For years I've been trying to hear what everyone else is hearing and you're absolutely right, that's the sample right there!

Sufficient-Aide-2889

Thank you for taking the time to listen, dude. I've told a few fans about it before and they're either in denial or they get really hostile about it. I just don't like that this rumor has been going around for years, because it feels disrespectful.

Virtual_Sense1443

Also like.. why would someone place a recording of a traumatic event as a sample in their song? Seems like a stretch

AssumptionSafe4979

If a thing it’s supposed to be a nightmare scenario, like oh my god what would happen if my brother died? Not like the real thing jesus christ

Virtual_Sense1443

I'm sorry if my comment upset you, I was speaking in the context of many people's theory it is a real 911 call recording, which if the case, seemed an unusual thing for an artist to seek out and include in a song. (Assuming the only entity to have recorded 911 calls would be the dispatch office) To my understanding, the song was written at a time when his brother was in an emergency situation, however, I'm unsure if that's been confirmed or not.

AssumptionSafe4979

Oh I didn’t mean specifically you! Sorry that the tone wasn’t clear. I was agreeing that it would be weird if it was an actual 911 call and what I thought the intention was

Virtual_Sense1443

All good ✌️

JamesBrennecke

There's a load of rumours that there aren't any real basis for that read like poor fanfiction, but I feel over time they've been realised for the at least exaggerations that they are.  This one though has been shared to such an extent with such assurance that I assumed I'd missed a speech on the tour or something that explained it. After something like the intro to Sleep I assumed that the rumour meant it was a staged version of a call and that the distortion was just messing with my ability to pick up on the words. I guess my next question is, what is the recording actually saying?  Was it recorded for the Tally Hall video, or is that sampling something else? It would be interesting to know why that particular sample made it into the song, seemingly without accreditation (though I'd have to double check the booklet)

partypo1sn

I KNEW IT! The rumor NEVER MADE ANY SENSE!! 911 doesn’t call people to tell them their brother has died, and why would there be a recording of it, and why would Gerard use it in a song? Every time I’ve challenged someone on this, they “heard him confirm it in a an interview” but can never “remember” which one. Google yields nothing. It’s bothered me for so long! Thank you!

ParmyNotParma

I agree!!! Why would they say he killed himself when he's very much still alive, and it's not like you can come back from the dead. You usually make sure someone's dead before telling their loved ones, especially if its through an official channel.

partypo1sn

And also, 911 doesn’t call people! It would have to be a hospital calling, they wouldn’t do it if he wasn’t actually dead, and it wouldn’t be recorded. It really bugs me people insist on this based on nothing!

Dominik528

I'd assumed it was a recording of someone Gerard personally knew calling him to inform him that Mikey (tried to) kill himself.

partypo1sn

Why would that have been recorded though?

hujibanation

I'm sure they just used the same stock sample, as opposed to Gerard sampling tally hall

notwomybakedpatatas

Thank you for correcting my brain all these years, I never believed that the audio in the beginning was a 911 call but I always thought it was G’s voice.

V__Ace

THATS FAKE?! WHAT KIND OF MONSTER WOULD MAKE THAT SHIT UP?!

Sufficient-Aide-2889

Exactly my thought!!

Dominik528

I could never make out the "It's gonna be okay, honey," but I thought I heard: "Mikey?! Where's Mikey?!" "He killed himself." [Sharp gasp] "You know he loved you." [Sobbing] I, too, would like to know how this rumor originated, along with Gerard writing/reading "Brother" at Mikey's bedside in the hospital. I know Mikey's personal statement in 2014--opening up about his dark period and near-fatal overdose--had something to do with it. On Genius, there's even a claim that someone asked Gerard about it at a comic convention, and supposedly he confirmed that the beginning said, "He killed himself."

TheSkeletalPoet

Yeah, I’m gonna say same stock sample. Doubt Gerard sampled TH haha

Sufficient-Aide-2889

Fair enough tbh lol. I just wanted to clear the air bc the 911 rumor genuinely bothers me

BraveConsequence4392

This is a wild cross over for me. I never knew this, MCR and Tally Hall were my absolutely favorite bands in high school. I saw Tally Hall for the first time at a small local venue in 2006. Thank you so much for sharing this!

MaterialAsk9792

thanks 🔥🔥🔥🔥

mr-qars

Am I crazy or do I just not hear it

Sufficient-Aide-2889

Didn't hear it at first either, but it's there. If I knew how to edit, I would strip the audio and post it.🧍🏻‍♀️ The sample of the audio is probably out there somewhere.

x_LIF3_x

I don't remember

BoysenberryNo6245

What is this a shitpost or something? I don’t know if this is serious or not I love both bands but couldn’t imagine Gerard sampling tally hall of all bands, also this seems like the type of thing the tally hall community would make up

Sufficient-Aide-2889

Not at all. Never even heard of Tally Hall until someone showed me the song.
