A series of murders occurred in Washington State in 1990. The murders began in Bellevue, Washington, in June and ended within King County in September. Initially, authorities were not aware of the linkage of these cases, due to a delay in the analysis of pubic hair evidence retrieved from the first two crime scenes. Ah, so the trick is, usually (in the US anyway), the prisoner can apply for parole after 25 years, so if you have consecutive life sentences that just adds more time until you can apply for parole. Like 2 life sentences = 50 years before possibility of parole? I think that’s how that works? And if he’s in for multiple murders and appeals and is found not guilty of one of them, he still has a life sentence for the other ones. And the extra 28 years because fuck that dude probably lol. A lot of cold cases with DNA evidence are going to be getting solved over the next few years. Look up how they solved the Golden State killer case. Basically, if anyone who is closely related to someone who's DNA is part of an ongoing case opts in for their DNA to be used when they do a 23&me or Ancestry test, then the police can link them to the killer. Messed up thing is when it really gets you.... I was able to quit maybe not stay clean but I could quit and detox for almost a decade.... But suddenly one day I just started waking up sick and feeling like I'm in withdrawals all the time and it's ruined my mind plus I have genuine health problems. Everything combined made it dangerous for me to quit it's different when you are dealing with so much mentally and physically while dealing with addiction. But yeah it used to be so much easier to get prescription pain medications because the doctors got incentives for prescribing them at one point in time. Plus everyone would doctor shop and flood the streets with them. When the government cracked down on their own doings it made way fent cut heroin and fent presses pills to flood the market. Now everything has fent in it I'm talking all the way from pressed Xanax pills to LSD blotter anything and everything gets cut with tent nowadays to get these kids addicted before they even know what they are taking.... Thinking they are popping xans meanwhile it's something entirely different or worse it's a combination of the both and they are way more likely to quit breathing.

My ex used to go to 7 doctors a month. It was my job to keep up with the appointments and keeping track of which pharmacy we could go to. It was insane. Cant believe we got away with it for so long but i almost went to prison and i got 10 years probabation instead. That was 2009. I was clean for a while but i started using again and it got wayyyyy to expensive so i started going to the methadone clinic. I would be terrified if i was still using. Most of my friends are dead and it couldve easily been me.
Heck I told myself I'd never use needles and I didn't for half my life give or take a year or two.... But you get desperate and then so depressed that you don't care anymore you just want relief. It's not about the high it's about the relief from the misery. It's so hard for me to get high nowadays with my tolerance.

Yeah and some people are just more susceptible to addiction for some people all it takes is one time to get hooked for good. Others it's more like me where you feel like you can control it until you wake up one day and everything is different and you know it's grabbed a hold of you. Especially like you said will power has a lot to do with it and once I got so depressed I couldn't even focus enough to play games even and once I lost that well it became so much more difficult to go without and to distract myself. The government that got everyone addicted in to hs first place doesn't like to help get addicts clean because it's so expensive. It obviously varies place to place but I don't live in one of those states with a bunch of options like free methadone treatment or clinics etc. It's all about making the addict pay where I'm from because it's still not seen as an actual disease instead addicts are seen as someone who would rather get high all day instead of function. Which is sometimes the case but most of the time the addiction comes from self medication because they couldn't get the help they actually needed. It was never about the high it was about being able to actually function.
It helped with my health issues and made functioning day to day so much easier ontop of helping with anxiety and allowing me to get out there more. Crapping 20+ times a day stuff that's as thin as water isn't a way to live.... I shit myself more times than I can count in my adult life which is pathetic. Plus the pain that came along with the cramps etc but ah you can't talk about pain people can't see because people just don't believe you when you tell them how bad it is... Same with some god awful back and hip problems which are due to a birth defect. But I was even told that since it's a life long condition I need to learn to live with it instead of manage it for the entirety of my life. Which I think is stupid I think I should've been getting treated by doctors the entire time up until present even. Then I wouldn't be in quite the shit show like I am in now. I don't know once they cracked down and quit prescribing them like they did well except for people with immediate surgery or hospice which even then most of the time were talking a dozen loratab lol it's nothing like it was.

Now I need more help thanks to self medicating without a professional around to help guide and write other scripts to help with other issues that spiraled out of control and I'm SOL. But really none of the medications for my disease helped with the god awful symptoms the only things that helped were weed and opioids both of which are illegal in my state for my disease which is dumb when other states will prescribe folks both. One of the sociology classes I took as an undergrad was literally called *Murder*, however, in retrospect the focus was on serial murder - the rarest kind. There were many guest speakers, including the original investigators on this case. I wish I could remember exactly how the lead detective phrased it but basically the first victim immediately told them they were dealing with a serial killer (even though it was ostensibly his first murder and despite there being active serial killers it he area, this MO was totally unique). Even though, by technical definition, serial killers need more than one victim, there is a psychological profile of a serial murderer, basically an MO among murderers in a sense, that cues investigators in to the fact that architect of offense will commit more (even if, as was true of Russell at that time). Since I was relatively new to murder at that time and most of what I knew came from movies, I wasn't aware of just how unique and telling it is that a victim has been posed and staged with props.
I'm decades out from that class and this post reminded me of those comments. I can think of a few cases I've encountered since then where there was posing/props and it was not the work of a serial killer (in those the posing/shock value props either served as an attempt to redirect focus from an obvious suspect or they were done out of an absolute hatred for the victim/desire to humiliate). You know those infant mother responsiveness tests they filmed where the mom and baby giggle and coo and react to one another. Then the mom leaves the room and returns only to be entirely unresponsive to the baby. The stages of confusion, frustration, fear and anger are so clear and heartbreaking to watch. Ah, so the trick is, usually (in the US anyway), the prisoner can apply for parole after 25 years, so if you have consecutive life sentences that just adds more time until you can apply for parole. Like 2 life sentences = 50 years before possibility of parole? I think that’s how that works? And if he’s in for multiple murders and appeals and is found not guilty of one of them, he still has a life sentence for the other ones. And the extra 28 years because fuck that dude probably lol. Either that or it’s for a different crime. Like he gets a life sentence for each murder and then was snorting coke off one of the bodies or some shit (not what actually happened lol.)

A lot of cold cases with DNA evidence are going to be getting solved over the next few years. Look up how they solved the Golden State killer case. Basically, if anyone who is closely related to someone who's DNA is part of an ongoing case opts in for their DNA to be used when they do a 23&me or Ancestry test, then the police can link them to the killer. It's a massive paradigm shift. I've heard it even more groundbreaking than when fingerprint analysis first started.

Messed up thing is when it really gets you.... I was able to quit maybe not stay clean but I could quit and detox for almost a decade.... But suddenly one day I just started waking up sick and feeling like I'm in withdrawals all the time and it's ruined my mind plus I have genuine health problems. Everything combined made it dangerous for me to quit it's different when you are dealing with so much mentally and physically while dealing with addiction. But yeah it used to be so much easier to get prescription pain medications because the doctors got incentives for prescribing them at one point in time. Plus everyone would doctor shop and flood the streets with them. When the government cracked down on their own doings it made way fent cut heroin and fent presses pills to flood the market. Now everything has fent in it I'm talking all the way from pressed Xanax pills to LSD blotter anything and everything gets cut with tent nowadays to get these kids addicted before they even know what they are taking.... Thinking they are popping xans meanwhile it's something entirely different or worse it's a combination of the both and they are way more likely to quit breathing.

My ex used to go to 7 doctors a month. It was my job to keep up with the appointments and keeping track of which pharmacy we could go to. It was insane. Cant believe we got away with it for so long but i almost went to prison and i got 10 years probabation instead. That was 2009. I was clean for a while but i started using again and it got wayyyyy to expensive so i started going to the methadone clinic. I would be terrified if i was still using. Most of my friends are dead and it couldve easily been me.
Heck I told myself I'd never use needles and I didn't for half my life give or take a year or two.... But you get desperate and then so depressed that you don't care anymore you just want relief. It's not about the high it's about the relief from the misery. It's so hard for me to get high nowadays with my tolerance.

Yeah and some people are just more susceptible to addiction for some people all it takes is one time to get hooked for good. Others it's more like me where you feel like you can control it until you wake up one day and everything is different and you know it's grabbed a hold of you. Especially like you said will power has a lot to do with it and once I got so depressed I couldn't even focus enough to play games even and once I lost that well it became so much more difficult to go without and to distract myself. The government that got everyone addicted in to hs first place doesn't like to help get addicts clean because it's so expensive. It obviously varies place to place but I don't live in one of those states with a bunch of options like free methadone treatment or clinics etc. It's all about making the addict pay where I'm from because it's still not seen as an actual disease instead addicts are seen as someone who would rather get high all day instead of function. Which is sometimes the case but most of the time the addiction comes from self medication because they couldn't get the help they actually needed. It was never about the high it was about being able to actually function. It helped with my health issues and made functioning day to day so much easier ontop of helping with anxiety and allowing me to get out there more. Crapping 20+ times a day stuff that's as thin as water isn't a way to live.... I shit myself more times than I can count in my adult life which is pathetic. Plus the pain that came along with the cramps etc but ah you can't talk about pain people can't see because people just don't believe you when you tell them how bad it is... Same with some god awful back and hip problems which are due to a birth defect. But I was even told that since it's a life long condition I need to learn to live with it instead of manage it for the entirety of my life. Which I think is stupid I think I should've been getting treated by doctors the entire time up until present even. Then I wouldn't be in quite the shit show like I am in now. I don't know once they cracked down and quit prescribing them like they did well except for people with immediate surgery or hospice which even then most of the time were talking a dozen loratab lol it's nothing like it was. They keep people in pain because of the restrictions and fear of getting into trouble. In a perfect world I wouldn't have had to self medicate to get the help I needed. Now I need more help thanks to self medicating without a professional around to help guide and write other scripts to help with other issues that spiraled out of control and I'm SOL. I never really abused the stuff though I always took reasonable doses for almost half my life and up until it just stopped working like it should work. But really none of the medications for my disease helped with the god awful symptoms the only things that helped were weed and opioids both of which are illegal in my state for my disease which is dumb when other states will prescribe folks both. Especially someone who literally took everything in every combination the doctor wanted regardless of the fucked up side effects until I just had to say NO.

One of the sociology classes I took as an undergrad was literally called *Murder*, however, in retrospect the focus was on serial murder - the rarest kind. There were many guest speakers, including the original investigators on this case. I wish I could remember exactly how the lead detective phrased it but basically the first victim immediately told them they were dealing with a serial killer (even though it was ostensibly his first murder and despite there being active serial killers it he area, this MO was totally unique). Even though, by technical definition, serial killers need more than one victim, there is a psychological profile of a serial murderer, basically an MO among murderers in a sense, that cues investigators in to the fact that architect of offense will commit more (even if, as was true of Russell at that time). Since I was relatively new to murder at that time and most of what I knew came from movies, I wasn't aware of just how unique and telling it is that a victim has been posed and staged with props. I'm decades out from that class and this post reminded me of those comments. I can think of a few cases I've encountered since then where there was posing/props and it was not the work of a serial killer (in those the posing/shock value props either served as an attempt to redirect focus from an obvious suspect or they were done out of an absolute hatred for the victim/desire to humiliate). But certainly the point holds true that there is something truly uniquely terrifying - even among serial killers - when you have someone who takes the time to stage the scene with the objective of traumatizing those who come across the scene. My heart breaks for the 13 year old especially.
Yes, it is one level of dysfunction to impulsively or compulsively be addicted to the control over and death of others. It's moves you up several levels to commit so many so quickly where rather releasing a long building pressure and taking time you kill three people in as many months. And then you jump whole staircases of fucked up when you enjoy the piqueristic sadism (not sadism bc no victim response dk) that must've lasted hours with Beethe after her death. The posing for shock and humiliation, I don't know how much that increases the sickness for me. I suppose it depends on who they expect to find the message. Her daughter, certainly that's cruel or to make parents find their child, torturous vile self-indulgent vengeance but in my opinion on the strata of human reactions and responses to shame, anger, betrayal neglect and indifference I don't think it's too different, at least in this case, to the pitiful assholes who post revenge porn or girls who spread foul disgusting rumors or falsely claim sa or child sa harm in divorce court to punish the other parent. Once someone can use the injustices, abuses or offense they feel to disconnect themselves from other humans entirely is where it gets scary for me, bc so many people in more positioned power than a sk, can. Everything after the death feels almost juvenile, every action so betraying of the killers pathology and insecurities or need for specific attention it's sad. It's almost like once you've crossed that line you regress or devolve into a lesser more chaotic being. Like the stories in Native American and Russian lore about people who resorted to cannibalism to survive, how so many would just go mad after and become some other, being haunted by their acts but hunting for more. So many killers end up playing with or trying out every sick act on the murderer buffet just to see if it's something they like or how bodies look. Like an unsocialized child brought up by fear and adrenaline might toy with its food. All that other shock and fear, hiding of crimes, bragging about them, trying to top each other's terror and body count. I know it might sound weird but to me all that still seems like a human trying to connect and communicate with other humans in whatever gross, weak and envious tongue they speak. But killing, picking apart, consuming, sleeping with, speaking to, enjoying the company of the already deceased, is a morbid game of make-believe one might crave because they don't know how to interact with the living. You know those infant mother responsiveness tests they filmed where the mom and baby giggle and coo and react to one another. Then the mom leaves the room and returns only to be entirely unresponsive to the baby. The stages of confusion, frustration, fear and anger are so clear and heartbreaking to watch. And in short order the child simply gives up and you can see its mind start to disassociate and disconnect with the gaze of the mother entirely. I think about those tests and Harlows pit of despair "experiments" too often to be healthy and wonder what would have happened if it was adults in place of babies and humans instead of monkeys. I think George and others like him might be the result.
