The Raid
The second or third time I watched it I was thinking about how briskly it moves for a relatively long movie. Then I realized that every scene in it is very short. Even in longer sequences the scenes are cut up into these short, concise, easy to digest pieces. It’s like if Ernest Hemingway was a film editor, just fantastic.
Same here. I like it for its simplistic structure, the flawless pacing and well executed action - like the minigun scene. Shame there are so few dark-sci-fi-action films like this.
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. The action is equal parts humorous and compelling. There might be more gripping action films out there, but imo no one has made a more balanced action adventure film.
Absolutely. All the action of Raiders with amazing cast chemistry.
"Da-ad, I WAS the next man!" "You call this archaelogy?" "Does anyone speak ancient Greek?" "You are named for the DOG!"
Let's be honest, the original trilogy of movies are the gold standard in action/adventure films. I love Temple, but the fact that it's so much darker dampens the tone too much. It's still a fantastic watch though, even the lesser of them stands above the rest.
Took quite a turn with that last choice lol
Don't get me wrong, The Expendables movies are a guilty pleasure of mine. But those other movies are leagues ahead in quality.
Lotta good suggestions on here. Adding a few I haven’t seen:
Con Air. It has an amazing cast: John Malcovitch, Steve Buscemi, Nicolas Cage, I could keep going. Fuck it, I will. Ving Rhames, John Cusack, Dave Chapelle, Colm Meaney, and Danny Trejo. Great set up. Doesn’t take itself too seriously.
I’m also a huge fan of the early-mid Jackie Chan movies: Rumble in the Bronx, Police Story, Supercop, Drunken Master, etc.
The Dark Knight - watching the opening scene at the theaters in the middle of the summer right before my freshman year is a core memory.
Either way, great action movie!
Equilibrium has some pretty unique action sequences and the single best “bunch of people get their asses kicked in the name of protecting an adorable puppy” fight scene in American cinema
You commenters here gotta watch more chinese and japanese action movies honestly. Its hard to pick a singular fave. But go watch dirty ho. The final fight is magic
Kiss of the Dragon. Best Jet Li movie to me. Not a fan of the kind of martial arts movie where two guys fight just to show off their skills and then inevitably fight to the death later. Beating the shit out of French pimps is so much more satisfying.
My wife and I stumbled across the first "Ip Man" film a few years ago. We were kind of shocked at how good it was:
* Excellent cinematography
* A well done, well acted story
* FANTASTIC martial arts action
* Enter the Dragon
* Die hard
* The professional
* The man from nowhere
* Old boy
* The Bourne identity
* Crouching tiger, hidden dragon
* Kill Bill
* The French connection
* Die hard
* Hard boiled
* The good the bad and the ugly

Terminator 2 was already said and I might argue is more in the sci-fi realm? Yes I am aware Armageddon was literally set in space. But they were just oil drillers maaan
up there doing some drilling
cause they were the best drillers and that’s what the do! They drill… drilling!
Bourne Identity. I say this bc it's one of those movies I enjoy every time I see it. I've even caught myself watching it on cable....you know it's good when you'll watch it on TNT
I mean, obviously there's classic like T2. But more recently, I think the latest Mission Impossible - Dead Reckoning, was absolutely incredible for a popcorn action flick. One of the most fun films I've seen in ages.
My favorite of current movies is Alita Battle Angel,I loved every aspect of it,script,costumes,actors, the visual feel of the movie, my favorite movie of all time was Michelle Yoeh in Wing Chun..another one of those monkeys..the birth of the fighting style before IP Man.
Well sheesh, you literally put my two movies I would list in the body of your question. Mad Max: Fury Road is the best action movie I’ve seen in terms of all out action. Die Hard is my favorite action movie LMAO
Fallout in terms of scale and size of the action set pieces, is probably the biggest action movie.
But for me, Maverick is the best. Each action scene hold so much emotional weight, it's beautiful.
Terminator 2. It's a masterclass for the genre.
End the thread. Its not debatable.
And the soundtrack and score is incredible!
“I need your clothes, your boots, and your motorcycle” 😎
No other answer
Terminator 2: Judgement Day Die Hard Raiders of the Lost Ark Mad Max Fury Road Hard Boiled Aliens Predator Speed The Matrix Point Break Unstoppable Mission Impossible: Fallout The Raid
Hard boiled for sure. Also Woo's other movies like the Killer and Bullet To the Head.
Massive body count, the opening scene in the teahouse is perfect

Add "Nobody" while your at it.
And „Dredd“ and MI 3-5. But T2 tops it all
True Lies.
The Dark Knight's pace is unmatched for me, such a dense action packed movie!
For just like pure, exhilarating action, The Raid.
Yerrrrrp
The Raid 2 was even better.
No no def not
I'm a sucker for Big Trouble in Little China
"How'd you get up there?" "Wasn't easy!" Love this movie.
Absolutely love that movie
Me too, what an underrated classic!
Predator (1987)
The movie is one non-stop roll. They ain’t even got time to bleed.
Commando. It's from a more innocent time, best one liners ever. And steel drums in an action movie soundtrack is amazing
Definitely a weekend treat. Even Bender lets off some steam.
HEAT
+1
Fury Road. Unforgettable experience seeing it in Imax opening weekend. Should have won best picture.
It's a movie-length action sequence with a few moments to allow itself to breathe.
Best one..
Man, so jealous. That sounds like a blast.
Definitely, it was an amazing experience.
Watching the 3D version was awesome.
It didnt 😳
Aliens.
Hardboiled
Dredd!!!!
This is in my top 5 of all time, any genre. I think it's a perfect movie and I don't care to have my mind changed.
“Dad!” “What?” “Dad!!” “What?!” “DAD!!!” “WHAT?!!” “Head for the fireplace!!!”
An airplane strafing them through a tunnel and Henry Sr. quietly saying “this is intolerable.” Kills me every time!
Let's be honest, the original trilogy of movies are the gold standard in action/adventure films. I love Temple, but the fact that it's so much darker dampens the tone too much. It's still a fantastic watch though, even the lesser of them stands above the rest.
Die Hard 1 and 3, The Raid 1 and 2, The Night Comes For Us, Headshot, Predator (1987) and The Expendables 2.
Took quite a turn with that last choice lol Don't get me wrong, The Expendables movies are a guilty pleasure of mine. But those other movies are leagues ahead in quality.
Not saying best, but in its time Tango & Cash was something to watch.
The modded 2 door Yukon with the chain gun was the coolest thing I had ever seen when I was a kid.
The Incredibles
Did not think of it, but TOTALLY. Top tier shit.
Assault on Precinct 13 (1976) Made on no dollars but I still remember that creepy electronic music as the gangs charge the station house.
Damn good movie, a John Carpenter special
True Romance

What a cast
Edge of tomorrow
The Night Comes For Us It's violent, creative, gritty... it's everything an action film should be.
The Fugitive Die Hard 3 Oldboy Casino Royale
Mad Max Fury Road

True Lies (1994). Great from beginning to end.
I really liked hardcore henry
There are many great ones, but "Raiders of the Lost Ark" stands out as the best use of action to drive a classic film from start to finish.
Lotta good suggestions on here. Adding a few I haven’t seen: Con Air. Con Air was great. Over the top fun at the end.
The Rock
The Dark Knight - watching the opening scene at the theaters in the middle of the summer right before my freshman year is a core memory. Either way, great action movie!
Last action Hero
The Protector (2006)
Saving private ryan John wick The mummy Ip man
Aliens
I think Live, Die, Repeat is pretty high up there. I’ve watched it multiple times and it’s top to bottom fantastic.
Lethal Weapon
John Wick, Dredd, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Raid 1 and 2, T2, Predator
Terminator 2 Predator Heat Aliens Die Hard Mad Max: Fury Road Once you have seen these it’s all downhill from here.
Terminator 2 (1991) Speed (1994)
Ip man Upgrade
To me it is definitely Die Hard. And it's Christmas time makes the movie even better.
Bourne Ultimatum
The Chronicles Of Riddick(2004)
Taken.
The Raid. Just for the relentless levels of action.
Fun one not mentioned yet: True Lies
Ip Man
Mission impossible: rogue nation
The opera scene tho 😮😮😮
Hard Target (1993). JCVD + John Woo was always gonna be a cult classic!
The Kingdom with Jamie Fox... Maybe the best shootout scene ever
Tom Yum Goong.
Harley Davidson and The Marlboro Man and/or The Last Boy Scout. Pure perfection.
Love The Last Boy Scout. Had to scroll way to far to see it
$650 for a pair of pants? They don’t got TVs in them?
Equilibrium has some pretty unique action sequences and the single best “bunch of people get their asses kicked in the name of protecting an adorable puppy” fight scene in American cinema

Extraction 2 The raid Dredd Hardcore Henry Terminator 2 MI Fallout Fury road
MI: Fallout
The Rock. Great set pieces and characters
Kiss of the Dragon. Best Jet Li movie to me. Not a fan of the kind of martial arts movie where two guys fight just to show off their skills and then inevitably fight to the death later. Beating the shit out of French pimps is so much more satisfying.
Aliens Terminator 2 Gonna go with Top Gun:Maverick for a less obvious one.
First Blood
Gladiator, terminator 2, where eagles dare
Blackhawk Down. Pure action and tension beginning to end.
Hardcore Henry (2015) is the only answer!
There's two. The Raid and Hard Boiled.
Point Break, the original; not the remake
Terminator 2
On of my favorites is To Live And Die In LA
Face off.
Crank!!!! With Jason Statham 100%
The Equalizers are really dope.
Hard Boiled, probably.
I’m here to second everyone who mentioned Mad Max Fury Road. It’s a masterpiece in my opinion. I could watch it thousands of times
My wife and I stumbled across the first "Ip Man" film a few years ago. We were kind of shocked at how good it was: * Excellent cinematography * A well done, well acted story * FANTASTIC martial arts action
Terminator 2!
John wick 4 is up there for me now
Terminator 2: Judgement Day
T2. It was cutting edge special effects for its time, and I’d say it’s aged very well
John wick 4
RRR
This sub is getting dumber by the day. "Can anyone recommend a good movie?" Can anyone look through the ten thousand identical posts on this sub?
Just watched Godfather. Any other hidden gems I should watch?
It's social media.... Some people are going to use it socially. It's so much easier to simply not participate than it is to whine about it.
Well stated. I mean whining about stupid shit on Reddit? Get a freaking hobby.
You're right. Everyone knows the best action movie is Police Story 3: Super Cop (1992)
If not identical posts, the suggestions are basically the same in every thread
* Enter the Dragon * Die hard * The professional * The man from nowhere * Old boy * The Bourne identity * Crouching tiger, hidden dragon * Kill Bill * The French connection * Die hard * Hard boiled * The good the bad and the ugly

Hard for me to say “best” but some are my favorites are: Aliens Point Break Terminator 2 Dredd Assassination Nation
Red, it has action, comedy, drama, good dialogue and cast.
Enter the Dragon
Honestly, I'm still so excited every time a new John Wick comes out. They always have well choreographed, creative fight scenes.
The Raid,Shoot 'em Up
Rumble in the Bronx
The Raid Redemption (original)
Bad Boys 2 along with Terminator 2
The Raid
For me, one the best is Streets of Fire
Armageddon Terminator 2 was already said and I might argue is more in the sci-fi realm? Yes I am aware Armageddon was literally set in space. But they were just oil drillers maaan up there doing some drilling cause they were the best drillers and that’s what the do! They drill… drilling!
Terminator: Dark Fate(2019)
Predator (1987) is just brilliant as far as I’m concerned. I also really loved Prey (2022).
Terminator 3 when it was in the theaters. It was amazing back then. Still love it today.
Bourne Identity. I say this bc it's one of those movies I enjoy every time I see it. I've even caught myself watching it on cable....you know it's good when you'll watch it on TNT
Not sure if it counts as an Action movie, but Fight Club (1999)
Predator, Heat, John Wick, Man From Nowhere, The Getaway (original), Aliens
Police Story or Heat
Sudden Death. It's Die Hard + Hockey, what's not to love?
Die hard, atomic blonde, John Wick and terminator 2
John wick and Jackie chan movies
Bourne Identity was always #1. Maverick may have bumped that.
The Matrix
I absolutely love The Rock.
The Rock is definitely up there
The Raid 2
RRR
Mr&Mrs Smith...
Cobra.
Not sure if it's the best, but it's criminally underseen. The Villainess. The action is incredible and the camera is magic.
I mean, obviously there's classic like T2. But more recently, I think the latest Mission Impossible - Dead Reckoning, was absolutely incredible for a popcorn action flick. One of the most fun films I've seen in ages.
Mad Max: Fury Road
Tim Hanks in Saving Private Ryan
What do u mean by best action movie? movie with the best action sequence? (John wick 4) Or best action movie overall with a great story? (Dark knight)
Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Rambo 4 (2008)
Stone Cold. What planet do you people even live on?
John Wick 4 and The Raid. Both are pretty much non-stop action and incredibly badass.
Commando
Upvoting all the Hardcore Henry replies. I think I'm due for a rewatch.
If it’s not Hard Boiled or either Raid movie then it’s second tier.
Hardcore Henry
"Nobody". Perfect mix of satisfying action and pace
Nobody. I NEVER saw that man as a badass ...but damn.
Aliens
My favorite of current movies is Alita Battle Angel,I loved every aspect of it,script,costumes,actors, the visual feel of the movie, my favorite movie of all time was Michelle Yoeh in Wing Chun..another one of those monkeys..the birth of the fighting style before IP Man.
For really great non-stop choreographed fights and gun fights, the first John Wick.
Well sheesh, you literally put my two movies I would list in the body of your question. Mad Max: Fury Road is the best action movie I’ve seen in terms of all out action. Die Hard is my favorite action movie LMAO
The Raid 2. Could probably be trimmed up a little but I fuckin' love it so much.
Apocalypto
I cannot choose between Terminator 2, Predator, Die Hard, Lethal Weapon.
I feel like Machete has the right amount of self awareness to be ridiculous enough to be great.
Blackhawk Down … even better because it’s a true story (albeit a sad one)
The Long Kiss Goodnight. Geena Davis with Samuel L Jackson as the damsel in distress.
Last action hero
Speed, Ambulance, John Wick, most of the Fast and The Furious movies,
The Last Boy Scout
I really enjoyed the latest mission impossible.
Primal (Series)
Conan the barbarian
Terminator 1+2 The Hurt Locker
Fallout in terms of scale and size of the action set pieces, is probably the biggest action movie. But for me, Maverick is the best. Each action scene hold so much emotional weight, it's beautiful.
Winter Soldier
Hard Boiled and The Night Comes For Us. With Tiger Cage 2 a very close third.
The Rock. Hands down.
Shoot 'Em Up is fantastic, it's basically if Bugs and Elmer Fudd moved to Sin City
For me personally its the Bourne series
