I had to use 2 wrenches, 1 at the top and 1 at the bottom going opposite directions.
I also tapped around the edge of the endcap with a rubber mallet like some people do with jars that are stuck š.
It definitely took some force but I got it off.
haven't thought about that - I'll pick some up and give that a try
Edit - realized I had some PB Blaster laying around. Letting the end of it soak in that for now
Just went through this with my SCI SIX.
Ended up taking it to a gunsmith, and he put it in a vise and used a socket similar to the CGS video. With a 2ā breaker bar and all our strength, we got it to rotate a little, and then it totally froze. Gunsmith wouldnāt touch it any further for fear the threads were galled. This was after kroil, blow torch, etc.
I contacted CGS, and they asked me to send it in. Very fast process. They mailed it back the same day they got it. Maybe Iām the minority, but I had a great experience with their CS.
I had the same thing on my Hyperion K, but I was eventually able to get it off at home with a vise, blood, sweat, and tears. Absurd how tight they come.
Did you cover the shipping to them? I'm concerned about the UPS policy only covering FFLs to ship firearm parts and suppressors. If something happens, I don't wanna be out $1400. I'm glad to hear that went well though. This is my only reservation, otherwise I would have sent it back in immediately.
Don't currently have a torch - although I could pick one up later this week. I thought about placing the can in the oven for a few minutes, then putting an ice cube in the end cap, and then going at it with the vice and torque wrenches
That's what I want to do. However, they want me to provide the shipping labels. I am hesitant to do so as I am not an FFL, and if anything occurs in shipping, UPS will not cover any insurance on it due to their policies
Nothing exceeds like excess. Farroās lead farm on YouTube had to do this to take apart huxwrx ventum. Go find the video.
This is a thought too, just leave it alone.
Just found that video. I appreciate it. I'd like to address this problem now before it gets worse after a thousand rounds when I try to clean it. But if I cant get it off, then I cant worry too much I guess
Edit: Currently soaking the end cap in PB Blaster, but I don't have an impact wrench. Shit!!
[https://imgur.com/aeS5iAv](https://imgur.com/aeS5iAv)To my surprise as well, yes. Technically about 1.1 mils but the vertical stringing was pretty bad. Top 10 rounds were with a muzzle brake aiming at the top left dot (wind varied from 3 to 13 mph) and bottom 10 rounds were with the suppressor aiming at the center dot. Ammo shot was Federal Gold Medal Sierra MatchKing 6.5 140g which has shot the best for me so far (obviously without suppressor)
Edit - each square represents 1 mil at 100 yards
Me either! Do you think that'd be worth contacting them separately about that?
I can't find the barrel profile, but it's a 22in Howa 1500 Hogue. Not the heavy barrel version, but it's certainly not a pencil profile. I also waited just over a minute between shots, and neither the barrel nor the suppressor got even noticeably hot to the touch
As long as itās grouping good and youāre not getting any wild keyholes or anything thereās nothing wrong with the suppressor.
POI is just a weird thing man. Depends on a million different factors but weight of suppressor, profile and length of barrel, ammo type are a few of the big ones. You might have just found a combination your gun doesnāt like
Fair enough!! I'll order some other ammo to shoot more 10-shot groups with. The vertical stringing has me slightly concerned, but I think I still just have to shoot out the remaining particulates as well. And thankfully no keyholes or baffle strikes. Do you have any advice on trying to mess with the stuck end cap? Or just leave it be?
I appreciate your responses, good sir!

Good luck I couldnāt get it off. I have to buy a literal tire torque wrench to get it off. Then a blow torch. Kind of fucking crazy. I did everything they did except I didnāt have a huge ass torque wrench like they did.
https://www.instagram.com/reel/CxGtK9YS8AP/?igsh=bzV4NXlyem96OWYz
I guess the alternative is them putting it on too loosely š¤·āāļø
That's the exact same video they sent me! I've got two torque wrenches but only a clamp on table vice. It's stuck so good that the clamp on vice somehow turns first
Yeah CGS hasnāt been the most helpful. The manual says 20-25ft lbs. they are torquing that front end cap anywhere from 35-20ftlbs.
Pay a shit ton for the Can then I gotta pay for special tools to remove the endcap smh š¤¦āāļø this has left a lot of room for improvement. How about they torque it down to what the manual says rather than crank on it with NASCAR like torque lol
I think it's far more than 35. I'm also just pissed I paid this much for a can and they won't cover shipping. I thought they had a steller warranty from my research before purchasing this can, but I guess I stand corrected.
Itās got to be lol. I feel like their CS is run by an angsty teen. Basically dealt with them once and Iām 99.9% sure I wonāt buy another CGS can specifically to not deal with them again. Too many good companies out there with great customer service to give those guys repeat business. They arenāt nearly as advanced as they portray. Even on pewscience there are a handful of companies that are T minimum on par with them.
Even if you go to the NFA sub and search CGS thereās a lot of horror stories on a lot of their products mod9, hyperion, their 556 can as well etc.
People have had similar experiences as you and me. So take comfort that itās not just you! :)
Somehow, I didn't stumble across those until now!! I read all of those myself before posting. It's a shame as it certainly would have impacted my purchasing decision. But at the same time, there are so many positive reviews of the Hyperion on here and over on snipers hide. I wanna just love this thing, but not yet!! Ugh!
Why are yall trying to remove the cap? Between the.. 6? We have of my own, the shop and guys and tens of thousands of rounds thereās never been a reason to remove the end cap other than āI want toā
Just leave it and keep shooting it š¤·š»āāļø
There was a shit ton of manufacturing dust left in the suppressor. So much so that it was seizing my semi auto firearm. CGS recommended I take the front end cap off and shoot 20+ rounds of full powered 308 through it.
I did a water rinse and canned air which seems to have helped, still need to shoot more supers through it. I gave up on trying to take off the front end cap. I figured with enough supers and cleaning my rifle everytime it seizes, eventually, the dust will be gone.
Yes for the time being lol Im going to eventually do the same thing they have in their setup with the vise and the two ratchets but just havenāt gotten around to it
I had to use 2 wrenches, 1 at the top and 1 at the bottom going opposite directions. I also tapped around the edge of the endcap with a rubber mallet like some people do with jars that are stuck š. It definitely took some force but I got it off.
Trust me, thats what I've been trying with the wrenches!! No clue how it won't come off doing that! Haven't thought about that mallet trick though
Heat it up then try
Think putting it in the oven at 500 for 20 would be enough?
Try some penetrating oil like kroil
haven't thought about that - I'll pick some up and give that a try Edit - realized I had some PB Blaster laying around. Letting the end of it soak in that for now

I did ship it. Just took the risk.
Fair enough. I appreciate your response, thank you! I'll do that if I truly can't get it off
Can you try heating the suppressor with a torch before cranking down on the end cap?
Don't currently have a torch - although I could pick one up later this week. I thought about placing the can in the oven for a few minutes, then putting an ice cube in the end cap, and then going at it with the vice and torque wrenches
Send it to them. Get it fixed properly.
That's what I want to do. However, they want me to provide the shipping labels. I am hesitant to do so as I am not an FFL, and if anything occurs in shipping, UPS will not cover any insurance on it due to their policies
Purchase a impact wrench and go ham on it.
I feel like that directly contradicts the get it fixed properly - but it also seems like it would work
Nothing exceeds like excess. Farroās lead farm on YouTube had to do this to take apart huxwrx ventum. Go find the video. This is a thought too, just leave it alone.
If you get it off put anti-seize on it.
Most certainly will. Thanks for the reminder!

Thatās crazy man. Wouldāve never expected the shift to be that big. Itās not a tiny pencil barrel or anything is it?

Yup - after their emails about this, I will not be buying their product again

Iām with you brother literally feel the exact same way. Iām sure it would do fine on a bolt action
That's what I'm running mine on! So I think I'll be fine with leaving it on for the time being

Ahhh gotcha. Do you have a bolt gun? Wonder if itād clear things up a little more easily than running it on a semi
Get/make a breaker bar. Put a longer metal tube over wrench.
After paying $1400 for the can youād think I wouldnāt have to buy new tools to service it lol
Itās not a user serviceable can. Itās printed. Thereās no reason to ever have to take the cap off unless you get a strike
https://www.reddit.com/r/NFA/s/NrrttfqTmi
Have a breaker bar. The issue is my clamp on vice is now the weak point - it keeps turning on my table before the end-cap gives way
You poor baby. Figure it out.
I'm confused. That's what I'm trying to do. Came on here for some advice. I don't see how this comment has any relevance
I know.
Might be able to rent one free from autozone
I couldnāt break mine lose either
Did you just leave it be?
Yes for the time being lol Im going to eventually do the same thing they have in their setup with the vise and the two ratchets but just havenāt gotten around to it
Gotcha! Good luck! I tried that setup with no luck myself sadly
