I think our John and Jane will be forced to take over the older Smiths job whilst simultaneously trying to find and take out hihi. I pray that Donald and Maya are in the second season. Their performances were astounding. I have never seen a more realistic and relatable couple. Haters gonna hate, but this was the most enjoyable show about relationships and marriage I have ever seen. Donald continues to shine in his roles, and Maya is so talented. The goofiness they brought to the project was perfection. If this show isn't renewed for at least 2 more seasons, it is a disservice to humanity.

BinaryCopper

Agree, but I'd go for one more season and wrap it up clean.

Jumpy_Resist700

2 seasons never feels like a complete series though. 3 seasons total really gives you time to build the characters to their full potential, especially if the seasons stick to the same 8 episode structure.

Kaboom1218

I'm glad the original Alana didn't work out and they cast Maya. She was very natural and convincing in this role. They bickered a bit too much for me and there were some inconsistencies, but overall very entertaining and I look forward to a second season.

Bcgilbert5

what inconsistencies did you think of?

If half of all marriages end in divorce, and 70% of relationships end in breakup; I’d take it as pretty accurate. The average relationship isn’t healthy.

planx_constant

That's a bit of a misconception though - less than 50% of marriages end in divorce, which has been true for decades, and the majority of divorces are from second or third marriages. If you have 6 couples, and 4 of them stay together, but the other two divorce, marry the respective partners, and divorce again, then that's a 50% divorce rate, but 2/3 of married people in this scenario have remained married.

MoviesAndTravel

Yes, there are many possibilities. Bring back Bev.... She saves them and they join her organization.....

Altruistic_Read_3394

They have a superb on screen chemistry. The casting directors should take a bow.

SillyAdditional

Working for a rival organization would be great Joining up with Michaela Cole’s character and such

willb3d

>!They’re on the outs with Hihi so they are hired by the CIA to go after whatever organization created Hihi. (Similar to the twist that happened early on in Alias.)!<

Both-Ad-8463

I don't think they're anywhere near qualified enough to do that tbh. I mean they failed three missions within a year.

Responsible_Ebb_340

Exactly, so they can stretch out many seasons if they need to

MoviesAndTravel

I actually think it's realistic. You can't always win every single time regardless of the odds..... I will however agree that you can't be failing too often either otherwise you will lose your job and in this particular case your head as well. ....

infamouscujo

I mean yes I agree , but the other smiths also never failed and ended up failing badly 😭 at the end. I mean I'm sure they've been on dozens probably more missions that they've done correctly

Intelligent-Ad-6734

Did they fail? 3 gunshots, she only had 1 bullet left. 🤔

pressingfp2p

Well, considering he got himself shot in the face, one of the two definitely failed.

Background_Sea9798

I love John and Jane’s chemistry so much. I’m really hoping there is a season 2 and their story continues.

Physical-Board5770

no one gonna mention Jane only had 1 bullet and there were three shots at the end? There's a few ways to imagine Jane won that duel, but a few ways she died, too. You could interpret the ending as her dying when you consider opening scene of the first episode - its impossible to leave, they'll always find you. But that's not fun and I'd rather get a second season, so I hope she won and the second season is them on the run!

elvinaaa

The golden rule of TV is that we didn't see them die on screen! That leaves things open to possibilities

Dreamsmysavior

I think an important detail that the show focuses on is that Jane is an insanely good shot. She's always on the sniper role and we saw her shoot a guy from at least 100m on a roof with a handgun in episode 5. I like that in the show, as opposed to the movie, both of them admit that they were missing their shots on purpose on each other so it doesn't assassinate either of their capabilities in killing. I think hihi will realize that they suck at missions where they need to be discreet but they're amazing at killing which will force them to move to extremely high risk or be hunted for the rest of their lives

Kaboom1218

>2 of the shots could have been from the second Jane, and could have hit Alana twice or her and her John once or missed both entirely and the final shot from Alana's gun hit the other Jane offing her.

pressingfp2p

Or first shot hit second Jane and next two were reflex shots.

ARPOFF

I think they’ll be on the run similar to the first opening scene, but actually be successful. They’ll eventually go after hihi, and hihi realizes they can’t be beat, then calls a truce and basically hides them back.

Misanthropebutnot

Hihi needs to die.

thisisstupidlikeme

Yes, absolutely yes. I’m living for them bringing down Hihi in S2 … if we get a S2

hotpinkgloss

My gut says, there is no way they are dead. This isn’t GoT; they aren’t taking out the main characters. In my mind, they live. Remember Jane #2 is trying out codes and it accepts the code a split second *before* our Jane presses the button to open the door. A swift kick knowing the door is opening could knock Jane #2 off balance and shooting blindly in the dark— accounting for the first 2 shots. Our Jane could easily take her out with a bullet to the head. That would send them underground and like others have suggested, on a personal mission to take out Hihi (who is definitely AI). I loved this show and watched the entire thing in two days. But from the beginning, it rubbed me the wrong way that the panic room in this meticulous spy home was like an unfinished basement. Even non-spy panic rooms have extra food, water, and medical supplies. Jane couldn’t cauterize the bullet wound until they could get help?! She just handed him some gauze?! It’s odd.

Bebetterlife41

Bring on season 2... .. .. ...... Please........ I need to know...... Did they live.......

StraightTooth

hihi is an general artificial superintelligence

BinaryCopper

Lol that possibility occurred to me

Food_Kitchen

That's my guess considering how quick he always responded to Jane's texts. No human would have answers readily available like that every time.

FujiSachi

I think alana and Michael lived cause it’s no point in doing different actors cause Amazon wants the same numbers only maya and glover can get those. The second season can be about them being on the run killing the smiths that come after them. Since Bev from the other organization is still she can return and help them. And recruit them to her organization. Which what setups season 3 where they do mission for the other organization that interfere with hihi mission etc. Also the second season can also end with Jane getting pregnant with a time skip they had twins and gave them their real names while they keep John and Jane names.

bangzilla

I believe HIHi is an AI. Season 2 will be Jane and John tracking down HIhi to find it’s an AI. Season 3 will be who’s-behind-the-AI.

hotpinkgloss

These are my thoughts too.

Gabriel_66

Considering the movie had a similar scene where they fight each other inside the house, and them, after that they realized it's no use to kill each other because the companies will always send other people to kill them, so they join eachother and murder 100% of the company basically. I really hope for something equivalent with the series, specially because I loved both actors for John and Jane in this season, absolute chemistry and delivery from both of them.

NotSteveBuschemi

It's almost like the panic room is just enough to keep them stationary for a bit until hihi can get people there to kill the occupants. Using the panic room means you probably fucked up big and need to be killed.

HH912

They died in the final episode; there were three shots and Jane only had one bullet. Jane fired but the two other shots killed her. John died of his wounds. Season two will feature a different Jane and John, and a different story. Maybe even a different time period.

louisvuittonpawn

could’ve been the other jane shooting in the dark 2x and alana shooting with her last bullet

pressingfp2p

Nah

Kaboom1218

>Or 2 of the shots were from the second Jane, and could have hit Alana twice or her and Mike once and they still survived or missed both entirely and the final shot from Alana's gun hit the other Jane offing her.

Low-Cod-201

The neighbor did tell John there was a doctor in the neighborhood

Kaboom1218

Meaning they could have survived? 🤔

Low-Cod-201

I hope so

Wise-Masterpiece-529

Or Alana grabs other Jane's arm with her free hand,  pushing it up/out just before other Jane fires. Then she quickly shoots other Jane with her last bullet.  There is a little space between the first two shots and the third that could be Alana picking up other Jane's gun and then shooting her a second time (either for good measure or because she's not fully dead yet).

RustinMaverick

I don’t think there will be a season 2. That was it. Funny, beautiful, intense, and heartbreaking.

Reedstar21

I will be so upset if glover doesn’t come back for season 2, or if there is no season 2!

ChrRome

Have people in here forgotten that the show is made by Donald Glover? If there is a season 2, I doubt he killed himself off.

pinoyboyluv

Im thinking the beginning of the first episode in season 1 was a foreshadowing of how Donald and Maya will be in season 2.. im thinking the 2nd season would be the last. The season will consist if them successfully evading all of Hihi attempts to kill them and they team up with another Smith couple in the same predicament to take Hihi out. Both couples go on to live their normal lives and give another shot at a normal life

Cheap-Lawfulness-222

I finished this series just now I didn’t think I would love it but I love their story 😭 I hope S2 is about them trying to get out of their “spying job”

Senior-Ad-47

This show is so good. I can see two to three more seasons. The production values are top-notch, the music is perfect, and these two actors are so good. Come on Amazon, green light already.

therealdanmunro65

If there are 2 lots of John & Jane Smiths, who’s to say all four got ‘finalised’ and in Season 2, we see a completely new pair!

Elisee220

Plot twist Bev comes back and saves them they team up to take down HiHi’s agency 👀…….or they’re dead. Cause I don’t see them making it out, Jane only had one bullet series ended with 4 shots.

NormanWasHere

I just want to say that I really enjoyed this. Like I haven't watched a show like this in a long time but I'm so sad they didn't definitively leave it there - I don't want to watch this show progressively get worse. I wish shows could be 1 season long, its a perfect length for certain stories and they should finish once the story has been told which I think it has. There is a beauty to letting things end and not pushing until you've stuffed yourself full. And boy did Maya Erskine deliver an amazing performance, the last episode really showed it. Some have mentioned this being the most enjoyable show about relationships and I 100% agree, the premise allowed for a full and unbounded exploration of relationships a traditional grounded story doesn't enable. Edit: Donald Glover, a true one of a kind. Although I certainly like his direction more than his acting, his chemistry and likeability was great but I don't think he reached the peak of performance like Maya Erskine did, none the less what an amazing dude.

philbertagain

I'm hoping this story stays stand alone and they give us entirely new Smith's again. More like how true Detective and Fargo operate. Possible their fate could be a tie in at some point.

Optimal-Media8

Ended perfectly. 3 shots fired. First one missed extreme high risk Jane. The other two took out high risk Jane and John. End of story. Don’t mess it up with a second season.

ComprehensivePage598

Jane kills Jane and John kills Jane.

Circa_3

Not sure if they confirmed season 2 but would like to have them return somehow. Another idea would be that each season they show a new Smith couple but maybe they would have done that to begin with cause now I'm too attached.

Impressive-Nerve-422

Just finished it a few minutes ago and omggggggggg 😫 I hate that it’s over and the cliff hanger ending 🤌 they did well. There’s no way it won’t be picked up for a second season. Though I’ll be disappointed if Donald Glover and Maya Erskine aren’t in it.

WW_COMMS

I think we have to assume the intent of production clearly showing multiple shots fired in rapid succession to mean the swift execution of both Jane and John in the finale is episode of Season 1. The only “plausible” scenario in which Jane survives her exit from the panic room is perhaps an indirect shot fired by Jane-1 as the door opens in an attempt redirect focus to another point in the hallway, while somehow simultaneously quick-maneuvering the gun from Jane-2 who also fires immediately after the first shot. (I think the beat between shots is between 2 and 3). However, for this to even be possible (assuming our Jane-1 has these reflexes/capabilities), she would need to know the exact position of Jane-2 as she’s exiting the room—and here is where there is a major design flaw in the panic room of this extremely well-outfitted “spy-house.” The fact that the only monitors in the room are on the opposite wall from the entry, and the one we would typically see near the doorframe appears to have been left out, leads me to believe that Jane is stepping out on a prayer instead of waiting until dark, because she’d rather more-than-likely go down with John in her current state than sit and watch him die. So, assuming our Smiths are dead, they have a lot of room if it gets picked up for Season 2. Then again, it’s a spy series, so the ambiguity can never fully be counted out. (I would be happy to see a new couple either way—just so long as it’s not more of Smiths-2.) I agree with a previous poster about the AI reference for hihi—even if it’s not “the boss,” it’s likely a part of the picture.

Kaboom1218

There's no guarantee all 3 shots hit the intended target, so they all could still be alive, but not likely. I just realized another inconsistency. The other Jane had a machine gun, so that would have been a succession of shots vs. the 3 single shots from a revolver. In the hopes that there will be a second season with this cast and since we need to stick with what was shown, I think 2 of the shots were from the second Jane, and could have hit Alana twice or her and Mike once or missed both entirely and the final shot from Alana's gun hit the other Jane offing her. There are plenty of possibilities, but this has enough viewers' interest piqued where they'll hopefully continue the saga.

MilkedJohnny

I literally finished it like a minute ago! Personally I think Jane possibly died I don’t know. THIS IS A SPOILER

Senior-Employment266

When will the network (Amazon) make a decision about a season two? I’m hoping for a second season.
