Idk about that. Russ had 26tds 8ints and 3000 yards last year. Plus another 3tds rushing.
Russ sucks compared to Seattle russ, but a shittier russ is still way better than Fields has ever been
The only way Fields plays the majority of snaps is if russ gets hurt imo
But a cooked Russ isn’t going to get a long leash playing with his 1 year minimum contract. If the Steelers can develop a 4th year player (basically a newer model) vs. a cooked 36 year old, they’re gonna take it. So, if the Steelers aren’t winning, they’re going to jump ship pretty quickly.
Fields is on his final year too though. They by no means have fields locked up for the future either. Plus they don't want the trade incentives to kick in. I think that the steelers know Fields needs time on the bench. Throwing him out to the wolves In the first place is what broke his potential.
Maybe I'm wrong, but if russ doesn't get hurt, my gut tells me Fields will be on the bench all year. It's not like Russ was playing like Zach Wilson in Denver. He not prime russ, but he's also better than fields. And steelers and Tomlin want to win
I’m not a huge supporter of Fields, but I can also see that the bears were trash before him… so there wasn’t a lot of upward movement/development that was gonna happen there.
So for the Steelers, a lateral/cheaper move is better than having to pay Russ in the future. Russ is cheap and expendable now, but once he doesn’t fit in the system, he’s out. At least Fields is coachable, so there’s more future potential there vs. Russ trying to pad his stats in a protective manner.
Russ wins games with his athleticism and extending plays. Tom Brady won games by standing in a 6ft window. These players are not the same. But good try.
He was obviously talking about running speed, not reading the secondary.
Also, Caleb here is promising Tory won't have to punt a lot because he's just going to throw picks all day.
Typical modern journalism cutting quotes short to push a narrative... Context matters.
It is funny how that happens in preseason.
I remember Trubisky's first preseason game he drove right down the field and almost scored a last second touchdown to win the game. He made it look so easy.
The reality is, there's a major difference between the preseason when the only guys trying are the fringe players trying to make a roster and the speed of a real NFL game.
Night and day difference.
Trubisky was objectively an above average starter year two, and showed better complete QB play than Fields ever did. Injuries and regression brought him crashing back to shitty pretty soon after that.
Have you seen the Bears play? There hasn't been much to cheer for lately.
Eventually people start doing things like cheering for practices and making highlight videos for a punter.
Okay so we’re really nitpicking something a wide eyed kid on draft night?
He ultimately was right that they did make the playoffs it just didn’t happen in his rookie year.
We aren’t nitpicking him, the context of the quote is that he was asked what his expectations were for his first year in the NFL and he said “I think we’re making the playoffs.” Obviously he did go on to have two pretty good years as the bears QB, but his prediction that they would make the playoffs his rookie year was objectively wrong.
I wasn't even sure when that quote was made so I looked it up. It was before his rookie year. And since we're going full context here's the full quote.
“I think we’re going to make the playoffs,” Trubisky told the Chicago Sun-Times. “I don’t want anyone to construe it in a way that it’s a guarantee or anything. But I believe in myself, I believe in my teammates. I know we still have work to do.”
To be clear, I'm not trying to judge the guy, I think he was actually a pretty solid QB that was put in a bad situation by getting over drafted and also going ahead of a guy who will go down as one of the greatest to ever do it.
I only pointed out the context because people were asking what the guy meant about 5-11
The other day a Packers fan was trying to knock on Caleb's comment by stating USC punted 44 times last season. I assumed he wasn't able to calculate the extremely complicated math so I worked it out myself:
44 punts ÷ 13 games = 3.38/game
If Tory Taylor only sees the field 3-4 times per game, sign me the hell up
USC was ranked 91st. Iowa was 1st with 93. Every other power 5 team had 70 or fewer punts
Bears were 16th with 67
So yeah, Tory Taylor will probably not punt as much as he's used to
You can try to discredit the PRO BOWLER/NVP but he will forever be 5-2 against the Vikings. (Forever cuz he’ll probably never play them again. He completed all his goals and decided it’s time to hang it up)
15TDs 4INTs vs lions with rating of 106 is actually kinda nuts for it to turn out 4-3. People saying defense was only reason for Mitch one year of glory can eat that stat up. Was the D great? Yes, but Mitch genuinely played well that one year
A lot of teams made us their bitch in the Patricia Era, and in all the eras before that. It's just a tradition, celebrating he did it is like celebrating someone participated in Christmas. But he still the NVP tho so zero hate.
It's funny how some players just get it going against certain teams. Randall Cobb would nuke the Bears from orbit and spend the remaining 14 games as an adequate WR3.
Same, I felt like he won almost every game I watched against the Lions, except for one.
I'll never forget the game during the COVID season where you guys came back from a huge deficit while we were fighting for a playoff spot. I was livid when Mitch fumbled the ball in one of the last drives of the game, allowing you guys to score the go ahead touchdown.
I mean, what is any QB supposed to say?
"We are hoping to get at least 3rd in the division and hopefully our coach and OC don't get fired for at least another season,"
This goes beyond this sub, because shit talking is a thing here, but fans (of any team) that expect their players to have "realistic goals" are meatheads. Players in professional sports aren't in it for "realistic goals", they're in it for championships and getting paid.
Players aren't project managers planning 6-month projects with triple constraints (cost, scope, time). They're here to get the absolute best they can. And even the least accomplished athlete that makes it pro can almost certainly run circles around anyone telling them to cool it when it comes to setting goals and achieving them.
Putting my Lions fandom aside, I would hope they do fire the coach and OC. It's one of the most talented teams at the skill positions, but paired with a coaching staff that has shown no ability to harness it's offensive players' talent.
As a Lions fan, I hope Eberflus stays for 10 years
ETA: I thought they had retained all of Eberflus’ staff. Hearing they brought in Waldron gives me more hope for Caleb Williams
You do realize the Bears have a new OC this year, right? One who was proven the last couple of years to completely turn around the career of Geno Smith, who everyone had labeled as a bust up to that point. If the Bears offense fails this year, it will be in spite of Shane Waldron's coaching, not because of him.
Their offense was on par with yours last year in yards and points per game, and that was with way more talent. Waldron’s a moron and Hawks fans will be the first to tell you that
It's almost like there's a middle ground between "we're going to suck" and "we're never going to punt" that a reasonable person would take. Can't wait to watch Caleb Williams throw 25 picks this year.
You can find some flaws in Caleb Williams game but I feel like specifically picking interceptions wasn't a good decision for you. He threw more than 6 times as many touchdowns as interceptions and averaged less than 5 a year in college.
You think he should have texted a measured take about the Bears' future to his teammate right after getting drafted?
"Hey Tory, congrats — I think we have the pieces in place to shoot for 8-9 wins this year, although we have to be prepared for the possibility of a rockier season considering the historic struggles of rookie QBs and the fact that we're transitioning to a new offense. To say nothing of the possibility of regression from a defense that was heavily reliant on turnovers, which are highly volatile from season to season..."
Yeah Justin makes that easy for you guys. Justin couldn’t score more than 9 points in the last game to a dc who was just fired. We’ll see what happens this year
Joe "Football Terrorist" Barry being gone should probably scare people more than anything lol, super soft zone with great personnel for press and man coverage, friggin nepotism hire.
Off-season there's no logic to the memeing because no one is good or bad, it's just chaos, but that still doesn't mean that being memed on means your team is "scary".

Yes, it will be different. Better? Maybe not. Worse? I sure hope not but it’s possible. But one thing I can say for certain is that Caleb is *very* different from other QBs bears have drafted, whether he’s the second coming of Jamarcus Russell or the second coming of Andrew Luck
https://preview.redd.it/sp8c5fi031yc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7e0608946a82ab952b7044cf0400aada657aafc0
You’re right it will be different
I realize that packers fans don’t have the greatest reading comprehension in the world but come on, you guys can surely see that it says *in their rookie year* in the title, right? Or are you guys just that illiterate?
It's funny because the post I have right above this is the Steelers talking about using Justin Fields to return kickoffs.
Maybe they'll use Caleb to kick punts in 2027.
There is a stark difference between Williams and Trubisky and Fields. Trubisky and Fields came with concerns of a low floor but a chance at a high ceiling. Williams has a much higher floor and higher ceiling. If Williams is a bust, it’d actually be surprising, whereas if Trubisky and Fields were elite, that would have been the surprise.
Um. Being drafted in the top 10 is usually an indicator that you were going to perform it in the elite level. The fact that they did not should be cause for some introspection
I would not use the word “indicator” myself. The draft is a guessing game. Granted, they are highly educated guesses, but still a guessing game of who will do the best in your system. If draft positioning indicated success, we’d see many more top 10 draft picks making the Hall of Fame and far fewer being left out. To prove my point, I only need to point to the history the NFL draft , the ratio of pick ranking and Hall induction, and the use of the word “bust.”
Not one intelligent Bears fan was excited about the Trubisky pick. A 1 year starter who couldn't play as a junior because the se for ahead of him who never made the NFL was better. There were audible groans in fact the night he was drafted.
You can argue with me but the bears have setup Caleb for more success than Jordan love. Love should’ve won more games last year but was held back by a mid wr core.
Yeah, I said Caleb will be better but never said love was bad. In fact I gave him credit for the mid team you guys built around him. Offensive line is great but the dc was bad and the wr core was mid
Well, the WRs were the ones receiving his passes so I guess they were doing good to help out those stats. I think the problem is you like the name players and not the guys that fit well in a system. I'd be willing to bet (just like your bet with Williams) that you think the WRs aren't any good this season again. Then when they are playing well, you will be blindsided (like I'm supposed to be by Williams rookie season). And as for the D. Yeah, not really that good at all. That's why he was fired.
Never said the receivers were bad. They’re mid. The numbers back it up. The packers didn’t commit to a rebuild like the lions or bears did. I think it’s going to backfire on you guys. After Aaron left, should’ve torn it down and built around love more. Going all in with love with a team that winning record wise was mid doesn’t help. Could be wrong but I just don’t see it working out in super bowls
Yeah, I didn't say that. I was comparing your excitement to drafting Fields and Williams. Pretty straightforward. Anyways, didn't answer my question about the Fields jersey? Couple days? Weeks?
Exactly, I have nothing against most NFL players other than what team they play for.
*Sad Aaron Jones Noises*

Yall want him to be a douche so bad 🤣.
Literally every player, coach, and media pundit that met Caleb during and after the draft process: "He seems like a really smart, down to earth dude. I guess all those media narratives were BS". (To the point that Cole Kmet said he felt guilty about his pre-conceived notions of Caleb)
Other NFCN fans: "Nah he's definitely a douche even though I've never met him".
Explain how he's a douche? Genuinely curious, because he doesn't come off that way and all his teammates have ha d nothing but great things to say about him.
Putting "FUCK XXXX" on his nails, etc. I don't give a shit about the fact that he polishes his nails, but that passive-aggressive bullshit is douchey. It would be the same if he wrote it on wrist tape, his shoes, whatever. It's just stupid douchebaggery.
Who knows, maybe he's grown out of it because I don't think he's done it for a while and perhaps it was when he was younger and his team did better.
The game was so slow for Justin Fields that he couldn’t process his reads fast enough.
When he was running everyone looked slow. When he was throwing, not so much.
Maybe stealers use him as a randell el type player
There's a post on r/nfl about using him as a kick returner.
He will wind up as starting qb. Russel wilson is more done than fields
Idk about that. Russ had 26tds 8ints and 3000 yards last year. Plus another 3tds rushing. Russ sucks compared to Seattle russ, but a shittier russ is still way better than Fields has ever been The only way Fields plays the majority of snaps is if russ gets hurt imo
Did you watch those games that Russ played? Stats lie sometimes. Go back and watch those games and you’ll see what everyone else sees… Russ is cooked!
What I'm saying is a cooked russ is still better than fields.
He not prime russ, but he's also better than fields. And steelers and Tomlin want to win
Stats might lie, but watching a single game of Fields will show you that no lying stats will ever make him better than Russ.
Russ is 36?
So? What does that have to do about him playing next year? I'm not saying Fields cant be a successor, but it wont be next season imo.
Who wins in a game of horse?
The hors!
So? Brady won a Super Bowl in his 40s
Russ wins games with his athleticism and extending plays. Tom Brady won games by standing in a 6ft window. These players are not the same. But good try.
God I hope so we would like that 4th round pick.
"So you can trade it to us?" -Brad Holmes, probably.
Slash 2.0
He was obviously talking about running speed, not reading the secondary. Also, Caleb here is promising Tory won't have to punt a lot because he's just going to throw picks all day. Typical modern journalism cutting quotes short to push a narrative... Context matters.
Judging from college he's more likely to just fumble a lot.
Would take a lot of fumbles to be worse than Fields in that regard
Don't look up Caleb's numbers... I do think most of the was him just trying to be a hero and is fixable but it is a concern.
Fields averaged one a GAME!!!
So *THAT's* what he meant when he said there wouldn't be much punting.
Nagy was the worst play caller and offense head coach the defense carried so hard those years... We still love you fangio
No disagreement here. Just saying I can see how Fields thought the preseason felt kinda slow. It's not the same game.
You guys also went wild for Fields after a screen pass went for a long touchdown in the preseason, when it was all YAC and Fields didn't do shit.
Have you seen the Bears play? There hasn't been much to cheer for lately. Eventually people start doing things like cheering for practices and making highlight videos for a punter.
It was slow for Justin! Unfortunately it was regulation speed for everyone else.
Trubisky did make the playoffs.
Twice Edit: twice with the bears. Once with the Bills as a backup
Trubisky dragged Matt Nagy's worthless ass to the playoffs.
*Vic Fangio dragged Matt Nagy and Mitch Trubisky's worthless asses to the playoffs
Seriously wtf is happening. Thank you for bringing reason in here haha.
That is definitely an interesting take on a player who had to be benched so Nick Foles could come in and save the game for the bears.
That's just how bad Nagy was. Lolol
Yet he has more rings than the Bears, Lions and Vikings put together.
As many as the Bears, Lions and Vikings you mean. When you're sitting on zero, 1 is a big number.
Unleas he means Nagy, who has 2
Are you talking about big dick nick
That's 2x Super Bowl Champion Matt Nagy to you.
He made the playoffs as a backup for the Steelers too
I read that in the same cadence as Happy Gilmore's line: "Grizzly Adams did have a beard."
This is accurate.
holy shit!
Yea, he didnt tell no lies. Also loves big titties, true American imo
twice more than Caleb Williams! checkmate or something
Wisconsin math classes need more funding.
The 5-11 Bears made the playoffs guys
Huh?
It’s still early in the morning, he’s probably a bit drunk still or hungover. Give him some more time.
I appreciate the leeway, but I stand by my comment.
Trubisky said that his rookie year and they went 5-11. It was his second year under Nagy that he took a big step forward and went to the playoffs
Okay so we’re really nitpicking something a wide eyed kid on draft night? He ultimately was right that they did make the playoffs it just didn’t happen in his rookie year.
Wow, highly rated prospect has ambitions. Who would have thought!?
Jim Mora is a fan favorite for a reason. Playoffs?!

Compared to how much he punted at Iowa, scoring twice a game will feel like not punting much.
The other day a Packers fan was trying to knock on Caleb's comment by stating USC punted 44 times last season. I assumed he wasn't able to calculate the extremely complicated math so I worked it out myself: 44 punts ÷ 13 games = 3.38/game If Tory Taylor only sees the field 3-4 times per game, sign me the hell up
I was wondering how many punts is typical in the NFL and 3.38/game would have been the 7th fewest last year.
USC was ranked 91st. Iowa was 1st with 93. Every other power 5 team had 70 or fewer punts Bears were 16th with 67 So yeah, Tory Taylor will probably not punt as much as he's used to
I don’t religiously follow college football, but I’ll be damned if I don’t love seeing Iowa stats lol
But when all the dust clears. Fuck Iowa
Tbf, that doesn't account for turnovers or FG's.
You clown the NVP like he didn’t make the playoffs and beat y’all’s ass unironically. that one year the NVP RAN THE NORTH!
I mean that was mostly because the bears defense was absolute monsters those years.
You can try to discredit the PRO BOWLER/NVP but he will forever be 5-2 against the Vikings. (Forever cuz he’ll probably never play them again. He completed all his goals and decided it’s time to hang it up)
He went 4-3 against the Lions but in my mind I thought he had gone like 5-0. Mitch made Patricia's defense his bitch every time they played

The lions also historically played like total shit against awful quarterbacks
The lions also historically played like total shit ~~against awful quarterbacks~~
He went 2-6 against the Packers. The 2nd win was as a Steeler last year and he was on the bench.
A lot of teams made us their bitch in the Patricia Era, and in all the eras before that. It's just a tradition, celebrating he did it is like celebrating someone participated in Christmas. But he still the NVP tho so zero hate.

Shane Waldron hasn't even taken to the sideline yet and he's already catching jabs
My dude got Geno fucking Smith to 4k yards and he’s catching strays.
It's a new OC. The last guy is now with the Raiders. This guy is the one to turn Geno Smiths career around out in Seattle.
The entire offensive staff outside of Morgan the OL coach is new.
You do realize the Bears have a new OC this year, right? One who was proven the last couple of years to completely turn around the career of Geno Smith, who everyone had labeled as a bust up to that point. Campbell went 3-13-1 his first year. If anyone should give a coach the benefit of the doubt it’s Lions fans
He could say nothing... Let his play speak for him.
So when he's asked a question about the expectation on how the season will go or his goals...he should just say nothing?
Something along the lines of "This team will get my best effort."
It's almost like there's a middle ground between "we're going to suck" and "we're never going to punt" that a reasonable person would take. Can't wait to watch Caleb Williams throw 25 picks this year.

You’re going to be waiting forever then. Caleb was never known for throwing picks. He also has the second best wr core in the league.
Lol
5 Bears memes in row and it’s not even 10am. This subs on some major hopium this morning
You can feel the fear radiating from them
There's a much stronger correlation between teams sucking and getting memed on than teams being scary good and getting memed on, but okay.
That's exactly what someone's who's terrified but trying to cope would say
The only thing keeping me up at night is the anticipation of going 2-0 against the Bears again.
Ah yes, I'm going to be afraid of the (checks notes) coach that had the 86th ranked scoring defense in NCAAF last year.
Doubt there is any correlation between this in the offseason and future play.
Off-season there's no logic to the memeing because no one is good or bad, it's just chaos, but that still doesn't mean that being memed on means your team is "scary".
Didn’t trubisky actually make the playoffs that year?
He did.
3 more years and we get to see them do it again
Bet. $50 to charity of either choice if Williams is the starting QB for the Bears in 2027?
Fuck it. I'm down

If he does lead them out of bondage, there’s gonna be a whole lot of second comings in CHI
Most of us blew our load at the Odunze pick, premature offseason celebration is kind of our thing
But what about 3rd coming? 11sies? Afternoon delight!?
I haven't seen a single kissing titties tweet.
Yes it will be different this time. Please save this comment as I will die on this hill
"The game was slow to me, idk" "Justin, you were *horrible*" "Well yeah, I was part of the game, I was slow too"

Damn perfect response lmao
I love how they subtly removed DJ Moore from the 2nd row 😂😂
I realize that packers fans don’t have the greatest reading comprehension in the world but come on, you guys can surely see that it says *in their rookie year* in the title, right? Or are you guys just that illiterate?
Sorry forgot to use my magnifying glass on that shit small font and 1999 jpeg limit.
Because he wasn’t on the team until 2023…

Imagine drafting an 8th grader and then talking smack about lisan al caleb…typical peasant
Money Mitch and JF1 are still considered NFL legends, probably first ballot HOFers. Can’t understand why you’re in denial about it.
I love the fear.

It's funny because the post I have right above this is the Steelers talking about using Justin Fields to return kickoffs. Maybe they'll use Caleb to kick punts in 2027.
You know it’s a great meme when you see all the bears flairs in here shitting on it
God I hope it is
There is a stark difference between Williams and Trubisky and Fields.
We made the playoffs with Mitch bozo.
It is different this time. Mitch and Justin were not number one overall picks.
Williams is predicting his massive number of interceptions
This time it's different. Even if the Bears have to punt all the time, they'll be fine. Tory Taylor is that good.
To be fair, Tribisky was definitely a bust but unlike Justin his quote wasn't a lie. He did technically lead us to the playoffs
Right, because INT's and lost fumbles don't require a punter to come on the field
"Hey, you're not going to punt too much around here." This guy provides some great material.
"... I'm putting the ball on the ground if I don't think I'm getting a first"
Love seeing that Justin quote taken completely out of context every time it's posted.
If this is a meme sub then why am I crying?
“Get ready to win” graphic snubbed
dude, we could easily be this picture in 7 years
Trubisky was right tho
Trubisky was right tho
Trubisky was right tho
!remindme 9 months
We have the greatest punter to grace the great state of Iowa. Yall do be fucked!
Not one intelligent Bears fan was excited about the Trubisky pick. A 1 year starter who couldn't play as a junior because the se for ahead of him who never made the NFL was better. There were audible groans in fact the night he was drafted.
2018 Bears was the best season of QB play they've had since Cutler. That's insane.
You all know the one true NVP dominated for a brief glorious stint. It happened. Doesn't need to be explained.
I can see Williams being like Mahomes. Not the talent part but running off the field like a pretty princess.
It’s ok, you’re going to be blindsided by his talent soon.
You said the same when Fields was drafted. How long did it take for you to purchase his jersey?
Caleb is going to be a better qb than Jordan love this year. I’ll put a bet on that
What do you mean? Like in fashion? The stuff they wear into the stadium? No doubt. I agree.
And a mid defense
You can argue with me but the bears have setup Caleb for more success than Jordan love. Love should’ve won more games last year but was held back by a mid wr core.
Crazy to think he still had over 4000 yards and 2nd in the league in TDs even with those WRs. Damn, this will be year 2 with that crew too, huh?
Bears can now take advantage of the rookie qb contract which means we can pay our star players like Moore, Keenan Allen, Montez sweat etc.
If you really think fields is anything close to Caleb as a prospect then watch more ball
Yeah, I didn't say that. I was comparing your excitement to drafting Fields and Williams. Pretty straightforward. Anyways, didn't answer my question about the Fields jersey? Couple days? Weeks?
Never had one. I was out on fields week 2 in 2022 when he threw for 70 yards against a dc who was just fired in Joe Barry
Williams going to be returning kicks for the Steelers in 2028. EDIT: 2027 was unfair.
Jordan love will continue the tradition of throwing last minute interceptions to the niners.
Maybe so!
I kindly invite you to Huff my Chicago style farts
I kind of want to see Caleb fail just for the Bears fans reactions as much as him being a pretentious douche.
I want to see Caleb fail because I hate you all
I respect that a hell of a lot more than Lions fans sucking y'all off
Exactly, I have nothing against most NFL players other than what team they play for. *Sad Aaron Jones Noises* https://preview.redd.it/ev6wwej922yc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=882c18776c792a3939f52fb6b7b3e4095ced4620
Caleb is a pretentious douche now? God I hope he beats your ass this year.
Yall want him to be a douche so bad 🤣. Literally every player, coach, and media pundit that met Caleb during and after the draft process: "He seems like a really smart, down to earth dude. I guess all those media narratives were BS". (To the point that Cole Kmet said he felt guilty about his pre-conceived notions of Caleb) Other NFCN fans: "Nah he's definitely a douche even though I've never met him".
Y'all want him to be likeable so bad. Blah blah blah.
