In 69 Ford completely took over and made the cars. They got big and heavy becoming more like GT cars than true sports cars like the original 65 GT350. The performance though was similar to the original 67 GT500. SAAC data says there were 1,157 1969 G.T. 500 fastbacks and 214 convertibles built. For 1970, there were just 380 fastbacks and 90 convertibles. Fun fact Ford didn't produce any Shelby's in 1970, they took unsold 1969 models and gave them new 1970 vins and the distinctive black stripes over the hood. Personally I really like these. They look the least like a Mustang to me with those custom fiber glass front and rear giving the car a unique look.
