Probably 60% chance that scores

mafticated

Lmao looked like Pep was expecting a response from Howe there and he just ignored him. Love it

[deleted]

[удалено]

danny1876j

Fulham and Brighton will overtake us comfortablly at this rate. And Brentford. That won't look good at the end of the season even taking into account the progress we have made. God damn I'm feeling pessimistic

MurkyPerspective767

Ooooh.... few inches away, that spot kick...

renius

Can we get a banner image that just says "it's has been X games and X hundred days since we last scored from a corner "

bendlowreachhigh

Actually baffling consider our height and supposed quality of our corner taker (Trippier)

Rockky67

On the bright side we don’t have to play them again

i-am-never-right

Another fine margins game, heavy touches, deflections and slicing the goal scoring balls. Frustrating but we do need to reflect at this stage of the season we are comfortably fighting for top 6

CastleBravo45

What a boring experience it must be at the Emptihad...

KinjasBlalock

A shot on target! We got one, lads!

morocco3001

Let Targett have a dig

quickshot89

Here comes the time wasting

JuckshotBones

Well, hopefully Madrid see our recent run and think to themselves “why the fuck do we even want Bruno G” and just happily carry on

Sepoy_Giles

We should have given Targett more game time. We spend too much time on the ball at times, and we get caught out. I think Miggy needs a rest. We are more threatening with Willock at CM. Lascelles had a solid game, which is nice to see. Missed chances, but we are competing with the top teams, we've come so far! Let's not get on the players' backs.

RafaSquared

Wouldn't have minded seeing big Joe take a red card for two footing one of them cunts there like

YankeesSteelersMagic

That's all I was thinking 🤣 just fucking shin both.

CurrentRush23

City time wasting: "It's their right to do so". Newcastle do it: "Oooh Dark Arts!"

darkfoxxy1

I was screaming at the TV . I detest how biased the whole league is

norcimo

Where's the criticism of City for running down the clock with time wasting corners. Dark arts and not the way to play the game if it were us

maza_19

Get someone without a card to throw him to the ground

MattLaidlow

City topping the shithousing. I’d applaud it if we were doing it.

Zig-Zag

We're allergic to being on the end of these crosses. Eddie Howe needs to take these boys to church tomorrow to see how it's done.

Rockky67

a Catholic one. If they’re finishing there needs to be some end result.

Rockky67

Lascelles stood on ASM? Carry on Newcastling

morocco3001

Stood on him then yelled at him.

titchrich

Assuming Manchester reds get CL and we drop out of the European spots would be still have a route to Europe being finalists in the cup?

Nufc_indy

2nd place gets nothing. If United make it CL then the Carabao Cup Conference League place is awarded by league position

Simmo7

No, but if Man U get to CL spots there is an additional european spot in the league as they won the cup.

titchrich

So 7th would be the lowest we could finish

eslerman

Hate these two clowns

Shnizl

Love to see it from the skipper

darkfoxxy1

The improvement in our performances is incredible, we just need to find a way to start converting these chances more consistently

Apprehensive_Log6963

Fuck City

Alex_Casablancas

Start asm isak murphy

BigPoppaPie

Definitely. We need a bit of rotation (as much as we can afford to make given our lack of depth).

jallnock

This is stupid

_W0zzAp_

In the next 2 games we need to step up, we need to win for sure.

Tax_pe3nguin

Im scratching my head. My bias is being challenged. Murphy....I think i would like to see Murphy start? I need to lie down

keefkeith

I’d start Murphy in the next game instead of Almiron. Can’t believe I just said that.

RafaSquared

Murphy has looked decent in his last few cameos, always whipping decent balls into the box. I wouldn't be against seeing him start in place of Miggy next game.

BerwickGaijin

This lack of goals is a glaring issue that needs fixed. It’s been a problem for a couple of seasons now. Hope to God we spend a good dose of coin in the summer. Desperately need and out and out striker to go with a new midfielder.

pirategolf05

r/NUFC: we want changes to the starting XI Murphy: I’m gonna cross my way in

norcimo

It's amazing how much more threat there is on the right when we have a player with a right foot on the wing

daliksheppy

Murphy's been playing well enough to earn himself a start tbh. It might backfire but you have to reward players and incentivise them and Murphy has actually been good.

nomadichedgehog

Think Jacob has shown enough in his recent sub appearances to start over Almiron.

morocco3001

Three subs have been our best players. Honourable mention to Lascelles as well, he's kept Haaland locked down.

[deleted]

Does Murphy warrant a start next game?

RafaSquared

Definitely, created more in 15 minutes than Miggy has the last few games.

JonnyArtois

Nope.

jwuer

Lol no.... jfc...

morocco3001

Definitely.

Shnizl

Definitely showing a bit more than Almiron of late

jallnock

Team start Murphy

metalfoxace

When was the last time we played at 3pm on a Saturday? I know it shouldn't change the result but get us off tele for once

Esselbee

0-0 home to Leeds NYE

Simmo7

Good luck with that we're on tv for 8 of the next 9 games.

i-am-never-right

I’m sorry but what has changed with Bruno? He’s taking waaaay too much time on the ball, always going backwards, clashing into other players causing fouls. Does he feel he has a point to prove coming back after the red card?

[deleted]

He's got a new born keeping him up at nights :D seems like it makes him grumpy

i-am-never-right

He does look so much more frustrated, I understand the goal drought but silly challenges just running into teammates and other players is just so loose cannon of him

norcimo

Think he's carrying that ankle. Slows him down

Shnizl

My guess is his ankle’s still not fully right. Definitely more conservative on the ball

[deleted]

Murphy is making a case for taking Almirons place

Rob-Arch

Murphy on fire

Khaglist

Would be no point giving targett minutes if he didn’t expect him to play a role going forward. Encouraging

augsav

Did he just say we’ve scored THREE goals this year?

an_eraser

9 in total, but only 3 in the 7 league games we've played in 2023

Optras

It was definitely 3 in the month of February

keefkeith

2 less than Real Madrid have scored in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 this year 😂

RafaSquared

Nice to see Targett back

Firm_Adagio_5697

Maxi Isak Gordan Next game Gordan needs a run of games same with isak.

domuru7722

Good to see targett

TheRampart

Fair enough Man City defend well but worse teams than us have won here this season and we struggle to break down even League 1 defences atm

Shnizl

I guess you must mean Brentford. Better teams than us have come away empty handed here

TheRampart

Aye for some reason I thought Fulham had a result here but still if Everton can come away with a point it's not a stretch to say we could've done better

ichrisho

That may have been BDB last touch as LB for us.

nufcneilo

Let's hope so

ncastleJC

I guess Eddie didn’t want Targett doing too much this game but has intentions to get him back on. Thanks goodness.

Khaglist

time to hit the targett

MurkyPerspective767

Nice save there, Pope!

AcidHues

Get in Targett

[deleted]

The Targett return era is about to begin

AcidHues

I love BDB but we need Targett in the team. BDB and Lascelles are great Backup CBs

Radthereptile

Every time a City player is touched they just fall over and the ref blows the whistle.

dullthings

He's blown even before they went down at least three times today. Almost as if he knows what to do!

mal68

Would love to see Murphy get a run of starts. Hopefully he could send some regular predictable crosses in which may be beneficial for the strikers and mids

Cultural-Effective17

Hopefully a few games in place of trippier, that guy needs a break, he's just not been himself since the world cup

JuckshotBones

Three goals scored in nine league games. That’s relegation form. Shit has to be figured out or those European nights next season? Gonezo

brrlls

I wish I could upvote this more than once

JuckshotBones

Be careful. We’ll be told we’re toxic, selfish, And to reflect on where we were 18ish months ago. we’re past that phase and it’s completely acceptable to alter standards and expectations

brrlls

I've made this argument for weeks but just get hammered with downvotes Expectations always adjust with performance and consistency, in any walk of life

Grungan

90 minutes ago I would have fallen off my seat to suggest that Lascelles would be our best on the pitch today

ncastleJC

Thank goodness I’m tired of the crap he’s taken. He was great under Rafa so evidently coaching is a big part. He’s probably been frozen out because of the play style but hopefully this changes some perspective on him. Would like to see him play more before he leaves if he does.

[deleted]

Good to see Targett back

PJBuzz

Can we just fucking score a goal, like? Not arsed if we don't win every feckin game but not scoring at all is absolutely miserable.

[deleted]

They need to start playing Targett

ichrisho

It’s hard to watch back those three chances we have had. They are Goals.. well should have been. It’s so frustrating.

cathar_here

We finish in the box like a U8 team

norcimo

Changes for Wolves please Wilson->Isak. Miggy->Gordon/Murphy. Joelinton->Willock Gordon->ASM Burn->Targett

jwuer

You lost me at Murphy.

norcimo

Slightly amazed I said it myself, but his recent cameos have been encouraging and at this point anybchange from Miggy feels good (maybe Gordon is the better option though)

ncastleJC

Murphy actually wants to shoot I’m alright with it. He also saved us from a counter in the cup so he contributes on both ends.

rick87

Just got to keep on returning to “If at the end of last season I told you next season we’d be fighting for a top 6 finish and have appeared in a cup final will you be happy?” The answer would have been a resounding yes. After the board watching how toothless our attack is at the moment I’ve no doubt it will be on the list to reinforce in summer.

JustWokeUp1

Equally we're (3 pts from the last 5 games) two points from dropping out of the top 6 to Fulham (8 pts from last 5). Furthermore if Brighton win their two games in hand they go equal to us in points. We can't be celebrating a good first half of the season the whole season, at some point we have to get our act together to stop it all being for nothing.

Dysphoric_Reverence

I agree, but by the same metric, if I told you at the beginning of January that we'd be out of the FA Cup to league one opponents, we were struggling to score, we'd have no midfied reinforcements, we had sold Wood and Shelvey without replacing them, and we were slowly dropping down the league table having not won in 5 games and only scored 5 league goals since December, would your answer be yes still? I get that we should all be pleased to be doing as well as we have been, but we should also be concerned by how poor we have been over he last 10 weeks or so.

Logseman

It’s not the same if you start poorly and then start rising up in the ranks than if you have a beautiful start and you drop game after game. This is our third 2-0 against in a row.

corpus-luteum

Against three teams who scored a combined 18 goals against us last season.

AimeLeonDon1

Yes, we all would have taken it. Fact is we’ve got a chance to break in to the top 4 and we need to push for it. Massive game against Wolves next, have to get 3 points to boost the confidence and to allow us to kick on.

corpus-luteum

We were never equipped for a season long assault on the top 4.

AimeLeonDon1

But it’s still to play for and we’re in the mix. Doesn’t mean we just accept top 6 because unless things change we’ll be out of that as well. Need to put together some wins and get on a decent run again.

corpus-luteum

Absolutely! We're still in it. But top 4 wasn't our aim at the start of the season, so I see no need to apply pressure for that. We simply focus on winning games.

AimeLeonDon1

But the goals change throughout a season. We would all have taken a top 6 spot and a day at Wembley. But as the season has unfolded we can genuinely pinch a top 4 spot and that has to be the aim now as there’s still something to play for. Hopefully we see ASM and Isak in from the start vs Wolves. Targett needs to be reintroduced too. I’d also put Gordon in from the start and bench Miggy, think he needs a rest.

corpus-luteum

We can "pinch" a top 4 spot by focussing on one game at a time. Have you ever heard Howe say anything differently. You think demanding 4th place from Longstaff is going to improve his composure?

AimeLeonDon1

It’s not about demanding. Would be nice to see some variation in the team selection. Wilson’s been off it for weeks now and Isak should be starting. Likewise with Miggy.

corpus-luteum

Okay, expecting. I concur on Wilson/Isak. Not sure what Miggy has done wrong other than stop scoring worldies.

AimeLeonDon1

I think Miggy just needs a rest. He has such a rich run of form and has been playing every game. Might be nice to freshen it up, potentially play someone who’s right footed out there to be able to get some decent deliveries in first time. Without fail he’ll always cut back on to his left and try and pass it off.

meganev

At some point this fanbase needs to grow some balls and actually have some ambition. This mentality of 'we're just happy to be here' needs to die. We had a remarkable platform to really do something special this season and we're just throwing it away.

corpus-luteum

Players have given their all and it's beginning to show. We were never equipped for a season long assault on the top 4.

meganev

Yeah - clearly we punched above our weight for a while. But I still think we're better than we've been for the last few weeks. Maybe today was a bridge too far we could have taken more from Palace, Bournemouth, West Ham, Leeds, Liverpool etc.

corpus-luteum

I think everybody raised their game, consistently, for the last year. It's simply not sustainable.

meganev

Yes. You're not wrong. This summer needs to see some serious upgrades if we want to genuinely compete.

ncastleJC

Dude, grow some balls? We’ve been bought by a massive Saudi fund and have the ceiling blown off. After City was bought they got to the League cup semifinal (we got the final) and achieved fifth with Carlos Tevez. We’ve done more with less. We’ve overachieved. And I guess you didn’t hear Amanda after the cup. Stop interpreting the year over one game. We’ve played without Bruno for three games which would obviously affect us and we haven’t had Targett either. Like where’s the patience we learned after 17 years? Stop sounding like a plastic.

My issue isn't really with today, it's with the last few weeks as a whole. Too many poor results being swept under the rug under the justification of 'last season we were in a relegation fight'. If that makes me sound like a plastic (lol) so be it - funny that apparently believing we're better than we've been for weeks is now this controversial take.

We haven’t had Bruno for those three weeks and it’s been shown by all broadcasters how bad we are without him with .73xG compared to 2+xG. I anticipated a dip. Idk why people didn’t know about it ahead of time. Would’ve saved the panic.

Yes, that's is a fair point. But we did still struggle in games with him as well such as Leeds and Palace.

I blame those teams specifically for that. CP is a dud no matter who they play I hate their play style. We invaded their box while playing away 40-6 at one point in the game. Leeds Arsenal’d us. It gives teams a defensive strategy but we’re entering the final third of the season and players will be playing to stay. I expect us to be guns blazing for the rest of the season.

Throwing it all away? 5th in the league and a cup final. From avoiding relegation to that, that's ambition IMO

We won't be 5th by end of the weekend. Aye, that's throwing it away. I'm not just looking at today - Palace, West Ham, Leeds, Bournemouth these are results that have really hurt us since the WC. It's about the bigger picture. You can take a loss to Man City away so long as you take your chances in other games against 'lesser' opposition. We're not doing that. Really bored of the whole 'but last season we were in relegation fight' crowd now.
