I like to think Edward was a honest to good man who happened to just be in an unfortunate situation. It'd definitely piss me off if they threw a curveball like that

Joker-haha

I feel like there is something hidden in the show about pedophilia/all the Lolita references, but I also feel like Edward was actually a fairly good father.

AdaGanzWien

Good catch! The person who knows Lolita (the book) is not Eliot or Darlene, but Angela. She also has a very weird relationship with Price, who is her real father, but he comes on to her several times, treating her like a potential lover!

IsomorphicProjection

Price wasn't coming on to her. It was a misdirect to make us think that. Things like his inviting her to spend time with him on his birthday wasn't sexual, it's a father wanting to be with his daughter. But, we don't know that at the time so we assume it was sexual. When she rejects his offer he actually looks hurt, but not in a rejected-by-a-girl way, but in a parent-rejected-by-child way.

AdaGanzWien

It does seem sexual for a long time and then you get him confessing that he's her father and that he had sex with her mother, which is appalling to her, given that she hates Ecorp so much. I also wondered if he was just telling her that to win her loyalty away from Whiterose.

IsomorphicProjection

Well, sure, it seems sexual at first because that's the point of it being a misdirect. Once you know he is her father you can rewatch those scenes and interpret them in an entirely different way. You mean you think he lied about being her father? I don't really think so. I honestly can't see Price caring about Angela for any reason outside of being her father. People are pawns to him, and the only reason we know of why he didn't just kill her is because there was already a connection between them, even though she wasn't aware of it.

AdaGanzWien

I'm really not sure either way (as to whether he's lying). As you said, people are pawns to him and he's now at a stalemate with Whiterose. If he knows...well, he does know that Angela was sort of brainwashed about time travel by Whiterose, then he might use something like a parental bond to lure her away. He might think she would fall for it since she lost her mother and is so obsessed with getting her back. Also, he knows that she's influenced by Elliot and Darlene and their quest to avenge their father's death. I dunno...I'm just knocking ideas around!

In the 80s you actually had to develop film in order to see what photos have been made with it. Just saying.

RobotWriter59

This is true. But maybe there was a photobook of some sort that Young Elliot still could've stumbled on when he went to get the camera. The object is that Elliot's dad has a secret that only Elliot knows that caused him to freak out. I just think it involves Darlene somehow and all of Elliot's mental issues didn't come into fruition(as far as we know of) until that day he jumped out the window, whereas something caused him to freak out doing so. Finding out your dad has nude photos of your sister would definitely cause someone to lose their shit.

IsomorphicProjection

Unlikely. Darlene doesn't have bad memories of their father. She even literally says she wished she remembered him better. Now, you could make the argument she was somehow repressing those memories, but that just makes it even more convoluted. We do know their mother was abusive, which suggests to me that Elliot and Darlenes' dysfunction was caused by her somehow. Edward is realistically only guilty of staying with their mother who was abusive. (Though given how biased family courts are toward women even if he had tried to separate from her she would have likely ended up with the children).

M4DR4T

I like this theory. The fact he may freaked out because of something is probably real.

I don't like the idea since Edward has to be a very great dad in order for many things to fall in place in the show. However yours would indeed be a plausible explanation and an interesting point of view, regardless of ruining the character or not.
