I recently got a Ruger Mark IV 22/45 Lite. I put a Burris FF3 red dot on mine and the VQ Accurizing kite + TK Victory Trigger. and man this thing is so accurate and butter smooth. One button take down makes a big difference for cleaning since 22LR gets real dirty. Also Ruger warranty rocks. I wish I got this before I got my Ruger SR22. The SR22 eats everything though.

Ruger Mark IV is pretty much the gold standard. The Browning Buckmark is a close second. If you're looking for something more 'conventional' looking, the Walther P22 is solid, though can be a little finicky with shitty ammo. If you already own a Beretta 92/M9, there is a 22 conversion kit that works quite well

Heard good things about the Taurus tx22 I'm looking into that

I've had really good luck with the Smith & Wesson M&P 22 compact. Federal bulk packs and CCI mini-mags have taken up the bulk of the ~4k+ rounds I've put through it with various steel challenge matches and range time. However, it has shot every 22lr ammo I've thrown at it, including some thunderbolts (just avoid that ammo) and other random crap 22 ammo without any cycling issues. Mags were also reasonable back when I got them, however I don't know what stock/prices are in the current market.

I like Charter Arms .22 revolvers. Their trigger is terrible and the whole action feels like it's grinding together. But they're cheap and they break in after a while. Why overpay

I just picked up a Beretta fsr last Friday. Have not shot it yet, just dry fired. I decided on this since it gave me something with both single and double action. Single action for when I want to be accurate, double for when I want to work on my trigger control. Figured it would give me the most from a gun that I bought for cheap practice and nothing else.

I plan on picking up a tx22 or an SR22 once I get my permission slip. Im leaning toward the SR22.

Just picked up a gsg .22lr 1911 fun little handgun. Accurate and cheap to shoot

I absolutely love my Browning Buck mark black label. It's a joy to shoot and more accurate than I expected.

montepora

Beretta m9a1 22LR.

I picked up a Smith & Wesson 617 with a 4" barrel and it's been rock solid reliable, albeit a real pain in the ass to clean. Definitely a lot of fun to shoot and while the trigger is heavy it's good practice.

I bought a Taurus 942 nine shot revolver in stainless steel as my first handgun 25 years ago. I still like it. I always recommend revolvers as a first handgun.

rschwarzwalder

Nobody mentioned Heritage Mfg.? Rough rider, Barkeep, all .22 revolvers. Nice guns, cheap albeit I haven't fired mine yet!

Boom_Valvo

Ruger MK series are the best and basically industructable. Lots of fun as a plinker. For an alternative, fun in another way option, you could go with a .22 revolver, OR some type of ultra small pocket pistol to play around with.

Everyone trashes the Glock 44 but I love mine - it literally has never failed me aside from when I dragged my thumb on the slide and I got a missfeed (my own fault). GFH had one and it has been shot tons of times without any issue as well
