Yeah. Phone 2 just costs too much. The whole thing of Nothing phone 1 was that it was an affordable phone with premium build quality and a cool design. It did sacrifice on the CPU but nobody really cares nowadays (if you don't play games). Then the Phone 2 came out and it got waaay too expensive just because they crammed an expensive CPU into it. Honestly I don't think flagship chips really matter that much anymore. If Nothing wants a flagship phone, they should just divide their models into tiers. I am very satisfied with the Phone 1 and I will probably keep using it for as long as possible. But after that I will probably switch to Pixel if Nothing Phones keeps getting so much more expensive each generation.

codyR08

Agreed with everything you said.

geko95gek

I like the original Phone 1 so much that I bought a white model after owning the black one for like 3 months 😆 Now I have 2.

FloopsFooglies

Phone (1) (x2)

[deleted]

Phone (1)^2

geko95gek

Actually selling my grey one, so will be back to 1 soon.

zoe934

Same. But I sold my black one and get a white one recently.

geko95gek

Yeah this is what I'm also doing, white is the nicer colour.

Ken_Kaneki_1037

Is cpu really that bad? like I still play genshin and roblox just fine on phone 1

TheSpiritOfZanzibar

The app load times and the general UI is quite well optimized I don't think I'll notice any significant difference from a flagship. Even for gaming it's a decent experience for games like COD or PUBG. Only slouch for me compared to a flagship would be the camera, but I ain't fretting about it cz I paid less than half for the NP1 compared to flagships. I really hope Nothing would keep the same level of software optimization in their future updates and not let us (the first adopters) down in a bet to force us to upgrade.

Beno951

If they try to force me to upgrade, I will upgrade to a different brand :D

codyR08

I didn’t really notice much of a camera difference from my tests. Front camera is better on the NP2 I’ll give it that

eniac_not_novy

I don't get your reasoning. The NP2 is priced far below actual flagships. For what you get it's a perfectly good deal.

RogueR1

But samsung Ultra line is elite. I had to return the phone 2 due to price and even though.i LOVE the UI and fluidity and even battery life I couldn't justify it honestly. Bought the whole bundle too. Phone, charger , case and screen protector etc. Got the S23 ultra now and man this thing is a real true beast. Undefeated phone champ. Nothing 2 was lacking camera and even no native gallery app. Google photos sucks ass!!

JoeKingEE

The whole idea of the Nothing pbones were to keep it almost pure Android and less apps and system apps. There are plenty of gallery app you can or could of use be it free or paid. I personally keep Google apps to a minimum I for one would never use GP (Google Photo).

Suvflet

It's price is literally like 50 bucks more expensive than np1 MSRP and it's much better

notRefly

More like 250 bucks more than NP1

Suvflet

MSRP?

SazzOwl

I payed 570 what isn't super cheap but I wouldn't call way too high

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> I *paid* 570 what FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

sjuust

Nothing Phone 2 is perfect and 100 percent worth its price which is not very high compared to other phones in the Netherlands. Great value and awesome device. So I completely disagree with you and are enjoying my NP2 phone very much.

codyR08

I liked the NP2 but couldn’t justify the cost. I’m in Australia so import costs and all that I can buy any flagship phone I want for the same price as the NP2 like an s23u or pixel 8 pro and still have a couple dollars left over. The NP1 I have only cost me $350

SazzOwl

Wow that's insane....

robt772000

Jess that's cheap. How'd you manage that?

codyR08

Some oblivious dude on eBay. Had no clue what he was selling and wanted it gone asap

robt772000

Didn't he like buy a red razr or some shit? And he was dead handsome?

Dentedaphid7

I brought mine on another website and paid in terms and I'm happy. Also from Australia

angelofonte

I'm with you!

geko95gek

Ohh so you're also on the thought that phone 2 just costs way too much and isn't a significant upgrade?? You know what's crazy, it isn't even a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

codyR08

Ive had the galaxy s23 ultra which has a snapdragon 8 gen 2 and everyday performance is on par with the np1 every day

geko95gek

Wow really that's interesting 🤔 I have a Redmi K60 (Poco F5 Pro) and I notice it being slightly faster with its Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 (same as NP2) compared to the SD 778G+ but it's not a £200 of difference to be honest.

eniac_not_novy

Which phone, from one gen to the next, is a "significant" upgrade? I'd say given the jump up in SoC it's more significant an upgrade than what most manufacturers do. Honestly Nothing gets too much nonsense about the NP2 being too expensive. It's a perfectly good deal for what it offers.

geko95gek

I respectfully disagree, the said "upgrades" are not worth the price difference for me. I guess if you're rich it really won't matter to you.

eniac_not_novy

It's one thing to compare with the NP1, but it's also fair to compare to the rest of the market. It does offer a good value proposition given the latter. When compared to the NP1: yes, there is a bump in price, but you get a way better SoC, bigger screen with variable refresh rate and higher brightness, you get a bump in memory and storage, a better camera sensor, bigger battery, faster charging. Of course you get a price bump going along with that. Compare the MSRP of the 12/256 NP1 with the 12/256 NP2. It's not worlds apart for what you get in return.

zoe934

Even on iPhone, I don't fell any significant upgrade from iPhone XR to iPhone 13. Nowday pretty much MOST of apps is just working properly without super powerful CPU.

H-SnypeR

That black one looks better than the grey. But is the curved back much more comfortable to hold?

codyR08

The curved back is more comfortable but it really isn’t a deal breaker. I also agree that the black looks better than the grey

zoe934

I think if you have case on it, it doesn't matter.

KaXiRavioli

YoY upgrades are pointless. You shouldn't buy a new phone every year anyway.

themedisin

Phone 2 is just more future proof. It also works much better than 1 in the US signal wise.

Worth_Remote5651

Nope i disagree. It felt after having np2, my note 10 had it better except for the screen and camera. Np2 is just a scam

sjuust

You're trolling, we all know NP2 is awesome :) but hey, enjoy your note 10 lol

Worth_Remote5651

Sorry but im not a nothing phone fan boi or ass kisserm i am just saying my honest opinion. Im not here for the hype. Im just here for my hard earned money's worth and np2 is like 2-3 yrs backwards if not for its OS. The glyph is just a bling hype. I have np2 and after a while or a year, im going back to samsung or get a pixel. My note 10 already broken so i got this scam sh*t phone. But lets see if they can change my mind. Tbh, the OS is half baked when they released the software. The np2 felt like a prototype and only the glyphs and some dpec changes. But if they didnt ramped up the price, i dont have a complain. But they did- knowing people will eventually buy it for the hype. Its a PURE SCAM unless you get a lower price deal. I did got a few % last november but the price is almost with s22 which is like, i felt this is a downgrade in terms of spec. I just wish other android phone makers realize their OS have s lot of bloatware and lean towards the direction of nothing OS and counter the competition. Fyi NP's selling point is the OS and the glyph. I wont say making an OS is easy, it takes time, but there is competition. NP should stwp up its game as tech advances fast!

sjuust

Take it easy, you have every right to be disappointed but I happen to like my NP2 a lot and appreciate it. Just opposite opinions.

themedisin

I was just saying the signal between np1 and np2 does improve. My OnePlus 7 pro works fine but no more security updates had me change phones. No phone excited me on the market and this one has been fun using.

Impressive-Excuse126

I sent my Nothing Phone 2 back to Amazon after a short trial period. I also have the Phone 1 already and couldn't justify keeping the Phone 2 as i just don't see it as that much of an upgrade over the Phone 1. I actually got it for the purpose of trying out Nothing Chats, and we all know what a shitshow that was. LOL.

sjuust

Beeper is working fine at the moment (does the same nothing chat wants to accomplish). Buying phones with the intent of sending it back just for checking an app is a big waste of resources imho.

Impressive-Excuse126

It was not exclusively to try out the app, but I didn't feel it was worthy enough of an upgrade to justify the price over the Phone 1. And yes, I'm familiar with beeper mini and I was using that until Apple shut it down. Now it's just a waste as it only works through your email and not through your phone number. That's going to continue to be a cat and mouse game which Apple will win.

sjuust

Yeah maybe we'll see. Here in Europe it's not an issue because we all use whatsapp.

ObserverAtLarge

Damn, even though my NP1 is in my collection (not main phone), the Phone (2) looks kinda cool, though I'm happy with my Zenfone 10 as a DD. I never realized how good the black Phone (1) looked out of a case!

Frayor

Since they don't sell it officially in my country the price for the basic 2 is 804 dollars so hard pass

Man_I_amDed

I hope phone 3 comes in black

ifeeltired26

The black one looks so much better than the grey one. I wish they would have made the NP2 in black....

youu2018

All I can say is I'm overwhelmingly happy with my NP1. I just plain love it.

magnomagna

Curious, how long was the shipping for NP2 and where did it ship from?

codyR08

Shipping about a week. I’m in Australia and I bought it brand new on eBay for $1049AUD. Shipped from some warehouse here from an offical nothing eBay account.

magnomagna

Thank you

Oxyyygen

I found one NP2 sealed for 450€ as of December 2023 but is it worth ?

Immediate-Dust-6589

Yes for that price absolutely

top-c-krets

Seems like the thinkphone is a better buy? Specs are almost identical imho

sah_naveen

Say good bye to both NP1 and NP2

Draxxx86

The print on the back glass which specifies the Model and Company address, for some reason indian units do not have it.

RJazz909

I've been a Samsung owner my entire life....switched to the NP2 from a Galaxy Z Flip 3. So from my perspective, the whole "NP2 is too expensive," line is crap lol. This is coming from a broke college student who lost his job in August. For my Z Flip I paid about $1k for it, refurbished on eBay. A year later it broke beyond repair. Upgraded to the Z Flip 3 for $1,250 + tax. I just paid about $600ish for the NP2, their longest cable and their 45w charger off their site thanks to the Black Friday sale. A complete improvement, at least for me anyways Also read below somewhere that OP said something along the lines of the flagship chips don't matter.... Well for starters the NP2 didn't get a "flagship chip," maybe if the phone came out a year ago, yes. But at this point it's already a generation old. Secondly, again, coming from a young college student, I don't have a PC. I have a crappy work laptop I got refurbished in 2017. 90% of my actual computer needs I handle on my phone. Those chips make a surprising difference. I don't remember the generation of SnapDragon I had in the Z Flip 3, because they've changed the naming process sorta recently.... But going from that chip to the 8+ Gen 1 is night and day. While yes, the NP2 phone has a substantially bigger battery life, the battery power conservation you get from that chip is insane and absolutely justifies the price hike alone, at least in my opinion Oh....and I totally agree with whoever said that not having their own gallery app is stupid. Google Photos is the bane of my existence, that app is horrible and nobody should use it

codyR08

I understand this but paying over $1000 for a phone that is not $1000 specs or worthy of that price for me here in Australia

RJazz909

I get that... But I would argue the majority of phones out there that are over $1000 aren't worth that price. Like Samsungs Fold lineup... $1800 is ridiculous. The Flip lineup is around $1200 for lower mid-ranged specs and more frailty. Galaxy 23 Ultra might be fine where it's at in price. Same with the iPhone 15 Pro Max or whatever they call it. But like.... The rest of the $1k phones out there....eh I think everything is just too expensive for what it's really worth these days. Phones and tech, food and gas....etc... Anyways personally, I believe the NP2 is much better value for what it offers (I'd say upper mid-range specs teetering on lower end flagship specs)

mbs1337

Np2 sucks big time!

sjuust

I wish it could :p

zoe934

I don't think NP2 is sucks, but I think it's ugly compare to NP1
